Now that several episodes of the Flash Gordon
series have aired, I thought I'd share a few
random comments:
1. I agree with some of the comments/questions
that people have about the Zarkhov character.
He seems too young, he seems to bounce off the
walls a lot (although, Topol kind of played the
character this same way in the 1980 movie), and
he seemed to be awfully easily influenced by
Rankol when they met.
2. Dale's fiance, Joe, is an idiot. I wasn't
too sure about him all along, but when he went
and spilled his guts to his boss about his visit
to Mongo, I really wanted to slapped him. At
The very least, he should have guessed that no one
would believe him, and he probably should have
had at least an inkling of the fact that others
might think he'd flipped. Besides, how much of
a panic does he really want to start by doing
something like this?
3. I find the Ming character to be very interestin.
As someone else said, this Ming is not an over-the-
top sort of evil dictator. The actor (John Ralston)
keeps everything much lower key than Max von Sydow
did in the movie, as the series goes on, each time
you see Ming you see a bit more of how controlling
he is and you can see the evil that runs through
him. The fact that he tells Aura that she was
weak because she didn't let him die after the
whole fiasco in the episode about Aura's planned
wedding tells us a lot about Ming.
4. I haven't quite decided how I feel about the
Aura character. Right now it seems as if she
hasn't quite decided which way to go, so I'm
waiting to see how her character develops.
5. I rather like the Baylin character, if only
because she comes across as strong, and with a
definite purpose. And yet, there have been
occasional moments when she has been a least
somewhat receptive to listening to either Dale
or Flash about how things are done on Earth.
