David Birkitt, managing agent of Z photographic in New York, e-
mailed regarding the GQ pictures. It seems GQ don't actually own the
pictures - John Midgely, the photographer, does. So by using the
pictures on the DACU site, we're breaking copyright laws. The upshot
of it is, we've had to remove the pictures.
The link now takes you directly to the GQ slideshow of the same
pictures, so to the viewer there is little difference. It just seems
a shame that Z are entitled to charge us $1200 for 6 months use of
the images, when I'm sure Donna probably doesn't see a cut of that
fee. I wonder if she's seen any cash apart from her original fee for
appearing in GQ?
But don't go boycotting Z or GQ - these are just personal opinions &
I might be wrong, so if you boycott them I'll probably get sued! I
just thought I'd let you know why the link has changed.
Regards go to David Birkitt for letting us sort this out - he could
theoretically have taken DACU to court and shut us down pretty
easily. Cheers David.
As always, our commitment remains to you, the viewer. We offered to
do a profile on John Midgely, as we received an e-mail asking about
him a few weeks ago, but Z weren't interested. Just another way in
which the free wealth of information which we call the internet has
turned out to be not quite so free as it might be.
