Yes, I had the rubberband-launched
XL5!<br>Wonderful toy. I only have the Fireball Junior section left
of it now.<br>Seems to go for a couple of hundred
dollars on ebay.<br>The MPC repro figures are
nice.<br>Had the large Steve & Venus on jetmobiles toys back
int the 60's. Very good toys - sadly, mine are long
gone.<br>I've got the Comet Miniatures resin/metal reissue of
the old Lyons Maid XL5 kit. Also their vacform
plastic kit and the ENA Fireball Junior. Oh, <br>also
have the little 'mini metal' XL5 model.<br>The xL5
annuals are nice to have. You can see pics of some of the
covers on our Space City
webite.<br><a href=http://www.spacecity.tripod.com

Well-I bought that XL5 Playset in 84...I don't
have it anymore guys...that's the downside of the
story-I had to sell it little by little to pay off many
medical bills I had at the time. So don't be too envious
of me as I no longer have it.<br>It was fun while it
lasted though.<br><br> Do any of you members still have
any of your original XL5 items that you may have been
given <br>as a child? Did any of you have the
Quercetti(SP?)<br>XL5 parachute rocket toy? That was a fun item that
you launched with a rubber band. I still have XL5
annuals, some photos/slides, Little Golden Book, and Steve
and Venus plastic figures <br>on hoverbikes. <br><br>

Yeah! Ditto on the envy.<br>That's the stuff of
fantasy!<br>Hey - how about posting some pictures of your find
here on the forum?<br>Would love to see all the bits
and pieces and your descriptions of them.
Oooooh - What luck you have! If it had been me, and two other people began
following me, I would have run to my car at warp speed!<br><br>Green with
EXTREME envy,<br>Larry
Pt. 3-<br> Well, I acted like I wsn't too anxious
and pulled out my wallet and looked in it and then at
her and said...yeah, I do have that much...I paid
her...thanked her and left the scene of the crime...and was
actually followed by two other guys who had scene it there
earlier and never investigated it...thinking the same
thing I did, that she wanted five hundred for it...but
I got it because I at least looked at it! Some
deal, eh?<br><br> Jim Main
Pt. 2-<br>Well I nervously opened the box and ws
amazed to find it was all there and the cardboard city
wasn't even punched out! After ooohing and aaahing and
drooling for a few minutes, I put everything back in the
box and closed the lid and <br>said thanks to her for
making her day....she then asked, aren't you interested
in it?<br>I said yeah, but I don't have that much
money<br>and she said...you don't have five dollars?
One day at a local town Sunday outdoor flea
market I came upon this old lady who had a lot of items
thrown on a great big bath towel...in the middle of it
was the XL5 Space City still in a very good looking
box! On the box wa a post it note with the number 5
and a dash after it...I wanted to look at it cause I
had one when I was a kid so I asked if it was okay to
examine it...she said, sure dear, no problem....
Hi,<br>I bought an XL5 crew patch from
Fanderson.<br><a href=http://www.fanderson.org.uk
target=new>http://www.fanderson.org.uk</a><br>Nice. (you have to be a member to
buy from them)<br>I
tried to buy some XL5 models they advertise on their
site...after waiting months, they told me they were 'sold
out'.<br>If you buy from Fanderson - don't hold your breath
waiting!<br>I've also just bought some XL5 badges from Startrader.
One is a round badge with the logo, the other is in a
3 badge set, a 'cut out' of XL5 and an SPV and
Angel
Interceptor.<br><a href=http://www.startrader.co.uk
target=new>http://www.startrader.co.uk</a><br>(loads of other great Anderson
items for sale there -
including SIG and Century 21 magazines).
Hi Jim.<br>Yes - it's great that Space Patrol
(aka Planet Patrol in the U.S.) has been released. A
great show - both very similar and very different to
XL5.<br>Two possible futures - we get interstellar drive of
some kind and leave our solar system as in XL5, or we
are stuck in our own 'backyard' and make the best of
that as in Space Patrol.<br>I like both shows very
much - but Fireball XL5 is still my favourite by a
long way. It has more heart I guess.
I think we should keep a look out for currently
available XL5 goodies. Fanderson sell a great CD:<br>

what it says on the website:<br>Superb compact disc

opening and closing titles, "Formula 5", "This Is The

of these tracks formed part of the scores for the
later Gerry Anderson series, including Stingray,
Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and Space:1999.)

Hi and welcome, Jim!<br><br>I bought my JL
Supercar in a set of other "Hollywood" cars, like the
Green Hornet's Black Beauty, the Mod Squad's "Woody",
the Partridge Family Bus, Scooby Doo's Mystery
Machine, and the Austin Powers' Shaguar. It was around $25
from Doll and Hobby. It's great, if a bit
small....<br><br>Larry
Welcome, Kelly! We're glad to have you
here!<br><br>Thanks for the update on the XL5 DVD. I forget where I
had read about the possibility of one coming soon,
but they must have been in error. (DARN!) Oh, well, I
guess I'll just have to go back to rewatching my VHS
tapes until Caleton gets it thru their heads that we're
waiting to buy an XL5 DVD.<br><br>Larry
For those Anderson fans not in the know, the
Playing Mantis toy company that has the Johnny Lightning
die cast cars has produced a die cast version of
Gerry Anderson's SUPERCAR! Depending on where you go,
it'll run from 3.50 to 6.00. It's a great looking
replica and the card is nice too! Good luck!<br><br> Jim

I have most of the XL5 episodes on vhs that I've
purchased at shows and through ebay...also I'm soooo glad
somebody starting releasing PLANET PATROL on video...I
watched that when I was a kid in the 60's as well...what
a comparison to XL5...<br><br> Jim Main
Hi-I'm relatively new here-joined up last week,
but haven't had much time to speak up yet.
I've<br>been a fan of the Anderson shows since I first saw
SUPERCAR when it originally aired in the 60's. Then, XL5
which was on really early on Sat. mornings right after
this show called Modern <br>Agriculture! The crap I
had to go through to watch XL5! But it was worth
it!<br><br> Jim Main
Hi Larry,<br><br>There are no plans at present to
release XL5 on DVD; the next Supermarionation series to
be released will be Captain Scarlet in September
2001, and possibly early next year, Joe 90, (which is
already in the process of being transferred from film to
digital tape for DVD authoring).<br><br>I too hope for an
XL5 release, along with the other early Anderson
shows, but it seems that they won't be anytime soon
unfortunately.<br><br>Even Granada seem to have shelved the plans they had
to release Four Feather Falls on
DVD....<br><br>Still, we live in hope....<br><br>Kelly<br><br>Kelly

If you're interested in getting the 39 episodes
for Fireball XL5 on VHS tape, be sure to watch eBay.
They often have some or all of the 39 XL5 episodes
available on tape for a semi-reasonable price. Also, Cinema
Classics (www.cinemaclassics.com) is a good place to pick
up Volumes 1,3,4,5 and 6 if the officially produced
tapes of the series. For those of you who live in
Euroope and need PAL tapes, be sure to make sure that the
tapes you're bidding on say that they are that
format.<br><br>Larry
I've been reading in various web pages, that
Carleton, the current owner of the Gerry Anderson Series
rights, is considering producing a Fireball XL5 set of
DVD, like the ones they've already made for Stingray
and Thunderbirds! Keep checking here, and please post
if you hear anything. I'm all of us would like to
have this piece of heaven!<br><br>LArry

the "default" album:<br><br>1. A shot of the Earth,

Hi Zed! Good to see you here.<br>I live in the
U.K. and watched XL5 on it's first run back in the
early 60's. Sadly, even over there there were few XL5
related toys. I never knew of the MPC sets sold in
America and am only now trying to get hold of those. I
did have toy Jetmobile ith Steve and Venus on them -
those go for VERY high prices on ebay these days. My
favourite toy was an XL5 you launched with a rubber band
and it came back down by parachute. Nice model. Seen
that on ebay for around £100 /$150. There was an
Airfix kit of XL5, marketed under another name for a
Lyons Maid ice lolly promotion. A great kit. Reissued
as a resin and metal kit about ten years ago. TV21 -
a great comic in the 1960's. I was an avid reader -
nice colour pics on the covers. <br>There were four
XL5 annuals, 1963,1964,1965 and 1966 (pics on the
Space City site of three of them). Also TV21 annuals
are worth getting hold of. I've put a cutaway pic of
XL5 in the default gallery here - it's from the 1966
TV21 Annual.<br>You should look out for 'SIG' and
"Century 21" magazines published in the 80's and 90's.
Very informative magazines about the Anderson shows.
Back issues might still be available from
<a href=http://www.startrader.co.uk
target=new>http://www.startrader.co.uk</a><br><br>And yes! - I bet Steve got
that award mainly for his
singing! (Venus is a mean sax player too!)<br>Kekhlan
My thanks to Kekhlan for inviting me to this
forum after visiting the Space City site (you saw me
there under a different handle).<br>I first saw XL5 on
NBC-TV in the US when I was 11, it was part of the
Saturday morning kids' programming. Had played with
marionettes when I was five, got interested in science
fiction at 8, so a puppet sci-fi show really stopped me
in my tracks when I was looking for cartoons one
day! Unfortunately there wasn't much marketing for the
toys here. I think Gold Key published a comic book,
but don't remember seeing any models. I did write a
fan letter to the show and they sent me a photo of
Steve, Venus, and Robert in Fireball Jr. Lost the photo
probably 38 years ago, but found the same picture in a
book ("The Worlds of Gerry Anderson" I think it's
called) that I picked up at a Star Trek convention. Also
found a few copies of what I think was called TV21
Magazine which had articles on the old Supermarionation
shows. At the same convention I came across a "bootleg"
tape of about 5 or 6 episodes from Fireball XL5
including "A Day in the Life of a Space General", "Invasion
Earth", and "Space City Special". In that one Steve is
once again named Astronaut of the Year no doubt in
part due to his marvelous singing ability.<br><br>Just
as a sidenote, I've been playing an on-line space
strategy game called Planetarion (www.planetarion.com)
where I called myself Steve Zodiac of Fireball XL-5
(misspelled, I'm afraid).
My favourite XL5 episode is 'Day in the Life of a
Space General'. That's the story where Lieutenant
Ninety dreams he outranks Commander Zero. It's a dream
that turns into a nightmare. XL5 ends up crashing into
the control tower - a very memorable scene - and the
end of two impressive studio props!<br>Second
favourite episode is 'Drama at Space City'<br>I didn't
think I'd like this one - on the face of it, a silly
'boy steals space ship' story. It's actually a very
good story and we learn more about Zero and his
family. We also see Venus and Steve on vacation in
Switzerland. They skate very nicely!<br>Third favourite:
'Invasion Earth'. A scary episode with lots of suspense and
excitement. We see just how brave Zero is.
I have one of those Jetmobiles, too. It came with
my small red XL5 that was mounted on a truck. I also
had the small plastic figures of Steve, Venus, and
Robert. I still have Robert, but he's lost his antenna.
The Jetmobile has also lost it's antenna and
handlebars.<br><br>Larry
My latest XL5 purchases are a couple of
jetmobiles. These are soft plastic, complete with figures of
Steve and Venus. They are reproductions of the 60's MPC
toys. Although the jetmobiles are crudely made, they
are quite cute.<br>With some model filler and a some
painting they should look pretty good. I'll post some
photos here soon. You can see a picture of our other MPC
XL5 figures at our Space City website on the main XL5
page. <a href=http://spacecity.tripod.com
target=new>http://spacecity.tripod.com</a><br>That's all the XL5
toys I have...so far.<br>(I do have some model kits
though)<br>Kekhlan
Yes - welcome to the folks we met on the

that Fireball XL5 is still much appreciated. If you
