I know why so few people do Joxer costumes. It's not to do with
lack of support of the character ...

... Because it's so darn hard to recreate! :P

I did an analysis of his outfit last night. His outfit is frustatingly
close to symmetrical but not quite.

Examples:

His shoulder plates.
His armbands (one is much larger than the other).
On his left hand side, he has his sword, and on his right hand side
(at least in TQIM) he has a dagger.
One side of his pants are brown and the other side is black (or
something like that). He also has a silver bracelet thing on one leg
but not the other.

Some neo-Darwinists reckon that symmetry is regarded as
beautiful, so he'd have good reason to get his armor off.

The "anti-symmetry" fits in with ideas of his "different" dress sense
which could be tied in with Asperger Syndrome, except that I'm too
tired for that right now. :P

DOMICILE OF THE DAMNED

BY: MELISSA MCMAHAN

Xena looking down a pit saw Gabrielle's short blonde
hair, she lowered her arms until you got a hold of the
sides of her head. With one tug the Warrior Princess
fell backwards, as she looked in horror at her best
friends head which had been ripped from it's mortal
remains. Xena screamed Gabrielle's name she then fell
into the shock silene and stroked one side of her cold
face. Tears came from the woman who had seen death one
too many times, as she looked behind her at the dead
bodies of her friends and family. Xena blamed herself
for not coming sooner to save them. She saw Joxer's
helmet laying on the ground. As she slowly got to her
feet she saw that Gabrielle's body was under Joxer's
which had a sword going through them both. Xena knew
that Joxer had tried to protect her his sword has in
pieces on the ground. Her mother only a few feet away.
Gabrielle's folks were hung from a near by tree by
their necks her sister Lilla had been raped and her
throat cut. The little Poteidia farm was burned to the
ground, and Joxer's brother Jace had been burned to
death and the animals had been burned alive where they
had stood as well. The hollow wind rushed through the
barn as it made morbid echos Xena started digging
holes to place them in, as the sun faded into a full
moon. Soon it started to rain the blood mixed with it
and drained into the graves, as she climed out of one
of them Xena was soked in it and cakes of mud formed
on her skin and hair. Once she had spaded up the last
once of dirt from the graves she sat under what was
left of the barn until the rain with the night had
pasted. With the morning light came a tall dark figure
walking towards her, as the man got closer to her she
saw it was Autolycus. He looked into her sky blue eyes
once full of life now totally void of any else but
pain. A barrel had filled with rain rain water he tore
off a rag from his pant leg and washed her off the
best he could as she cried in uncontrollable wails.
Once he had finshed he held her hand and looked at the
graves.

XENA: Their all dead and it's all my fault! (Pauses)
Joxer, his brother, my mother, Gabrielle, her family
and...

AUTO: Xena honey no it isn't. (Pauses) Look you're a
hero not a god, you cannot save the whole world.

XENA: They were my whole world, now I have nothing.
Nothing!

AUTO: It's not much but I'm here for you as long as...
(Hears something) Shh!

Xena and Autolycus look just as Argo like a bronzed
idol stood at the road to the farm.

XENA: Ar... Argo? (Gasping) By the gods!

AUTO: Come on?

Autolycus lead Xena to Argo they got on her and road
off. They got as far as the next town and Xena tied
Argo up to a tree next to an inn. Autolycus went in
and got a room for them. A little later after Xena had
bathed she laid in the bed and fell right to sleep.
When she woke up Autolycus had food waiting for her.

XENA: Autolycus you're a nice guy but you don't have
to...

AUTO: No, just do me a favor and eat.

Xena started to eat and Autolycus was worried about
her killing herself after all she had just been
through. He knew he had little to work with to help
her, however he was willing to do what he could for
her. Many hours went by until Xena went to feed Argo.
Autolycus was in the market looking around when Ares
popped up in front of him, behind a crowd of people
Xena who was trying to find him stops in her tracks
when she sees the god of war.

ARES: See I don't think Xena needs you, I think she
needs me.

AUTO: No the last thing Xena needs is a selfish has
been god who only cares about his own needs, (Scoffs)
I know all about how you first tried to court
Gabrielle then went back to Xena. (Pause) Tried to
force her to giving you a child of your own and I know
she told you what you could do with your 'tude. Me and
blondie may not always get along but she told me
enough about your little mind games on them.

XENA: (To herself) You tell 'em Autolycus.

ARES: Me and Xena have a past together, what do you
have with her thief? (Scoffs) At least she has lusted
after me.

AUTO: It doesn't matter how Xena feels about me. She's
what matters not me and that's than your ego could
ever stand.

ARES: I love Xena!

AUTO: So do I Ares! (Pauses) More than you or she will
ever know god. She has nothing left but me and tha
horse of hers. I'm glad to make her happy if it means
I'm not. That's more than you would ever do for her.

XENA: That's right, Autolycus. (Walks up to Ares) And
that's why you are not invited to our wedding.

AUTO: Excuse me? (Shocked) Um, Xena?

ARES: You are gonna marry this... This mortal?

XENA: Yes, he ask me and I said yes. (Pause) Now get
lost Ares you're not invited.

ARES: This isn't over. (Fades out)

AUTO: Married?

XENA: Well it got rid of him didn't it? (Smiles)
Besides you have a nice tight butt. (Chuckles) I like
that in a man.

AUTO: You mean you want to marry me just to get rid of
Ares?

XENA: Yeah, but don't let it go to your head, we can
always get a divorce.

AUTO: Yeah. (Sighs) Xena I'm sorry about what happened
with your family and friends.

XENA: Well their at piece, it's the living that
aren't.

THE END

I got to agree with you Andjam. I do have one idea
about it though. For the chest plate use gold spray
paint on an old flat pie pan. Putting a few hammer
marks on it should help too. Other than that I'm out
of clues. :) Love, M.Mc

I'm finding out how true that statement is lately. :/

Wow, I never noticed all that about his costume. I knew it was off,
but I didn't realize how asymmetrical it was. If I was wearing
something like that, I'd probably walk around and handle myself as
awkwardly as he does.

Why? So he could "get some"? He's already "getting some" from Meg
whenever he wants it.

He's beautiful in his own asymmetrical way.

He's had that outfit since his pre-Xena days, so maybe its all stolen
and he never thought to steal anything in pairs- including pant
legs. *g*

I've gotta check out the black/brown contrast cuz I've missed that
all these times!

Costuming spoiler for FHTBT

You

can

keep

your

helmet

on

In his usual outfit, some of his arms are visible. But his "suave"
outfit have sleeves that cover these areas. Therefore his "suave"
outfit couldn't merely be underneath his usual outfit, as suggested
by how he "changed" from one to the other by merely getting rid of
some of his armor.

I already knew I was loony anyway.

The weird thing is that most of that stuff I said yes to I did in elementary
school. Sitting on the yellow line in the middle of the road (on which two
cars passed by a day), not knowing what I was eating from the cafeteria
(usual experience), using Jello as a prop in a haunted house my friends and
I put together one Halloween- and haven't done anything like that since. So
was I crazy back then and I'm not anymore? :P

I got only 12.72% insane. Will I have to give up my position in the
Sydney Uni Monster Raving Loony Party of Spokesentity for
Gungan and Ancient Greek Raving Loonies?

One of the questions was about annoying a police officer. I
answered yes, but more for stuff I almost did. A policperson
arrested a friend of mine while we were protesting, and to top it off,
the person was claustrophobic but they threw her in the back of a
vehicle which was a pretty claustrophobic environment (virtually no
light could enter the section). They also threw in as well the
president of the Students Representitive Council. I suggested to
the other protestors that if they want to arrest them, they'll have to
arrest all of us.

At a slightly earlier stage, people were wondering what to do a sit-
in of, and I suggested the security office of our uni.

Greetings! WHOOSH will be releasing its 50th issue in November 2000. We are
asking past contributors to write articles reflecting on how participating in
XENA fandom has affected you and your life, and/or any anecdotes or stories you
would like to share about your experiences in fandom, WHOOSH, or any other
related spheres. These recollections or memoirs do not have to be all positive
or negative. I am looking for an archive of living history about how XENA fandom
in general or WHOOSH in particular affected your life over the past 50 months.

This is going to be an issue dedicated to fandom in all its forms, in all the
glory, with all the beauty or ugliness as it falls; in other words: everything.
That includes all the contributors who made WHOOSH possible. We want to
celebrate the diversity of our contributors. Think of this as a yearbook from
WHOOSH HIGH SCHOOL and we are all in the senior class.

The contribution can be a couple sentences to a book length treatise. I would
like to invite you to participate. If you do decide to participate, please
include an updated biography where you discuss how you have changed or not
changed since your last appearance in WHOOSH.

Please consider joining us in this great achievement. 50 months is a long long
time especially in this here now gone tomorrow world of the Internet. We should
all be proud to be part of a fandom that has fans that are willing to put their
time and creativity where their mouth is month in and month out.

The deadline for articles for the 50th issue (November 2000) will be September
15, 2000; however, any sent ahead of time will be GREATLY appreciated as always.
If you will need extra time, please contact me. Arrangements CAN BE MADE.

I hope this issue of WHOOSH will capture the generosity, creativity, and passion
of XENA fans and memorialize it for other fandoms to envy, emulate, and build
upon so that their fans can be so well served as WHOOSH has been by XENA fandom.

Kym Taborn

PS I apologize if you have gotten this twice. I am going through over 600
articles to send these out and will no doubt repeat many names.

To: andjamgeo@...

Andjam,

Kym Taborn tells me that you are very anxious to see an All-Joxer Special
Edition in Whoosh! I am extending a guest editing opportunity to you for just
such an edition. The responsibilities of a guest editor are the following:

1) Solicit and procure articles thematically related to the edition. Find a
variety of viewpoints to keep the portfolio of articles interesting. A minimum
of 8 to 10 article commitments are required. It's been our experience that
about half of the volunteer writers do not actually produce an article. So it's
best to have at least twice as many lined up as contingencies. This edition
cannot be scheduled unless we know how many and what articles are available.

2) Ask the writers to send the original articles to me for initial formatting.
I will send you the formatted version for content and copy editing.

3) Content edit and copy edit the articles. If you accept, I will send you
some general guidelines for editing with special emphasis on the Whoosh! style
sheet.

4) Pass the edited versions back to me for further processing and editing. I
may ask you to re-edit an article before passing it down the line.

5) Field questions from the writers with regard to content, style,
organization, etc.

6) Report any problems or questions that you cannot resolve yourself to me. Be
judicious when asking me to intervene since I will be busy with my day job and
my own editing assignments. If a conflict arises that cannot be resolved, I
will escalate the issue up to the executive committee. Keep in mind that final
content is at the discretion of the committee.

I will be your only point of contact at Whoosh!. This is not unusual since the
regular staff is accustomed to working independently on their own section of
each edition. With this in mind, special guest editors are expected to take up
the bulk of the content and copy editing work for their editions. So what I am
offering requires a great deal of time and creative commitment on your part. If
you accept this offer, please let me know ASAP.

*** Cracked Eggs ***

Innocence gives way to pain
Summer sun to winters rain
Once love fully blooms they say
Soft petals fall dry astray

Where the hot desert sands blow
Silence babbling brooks that flow
The reflections of shadows past
All we grow to know won't last

Dreams slide from our grasp
Life decays into collapse
Memories of what use to be
Makes days coming fewer to see

New life fist cries of breath
To the sound rattled by death
Creations made by arms and legs
Fragile shells like cracked eggs

Lay the @?#! off Bill!

"Lay the hell off Joxer" (millionaire) actress Lucy Lawless defending
Joxer from "Xena: Warrior Princess", who has Asperger
Syndrome.

"Identity politics"-free section

Sexist, racist, homophobic, ablist, etc. ? Nope. Just as increasing
the number of people going to uni helped increase the number of
people from marginalized groups going to uni, increasing the
number of people using computers means it is no longer the sole
domain of highly educated males. For example, the majority of web
users are female, something unthinkable a decade ago. Microsoft
products are translated into many languages, and all products can
be configured for accessibility in about five minutes, and the web
site has "Disability / Accessibility" as a link on the very first page
(allbeit at the bottom).

"If he gave X amount to charity ..." but he already has.
US$22Billion has been earmarked for charity so far, and US law
requires that 5% (ie US$1B) must be spent per year. There was a
good article on his charity stuff in "Geek bearing Gifts" (Good
Weekend August 26). Most material along the lines of "if he gave X
amount to charity" is from people who don't give a @?#! whether
he gives to charity or not. Also, other billionaires give away only
tens of millions of dollars in charity.

He hasn't spent money extravagantly. Half the time he "should not
have been travelling anywhere" according to "Sir Kerry Gates", as
he booked economy class for all his domestic flights until a few
years ago, when he bought his own jet. This is linked to the point
about charity, because if he doesn't spend the money, it has to go
somewhere, and he won't be passing billions to his children.

"Identity politics" section.

Some anti-Gates material is clearly anti-Asperger Syndrome. For
example, Bill Gates is the target of "Kill X" web games, and such
sites predominantly target those with Asperger Syndrome (for
example, Joxer and Jar Jar Binks) rather than billionaires (no able-
bodied billionaires are the target of such sites).

Disability activism isn't taken that seriously on campus. If it were,
I'd feel more comfortable with criticism of Bill. Also, just because
he's middle-class, white, male, and heterosexual doesn't mean that
ablism against him is OK. It just means that he isn't as badly
affected by it as other people would be.

Comparison of my theories to those who don't identify him as
having Asperger Syndrome.

"They just dislike him because he's successful." If there's one thing
people fear more than people with different backgrounds, it is
successful people of different backgrounds. Many of those who
complain about Bill "Not showing any remorse" may have been
hoping that the anti-trust court case would put Bill "back in his
place".

"Judge Jackson has more irregularities than Judge Judy." This
would be expected if the desire to convict Bill of anti-competitive
behaviour were more based on prejudice than fact. Microsoft has
successfully appealed against Judge Jackson previously, and I'm
fairly confident the same will happen this time.

What do people think of the article?

Andjam

****
I think you need more of an intro or rework what you have. You jump from
uni diversity to Gates' charity donations without a segue to connect the
two, which is quite a jump to begin with.
****

Most material along the lines of "if he gave X
amount to charity" is from people who don't give a @?#! whether
he gives to charity or not. Also, other billionaires give away only
tens of millions of dollars in charity.

****
His donations to charity are well known, and those who say otherwise are
living under a rock.
****

He hasn't spent money extravagantly.

****
True. Maybe a reason people despise him is because they wouldn't be doing
what he does with money if they had it. (i.e. spending it everywhere, not
giving to charity, etc.)
****

and he won't be passing billions to his children.

****
Why wouldn't he pass anything to Jenny Kate? (daughter)
****

"Identity politics" section.

Some anti-Gates material is clearly anti-Asperger Syndrome. For
example, Bill Gates is the target of "Kill X" web games, and such
sites predominantly target those with Asperger Syndrome (for
example, Joxer and Jar Jar Binks) rather than billionaires (no able-
bodied billionaires are the target of such sites).

****
Donald Trump was a target of animosity in the 80s, and he's "able bodied".

I think billionaires, by their own abilities and/or by their PR reps, find a
believable link to the "common man" and depend on that to avoid public
dislike. A good example is Richard Branson, who was a wild child in the 60s
(a "common man" experience), and started his businesses from the ground up.
His outgoing nature and penchant for risk taking was admirable to people,
but it's the general impression he gave- that he's an everyday, personable,
approachable guy- that people find the most attractive. Bill does not give
this impression.

Also Branson has tried to fly a balloon around the world- and he's failed
several times. People can sympathize with failure and the idea that some
dreams just can't be attained easily, even for the wealthy. Have any of
Gates' dreams not come true?

I'm not saying that Branson is a wonderful guy or anything- I'm just saying
that he is more liked than Gates is by the public, and giving my own reasons
why I think that is.
****

Disability activism isn't taken that seriously on campus. If it were,
I'd feel more comfortable with criticism of Bill. Also, just because
he's middle-class, white, male, and heterosexual doesn't mean that
ablism against him is OK. It just means that he isn't as badly
affected by it as other people would be.

****
This is a good segue connecting your thoughts on diversity at uni and
disability, with Gates. It may have been better placed earlier.
****

Comparison of my theories to those who don't identify him as
having Asperger Syndrome.

"They just dislike him because he's successful." If there's one thing
people fear more than people with different backgrounds, it is
successful people of different backgrounds. Many of those who
complain about Bill "Not showing any remorse" may have been
hoping that the anti-trust court case would put Bill "back in his
place".

****
As I said above, nothing has stopped Gates from achieving what he wants- at
least nothing huge that the public sees. A guilty verdict would be a dose
of "real life" that the public feels is needed.
****

"Judge Jackson has more irregularities than Judge Judy." This
would be expected if the desire to convict Bill of anti-competitive
behaviour were more based on prejudice than fact.

****
This sentence intrigues me. So you're saying the desire to convict Bill of
anti-competitiveness is based on fact? I think there are enough facts for
such a verdict. But then you say...
****

Microsoft has
successfully appealed against Judge Jackson previously, and I'm
fairly confident the same will happen this time.

****
So in your opinion the facts will be overruled? I don't think Microsoft
will be able to walk away from this without complying somewhat to government
wishes. The deciding factor may be the upcoming American presidential
election. Of the 9 members of the Supreme Court, 3 are rumored to be
retiring within the next year. Since the president selects them (with the
approval of the House and Senate), things could definitely change.

I think both candidates are pro-Bill. Al Gore once said "why should
we worry about the Y2K bug in the country that gave us Microsoft
and Intel?" (a statement about which he has been made fun of),
and I don't see republicans as being rabidly anti-trust.

Me? Sure! Go ahead, M.Mc, send just what you think of Bill my way. I'd
like to know what you think about the whole thing. You know me- I won't get
mad at you. Though I take your opinions seriously, I love the way you

Andjam, I think you could use me as your PR rep someday. When you come up
