Anybody in Liverpool, Edinburgh, Northampton or Wolverhampton
should look out for the tour of Scrooge The Musical starring Tommy
Steele over the next few weeks because the part of Jacob Marley is
again being played by Barry Howard (he played the role for some time
years ago opposite Anthony Newley.)
ROB
Thanks for mentioning that Rosie, just looked and its Allo Allo
tomorrow too!
A Night Not to Remember is one of my favourite episodes. Gladys
managed to keep her secret, but I suspect she lost something else!
Next Saturday is the BBC Top 50 sitcom rundown, which includes Hi-De-
Hi. Another date for the diary...
I'm still catching up on the Series 1 & 2 box set which I now have on
DVD thanx to Santa, lol!
As a fairly new fan I only had alot of the later episodes which I had
videoed, now I'm seeing all the fab early ones too, incl the
classic "A Night Not to Remember" - Gladys is hilarious in it,
lol!! :D
Also for any fans of "Bread" - their 'Stars Reunited' is on Tues at
10am - as a Jonathon Morris fan I will be videoing that one, hope
Dale Winton is not so bad in this one as he was in the HDH one!!

Bit of a shame really if they are only releasing those episodes, when
technically they could have brought out the next seven too, saving us
another hefty wait for them to get round to bringing out another set.
Would also have meant they could have released the whole series in 4
nice, neat double-series box sets.
Still, such is life. There's still some great episodes in this bunch.
Remember when I saw Maplin Intercontinental again a couple of years
ago I almost ruptured something when Barry gave his description of
Yvonne in the Miss Maplin contest.
Sing you Sinners has come great moments too. I very much hope that
Eruptions does make it in as I've somehow managed to miss it every
time its been on BBC1 and UK Gold over the last couple of years.
I don't know how many of you are Allo Allo fans, but I've already got
mine ordered from dvdpopcorn.com for £16.99. A few rare episodes in
that set too.
As for Oh Dr Beeching, there's no sign in any of the shops yet. I'm
surprised they've skipped You Rang Me Lord and gone straight to that,
considering the campaign to get it released and the fact that
Beeching is widely regarded as being the weakest of the three series.
Then again nothing that Playback does surprises me these days. The
discs end up being good, but by hell do they take some appearing.
I've noticed the woman from the Tea-Bar in Dr Beeching has now
appeared in Coronation Street as Brenda Fearns. Interesting as the
part was originally played by Sherie Hewson (Maureen Holdsworth from
Corrie).
I'm getting quite worried by how much trivia I know!

com ALLO ALLO due 16 February 2004

Just in case anyone is interested Blackstar at
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/ not known for cheap deals. One good thing
they do that others do not do is tell you if a Video or DVD is
deleted from producers catalogues they do tell you you they are
unavailable and offer a search service at a price.
Michael
Hi Beckster,
No word yet on whether Eruptions will be part of the boxed set but I
think it will be a great shame if it is missed out.
Re: series 3 & 4. This block of episodes were recorded as two
distinct blocks (April and September of 1982) and thus are to be
treated as two series even though they were shown as one long
continuous run on their original transmissions. I've spoken to
David Croft and he agrees that this is so, therefore the forthcoming
release of the episodes as one boxed set covering two series is
correct. Trivia really but there you go, these things need
clarifying.
Hope you all have a fabbo new year.

That's great news. Have they revealed what the copyright problems
were this time and whether or not the Christmas Special 'Eruptions'
will be included?
The provisional running time is 7 hours over three discs but I reckon
it should be nearer 10-11 hours as there are 19 episodes (20 with
Eruptions) in the two series.
The supollard.org websites episode guide incidentally describes
Series 4 as being Series 5 and the latter part of Series 3 as being
Series 4. (Reading that sentence back after a few pints is
mindblowing!). This is at odds with every other episode guide that I
have seen, including the TV comedy bible.
I've already pre-ordered my copy from Play in case they end up
covering 4 discs and up the price accordingly!
Rob has info that the copywrite problems have been resolved for Hi-de-
hi and Oh Dr Beeching, and has said they should be released in the
Spring!!! Not long to go now!!!! :)
The Jeffrey Holland interview was on "I'm Dreaming of a TV
Christmas", the one shown Xmas Eve.... I only just caught up with it
yesterday after finally finding it on my video of the show!! I wasn't
sure that it would be on there but it was - was only a very short
interview though!!

Yes indeedy, (almost) Happy New Year to all. Looks like the usual
snow, wind and rain for the festivities.
Alas I missed the Jeffrey Holland clips over Christmas - which show
were they in?
Also - Rosie - can you give some more details on what you've heard
regarding dvd's and where from.
Good to see that following the BBC vote, Hi-De-Hi has made it into
the top 50 comedy shows of all time, guaranteeing it an appearance on
the Jonathan Ross compilation show on the 10th January. The top 10
will then get voted on to choose the best comedy of all time. Could
be interesting...
Hi Campers, hope u all had a great Christmas!!
Fab news that Hi-de-hi series 3 + 4 plus the first series of Oh Dr
Beeching look like definitely hitting the shops in the spring!!!
Hope everyone caught the 2 interviews with Ruth Madoc and Jeff
Holland which were on TV over Xmas, talking about Hi-de-hi, esp the
Xmas specials!!
Ruth Madoc said that Gladys wore iron knickers, lol!!!
And Jeff Holland said how freezing cold he got when thrown in the
pool, plus told us that the camp where filming took place was used as
an Evacuation camp for refugees during the War!!
I found this link for Comparing the purchasing power of money in the

Great News!!! Hope they won't delay the release date any longer...
esp as 8th March is 3 days after my birthday, lol!!!!!!
Many thanks for finding out about the Hi-de-hi Xmas Specials
programme "That Was The Week We Watched" - I would've missed it if u
hadn't mentioned it!! Cheers Beckster!! :)

Yes indeed a cautious celebration is in order. I have spoken to my
contacts at BBC Worldwide who have stressed that the release is still
only provisional on their schedules pending a confirmed
announcement. But with a bit of luck on our side we shall get those
glorious episodes from 1982-83 in the shops before Easter.

Hi Series 3 & 4!!! Release date 8th March 2004. So keep everything
crossed that it will finally materialise then.
Incidentally, the classic 'Duty Free' complete series is due out the
same day and Allo Allo Series 3 & 4 is due out on 16th February.
Think the programme you're thinking of is probably:
'That was the week we watched' on Sunday 28th December on BBC2.
Looks quite an interesting series, taking a look at a week of TV
schedules in a particular year. This episode covers Hi-De-Hi near the
height of its popularity.
Lol, I will have to wear my best ballgown!!
I too am disappointed there won't be any Hi-de-hi shown on the BBC
over Christmas - exp as I no longer have Sky!!!!!!
It's sad they don't show You Rang on terrestrial any more, too - it's
only 10 years since it finished on BBC1!! I wonder why they don't
show it??
I'll be over at my parents for Xmas and Boxing Day so won't be online
then, so will start wishing everyone a Merry Christmas now!!
Ho-de-ho-ho-ho!
lol

Yes you could be right there Rosie. I hope that I remember to tune
in. I'm hopeless remembering things on TV ! It might have been
nice if the BBC had shown a Hi-de-Hi this Christmas but alas it is
not to be. Spoke to Chris (Gary) Andrews today and he is currently
doing security for the Madness tour. Wonder if he wears his
Yellowcoat as he stands looking menacing at the side of the stage ?
Hope all of you in this group have a great Christmas. I don't have
much time off due to the pressures of pantomime. Ours is with Anne
Diamond and Ken Morley. Ken incidentally was the theatre manager
Mr. Challon in the opening episode of You Rang, M'Lord ? A bit of
trivia for you.
See you in the Hawaiian Ballroom for a quick snog under the mistletoe.

Hi Christmas Specials... think it may have had it's title changed, as
I can't find it in the Christmas listings, however there is a show
called "I'm Dreaming of a TV Christmas" which sounds very similar. It
doesn't mention Hi-de-hi but mentions the Xmas Specials of quite alot
of other shows of that era - so that is probably the one!! It's 9.40-
11.40pm on Christmas Eve! Will set my video - I've never seen the

is just an image and will load 10 times faster!

Unfortunately still not flashing!! I tried it in a browser on its own

Not sure why the animation isn't flashing. It does if I open it in a

Hi Beckster and Welcom to Ho-de-ho!
Thanks for the 2 logos - I've uploaded the smaller one onto the

had!!

Hello campers...
Nice to see another Hi-De-Hi site. They're few and far between!
I've taken the liberty of uploading a couple of animated gifs of the
logo. May I suggest using the smaller one (hi-de-hi.gif) on the
welcome screen as the other one is somewhat dubius!
Lets hope we get a good turnout in time for the summer season...
Beckster.
Thanks for the warning Michael.
I wil keep an eye out for this spam, I know it can be a nightmare!!
I've just uploaded some more photos from the web from Oh Dr Beeching
and You Rang Mlord to this group and my other new group where
everyone is also very welcome!:-

On the subject of Perry and Croft books, I know the David Croft
biography "You Have Been Watching..." is meant to be out around April
2004. Shame it's not in time for Christmas though!!!

As a dedicated Perry Croft anorak always hilling to support a new
Group.
I found this book THE ULTIMATE TV GUIDE by JON E LEWIS AND PENNY
STEMPLE at the remainder book chain County Books (in my case in
Nottingham) reduced to £3.99 from £16.99.
The book claims (rightly in my opinion) to b to Television to what
Haliwells is to Movies.
It covers British TV with brief summary of the programme when it was
made, how many episodes etc
