I just got hold of copies of the Earth 2 disks that were selling on Ebay a
couple of months ago. They are OK, one big flaw, two minor ones, but my DVD
player is over a year and a half old and might be the cause of the big one. For
some reason the first episode on disk 2 won't play all the way through. It'll go
a few minutes, freeze and then skip to the beginning of the second episode,
then play to the end. This is an 11 disk set, pretty good quality, includes
"Previously on Earth 2" scenes at the beginning of each episode - not original
NBC runs, but all scenes are intact. No editing. Each disk has working menus.
Upper right hand corner has a blur where someone took out a network symbol.
Small flaws are pixellation in the "Redemption episode that lasts about 20
seconds maybe, tops. Just Jessica Steen's face can be seen in one of the night
scenes as they go ater the ZED and the rest of the screen turns white in
blocks. Another flaw is in some episodes black surfaces show up as a luminescent
pink or light red - Devon's turtleneck, for example.
Otherwise this is a pretty good set of DVDs to hold anyone over until a
professional set comes out, if ever. If you're like me and your tapes are losing
color and definition this set is pretty darn good.
If you're interested in copies, speak up. We can work out something about the
cost of materials. I don't want to do anything illegal, but I'm willing to
make copies.
