Nid & Sancy : No doubt one of the most exciting European acts at this moment
are gearing up to visit Asia very soon. Since the release of their album
“Talk To The Machine” and subsequent 12” vinyls “No Fuck All” and
“Sleaze
Boogie” , Nid & Sancy have become one of the hottest names in clubland
,their music hovering on the edge between Rock and Dance, with a healthy
dose of attitude.

In just under 2 years, Nid & Sancy have established their name across the
world in the club community and their live shows have been praised all over
by critics and fans alike. Destined to keep people dancing, Nid & Sancy
deliver a raw, sweath infused synth fest keeping people excited and on their
feet. Apart from their own headline shows N&S have shared stages with

For a long time Bart Demey and Tania Gallagher wouldn’t make music together
– they thought it might put stress on their relationship. Then, in 1999 they
buckled, made a song which they sent to the radio without any track or bio
info. To their surprise, it immediately got airplay. So they sent another
track and that one got played too. When off the back of the radio exposure
they got their first gig – playing in front of 50,000 people at Belgium’s
biggest outdoor festival, they realized that perhaps working together wasn’t
such a bad idea... Back then they called themselves Galacticamendum, a
moniker they still retain when working on scores for film.

So what led them to change to Nid&Sancy?

“Well, part of it was the fact that we stayed in the New York hotel where
Sid Vicious overdosed,” says Bart.
“But then also the press in Europe had started describing us as the Sid &
Nancy of electronic music,” adds Tania.
But the couple hit a major setback in 2002 when on the very first date of
their UK tour, all their equipment was stolen from their car outside a
Holiday Inn in Shoreditch, East London. “We lost like €10,000 of gear, so of
course the tour was cut short – that kind of blew the UK market for us,”
says Bart surprisingly cheerfully. Girding their loins, the pair hustled for
a year to get back to where they’d been before the robbery. Pretty soon they
were back on track. They dropped their first album, “Talk To The Machine” on
Belgian label Lowlands – an intoxicating blend of rumbling analogue bass
lines, guitar attitude and Siouxie & The Banshee type vocals, totally
befitting of their punk referencing. Almost immediately, the first 12” –
“Be
Yourself Tonight,” was picked up by Turbo records impresario and all round
tech/electro/new wave legend Tiga. But it was the second single, “No F*ck
All” that really blew up, appearing on a raft of compilations and mix CDs.
“That album really traveled – it wasn’t like there was a lot of promotion,
or major label backing. It just had a life of its own,” Tania explains.

on a hectic touring schedule that saw them on the road for pretty much two
years. They supported Scissor Sisters in Brussels and played alongside the
likes of French techno artist Vitalic. They played venues across Europe and
the States. “a lot of the inspiration for our new album came out of those
two years…we were exposed to so many experiences,” Bart explains. “Color
at
The Darkest Disco,” which is on limited release for now in Belgium and
Holland is less raw than its predecessor. It has the same analogue feel, but
its less rock dominated, while the influence of pioneering italo-disco
producers Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder is evident. The twisted punk vibe is
there…but it’s generally more melodic and less thrashy.

And word is, their live shows are incendiary – not ones to hunch over their
equipment twiddling nobs, they come off like the ragged and deliciously
sleazy cyberpunk counterparts of their almost namesakes. Yet sitting at a
beachfront café in Legian, their the most smiley, friendly pair you could
imagine. If you want to witness their gutter-glam rock-trash-disco side,
you’ll need to head to F-Lounge on 23 June for what promises to be a
robot-rock showdown of mammoth proportions.
