Welcome to the Empty Nest Fans discussion group! This is a brand new group,
just started the other day. So there probably won't be much action for
a while. In fact, there are only two subscribers so far so we'll just have
to be patient until things pick up. In the meantime, any discussion is
welcome and I'll also try to post any updates to the web site here as well.
Matt
Welcome, new subscribers, to the Empty Nest Fans discussion group. As I've
stated before, this group is new so it will take a while for it to grow
and actual discussion to take off. So be patient and feel free to start
posting.

Just a quick note to say that I recently added a new section to the Empty Nest web site. I came upon a copy of an Empty Nest satire from a 1990 issue of Mad Magazine, which has been added to the site.
And a link was added to a site at which fans can vote for Empty Nest (and just about any other show imaginable) to be released on DVD. I think the show has just over a hundred votes so far.
Also, membership in this group is still extremely small, currently at 5 (compared to the 40-some that participated in the first such group when I began the site) -- this is due in part to my own lack of promotion for it. But nevertheless, if anyone can help generate subscribers and general forum activity, please do so. And I'm always looking for suggestions for the web site as well.
Hi -- I never saw the show, but I did put up a best of Kristy McNichol site in
March, 2003. I felt she deserved better than the other sites done on her that
were quite bad in my opinion.
www.BestofKristyMcNichol.com.
There you will find several photos of her with Empty Nest co-stars at:
http://www.bestofkristymcnichol.com/photos/kristymcnichol_television.html
I did see a VHS of Empty Nest being sold on Ebay -- so keep your eyes peeled for
it.

Just a quick note: The main page of the web site has been reorganized. Drop by and lemme know what you think if you can.
I've noticed that, since placing a link to tvshowsondvd.com on the site, Empty Nest has received some votes and moved up a few notches in that sites Top 500 vote-getting shows list. Not bad!
What site is this? I'll place a link on Kristy's new site. Thanks
Cheryl

Aside from general discussion about Empty Nest, I try to announce any updates to the site via this forum.
I'm going to be updating as time permits very soon, but I'm trying to generate some suggestions for things that could be added. One suggestion I've receieved is a fan-submitted "Where Are They Now?" section devoted to the show's characters. So if anyone wants to send me an e-mail discussing what you think the characters would be doing now, please do - either through this group or at emptynestonline@...
Kristy McNichol made VH1's 50 Greatest Teen Idols countdown, coming in at
number 34. Visit the web site, www.emptynestonline.net for more info.
And while you're there, check out this week's updates -- including a new
section where you can read scripts from Empty Nest episodes.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi -- seeing how there will most likely be increased traffic on
Kristy's site I placed a link to EmptyNestOnline.net so visitors can
check it out.
I think this timing is great of this program -- and that there is a
very comprehensive well done site on her in case people want to check
out what's on the Internet about her.
Here is the opening on VH1 describing the program:
Thanks,
Cheryl

There have been a lot updates to Empty Nest Online over the past few days:
-- Several interesting articles have been added to the Articles page (which itself has been reorganized).
-- The fan-submitted "Where Are The Westons Now?" section is up and running (Send in your thoughts on where the characters are today, either to the website or via this forum!)
-- Updated the Series History page with a section devoted to the original Empty Nest pilot episode of The Golden Girls.
-- Divided the FAQ, Awards, Goofs, and Did You Know? page into separate sections.
Hi Gerald: First visit the latest web site on her www.BestofKristyMcNichol.com
and let me know which photos you'd like and I'll sell them to you! I have most
of those that are displayed.
Or, look under Kristy's name on Ebay.

(1) Our little forum is currently at 12 subscribers -- not great but not bad either. I should really take the reigns both with subscription increase and list activity but I haven't. Please feel free to try and generate interest and activity.
(2) Since putting information about www.TVShowsOnDVD.com on the web site, Empty Nest has jumped from above that site's Top 500 to number 403. If you haven't already, go to the site and vote for the show to be released on DVD. Every little bit helps.
(3) There haven't been many updates to Empty Nest Online over the past couple weeks, but I do have things in the works. I did add a new article, concerning Dinah Manoff, to the Articles page yesterday so check that out if you're a fan of hers. Sooner or later there'll be more additions to the articles and episode scripts pages.
Hi everyone. Here are the latest updates to Empty Nest Online:
(1) I added a note to the News section of the mainpage: I recently wrote a letter to TV Guide in agreement of their bad review of Animal Planet's "50 Greatest TV Animals" special -- in which Dreyfuss was not included. A portion of the letter was published in this week's edition of the magazine.
(2) I added a new script to the Episode Scripts section and there's an interesting tidbit that goes along with it. It is the original script to the "More to Love" episode from Season 5. I say "original" because the episode was written around the Barbara character - who was nervous about attending a Halloween party with an overweight coworker. (Subplots had Carol and Patrick attending the party as Madame Curie and Radium; and Harry and Laverne handing out candy at her apartment.) When Kristy McNichol left the show, the Halloween subplots became the episode "It's Not Easy Being Green," and "More to Love" was reworked around the Emily character and aired later in the season, focusing on Emily's difficulty at attending a high school reunion with an overweight friend.
I just put up for bidding on Ebay a great collector's item of the
huge ad that was placed in a Hollywood magazine "For Your Emmy
Consideration" by Walt Disney Studios for Empty Nest in 1989. It is
a great shot, and especially of Kristy McNichol (My fav).
Can someone tell me if this every one an Emmy? I didn't hear it did
and I was curious.
The item is 11x15 and can be hung on a wall, it is very sharp looking
with it's silver lining and is located for 6 days of bidding at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?
ViewItem&item=3541797119&category=2242
And in case none of you were aware, someone is always selling VHS of
Empty Nest episodes on Ebay as well. Just type in Kristy's name in
the search box to find it.

Yes, Empty Nest did win one Emmy -- Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Richard Mulligan in 1989. Mulligan also won a Golden Globe the same year for his Empty Nest role.
In all, the show was nominated for 6 Emmys and 7 Golden Globes (including a nomination for Best Comedy Series in 1990) throughout its 7-year run.
I'm quitting the club because no one cares if I'm big fan of
Kristy McNichol and I'm taking the phots that I put in the club off
if you want to see the photos than go to my club called geralds photo
club
I didn't know the show was that popular to have been nominated for
best comedy series. I would have to say that is a fairly successful
show, but it didn't make the list of top 100 best shows of all time.
Neither did "Family" either.
Anyway, thought you all might find interesting, after I spent 5
months collecting photos/clips/movies on Kristy McNichol on Ebay I
had the fortune of finding two hot for Kristy guys bidding on her
stuff battling among themselves, willing to pay ridiculous amounts
for things that I bought for $5.00 or had given away to me.
This guy from Germany spent $71.00 on my clippings alone, and then
paid ridiculous amounts of money for simple photographs I had of her,
amounting to $425.00! The other guy bought up another $170, and
another guy paid a whopping $50.00 for a VHS movie.
I was suprised none of you were interested in the Empty Nest photos,
I thought I'd find interested takers here.
At its peak, Empty Nest was very popular and was one of the most-watched shows on television. From 90-92, it was certainly the most-watched show on Saturday nights, becoming more popular than The Golden Girls.
As for the list of the Best 100 Shows, unfortunately Empty Nest lost momentum towards its end and isn't as well remembered as shows like Golden Girls (which is the 3rd most popular show airing in reruns these days). Empty Nest was, however, included in a Best 100 Shows list in 1995. I think it came in around 70-something.
