I'll have to check that out. The only music I
don't like in the show is the army music when they show
Dick in his uniform. Drives me bats! Especially when
he and Mark had that huge fist fight. I have to mute
it.
Well, I do have just enough time to make a
comment here about one scene you reminded me of, zobeed
(I'll have to get to Nick's later). Does anyone
remember the scene where Sandy was killed at Elm Park? The
only real problem I had with the whole series was the
music that was chosen over that scene at the crash.
Does anyone remember it? It sounded like something
that might have been written for almost a comical
scene or moment. <br><br>Any ideas on why it was
chosen? I'm interested in hearing other's reactions to
that.<br><br>Thanks, zobeed.<br><br>- Chris
So sorry, jillie. :( <br><br>I wish I could be here more regularly, but thanks
for stayin current and stickin around. It's great to have ya! :)<br><br>See ya
'round the stables!<br><br>- Chris
Well, Nick, I'm not sure who you were referring
to as "the greatest", but I must admit that your
post expressed much of the spirit with which I began
this club, and I thank you for your comments and your
participation and enthusiastic interest. <br><br>I think most
of us relate well with your level of experience, not
being "internet nerds" or "drama freaks"
ourselves...not, as Seinfeld would say, that there's anything
wrong with that. I am 29, as well, as I've said, and
was introduced to it at a very young age also, at
about 9 or 10; something to that effect
anyway.<br><br>I wish I had more time to respond in detail to your
insights (rest assured I shall bring them up at a time
later when they've no doubt been forgotten), but I
don't, as yet, have web access at home, and so I,
regrettably, wont be on when most everyone else is on. Hope to
change that soon.<br><br>Anyway, thank you, again. I
continue to be astounded (as seems also everyone else) at
the wonderful response to this club, and am excited
to hear from and respond to the input of everyone
who participates.<br><br>Talk to you
soon,<br><br>Chris
Was watching one of my Flambard videos last
night. It was the part where William was killed in
action. One thing I did notice was that when Dorothy and
Christina went to Elm Park to mourn, Dorothy brought along
a chocolate bar and called it a "picnic". Also, the
bar was one solid slab instead of portioned off like
it is now. Or maybe I watch my videos too much!!
Since joining this club i have become really
enthusiastic about its success. There must be loads of people
out there who have seen this drama series and really
enjoyed it.<br><br>Dont get me wrong, i'm not a complete
internet nerd or drama freak with no life outside of my
computer or obsession with Flambards, but it really held
some magic for me as a kid as it was the first real
piece of "adult" progamming i was involved with. It is
interesting seeing it again how i now percieve it compared to
my recollections of it 22 odd years ago( i am 29
now). The reality of life has made me view "william" in
a more cynical light for example and it is
interesting seeing Christina's passion for hunting,
especially in the earlier episodes. I can't remember being
particularly bothered by that as a child whereas now it seems
like the whole world would find her enjoyment somewhat
offensive. I do not wish to become embroiled in the pro/anti
hunting argument and have no wish to offend any
individual here except to say that this drama still holds a
certain amount of magic for me all these years on.
<br><br>For those of us in the UK there is currently a re-run
of the series but on a rather obscure satellite
channel which stilll many won't have access to, but it is
good to know the whole series has been released on
video - mine's in the post from WH Smith.<br><br>Lets
get even more involved in this club. I would like to
thank darthmulder for setting it up in the first place,
I think we can really have some fun here talking
about our favourite drama. Think how great it would be
to get to a stage where we could have an internet
chat with Christine McKenna for example. I am sure she
would oblige if we only knew how to get hold of her and
had enough interest.<br><br>I'm checking this site
regularly now and would like to think we can all talk
together soon<br><br>Best wishes to you all<br><br>Nick

Boy, I am truly overwhelmed. I know a lot of
popular British Comedy clubs that would kill for eight
members. I never imagined EIGHT! Wow! It's so good to see
this many fans, and I look forward to
more.<br><br>This is one of the most touching stories I've come
across and it was brilliantly done, especially in
regards to the casting. I notice people have been
interested in both McKenna's and Parnaby's present
happenings, and, of course, we love to hear about such info
if you have it. <br><br>My favorite actor in the
series was Steve Grives. And I was astounded to see him
on TV tonight! And he looked pretty good for as old
as he must be, very recognizable and astonishingly
youngish, considering the time that has past.
Unfortunately, it was on one of those Xena/Hercules type shows
called Beastmaster (don't ask me why I was watching it;
I was excruciatingly bored). He was playing the big
villian, the "heavy". And though he added a touch of
quality acting to the show, the script and directing made
poor use of his talent.<br><br>As an actor myself, I
pay particular attention to the performances, and
Grives gave some moments in Flambards that blew me away
with their subtelty and power of expression; the kind
of thing I enjoy in actors like Anthony Hopkins.
What a show!<br><br>Anyway, hope I get online more
regularly pretty soon, so I can converse at length with all
of you about your perspectives on the
show.<br><br>"C'mon, ya old nag." - Mark Russell<br><br>- Chris
hello to ..chris, sally, debbie, nick, fiona...and everyone who's name i
missed. i was so excited to see all the posts that i completely forgot
myself.....chat @ ya soon....jillie
i should check this board more often!! i thought
i was all alone as it had been a long time since
the clubs originator post and my subsequent one.
COOL!....re:obtaining books etc... haven't searched for the last one
BUT, i've found several nice copies of the entire
series and finally flambards divided(i've never read
that one) all on ebay. <a href=http://www.ebay.com
target=new>http://www.ebay.com</a> (just in
case)... i hope we can all chat soon...OH! and thanks for
the post re: christine mckennas book....i'll have to
search for that!<br>:) jillie
Sally:<br><br>Where did you find the book? I wouldn't know where to start. I
looked on Amazon.com and other places like that. <br>Is it a good book (though
written for children and short)?
Hi<br><br>The book is called 'Why Didn't They
Tell the Horses'. It was published by Penguin books in
their Puffin plus series. It was published as a
children's book I think. Let me know how you get on - if you
don't have any luck getting hold of it, it's not that
long - I could probably photocopy it for you -
although might have to be in installments!<br><br>Sally
Hello<br>This is Fiona, but I don't have much
more to add to Debbie's message. I got mine from WH
Smiths aswell, But they seem quite widely available. If
your local store doesn't have them on the shelves I'm
sure you would have no trouble ordering
them.<br><br>I'm also interested in the book that Christine
McKenna wrote, any details?<br><br>I'd also be interested
in any news on Alan Parnaby. I know he did quite a
lot of work at the Royal Exchange Theatre in
Manchester in the 80s, but haven't any information on him
since. Any ideas anyone?
Hello<br>This is not Fiona, but Debbie. I have
also got the Flambards videos. I had to write to
Yorkshire TV originally because I had hunted high and low
in video shops. Afer a while I got a reply to say
that they could send me a set, but by this time they
had suddenly appeared in shops. I got mine from WH
SMITH. They were in 2 box sets at a price of 14.99 per
box. Am rewatching them at the moment but have to
admit that the quality is not marvellous (obviously due
to the age of the series). Hope that this is useful
to you. Post me a message back if you need any more
info on this.
I have been a huge fan of Flambards since I first
saw the program in 1978. About 5 years ago I
purchased the videos and watch it over and over. I'm so
glad that other people love the show as much as I
do.<br>I was pleased to hear that Christine McKenna wrote
a book. If anyone knows the details, please pass it
on. Thanks.
Hi Fiona<br><br>Can you give me details on the
videos that have just been released in the UK as I am
blisfully unaware of such items.<br><br>I know the series
is currently being shown on UK satellite tv but at
really unearthly hours for those of us with work in the
morning. I would really appreciate any info on where i can
purchase videos of the series. It would also stop others
in the household who do not appreciate the magic of
this series from tapeing over any "home grown" copies
off of the telly!<br><br>Thanks<br><br>Nick Stevenson
I was intrigued to hear that Christine had written a book about her Flambard
experiences. Can you tell me the title please? I would like to try and track it
down if poss. Thanks.
Gosh, isn’t it great what you can find on the
net! I thought I was alone in my love of Flambards. I
first got into it in the early 80s when I discovered
the books in my local library. I hadn’t seen it on TV
until last week when I bought the videos that have just
been released in the UK. I’m very impressed with the
show, which manages to capture many of the best
features of the books. The casting was also
brilliant.<br><br>I look forward to talking to you all some time
soon.
Hello <br><br>Just joined the club today - and
it's great to come across others who love Flambards. I
first watched the series when I was in my early teens,
read the books and got hold of the videos which I just
finished watching a couple of weeks ago.<br><br>One thing
I'm keen to find out is re Flambards Divided. In the
book that Christine McKenna wrote about her
experiences acting in Flambards there is a photo of her on
set filming Flambards Divided. Does anyone know what
happened with this? Did Yorkshire TV just do a pilot then
shelve it?<br><br>Bye for now
I really never expected to see any new members
join me here. I'd kinda given up hope that anyone knew
what the heck I was talking about with this club. You
guys rock! Thanks for comin on board.<br><br>I wish I
had more frequent access to the net so I could chat
and post messages more frequently, but alas, Kinko's
is all I can afford at this point.<br><br>I'm so
glad everyone of you found this club. I have been in
love with this show since grade school (I'm now almost
30)!<br><br>Wow! 5 members!!!! Unbelievable! Now I hope to see
even more. Greedy little cuss, ain't I? Hopefully I
will be on line more regularly very soon. I'd love to
talk to everyone about what they loved about the show
and why.<br><br>See ya around the stables!<br><br>-
Your Club Founder,<br> Chris
I'd be pleased to chat if you could tell me when
you will be on line.<br><br>For anyone with access to
British Sky TV it looks like the whole series is being
shown, 3 episodes a week at the moment.<br><br>Does
anyone know if any of the actors have been involved in
other things recently??
Good News!<br><br>For anyone whos interested,
Flambards is being screened on the new digital satelite
channel Hallmark.<br><br>The first episode was shown this
morning (Monday) at 10am to be repeated some time late
this evening.
i first saw the miniseries on pbs in i think 78 or 79...read the books but am
yet to read the grim sequel, i think its called flambards divided? im
unsure...well :) @other 2 members
It should be stated why I've started this club
and what one can expect from it.<br><br>WHY I STARTED
THE CLUB<br><br>1. I'M A FAN....I was looking for a
club for this show and didn't find one. <br><br>2. I
WANT TO MEET OTHER FANS....I know of no other fans
besides my brothers and myself, and the couple of people
who I know have web pages devoted to the show. Like
most people, I like meeting people who share a devout
admiration or even just an interest. <br><br>3. TO FIND OUT
MORE ABOUT THE SHOW.... This includes the people who
participated in its creation.<br><br>4. TO HEAR OTHERS'
REACTIONS TO THE SHOW. <br> ****<br><br>A few words of
warning to prospective members. <br><br>1. At the moment,
I'm confined to web tv, which, to those who have no
or scant experience with this form of the web, is
QUITE inflexible. I like to tell people it's the most
INconvenient convenience I've ever used. So the clubs may grow
slowly, if even noticeably, as far as info, photos,
features, and the like.<br><br>2. I'm not connected with
the show or any of the people who made it, so I'm
probably the least qualified to have started a club for
this show. Any help would be welcome, but, obviously,
I have final say in what goes on in this club.
Anyone is perfectly free to start there own club for
this show. If someone can do one better, I will most
likely close this one down: my interest in this venture
are those listed above, and if I find a club that
meets those goals better, I will abandon this one and
direct others to that one.<br><br>Until that happens,
this is the place to be! Welcome to the club, as the
usually perturbed saying goes.<br><br>See ya around the
estate!<br><br>- Chris Huston
Continue to check the links page for new sites
with information and pictures from the show. Right now
there is only one, but it has some nice images, even if
only a few, including the title screen.<br><br>- Chris

I was initially sad to see that no club existed
for this wonderful British dramatic mini-series, but
then decided I was happy to have the opportunity to
start it myself.<br><br>I would like to personally
welcome the fans who join and the guests who stop by to
see what it's all about. I look forward to many
reminiscences and experiences and reactions to the
show.<br><br>Welcome to the site dedicated to heralding the charm of
Flambards!<br><br>- Your Club Host, <br><br> Chris Huston
