Dear Members,

While going through the comments on the DJG on BBC website, I have come across some rather special messages from some of my Korean visitors.
Our Korean friends have been very busy compiling informative historical accounts, the history behind Korean customs, and insights into traditional Korean culture.
I will try to go through as many of these literary gems as I can and post them to this group. I have found them to be extremely informative and interesting, and I hope you will too.

"Korean DJG drama swept Asia by a storm. However, there is one exceptional country. That is North Korea.

Korea has a very difficult problem. That is re-unification. The problem is simply because of North Korean communist regime.

Korea has been a unified kingdom since Shilla unified 3 kingdoms in AD 668. Shilla was succeeded by Goryeo dynasty and then replaced by Joseon dynasty. The name Korea is derived from Goryeo dynasty.

Korea was divided into North and South at the end of World War II, just like Germany was divided into East and West. Germany was war criminal, however, Korea was not. Japan was war criminal but Korea was divided. It happened because of misunderstanding of strong countries at that time. Korea failed to persuade them diplomatically.

Korea is still seriously suffering from the division.

While South Korea was making remarkable success in economical, political and cultural growth, North Korea started Korean war which resulted 3 million deaths and demolition of whole Korea, developed nuclear weapons and chemical weapons, developed long distance missiles, killed civilians by guerillas, attacked president by guerillas, assassinated South Korean first lady, exploded civilian airplane with more than 250 people, killed South Korean cabinet, killed US soldiers using axes, kidnapped US ship, dug tunnel under the Demiliterized Zone for infiltration of spies and soldiers, starved to death 2 million people, lying all over the world, kidnapped many Koreans and Japanese, and many many more.

However, South Korea started a friendly policy in 1997, so called sunshine policy. A lot of foods, energy, fertilizer, and money were provided to North Korea during sunshine policy. However, North Korea shot missiles a few weeks ago, stopped separated families' meeting and disapproved train travelling on the newly connected railroad which connects North and South.

A few weeks ago, they said that South Korea should pay them for protecting with their missiles from US and Japan. Is it a comedy or a tragedy? Actually, their missiles are the most threatening problem to South Korea, and US and Japan are friendly countries.

So, majority of Koreans think that sunshine policy was a big mistake. All the support by sunshine policy eventually became missiles and nuclear weapons.

There are many families separated to North and South during Korean War. Many of them are very old. South Korea want them to meet freely. However, North Korea use them to earn money. They require money to make the meeting and it should be done only restricted area. If South Korea dosen't pay enough, they stop the meeting.

For Koreans, it is too much pain.

South Koreans think it is a mistery that such an evil dictatory communism regime could survive such a long time.

I want DJG drama should be aired also in North Korea, so that North Koreans know their own spiritual culture which was lost by communism."

Thank you for the moving insight, anonymous. Neomu Kamsahamnida...

Best Wishes,
Alice
