...here are the URL's for the Runco video processors for that system:
http://www.runco.com/dhd_ds.html
They don't convert "regular tee-vee" to CinemaScope...but could using
that processor. Some HD advocates has stated that "downrezzing" is
going to become an issue with changing formats..and little support
equipment. Many current media outlets (including your local Cable
Company) may 'downrez' (convert high resolution pictures to a lower
resolution format) for consumer consumption. That 'scope article
noted the people who purchased that system had to scower the stores
for WideScreen format materials. IF you want to watch "standard
television" on a Cinemascope type screen you might want to do the
following:
1. Stretch the source materials (not recommended..unless it is a
computer graphic or similar).
2. Expand or contract the resolution size..and display in 16:9 or 4:3
aspect ration on your Scope screen. The Ronco System did 1080p
display..but that does not mean if you start with 1000 lines you will
"view" 1000 lines. Some Psychovisual effects take place using the
switch between 1080p 60Hz and 1080i 30Hz. The number of "effective
lines is reduced" (calculate a 1080p 60Hz image as 2160 lines
interlaced at 30Hz)..and your "wow factor" is limited.
A solution?
Use a Faroudja digital "upresolution" converter box (not included in
that Scope system).

..start taking notes:
http://www.pbs.org/opb/crashcourse/tv_grows_up/
Several television pundits have noted that "HDTV will have arrived
when PBS goes full time HD".
Some of their programming is already in large format.
We may be halfway there.

...there are other "horror stories" worse that this, especially if
you are "HD ignorant"..and are buying for the first time (please people
in Southern Oklahoma..YES there is HD..NO you don't have to have a
lot more that internet and a Blue Ray player..BUT..your over the air
choices are very slim...more later)..

..there is more "1080p technical information" on my group site at:

YES you must sign in and register, no "adult wares" or similar
messages. I have some older professional contacts including
Dr. Lawrence Regan of RF Monolithics, an early pioneer of broadband
CATV filtering technology and a FCC HD advocate during the late 80's
early 90's.

..I have had this group site for THREE YEARS:

I used to work for a major manufacturer of CATV headends...anyone
with a Cable Television Industry question (HD or otherwise)...please
post.

Newbie here,
I have a DLP HD 50" and a 27" HD CRT and want to get HD signal. As
of right now, Directv has the local channels coming in the spring via
their sat and not OTA. Anyone had good luck with their equipment?
specifically the HD DVR box by hughes? I would like to be able to
"get" the video out of the box for home movies if needed or to my ipod.

Hi group,
Welcome. I am your fearless list creator. ; ^ ) You all can be the
leaders.
I put my picture on the group home page in case you want to see what
I look like.
Are any of you watching the NBC Olympics in HD?
The coverage is fantastic. Interesting mix of real HD and widescreen
SD. They even use what looks like SHARPENED 4x3 SD occasionally in
the HD studio - go figure.
Cross country this afternoon was wide screen SD. still looks pretty
good. But you could definitely see the difference.
Anyone notice the HD Ads on this olympics as well?
I also set this blog up for the group:
<http://hdtelevision.blogspot.com/>
if any of you want to post there just ask and I will invite you to be
a contributor there.
