Well, England are out of another World Cup. At least it wasn't a dull
game, & we led for a while. There's more to be proud of though; this
year, for once, we didn't throw it all away. A defence beaten only by
flashes of brilliance from Brazil, & a battling spirit which had us
pushing forwards right down to the wire, it's no wonder the fans were
singing long after the final whistle blew time on another
international campaign.

Maybe it's the team's coming-of-age that's bringing new levels of
skill with it, or maybe it's Sven's calming influence, but England
never looked like the riff-raff we're used to seeing on the
international stage. At all times we battled, & often we won. The
lads can come home with heads held high; the 3 lions are still
roaring, & are not ready to be silenced yet.

Bob.

PS The redesigned site is going online any day now. Watch this space.

As of Easter 2002, Clive Bignight will be stepping down as editor &
webmaster of DACU, The Donna Air Online Community. His work in
building the corporate side of DACU has been immense, but at the
cost of DACU's usability; the site has become huge & sprawling, slow
to load & often difficult to understand.

A new editor, Bob Bardsley, will be taking over. Bob hopes to
introduce new features, as well as working a complete redesign of
the existing site to get rid of the unnecessary features & provide
you with just the things you want (& that doesn't mean DACU will be
showing porn!).

Clive will still be producing much of the new content for the site,
under the template of Bob's redesign, so don't be surprised to see
the old 'Bignight' sign-off at the end of some pages, mailings etc.
All new communication should be sent to bob@... however.

We hope this change is best for all concerned, & that it entices you
back to DACU even more than ever before...

Well, there's not been much going on, but here's the latest:

THE ONE & ONLY
--------------
Donna stars as 'Donna' in this film which, according to us.imdb.com,
goes on general release in 2001. We've never heard of it, to be
honest, so we have no idea if she plays herself, or if it's any
good. Check it out yourself if you care that much.

UK PLAY
-------
Apparently there's a new cartoon on UK Play (or PlayUK if you
prefer) which stars Donna as the voice of herself (except, being a
cartoon, she's animated, duh). More on this when we get round to
watching it, in the meantime take a look at a listings magazine to
see if you can spot when it's next on.

FHM
---
Always a pleaser, the January 2002 issue of FHM includes a free
calendar which, although it doesn't list Donna as being on it,
actually features the Girls' Night In cover pic blown up to nearly 2
feet high as the year planner for the whole of 2003 - 12 months a
long time to wait before it's useful, but in the meantime it'll look
pretty hanging on your wall.

That's all for now, more when we have some news, or when DACU is
next updated. Bignight.

DACU's been on a bit of a break as far as updates are concerned, but
we'll be uploading all new pages & fixing a few faults with the site
within the next 6 weeks. In the meantime, our mailing list
subscribers get a sneaky peek at what's to come...

NO WIN NO FEE

This new daytime quiz show hosted by Paul Ross on BBC1 may seem to
have nothing to do with Donna - in fact, the link is tenuous at
best. But we've been starved for news recently, so we may as well
tell you that the show is devised & produced by The Cooler's quiz
wizard Iain Coyle, a familiar face to any of you who saw Donna's
short-lived Challenge TV game show.

HEAT

Heat Magazine, as always, is keeping us running through the dark
ages, with pictures of Donna most weeks & this week an extensive
article about Donna's relationship with Damian Aspinall, whom it is
rumoured she will wed next year. Bastard. Oops, am I allowed to say
that, or is this a site for children?

COMING SOON

Nothing, really. At least not until about 6 weeks time. Expect an
update before Christmas, and we'll keep you posted via the mailing
list, hopefully more often than we have done just recently. But if
you don't hear anything for a while, don't assume we've given up. It
just takes a little time to research new stuff, we'll be back
eventually every time.

Well, Bush's USA finally hit the fan. DACU has never been political,
and never will be, we'll leave it to you to choose whether or not to
mock Bush's inept military defence system & seemingly non-existent
retaliation - the only attack on Afghanistan apparently had nothing
to do with the US military, which begs the question, who made that
attack??

Maybe it's just me, but I reckon someone's having a laugh at the
expense of the USA & Afghanistan, & it might just cause WWIII. Oops.

Well, Donna's taking a bit of a break from the limelight, it seems.
Rumours spread like wildfire about what she's got in the pipeline,
but until something goes on general release, DACU's stuck in a slump.
But our work goes on, always improving the existing site & working on
new updates - don't forget about us!

We need your help - on the Internet, word of mouth is the best advert
a site can get. So please let your friends know we're here - if you
like the site, they might too! I know how desperate that sounds, but
if DACU keeps getting hits, the powers that be will see that Donna IS
still popular, and she'll be back on our screens in no time. Or is
that a threat??

Anyway, cheers for the support, we wouldn't be here without you.

Coming soon - The GQ 'Barbie Girl' interview & photoshoot - yes,
we've promised it before, but it really is on its way! We can't do
everything at once.

If you can't wait, visit http://www.gq-
magazine.co.uk/content/Generic/182/373226-4-1-1.html or follow the
links to 'Girls' then 'Donna Air' from http://www.gq.com/

Also coming soon - The new loaded 'Bella Donna' interview &
photoshoot, a veritable feast of bikini-shots and what sounds
unfortunately like a load of bullshit from Donna. Is our lass
learning to field questions, rather than answer? I genuinely hope
not - Donna's open attitude was the main reason for DACU's conception
in the first place.

If you can't wait for this either, then the magazine is available now
(September Edition!) or visit http://www.uploaded.com/

As always, we're working behind the scenes to improve the site in
general and to provide more features for you, our loyal fans. Enjoy!

As I'm sure you all know, August 2nd is Donna's birthday - we thought
we'd let you know in case you want to send a card. Of course, we have
no idea where to send it if you do, but that's just tough luck I'm
afraid!

Try e4, if you can find the address - we've looked for it, but failed.

Pop along to DAGU at http://www.donnaair.org.uk/ and you might notice
a change - that's because we've worked hard to track down the best
Donna Air merchandise on the web, and make it available to you
through the DACU Community.

Audio, Video, Media & Gifts - including some DACU exclusive products -
are all available, through new partnerships with trusted online
stores such as Amazon and As Seen On Screen.

As for the exclusive products - they can be ordered by our very own
method, DACU Direct. You don't even need a credit card, old-fashioned
cheques and postal orders are fine by us.

The complete DACU Edition of You Don't Know Jack! is ready to ship on
CD, as are desktop themes and an offline version of the whole DACU
Community, so you can have us on demand, without worrying about
spiralling Internet phone bills.

The old DAGU Resource Guide is still online, now at
http://www.donnaair.org.uk/dagu/ if you want to pay a visit - we'll
be updating it soon so it will run faster than ever, and we'll fix
any broken links. It's been a while since DAGU was started up, it's
time for a change.

More games are already in production, we're looking into producing a
DACU version of the new Channel 4 betting show Banzai, so you can
have even more play-at-home fun!

And of course there's the never-ending business of keeping DACU up to
date which, just between you and me, we're a bit behind on. There's
GQ articles, new shows and all sorts of stuff we have to write
articles about - but, as always, we'll work to catch up!

Sometimes I wish Donna wasn't so damned popular!

Stay tuned for more of the ol' community spirit.

Also, a fuller version with more questions and other features will

1) Donna's latest projects
2) DACU Updates
3) You Don't Know Jack
4) Virus Warning
____________________

1) Donna's Latest Projects

Not a great deal to tell really - in fact, we may have told you
before. Donna's working mainly on E4, the digital channel from
Channel 4, with her dating show 'Five Go Dating' and 'Donna In Need',
where she gets whatever she can for free, just for being Donna Air.
Both are only available on digital TV, but Banzai made the move to
terrestrial Channel 4 earlier this year, so you can expect to see
Five Go Dating and/or Donna In Need somewhere in the listings
(probably late-night) in the not-so-distant future.

2) DACU Updates

Just to repeat the latest Discussion Forum message really - the
updates to celebrate our 50,000th hit are still going on, though most
of the work is behind the scenes. The GQ photoshoot will be available
in our next update, along with info on Donna's latest E4 projects.
You Don't Know Jack will be in the Donnabes section shortly after
that, but it might take a little longer to finish that off, so don't
check too soon, we'll keep you updated (for more info on YDKJ, see
below). And we're working on an offline version of the site, to be
distributed on CD - email offline@... if you want to be
part of the beta test run, to get the CD at a discount price, or if
you just want more info.
____________________

3) You Don't Know Jack

You Don't Know Jack is described as 'the show where high culture and
pop culture collide', and we hope the DACU version will live up to
that description. Through five questions chosen at random from a
generous selection, and culminating in the 'Gibberish' round where
you have to rhyme with a famous Donna saying or fact, YDKJ is a
rollercoaster ride of surrealism and pop trivia, centred around your
favourite Geordie, Donna Air. As always, we'll let you know as soon
as YDKJ is available.
____________________

4) Virus Warning

And finally, a piece of friendly advice - if you get a file
called 'snowball2.jpg', don't open it. It's a virus. Not a
particularly nasty one, in fact we were quite amused by it here at
DACU, but it's inconvenient nonetheless. So steer clear of it, k? As
always with files received over the Internet, it's best to make sure
you know it's safe before opening or installing the file. DACU
promise to check all files thoroughly before making anything
available for download, to be sure viruses are never transferred
through our site.
____________________

That's your lot for now. We'll let you know as soon as the next
update takes place. Until then, feel free to use the chat room,
discussion forum or mailing list to contact other DACU users and
Donnabes, or email contact@... with your queries and
comments. Thanks for your continuing support.

This includes:

- Crush songs now available to hear live from DACU

Reports are coming in that the future of TBB is in doubt - Paul
Tonkinson has apparently been sacked, and the girls have been given
six months to boost ratings from a pathetic 300,000 back into the
millions. If Amanda and Donna can't manage that by October, C4's
flagship show may well face the axe, and Donna's career would be left

Dear DACU Subscriber,

as part of DACU's 1st Birthday celebrations next month, we've updated
the site, so not only is there more content than ever before, but
it's now even easier to view than ever before!

The new content includes:

Life Story
-----

- New Fox Hats, including tips on how to contact Donna.

- New TV details, including Operation Good Guys and TFI Friday.

- The DUCEbox has expanded into our content pages, so now you can
listen to Donna's songs from the good ole days of Crush!

- New articles, including the Loaded 'Here Air Here' interview,
FHM's 'Air Time' interview, and The Daily Star's 'Fuzzcocks' article.

- A new section called 'Online', charting Donna's web career (see
below for more details).

- The download problem with the Big Breakfast Interview has been
fixed, so you can now download the audio from the interview in .wav
format, or hear it streaming on the DUCEbox.

In-Vision
-----

- New pics from FHM, Heat, Loaded and The Daily Star.

- More content for the 'Online' section.

Yellow Pages
-----

- Newly researched sites, including fan sites which have been created
since our last update.

- An easy-to-use new structure, allowing you to decide whether you
want a fan site, or a commercial site.

- DACU recommended links, pointing out the especially worthy sites.

- The opportunity to be listed alongside our existing links directory
(follow the mail link from the Yellow Pages if you own a Donna site
and want to be listed).

Random Number
-----

- A freshly sorted directory of links.

- 'Dead' links have been removed.

- Sites which we no longer like have been removed.

- Sites which we like more than we used to have been added.

Black & White
-----

- New categorical structure, allows you to choose between live or
archived services.

- New surveys give you even more chance to influence Donna and DACU.

- Survey results posted for the first time; did you fill in the
Survey? See your comments on DACU! Didn't fill it in yet? Take a look
what others have been saying!

- A new 'Games' section kicks off with a range of java jigsaws made
using images from In-Vision and the new Online section.

- Links to our recently added E-mail service
<yourname@...> and, to put your account into action,
AllCommunity, who offer cash for commercials - visit the site for
details.

- A streamlined Guest Book and Forum, with less from that damn
leprechaun!

- Warning pages for all of our non-DACU hosted services, including
the Discussion Forum, Guest Book and E-mail server.

The New Design
-----

New design features have been implemented to streamline DACU.

- The animated logo is smaller and faster to download, but still
takes you to DACU's main page if you click on it.

- The title panel now holds a slideshow describing the main features
of each section - click on it any time to go to that colour section.

- The DUCEbox takes less space on screen, plays more music than ever
before, gives you the opportunity to buy what you hear from Amazon
(including Crush's debut album), and now includes full documentation
for those who still think it slows things down - don't complain until
you've read the info by clicking on the DUCEbox logo.

- The navbar still allows you to switch between sections at any time,
all colour-coded as before.

- The new 'colbar' navigates within a section (except for 'Online' -
see below), and in certain sections uses java technology to create
drop-down lists. If you're not java-enabled, don't worry. Text links
still allow you to get to any page on DACU, just ignore those little
grey boxes you can see.

- Bigger main panel than ever before, now the navigation column is
gone. This allows our pages to be seen the full width of the screen,
requiring a minimum of vertical scrolling. Even at 640 x 480, a good
few lines of text are visible.

- New font sizes. To reduce the screen space required for each page,
DACU has cut font sizes. Headings are now 18-point instead of 24, sub-
headings are 14 instead of 18, main text is 12 instead of 14, sub-
text is 10 instead of 12 (sub-text includes all navbars and the
DUCEbox).

'Online'
-----

DACU's first cross-colour section spans Life Story, In-Vision and the
Yellow Pages, and is used in the Games section of Black & White.

Online includes pictures and articles about Donna's online presence -
a subject close to DACU's heart, as we are often described as Donna's
official site (we're not quite official - yet!).

- Transcript of The Big Breakfast's Online Chat (courtesy of
channel4.com).

- Article and Pictures from the launch of FreeLoader.com.

- Pictures from Megastar.co.uk (never featured on DACU until now!).

- Article and Pictures from Vladivar Vodka's web site,
www.vladivar.co.uk.

And Finally
-----

That's not all - heavy research is being carried out in all sections,
especially the Games section and 'Online'. If you hear of anything
even remotely Donna-related, please let us know. You can use any of
the mail links on the site to tell us about new content, or E-mail
content@....

DACU are trying hard to become a real community - but we need your
help. If you have a site devoted to Donna, please contact us, we'll
try to arrange some linking deal. Eventually, we're looking to form a
kind of web ring of DACU affiliate sites, we're looking for
volunteers to be part of the first wave of web ring participants.

Finally, please use DACU for what it is - a community tool. Sign the
Guest Book, check into the Chat Room from time to time (if everyone
who visited the site went to the Chat Room for 5 mins when they
logged in, it would be in near constant use), and start a few
Discussions about anything that interests you. You never know who
might be watching - DACU have been told in the past that Donna
herself visited the site in its infancy, though that is unconfirmed
as yet.

Look out for more new content next month, as DACU makes it to 1 year
old!

To all subscribers,

how would you feel about being able to buy Donna Air products online
from DACU? We've received queries in the past from visitors to the
site who are trying to find videos, albums and posters featuring
Donna, and as a result we are considering offering these products via
the site.

Anybody who might be interested in buying such products, please
either post a message in the Discussion Forum on the site, under Andy
Air's query about posters, or E-mail products@..., the
address we are using solely to deal with such queries.

Remember, if the support is there, we will look into the option of an
online store - but if we don't hear from you, we'll drop the idea and
go back to linking to other sites who offer a limited range of
products featuring Donna.

The choice is yours...

To All Who Care:

thanks to the services of everyone.net, DACU now offer exclusive
E-mail hosting via our home page at donnaair.co.uk. Go there now, and
you can sign up for free to have yourname@....

Also, we are gradually adding links so that, where available,
visitors to the site can purchase the background music from Amazon in
the UK and on import from Amazon US. Look in the DUCEbox panel at the
bottom of the screen for these links, currently available on the
black pages only.

New content should soon be available on both the picture pages,
and in the magazine articles pages - check back in a couple of weeks,
to give us chance to create the new pages, change navigation bars,
check links and upload the content - it's a slow process!

Finally, a big thanks to all who voted for Donna in the Shagfest
2000 competition, but unfortunately it was not enough to beat
Christina Applegate, who secured a fairly convincing win over our
lass Donna. Still, there's always the FHM Top 100 - and who knows,
maybe Shagfest '01?

Keep those comments coming,

Clive.

Donna is in the last 64 of Shagfest 2000, the knockout contest to
find the world's most shaggable woman. BUT, she needs YOUR help to
make the cut for the last 32.

Go to http://www.quizzes.btinternet.co.uk/2000/applegatevair.htm to
vote for Donna, and let's get her through to the next round, ok?

Clive.

Dear Valued Viewers,

with so many hits, donnaair.co.uk thought maybe it was time for a new
look. So, we changed:

-the original navigation system has been maintained, but now is
complemented by the use of frames, so that each time you click, all
that loads is the page you want to see.

-new content has been added, as well as better quality pictures and
thumbnails, so you can see exactly what you're downloading before you
click on it.

-background music added to every page. This requires RealPlayer, and
streams live so you don't have to download the entire song before you
can view the page.

-new 'DACU-approved' links pages, to list sites which are a cut above
the rest.

-page spawning and embedding. If you follow a link to a page not
connected with us, it loads in a new window. Otherwise, pages appear
in the main frame (except for the mailing list, which is easier to
view full screen).

donnaair.co.uk has evolved into DACU - the unofficial Donna Air
Online Community, and the only Donna Air site which concentrates on
content, design and features, as well as bringing together all
available Donna resources online - whether professional sites for TV
shows and channels, or amateur fan sites with only a handful of pics.

We are proud enough of our site to list even our closest of rivals -
because we're not interested in beating our competitors. So long as
our message is spread, and people get to know more about Donna, we're
happy.

Look out for more new content soon from FHM and Heat magazine, as
well as new interviews and filmography pages.

Donna's career is growing just as fast as we are - blink, and you
could miss something great, so come back soon to
http://www.donnaair.co.uk/

Yours Faithfully,

Clive S Bignight
Webmaster, DACU

PS Please post to the mailing list, or the discussion forum on the
site, to let us all know your views on the recent changes both to us,
and to Donna's career.

The site was down for a few hours Jan 01 2000 - nothing to do with the
Millennium Bug, we were restructuring, so now all links should work and
the whole site is up and running for the first time. Happy New
Millennium everyone!

Does anyone have anything to say? I'd like to know why people like
Donna - I think she's a great person all round, but I guess some of the
guys just think she's good-lookin'. What do you have to say?
