NBC'S "BEHIND THE CAMERA: THE
UNAUTHORIZED STORY OF 'DIFF'RENT STROKES'" -- A CAUTIONARY TALE OF
CHILD STARDOM -- PREMIERES ON SEPTEMBER 4
Series Stars Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges Participated in Project and
Appear in On-camera Interviews in the Movie; Bobb'e J Thompson Stars as a
Young Gary Coleman
BURBANK August 7, 2006 NBC will re-visit one of television's most popular
comedy series -- "Diff'rent Strokes" -- with a movie that
serves as a powerful cautionary tale about the tragedies and challenges
facing the child stars of the sitcom as well as all child stars in
"Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Diff'rent
Strokes,'" premiering on Monday, Sept. 4 (8-10 p.m. ET). Original
cast members Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges participated in the movie and
will also appear in on-camera interviews.
"Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Diff'rent
Strokes'" not only takes viewers behind the scenes of the popular
sitcom, but also follows the lives of Coleman, Bridges and fellow star
Dana Plato in the years after the series went off the air as their
personal lives spiraled downward. In addition, it also examines the
pitfalls of child stardom.
"Diff'rent Strokes" premiered on NBC on November 3, 1978 and
concluded in 1986. Coleman and Bridges starred as Arnold and Willis
Jackson, respectively -- two orphaned children from Harlem who were
adopted by wealthy businessman Philip Drummond. The brothers' sudden
lifestyle change from poverty to the penthouse made the comedy an instant
hit for NBC.
This production which follows previous "Behind the Camera"
movies on NBC that re-created the story and era surrounding "Three's
Company," "Charlie's Angels" and "Mork &
Mindy" -- is produced by Once Upon a Time Films. Bobb'e J Thompson
("The Tracy Morgan Show") plays the young Coleman while Verda
Bridges, Bridges' real-life sister, portrays Bridges' mother.
"Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Diff'rent
Strokes'" is executive-produced by Stanley M. Brooks ("Broken
Trail") and Scott W. Anderson (NBC's "Behind the Camera: The
Unauthorized Story of 'Three's Company'"), with Damian Ganczewski
("Broken Trail") producing. Robert Iscove ("She's All
That") directs from a script written by Greg Pincus and Susan
Rinehart.

Hi, I'm looking for some particular Diff'rent Strokes episodes myself.
I have the first 2 seasons on DVD, but I simply cannot wait for the
other ones to come out. I'm interested in the episode "The Bicycle
Man" and also the episode where Willis gets beat up and put in the
hospital. If anyone has these, please let me know. I'm willing to buy
the tape materials and pay the postage myself.

Yeah, I've bought it. No extras as we all knew, but at least the
episodes are there, uncut. I really hope the entire series comes out
now... we're 1/4 of the way through.

Tracy, the show you're referring to is "Good Times" and Ralph and Janet were singing "You Don't Have To Be A Star" by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. Hope that helps. :)
I am racking my brains out. A little while ago I saw a
clip of Ralph Carter and Janet Jackson singing a song
together, it took place in the 70s. I thought it was
the Dinah Shore Show, but I can't find that either
ever appeared on the show. What show did they appear
on and what was the song they sang?

I found some good information and images of Danny Cooksey who portrayed Sam McKinney in the sitcom Diff'rent Strokes from 1978 to 1986. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0177528/
At age 24, Danny Cooksey is an accomplished actor both on and off the screen.
Cooksey and his mother moved to Los Angeles from Oklahoma City when he was five years old in 1980 so he could pursue a career in country music. When an agent saw his musical act, he was called to audition for the long-running television series "Diff'rent Strokes," where he made his acting debut as Sam, the step-brother to Gary Coleman's character. After three years as a series regular, he moved on to "The Cavanaugh's" where he was a series regular for the following three years. From there he went on to star in various TV and movie roles, most notably the Series "Salute your Shorts" on Nikolodeon, and a small role in "Terminator 2:Judgement Day." Other roles can be found on this site as well.
Cooksey's unique, gravel-cut voice later led him into voice-over acting where his credits include "Super Ted," "Ren & Stimpy," "Tiny Toon Adventures," and Disney's "101 Dalmatians: The Series," among others.
When he's not in the recording studio for animation, he's singing lead vocals with his band, "Lucy's Milk."
Cynthia, the actor who played Arnold's dad is semi
retired. You can learn more about him by clicking
