Dear Members,

Firstly, I wish you all a very Happy Easter!

It's hard to believe it has already been a year since the ' Show DJG on BBC' Campaign first started. Back then, I had no idea it would have attracted such worldwide interest, or have so many supporters.

What would you like to see more of on the 'Show DJG on BBC' website? I would be interested to hear your suggestions....which articles do you enjoy reading the most, perhaps 'Korean Insight' or 'DJG Around the World'? And would you like to see more articles about the DJG actors, such as the ones about Jo Jung Eun and Yang Mi Kyung?

Earlier this week, I sent another letter to Sue Deeks (head of drama series) at the BBC. So far I've had no reply - so fingers crossed for a positive response from the BBC this time.

Finally, I would like to thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given me during the past year. Neomu kamsahamnida!

Let's all hope this year will be the year BBC show Dae Jang Geum on BBC!

Best wishes,
Alice

Hi Luc,

Thank you very much for your message. It's so great to hear from my
supporters from around the world! Sorry it has taken so long to
reply....I've been away from DJG campaigning over the summer holidays;
but do not worry, I do not plan on giving up the 'Show DJG on BBC'
Campaign!

Hopefully now that a new commissioning round for autumn at the BBC is
about to start, they will be more willing to consider acquiring DJG. I
absolutely agree with you - the World needs DJG.

Best wishes,
Alice

Alice, very very cool of you to start the DJG campaign!
and also very cool to start this group as well. Maybe the producers
of dae jang geum will meet up with you and thank you one day for doing
all of this. :)

I've watched Dae Jang geum a couple of times, but with limited time,
I''ve also been watching scense here and there. And of course the
music so great too!

I wished that everyone in the world could have a chance to watch this
series, because it is exactly what the world needs now...

I hope more fans come on board -- who knows maybe Lee young ae might
come on board some day too..hehe

best wishes,

luc

Dear Members,

While going through the comments on the DJG on BBC website, I have come across some rather special messages from some of my Korean visitors.
Our Korean friends have been very busy compiling informative historical accounts, the history behind Korean customs, and insights into traditional Korean culture.
I will try to go through as many of these literary gems as I can and post them to this group. I have found them to be extremely informative and interesting, and I hope you will too.

"Korean DJG drama swept Asia by a storm. However, there is one exceptional country. That is North Korea.

Korea has a very difficult problem. That is re-unification. The problem is simply because of North Korean communist regime.

Korea has been a unified kingdom since Shilla unified 3 kingdoms in AD 668. Shilla was succeeded by Goryeo dynasty and then replaced by Joseon dynasty. The name Korea is derived from Goryeo dynasty.

Korea was divided into North and South at the end of World War II, just like Germany was divided into East and West. Germany was war criminal, however, Korea was not. Japan was war criminal but Korea was divided. It happened because of misunderstanding of strong countries at that time. Korea failed to persuade them diplomatically.

Korea is still seriously suffering from the division.

While South Korea was making remarkable success in economical, political and cultural growth, North Korea started Korean war which resulted 3 million deaths and demolition of whole Korea, developed nuclear weapons and chemical weapons, developed long distance missiles, killed civilians by guerillas, attacked president by guerillas, assassinated South Korean first lady, exploded civilian airplane with more than 250 people, killed South Korean cabinet, killed US soldiers using axes, kidnapped US ship, dug tunnel under the Demiliterized Zone for infiltration of spies and soldiers, starved to death 2 million people, lying all over the world, kidnapped many Koreans and Japanese, and many many more.

However, South Korea started a friendly policy in 1997, so called sunshine policy. A lot of foods, energy, fertilizer, and money were provided to North Korea during sunshine policy. However, North Korea shot missiles a few weeks ago, stopped separated families' meeting and disapproved train travelling on the newly connected railroad which connects North and South.

A few weeks ago, they said that South Korea should pay them for protecting with their missiles from US and Japan. Is it a comedy or a tragedy? Actually, their missiles are the most threatening problem to South Korea, and US and Japan are friendly countries.

So, majority of Koreans think that sunshine policy was a big mistake. All the support by sunshine policy eventually became missiles and nuclear weapons.

There are many families separated to North and South during Korean War. Many of them are very old. South Korea want them to meet freely. However, North Korea use them to earn money. They require money to make the meeting and it should be done only restricted area. If South Korea dosen't pay enough, they stop the meeting.

For Koreans, it is too much pain.

South Koreans think it is a mistery that such an evil dictatory communism regime could survive such a long time.

I want DJG drama should be aired also in North Korea, so that North Koreans know their own spiritual culture which was lost by communism."

Thank you for the moving insight, anonymous. Neomu Kamsahamnida...

Best Wishes,
Alice

Hi Elwy,

Firstly, welcome to the group! It is an honour to have our very first email from Egypt! I knew Egypt had begun airing Dae Jang Geum, but didn't know how well-received it was.

I'm so glad you enjoy watching Dae Jang Geum. Expect to be taken on a rollercoaster ride through this drama! Beautiful, heartwarming and at times heartbreaking....this drama is truly an epic. I do hope you enjoy your time with us. And of course, you are most welcome to sign the DJG petition.

Best Wishes,

Dear Members,

There are now 388 signatures on the 'Show DJG on BBC' petition. I'll be writing to the BBC soon and sending them a copy of the petition; so if anyone can encourage more friends/neighbours/siblings/parents/grandmas/family pets to sign the petition, I'd be very grateful.

Be sure to have a second look at my Korean Insight article 'Life as a Palace Maid in the Joseon Dynasty', as I've added a new video-clip to the post. I regularly review and update all articles on my blog, so be sure to check the site regularly.

I'm currently working on the latest DJG on BBC trailer. Meanwhile, please let me know what you would like to see on the DJG on BBC website...

Best Wishes,

Dear Members,

Thank you very much for everyone's feedback. I have received so many email requests for 'more trailers' over the past couple of weeks, that I have decided to produce a third. With the music from 'Chang Lyeon', the theme of this trailer is: 'You have been invited to the Palace (to train as a Palace Maid)'. Dae Jang Geum is so vivid in the portrayal of Palace life in the 15th Century; the idea is that DJG viewers become part of the drama, 'experiencing' life as a Palace Maid as they watch the drama unfold.

And what about my next trailer? Well I can tell you the music is almost certain to be 'Danga' from the Dae Jang Geum OST, the theme I have yet to decide.

Until next time...

Best Wishes,
Alice

Dear Members,

Under the guise of 'DJG Comic Relief', one of our members has started a concept of Dae Jang Geum comic strips. A brilliant idea, I wonder why MBC has not thought of it before! As Dae Jang Geum (aka Jewel in the Palace) has just finished airing in the Philippines, 'DJG Comic Relief' could well be comic relief for any fans suffering from withdrawal symptoms!

Anyone can contribute to the forum, so feel free to use any of the pre-prepared comic strip blanks available, particularly if you speak another language, as there is a dedicated category for foreign language comics.

The link is:
Be sure to check it out and have fun!

Hi Members,

Welcome to djgonbbc on Yahoo Groups, a discussion group for supporters of the 'Show DJG on BBC' Campaign. Here you can your voice opinions about the Campaign, the 'Show DJG on BBC' website; or just to discuss Dae Jang Geum in general.

Dae Jang Geum (aka Jewel in the Palace) is based on the life story of Jang Geum, a real Korean historical figure who was the first and only woman to serve as head physician to the King. The drama has swept so many Asian countries by storm, I believe it will prove to be a great success in the UK.

Together, we can get BBC to air Dae Jang Geum. Not only will that benefit Dae Jang Geum and other Asian dramas; but for Asian culture in general, which will be much more widely appreciated. Thank you for supporting the 'Show DJG on BBC' Campaign!

Best wishes,
Alice Bennell
