Hi gang,
I'm new to the posting business. But I thought I'd give you all a heads
up on a news alert I got on Doug. If any of you can find the Jan issue
of Decorating Spaces. Doug is this months Expert in the asking
questions on decorating column. The issue is on sale till the 19th I
believe. I've got my copy. It's a couple of pages long.

I agree Lori the concept is fine. Harold

Doug Wilson, gay? I think NOT. He could be, who knows, but my FEMALE instincts,
doubt it. Ok, maybe it's hoping and praying, he's not.

You are SO right Harold about wasting. It's pure nonsense that used toys would
be tossed out. I have a great collection of teddy bears (about 400!) that I was
going to donate to Toys For Tots, but decided not to for that very reason.

Subject: [Douglas Wilson Fan Club] TS Best of 2005
This is a pretty quiet group.... thought I might try to spark some
conversation. :- )
Did anyone catch the "Best of 2005" special Trading Spaces this week? I
haven't been watching TS much since Paige left, but I still tape DVR it and
watch if it's a Doug episode. I guess I should be happy Paige is gone, since
Doug hosted the special ep.
I thought it was a pretty good compilation of the year. I liked that they
highlighted the "Home Improv" episode and that we got to see a little of
Gen. Thought Doug did a great job hosting... always the "character," LOL,
he seems to really have fun which is one of the things I like about him.
Anybody else have any thoughts?

Why did she leave? I liked her.

Lori,
The Ronald McDonald House is a great concept but I saw so much waste there
when I knew there was other people who could have used their throw aways. If a
toy wasn't new they pitched it instead of giving it to another organization that
would use a used toy. The carpet they had down in the house looked brand new
due to it being vacuum so much by volunteers. Then a carpet company donated
carpets for all the houses in the United States without checking to see if they
needed new carpets. About a month later a carpet cleaning company came in and
clean the new carpet. It didn't need it. I saw the business side of the house
not just the people side that most other people see. I wanted to help an agency
who really needed help and that weren't wasteful so I went and volunteered at a
homeless shelter. Now that is a place that people were so grateful for anything
whether it was new or used. After a while I starting working there and I saw
what was donated and what was paid out. They
were not wasteful like the Ronald McDonald House. I hope you can see why I
think the way I do about the Ronald McDonald House. I don't think Doug saw the
story from both sides but just they helped his nephew and I am so glad they did.
I now volunteer for a LGBTQ center. The center provides a youth center,
transitional housing, free and anonymous STD and HIV testing, needle exchange,
park and bar outreach, education on HIV and AIDS to the community and colleges,
they help kids who are having trouble at school due to their lifestyle and
whatever else they can do. I have seen them grow so much in such a short time.
It is the only center like this in downstate Illinois (Springfield, Illinois).
Their source of income is from grants, donations and fundraisers.
If Doug would ever want to do something for some other worthwhile
organizations that would be Helping Hands Homeless Shelter or the Phoenix Center
in Springfield, Illinois.
Thanks for responding to my email. I just don't like seeing waste in
organizations when so many people need help right here in the United States. I
know we can't solve it all or help everyone. I want to wish you and Doug a very
Merry Christmas.
Take care.

I signed Doug's guest book on the website where it shows the Ronald
McDonald House just yesterday. I told him that I was surprised that he
helped Ronald McDonald House as companies just use them for a tax write
off so I quit volunteering there. So no I haven't heard anything back
yet. Harold

Hey Lori,
I'm the group moderator and basically I am on here just to make sure SPAM
doesn't come through. This group is pretty dead but it would be good to add
some life back into it. Doug has gone a long way since his early days on
Trading Spaces and I'd like to see some energy devoted to this group. I plan
on
reworking the group and coming up with some more things for the homepage.

Hello!
I just wanted to drop a line and say hello. I just joined the group. I'm a
big fan of Doug... not only the "persona" and the shows, but really of his
work. I'm excited to join a group of his fans. I don't know if you guys are
a busy group, but I'm always up for a Doug discussion!

I love Doug Wilson, but, I have a gripe about how they choose who has
the ugliest rooms. If you've noticed in the beginning of each show
they usually have 10 different families with these ugly rooms.
At least 5 of them are in desperate need of real rehab. I mean the
ones that look like they are actually abandoned buildings with rotted
floors and walls etc....
Then it all comes down to the top 3 ugliests rooms, and, TLC or Doug,
chooses the rooms of the families that really have the best out of the
other 10. I find this very strange and thoughtless.
I think the purpose of Moving up was to show people that once they moved on to
newer and better things that they could not go back. Once they go back to look
at their old homes, they see that things change and as life changes, alot people
have a hard time dealing with change. But remeber, this is tv we are dealing
with too. So there will be some scripted drama as well. That is why they get
high ratings. Personally unless you are looking to branch out into the
entertainment field, I think that once you sell your home, why would you want to
go back and look at it redone in somebody else's designs? So why go on a show
like this unless you want to be discovered?

You know that is always the way it seems to be. I mean that he will always do
something interesting , if he paints the squares on the walls, or he puts up
some interesting sculpture, or he does something that is more interesting, than
paint on the walls and moving the furniture, that you slipcovered, you know? I
have just read about some of the theater work that he has done it is quite a
vast spanse of work, more than i expected, although it does help with his
theatrical, spunky, personality that he always uses on trading spaces. that is
what keeps it so interesting to watch, and now i only watch when he is on the
show.

don't understand why that one lady in one of the very first seasons got so upset
about her fire place. I thought the design was amazing and so warm. I have his
book at home. I use it as a Coffee table book. It really is a great way to start
a conversation. Alot of people just don't get Doug. It is always facinating to
me to hear the different reactions I receive. Anyhow, with the statues that were
just on this last episode you were mentioning, that is just what I mean when I
say he is not affraid to think outside the box. He is not affraid to take risks
when it comes to design. LIke the episode when he designed a bedroom and traced
nude figures on the walls. Alot of people
might think that that is tacky, but not
the home owners. So he is a master at his craft and I am a big fan....

Hello everyone, I am just trying to get my thought out, for my first
post, I think of art as your free form of expression, and it seems
that is what Doug's expressions are. So I thought it was awesome to
find a designer, who can express that.
This is my first post & I'd like to say hello to everyone. Doug is a
brilliant designer. I'm an artist myself and appreciate his talent. I
have always been impressed by his style and great color sense. (And
I'm not easily impressed.) I look forward to getting to know you all.
Doug I love almost all of the rooms you have done. The shoe Moving Up
is really really good.Great idea.Just so you know up here on Canada
