Hi my name is Kelly and i live in Australia on the Gold Coast and am also a HAA
fan. Just thought id let you know that yes Hayley is replaced by Ella Scott
Lynch (who inevitably has the baby) and then Hayley and Scotts characters are
cut off the show when Scott takes a job opportunity, involving his boats,
overseas.... Hope this helps.

This is an interview with the Actress playing the new doctor.
Terry <modelpower2006@...> wrote: LANDING a gig at Summer Bay is just
what the doctor ordered for Amy
Mathews, who is the new face on Home and Away.

How did you celebrate landing a full-time gig as Dr Rachel Armstrong
on Home and Away?

I told my mum and we had a bottle of champagne and some
strawberries, which she organised. We were very excited about it.

You have played a small role as a nurse on the series before. Is it
coincidence or do you have a medical degree up your sleeve?

I wish I did, but no, it's simply a coincidence.

Have you studied real doctors and nurses to achieve a more realistic
portrayal of your character?

Not studied, but I have interviewed and talked to medical students,
doctors and psychiatrists. I have such respect for them, they work
very hard.

What's your character like a vixen, heart breaker or a sweet girl?

Rachel is strong willed with a gentle heart, which is such a great
juxtaposition of traits. It makes her a great character to play.

How does she fit into the Summer Bay family?

She went to high school with Leah and is returning to the Bay to
start her career.

Which cast members are you closest to so far and who has taken you
under their wing?

Chris Hemsworth (who plays Kim Hyde) and I are quite good mates
because most of our scenes are together. However, everyone has been
very welcoming towards me.

Where else have we seen your work?

I have had many guest roles on Australian dramas. I did Blue
Heelers' live to air episode, I was also in Fox 8's drama Love Bytes
and I have toured Australia and Singapore with the Bell Shakespeare
company.

Kate Ritchie, who plays Sally, has been with the show 18 years? Do
you see a long-term future at Summer Bay?

I'm having a really great time working with the cast and crew and
doing what I love, so I hope I can stay for as long as possible.

Over the past year Summer Bay has been home to stalkers, cults and
babies. What can we expect this year?

They do keep a pretty tight lid on storylines even from us but I'm
sure there will be a lot of drama and romance in store for Rachel in
particular.

Two Home and Away starlets have won Dancing with the Stars. Can we
expect to see you treading the boards?

I'll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.

Back to the Bay

Local drama to lose

Under threat ... not everyone needs good Neighbours. LOCAL TV drama
is set to be the loser after the Seven and 10 networks' $780 million
bid for the AFL's TV rights for 2007-2011.

Seven insiders suggest a number of local Australian series,
including Blue Heelers and Headland, will be victims of the major
cash re-allocation within the network.

Home and Away and All Saints, both produced in-house, are on more
solid ground as they utilise Seven's $40 million Epping studios in
Sydney, and because Home and Away contributes significantly to
Seven's local content points.

The Seven drama department is likely to taste its own karma after it
clumsily dominated Seven's sports department when it lost the AFL
rights in 2000.

"Anything on the periphery will go," one producer said.

"Seven will meet its (local drama content) quota and anything that
costs money will be dumped."

All three free-to-air networks will struggle to meet their local
content quotas this year, even with Home and Away and Neighbours
fulfilling close to a third of the obligation for Seven and Ten.
Next year will only be tighter.

Seven is expected to push for a night AFL Grand Final after the
success of its night Australian Open Final last year.

Oh no! Don't talk of taking off that too!! I would sign your petition too if
they did that and started one!

I really was distraught on Saturday when they said that - I'll be forever

to come crashing down - "Happy New Year SJ, with love from Channel
5!!!!"

For as long as I can remember, I have looked forward to Saturday
mornings soooooooooo much! The Home and Away omnibus is the
highlight of my week. I am DEVASTATED if I miss it - I have been
known to burst into tears if I am deprived of even 10 minutes of it.
I have shot out of bed upon the second of waking with the worst
hangover from hell for it. I have fretted on long tropical holidays
overseas for it, with the worry of somebody forgetting to video it.
I do not trust video recorders - they are pesky, unreliable things
and not really to be trusted with a truly important thing such as
Home and Away. Even if the whirry little boggers DO work, who is to
say the person entrusted to control them will carry out the task with
100% true dedication (having said that when it HAS gone ok I have had
the pleasure of returning to eight solid hours of my love!)?

(Excuse me for one moment I have to take my laptop upstairs, as my
lovely housemate is watching a film with dogs in it, which would be
fine but my concentration is being compromised ….. one mo!)

I resume - where was I? Ah yes, the PLEASURE the Home and Away
omnibus brings to me once a week. I get myself a selection of yummy
snacks and I settle myself down onto the settee - only moving to get
myself a coffee or to turn my tap on during the commercial breaks.
Well - Channel Five have changed all that for me now!!!

I shot out of bed in time this morning on time, after only three
hours' sleep, settled into my routine and life was sweet - until the
end - when C5 dealt a terrible blow. I was already in shock (though
not truly surprised) that it was Jessie who had ruined the night of
Alf's 60th , which should have been a magical night in Alf's memory,
not a night of tragedy. I didn't even have the time for "OOOOOOH I
CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!!!!!" to run through my mind though before
it was announced, over the credits, that "as from next Saturday there
will be no more Home and Away omnibus, but you can catch it Monday to
Friday……"!!! WAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! I paced up and down non-stop from the
living room to the kitchen for about 10 minutes, hoping it was just a
nightmare. I had PLANS for today - but I was contemplating changing
them to go out and buy a cheap DVD recorder, even though I have zero
money as I've been forced into a week of no work (no pay!). I called
my boyfriend nearly in tears. He said he would record it for me and
I would never miss an episode (the VCR in this house doesn't record
for some reason) but it is still NOT ENOUGH!

I decided to take positive action - I have dedicated my entire New
Year's Eve to this cause. When I finished weeping and wailing on the
telephone I went upstairs and, to show that I meant business, I even
tied back my hair and put on my spectacles - I NEVER normally wear my
spectacles - I need them but I just let them gather dust. Vanity
stops me - BUT NOT TODAY!!!!! I even took a suit from my rail, but
upon a moment's thought, holding it on the hanger, I thought that
maybe it would be best to keep comfortable.

I could go on and on for hours about my feelings today to you, but I
must press on - I have to see that this message reaches YOU - the
family I have never met (this applies only if I have reached out to
you on a H&A board!) - I urge you, please, just to take a minute to
sign my petition. Even if you are not in the UK and this doesn`t
affect you directly, IT DOES NOT MATTER. For the love of Home and
Away, let's all unite and make ourselves heard!!!

Lots of love to you all and a Happy New Year

I support your petition. I am a BSL supporter and if they took off the repeat
at 12.00 or removed the signer, I would start a petition.
