Another Month come and gone.

Welcome to all the new members and glad to have the old members still around.

I wanted to take a few moments to remind people of some things. And to share a
couple of new items that we have in the group.

NEW STUFF

1. We have a graffiti Wall we can all play with. Once it is is filled, I can go
in and clear it and we can start all over again. Go here to have fun writing on
the wall. http://www.piclibs.com/graffiti.php?id=3041

2. We also have some jigsaw puzzles you can pass your time with. Just go to
http://www.jigzone.com/ms/g.php?ua=621123199a2035247575 and click on one of the
pictures. You can have as many or as few pieces with lots of different shapes.
I'll be adding more pictures as time goes on so we can have a bigger selection
to play with.

And now for the same ole same ole.

A. Please go to the group home page
http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/drnigeltownsend , and on the left there is a
section called "Database". Within this section there are a couple of things
that I would ask you take time and fill out. One is a short "get to know you
better" questionair and the other is for IM information so that if you want to
be contacted by other members of the group, we know how to do so.

B. We are still a very new group. I am completely open to any suggestions as to
how to make this group grow and be fun. After all, look at the actor/character
we are all admiring.

C. Try to keep all your posts to a relatively non-adult manner. That doesn't
mean we can't lust and share fantasies...it just means we want to do our best to
keep the yahoo police from insisting we list this group as "adult only". We
don't want that.

D. Oh, and by the way, in the Database Area, we also now have a table to try and
put together as much of a history for Nigel as we can from various episodes. If
you know of an episode where part of Nigel's history is talked about, even in
passing, go on and list the episode title and what was said about Nigel. We can
really work to get a timeline down that can be used by various fan fiction
writers who want some kind of working character Bible.

E. Just have fun.

If at anytime you need to get something off your chest or just want to write to
me, my email address is devisun @ earthlink.net. You can also reach me on three
IM programs.
AIM-devisun
Yahoo-devisun7
MSN-devisun

For Yahoo, I log in invisible. Go on and tag me and If I am online, I'll answer
you. If I am not online, the moment I get your message I'll contact you. But
I'll warn you now...the best bet is either AOL or MSN. They are on most of the
time.

Anyway, that's it from me. Just have a good time and please, speak up.

The cold room seemed like the most brutal challenge so far.
LOVE Steve as "Creepy guy."

I do hope they start to change a few things around, though, to start to broaden
the appeal to a season 2. Like having  bigger pots, 2 teams and intellectual
challenges as well as physical ones. He could have an estate version of
Survivor. Sort of.

Like any ungracious host, Steve Valentine met new contestants with an
unpleasant surprise — the shock room. Players were instructed to take
off their shoes and socks and enter the room that was booby trapped
with electrical wires. David managed to find the hidden pair of
slippers that was worth an extra $1,000. During the challenge no one
was safe from the electric jolts and to make matters worse, the lights
went out and contestants had to vie for cash in the dark. In the end,
Brian and Kristen were blinded by greed and were consequently the last
two in the room, yet Kristen made it out. Her freedom from the room
was short-lived, though, because she found the least amount of money
during the challenge and was sent home.

For the second challenge, players were given back their shoes and led
by Steve to the wine cellar, where snakes guarded barrels of money.
Yet the reptiles were the least of their worries, as players also had
to brave spikes that suddenly came out of the walls threatening to
poke them. Miriam and Andy began to fight over a piece of
maggot-filled cheese that contained a wad of money. Chris then
incorrectly told other contestants that there was no money in the wine
bottles, which deflected everyone's attention, with the exception of
David, away from the cash-filled bottles. From that point on, all
players began to work together to find cash, but David decided to work
by himself — having no intentions of sharing his finds. In the end,
teamwork failed for Chris, who was trapped in the room, and Miriam,
who was sent home for earning the least amount of money.

The third challenge took place in the freezing room. Players had to
brave bitter temperatures and use mallets to chisel their way through
ice sculptures filled with money. David was given a pair of gloves to
keep warm because he had earned the most money during the second
challenge. Despite their efforts, all players were only finding five
and one dollar bills. Towards the end, it began to snow adding madness
to the harsh temperatures and all contestants, with the exception of
Nikki, were able to make an exit.

Overall, David was the most successful player and he went on to face
the vault. Inside, his arms and legs were shackled making it difficult
to find cash. And though he was able to partially free himself, he
ended up pressing the panic button, losing half of the money that was
in the prize pot. He left the estate with only $13,000.

http://hot-celebrity-news-photo.blogspot.com/2008/11/alltv-crossing-jordans-stev\
e-valentines.html

Steve Valentine, who played Crossing Jordan's sarcastic and witty
criminologist, Nigel Townsend, has crossed over into reality TV. The
saucy Brit has had a varied career, including a gig as a magician, but
had never tried reality TV — until now. Valentine hosts Sci Fi's
Estate of Panic (Wednesdays at 10 pm/ET), a reality show that places
seven contestants per episode in different rooms inside a mysterious
mansion. Their challenges are designed around grabbing the most money
possible from rooms that boast nasty surprises, such as electrical
shocks, snakes, and collapsing walls, until only one remains. We
caught up with Valentine on a break from filming an upcoming episode
of Monk to talk about his guilt over sending contestants into
snake-filled rooms, which challenge he thinks he could never do and
what he's working on next.

TVguide.com: The first episode of Estate of Panic starts off with some
pretty brutal challenges, don't you think?
Steve Valentine: What's even more brutal... seeing the rooms right
before I pushed the contestants into them. I had a lot of guilt about
it in the first episode. They were all very sweet, and they'd be
talking to me off camera and in the back of my mind, I'm thinking
"You're about to go in a room full of water and snakes!"

TVGuide.com: What drew you from doing scripted shows like Crossing
Jordan, over to a reality show?
Valentine: Well, this is something I've never done. I've had the most
bizarre career path you can imagine — I was a DJ in Yugoslavia, a
stand-up comedian on a cruise ship, headlined as a magician in Vegas.
In between all of that, I've always been acting. Those things were
just other interests. But, I've never done anything like this. I've
been approached about reality before and it's not been particularly
either inventive or stimulating. I loved the theatricality of it, and
for me, I feel like I'm playing a character anyway. I'm just getting
more in touch with my sadistic side, I guess.

TVGuide.com: Well, we never hear your name on the show, so you're just
"mysterious owner guy?"
Valentine: They all end up calling me "Creepy Guy," which I'm getting
a little offended by (laughs). I guess I am creepy guy. I ended up
channeling Vincent Price a little bit.

TVGuide.com: Have any of the stunts gone awry?
Valentine: No, I think we've actually been quite lucky. Everything was
double tested. I would test some of the stuff because that was a
concern of mine. I didn't want to be helming something where people
would get really badly hurt ... obviously there is going to be an
element of risk in any of these kinds of competitions ... but
everything was well handled. I was really impressed.

TVGuide.com: Has there been one particular stunt that stands out as
something you could never do?
Valentine: The first time that we took the contestants outside to the
sewer drains, I saw the holes in the ground and they were really
tight. These drains are very tight, tight tubes. I had major anxiety
thinking about going there. A number of contestants were freaking out
— they did it — and I was really amazed that no one refused to go. But
I felt it, when I looked at those dark holes — I wouldn't have done
it. And also, knowing that it stunk down there and again, there were
spiders, snakes, crabs and who knows what else was down there.

TVGuide.com: What's next for you?
Valentine: Right now, I'm filming an episode of Monk — they're in
their last season — I love that show, and I'm playing a magician. It's
called "Mr. Monk Meets the Magician." [Magic's] always been a hobby of
mine, and this is a great character. [He's] so Mandrake (a famous
vaudeville magician) — he's mysterious and a throwback to the classic
illusionists. I'm also pitching a show that I wrote right now.

The SCI FI Channel is jumping into the reality game show arena with
the producers of Fear Factor and former Crossing Jordan cast member
Steve Valentine to bring fans a new brand of extreme TV in Estate of
Panic, which airs Wednesday, November 12 at 10pm. With Valentine
serving as host, contestants enter a mansion filled with money where
they go room to room competing for hidden cash as the house dictates
the challenges they face. The last one to make it through each room
with the most money after confronting their fears takes home not only
their money, but the cash from the other contestants, too.

We've already checked out the Estate of Panic premiere and the first
room in the mansion is easily one of the craziest challenges we've
ever seen. No joke, some of us here at The Deadbolt had to confront
their fear just to watch it. Imagine a room hidden with cash and
filling with water while... that's all we'll say.

Late last week we spoke to former Crossing Jordan actor turned show
host, Steve Valentine, and former Amazing Race and Fear Factor
producer turned Estate of Panic creator, Richard Hall, about what we
can expect from the mansion, how the game works, why people do crazy
things for money, and what Richard's dad Monty of Let's Make a Deal
fame thinks of the new wave of game shows.

THE DEADBOLT: I read somewhere that you guys wanted to get back to
having real contestants instead of aspiring actor types. How did you
avoid those types of people?

RICHARD HALL: You know, we really were very intent on finding people
from all the walks of life, even in southern California. We had like a
soccer mom and a grandmother. And we had...

STEVE VALENTINE: You know, one lady that owned a winery.

HALL: Yeah, one lady with a winery. We had a kind of a lunch bucket
category of guys. And we had younger guys who were just kind of
looking for what they were going to do after college. I mean, we had a
bouncer from a nightclub. We really did try very hard. We had
executive people, managers...

VALENTINE: That one guy who was the ex-gang member.

HALL: Yeah, who is now a youth - works in youth programs.

VALENTINE: He was scary though.

HALL: It was a really good cross-section. And I think 90% of the
people in Los Angeles flirt with the entertainment industry. But for a
lot of people, this was - of our cast members, this was as close as
they ever got to that sort of glamour. But they really weren't taken
in with that because they were so intent on wondering what was around
the corner for them. So in terms of them being real, they were very
real because they had no idea what to expect. And they were always
kind of on edge. And I think that's what made their... you'll see it
in the show.

THE DEADBOLT: How much money is on the line?

HALL: Good question. The house has a fortune inside. It's really up to
how well these contestants play the game as to how much of that
fortune they're going to find. And ultimately, the winnings are
accumulative, shared in a pot for the winner.

THE DEADBOLT: If this lasts a couple seasons, do you foresee some
contestants maybe forming alliances and splitting the money at the end?

HALL: There are rules about conniving. But if during the course of an
event - it's not like after the show is over, you know, one person can
share their money with another. That's usually against any kind of
rules. But if during filming, if there's a situation where they need
to work together to get at a large amount of money, they can work
together and agree to split whatever they find when it's happening in
real time.

VALENTINE: We had that - we had one moment when somebody actually,
when there was two halves of a specific object that were in a room,
that was part of what they had to find and two different people found
- like one person found one half. The other person found the other
half. Now together if they bring back that object, both pieces - if
somebody brings back both pieces together, it adds a lot of money to
the pot.

So by working together they increase the pot at that one particular
point. And this guy did actually give up his half of the money. He
felt confident that he found enough cash that he would be able to go
through the next room.

HALL: Right. There were some working together, but you can only play
that game up to a point. Otherwise you're working against yourself.

THE DEADBOLT: Steve, after you do your hosting bit and they go into
the rooms to do the challenges, what are you doing? Do you watch them
on monitors?

VALENTINE: I watch everything that happens because I comment on it
afterwards. So I'm in the room with the director and the producers,
and I'm watching them. We have like a million cameras on everything
and everywhere. And so I'm in there watching and making notes, and
seeing - and I'm cheering people on - like when you watch the show,
there'll be people who will be cheering on and you'll be saying, 'Oh,
my god. I can't believe they actually did that.'

That's me in the booth. I was very vocal. I was probably annoying the
director at the time. But yeah, I watch every moment of it. I'm super
involved.

Other Conference Call Highlights:

Steve Valentine on whether people deserve to be scared about winning
money:

"Well, you know, I think part of this show is it's fun. It is extreme
and it's fun, and people like to be challenged. But I also think that
part of this show is just to see how far people will go in order to
win money. And on our show, they go pretty far. I mean, I know,
there's nothing that they won't do in order to get the cash. And the
thing of the show is it's right out there. I mean a lot of it's hidden
in the room but a lot of the cash is just sitting there. And it's
tricky because it looks easy. And the great thing about - also about
doing the first season is your contestants have no frame of reference
so they have absolutely no idea what's going to happen when they walk
into each of these rooms."

Valentine on what it says about people who are willing to do extreme
things for money:

"I think it says that people are up for a challenge. I think it says
that people are willing to do more and more extreme things - not just
to win cash, but for experience. I mean this was an experience for the
contestants. It was a chance for them to go through stuff they
probably will never go through again in the rest of their lives, and
stories for their grandchildren.

"I think it's - like Rich said, it's more than just the money because
it's this chance to prove yourself. And I would talk to the
contestants sometimes off camera and we would talk about the game show
and we would talk about the competitions and everything. And for them,
the main reason most of them said they were doing it was for the
challenge."

Richard Hall on what his father, Monty Hall, thinks of new reality
game shows:

"He's a big fan of all of the innovations in TV and, of course, he
sees the seeds of what he's done and other people from his generation
in TV to what's happening today. And he loves it and he's very dialed
into it."

He was one of the few who seemed to be there to actually see what was going on
out there. The fact that he caught that on tape shows that he was right on the
ball. Good job Steve!

the team spent more time playing around than investigating anything.

Oh, and did you see that Steve caught the coat tug on the thermal
camera? That was so cool.

Yeah...The Miz. He's so full of himself.

I saw when Grant got his coat pulled. That was so cool. Good that Steve
got it on thermal.

Dev

He also seems to be the only one of the three guest investigators that
is at least asking good questions and conducting himself in a good
manner.

when you try to add him, read carefully. If I am not mistaken, he has
his profile on private and they ask for either a last name or email.
We all know his last name is Valentine, so put that in the space and
then try to retype the verification code. let me know if that works.

I've checked out his photos and blogs on his myspace. He does look good, and
seems to have a sense of peace about him.
