We can do better than this!
I know many of you use your personal email clients to send emails, and that's fine, but please, send one email from SDS Mail so we can count you in the user totals. Knowing how many are participating helps us run the movement most effectively. These movements don't work unless everyone actually does their part. Joining the yahoo group, or signing a petition is not enough.
We have more SDS events coming up for all of our movements, so please make sure to participate in the next one!
'Nancy Drew' Contest
The new 'Nancy Drew' Movie opens today, and one of the articles about the movie compared Nancy to KP:
"Nancy Drew might seem like a hard sell to the tech-savvy girls of today. Written in a time before cell phones, computers and iPods, Nancy is a bit different from modern-day teen sleuths Veronica Mars and Kim Possible -- those crime-solving
girls in low-rise pants, armed with high-tech toys and smart-mouthed sidekicks."
SDS is hosting a 'Nancy Drew' contest giveaway thing in association with Warner Brothers pictures. They has provided us with some cool prizes for this contest. We have posters, iPod Nano covers, t-shirts and makeup bags. Can you track down all the clues and win big? If you like free stuff, enter the contest here: http://savedisneyshows.org/nancydrew/
Each prize has a unique clue code associated with it. You'll need to search the site to find the code for your chance to win that item. And
guess what? You've just found the 'Bag' Clue! It is "Hollywood"

The email totals from sdsmail.org have been posted on here on the forum. The KP fans where there, but what happened to everyone else?
There are over a hundred people on this mailing list now, not counting the people who get it from a yahoo group, and yet no more than 35 people sent an email through sdsmail.org. Where is everyone?
Anyway, we have more events coming up for all of our movements, so
please make sure to participate in the next one!
An opportunity not to be missed
I would like to thank William Robinson for bringing this to my attention:
A window of dialogue has opened.....
This letter was published in the 5/21/07 issue of TV Guide:
Aw, How Suite
I'm so glad to see The Suite Life of Zack & Cody getting recognized [Family Page, 4/16]. Though it's on the Disney Channel, it can be enjoyed by all ages. --- Dave Carlson, Livonia, Mich.
Now, this is a good thing because attention is being given to Disney Channel. A nod to Suite Life will make fans glad. Most importantly, the idea that Disney shows are family entertainment is highlighted....
But right now would be a nice time for Disney Channel fans to make their opinions heard by TV Guide. The floor is open to you...
Animation fans? Tell
them shows like Kim Possible are also great family entertainment. If you're grown up and love the animated shows, mention that as well. If you're sad to see programs like Lilo & Stitch end, it's a good time to mention that too....
The fans of other live action shows should speak up too. Phil of the Future fans can offer reasons why that show is family friendly, and that it shouldn't have been canceled. Suite Life fans could chime in, and agree with the letter writer's opinions.
This is just a suggestion to use an opportunity. I'm not saying you should dump upon Suite Life, but merely let this magazine know what you feel about your favorite Disney Channel shows. If nothing else, it can show them you value their family focused programming.

New Disney Board Member!
Let's welcome Susan Arnold to the Disney Board of Directors
First, I'd like you to read this article about Susan Arnold's promotion to the board. It will give you some good background into her history and past performance.
Now, I'd like you to write her a letter welcoming her to the company. Let her know you hope she constructively adds Disney
Legacy, and stuff like that. You can see a copy of my letter here.
Now, mail your letter to her at this address: Susan Arnold 500 S. Buena Vista Street Burbank, CA 91521
If you typed your letter, you can also email it to Susan.Arnold@..., but please do not just email it - send a paper letter first.

Summary of Upcoming Events
Save Disney Shows Day is May 13th, 2007.
As you (hopefully) are aware, US postage rates increase from 31 cents to 41 cents on May 14th 2007. So let's use up the last of our 39 cent stamps writing to Disney the day before the rate increase takes affect. This is a day for fans of all shows to come together and petition Disney as a whole. Save W.I.T.C.H. Day #1 is May 15th, 2007!
It's time to step up the save W.I.T.C.H. campaign. Our first Save W.I.T.C.H. Day #1 is May 15th. Visit http://savewitch.org/day.html for all the details.
Save Phil Day #15 is May 21st, 2007!
The Save Phil movement started with a bang in December 2005, and continued strongly through the summer of 2006. But participation fell off, and while more people join everyday, more give up each day. So the time has come to make a stand. Day 14 went well enough that is worth continuing the fight,
but we desperately need everyone to participate. If we can't make have an event comparable to what we've done before, then we're just wasting our time. So let's prove the naysayers wrong and save this show now! Visit http://savepotf.org/day/ for all the details.
Kim Possible Legacy Day #2 is June 7th, 2007.
We kept Kim alive in 2005, but now is the time to secure her legacy for all time.
KP's fourth season is amazing, but it will be over soon enough. If we want to see the show have any chance of continuing in any form (whether that be a fifth season or another movie) we have to start pushing for it now. Disney was ready to throw Kim away after what was supposed to be her last adventure (So the Drama) in 2005. The fans brought her back, but Disney's logic still needs changing. We
want KP to live on forever, and that requires a strong episode base to draw from.
Legacy Day #1 was a decent effort, but it's going to take more to get the show renewed again. Let's show Disney that the fans still care - a full five years after the premiere of the show! For more on KP Legacy Day / Save KP Day please visit SaveKP.com.
Save Jake Day #3 - June 10th 2007
Our first Save Jake Long Day was a strong, and the second day was okay, but we need a big third day to happen. As we've learned from prior campaigns, the second and third events are the most important for setting the wheels in motion. We've compiled everything needed for this event on our website, here: http://savejakelong.com/day.html

Contacting the Media
I received in my inbox today, issue 101 of the TiVo Newsletter. The editor of this newsletter, Shanan discussed a new show that she found and liked, and ended her editorial with the question: "What are you watching?" Well, let's tell her about KP, Phil, AmDrag, etc. Disney owns a share of TiVo, but they should be independent enough that we might be able to get some good publicity. Send Shanan one email at: editor@....
While you're at it, you should send an email to Pluggedin@... and/or bya@.... Plugged In is a new fox news morning show that puts an emphasis on Internet related news. BYA (Because you asked) is another morning show that tries to answer good questions that aren't being answered elsewhere. If a sizable number of people sent one email (please, no more than one per day) we might have a decent chance.
Three emails from everyone could big help for all the movements, but it has to be everyone for this to work. And
remember, if you really get into it you can always use the media contact email program to reach more media outlets.

Forwarding Domains
In our on going efforts to make it easier for fans to find our movements, webmaster Greg has registered two forwarding domain names. The first, SaveJakeLong.com will take you to the save ADJL section of SDS. The second domain, AmericanDragon.info will

The Email Program is Back!
Our "world famous" email program has been reborn, after we had to move it off of SDS last year. It took webmaster Wayne quite a while to get this back up, and we hope it is useful for all of our campaigns. We're still working on revising the template messages. You can find the new program at SDSmail.org
New Forum Layout
It's been a few weeks in the making, but our new theme "fwsblue" is done. Webmaster Greg installed all the MODs and did the rest
of the required coding to make it work, and Webmaster Zei provided amazing graphics for it. Our old theme was great, but this one is amazing. Check it out at the SDS Forum. You'll need to switch themes here if you're already registered.
We're looking for talented members
When we worked on the Kim Possible season four campaign, we had two webmasters just working on that campaign. Now we have three webmasters spread across five. We're also looking for people who would like to help with other areas of the site, like this newsletter, our podcast, advertising, etc. If you think you can help, email Webmaster Greg and he
will try and match you up with a position that needs filled.
This concludes this edition of the SDS newsletter(s). Thanks for reading from all of us at Save Disney Shows.
Robert, I'm happy to see you join.
Thanks for helping to spread the word, too. :)

Hi, all--
I just joined today. I'm a member of Save Kim Possible, and I happen to
enjoy
W.i.t.c.h. as well (the comics more than the cartoon, though).
I put a link to Save Disney Shows on the Kandrakar.com forum, so there
may be some more people joining soon.

It was November 2005 when the renewal of Kim Possible was announced. Now, over a
year later, we know when the fourth season will start.
At 8pm Eastern/Pacific on February 10th, Disney Channel will show four new
episodes of the series. They are:
8:00 -- 401 -- Ill-Suited
8:30 -- 404 -- The Big Job
9:00 -- 403 -- Trading Faces
9:30 -- 409 -- The Cupid Effect
And on New Year’s Eve, Disney premiered the first promo for Season four. The
video is available for download from Kim Possible Fan World at this URL:
http://www.kpfanworld.com/video/commercial_1.mpg
In the 15 second promo, Ron has a nightmare about his new relationship with
Kim.
It's wonderful symbolism for Ron's nervousness. Kim was fooled by Eric in StD.
She thought he loved her, but he not only betrayed her, he was specifically
created to betray her. Ron knows that he cares about KP, but in the back of his
mind, he's worried that the "real KP" wouldn't like "a loser like him." He's
scared to death that this won't work out - as we all would be. And this
nightmare is a reflection of that fear. And that makes it a perfect teaser
because it shows us that their new relationship will be complex. It won't be a
two minute conversion to bunnies and roses.

One thing that caught my eye a few days ago on eBay was a W.I.T.C.H.
Gameboy game. Apparently, it was to be released in the US last
September, but Disney canned it before it was released. Here's the
amazon.com listing:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009ELZXS/ref=reg_hu-wl_item-
added/102-8532771-6951304
But, the game is available overseas, and that's why you can buy it on
eBay.
As one might expect, I'm really ticked off about this. They created
the game. They had planned to release it, and had a release date set
for it. But then they pulled the plug at the last minute. After
spending all that money in development, they would only pull it if
they thought it would sell extremely poorly.
And if they weren't willing to distribute a game that they had
already made, it looks like they aren't planning to renew the series
either.
We have to do something about this.

I'm happy that the fans were there for KP, but I can't believe that the
fans of all the other shows I've wanted to save can't seem to gather
enough support to get anything done. I refuse to lose W.I.T.C.H. next.
IF it's the last thing I do, we are going to save this show. But I need
your help, and the help of many more fans. I know there are a lot of
international fans, and we know those international fans were a big
part of KP's renewal. If we can reach enough people, we can do this.
A good place to start is to reach out to as many W.I.T.C.H. fansites as
possible. I don't know how "developed" the online fan base is, but I
hope someone here knows of places we can start.
There are 26 of us in this group right now, lets try and double our
membership in the next 30 days. If we can't make that goal, then we'll
know that we have to try something else.
Halloween is by far the best recruiting day of the year. All year long we spend a lot of time encouraging everyone to get out there and find more people who don't yet know about our movement(s). This might be by posting flyers around town, wearing SDS tshirts and/or by posting about us online. But on Halloween, kids (and their parents) come right to your door. So put a couple flyers on it. Or pass out handouts with the candy. It's a great opportunity for near free promotion that should not be wasted. Start printing your flyers and handouts now!
We're still about $65 (how ironic...) short of what we need to renew the website's hosting plan for the next two years. And we're gonna need some extra funds beyond that if we're gonna try and find another host for the email programs. Please visit http://savedisneyshows.org/donate.html to chip in if you haven't already.
After two weeks, our host has reinstated our account. Our Save Phil day on 9/21 and the additional bundled events including a Kim Possible day on 9/25 generated a lot of emails over several days. This put a lot of strain on the shared server, and that's why we were suspended. So we've had to remove the email programs for now. It's possible we may be able to get a limited version back up, but that won't be for a while if we ever do. On the plus side, everything else on the site is exactly like we left it. The regular forum is open again, and all the posts are still there. And the profiles are still messed up from when I was playing with it before the site was suspended. I'll be getting that fixed soon. As for fundraising, we still need your donations. The current plan expires in early November and we only have $53.92 available of the $80.64 we have raised so far. See http://savedisneyshows.org/donate.html for a breakdown of how much we've raised and what we've used so far. Also on that page is my mailing address for checks and money orders, and our paypal address. Hopefully we won't have anymore problems with the site for a long time, but whenever the site goes down again, we will be using http://g2i.us/sds/ again, so keep it bookmarked so you can find it whenever we need it. Once again, thanks everyone for your patience throughout this ordeal.
This is an overview of the continuing technical difficulties we are experiencing with SaveDisneyShows.org. I hope to cover all your questions at once.
1) The website was locked/suspended on September 27th due to an alleged terms of service violation. I've contacted my account manager who referred me to the abuse department for more information. So far, they haven't replied to my requests for more information. We can't really do anything until they reply.
2) The website's up for renewal in one month. If we cannot reach a good solution before then, we'll be moving to a new host.
3) This morning, I was informed by Mike that he probably won't have enough money in time to pay for the full renewal. Which means I'm starting an emergency fundraiser. We're gonna need ~$170 as soon as possible. Maybe more depending on if we move to a new host. If 17 people between our numerous movements can kick in just $10 it would be
enough. If anyone here can donate any amount, please reply to me by email (anitrain@...).
4) A copy of the SDS site has been uploaded here: http://g2i.us/sds/ This version is buggy due to the fact that different pages may reference pages that don't exist on the new server, and other pages still reference the old website instead of the backup site. It's better than nothing. For sending emails to Disney, we recommend sending from your personal email clients for the time being. The list of email addresses is here: http://g2i.us/sds/email-list.html
5)
Other domains that reference pages on SDS may or may not have been updated to use the backup site. For example, savepotf.com has been updated savekp.com has not. More will be switched over as time allows.
6) The databases for the forum, ohana shout out, spoilers page, etc. Are not moved over 'cause we don't have backups (that we can find at least). :( We have a new forum set up on the backup site at http://g2i.us/sds_forum/ It's the best we can do for the time being.
7) So for now, each show's movement will rely heavily on the individual yahoo groups. So if you have friends that followed any of the movements on the websites, make sure they join the groups!
Everyone, thank you for your continued support during this time of severe difficulties.
This month three new episodes have premiered on Toon Disney (And I believe there's another one this coming Saturday). They've all premiered on Saturdays at 7:30 AM Pacific Time. That's 11:30 AM Eastern, and I actually missed the first new episode beacuse there isn't a west coast feed of TD - only the east coast feed. And the Toon Disney schedule on disney.go.com Doesn't even remotely correspond to what's on the channel.

What I could really use is a bunch of High Quality Screen caps to make web promotion banners and flyers with.

I got this article from another Yahoo Group I'm in. It's a worthwhile read for everyone who wants to understand why the Disney Channel does what it does, and what they hope to achieve.

Here's an interesting article from the Hollywood Reporter about how Disney has changed and become a success, since switching from a pay cable channel in the mid-1990's. It's rather lengthy, but I think a few people here will find it interesting.
Disney Channel a youth market creative force
By Kimberly Nordyke
When Disney Channel hit its adolescence in the mid-1990s, the cable channel underwent an age-appropriate, top-to-bottom
transformation.
After 13 years as a pay service, Disney Channel accelerated the shift to the basic tier. Little kids were out as a primary target audience; tweens and young families were in under the new regime that arrived in 1996, led by former Nickelodeon and FX executives Anne Sweeney and Rich Ross.
A decade later, against all odds and the fickleness of its 9-14 target demo, Disney Channel is on a tear. The push into live-action original scripted programming has yielded a string of hits, including its first to reach the 100-episode milestone, "That's So Raven," and most recently, the "High School Musical" phenomenon. The made-for-TV toe-tapper, which some have dubbed "Grease" for the MySpace generation, exemplifies the Walt Disney Co.'s skill at turning successful TV programs and their stars into cottage industries extended far beyond the channel.
Industry insiders say the cable channel has
become a leading creative force for youth entertainment that has gone a long way toward taking the Disney brand into the 21st century.
"I think what the channel does great in that they have found that sweet spot where traditional Disney values meet MTV culture," says Debra Martin Chase, executive producer of the Disney Channel movie musical franchise "The Cheetah Girls," starring "Raven's" Raven- Symone. "They do this in a way that is organically multicultural, in a way that reflects what our society is today."
Businesswise, Disney Channel is a cable cash-cow for its parent company, generating more than $700 million in revenue last year, according to industry estimates. But perhaps more importantly, it has taken off as a star-making platform for the young talent that filters through its shows.
Shia LaBeouf was the star of the first live-action series to have real traction, "Even Stevens"; in 2003 he
starred in the successful tween feature "Holes" for Disney and in last year's "The Greatest Game Ever Played." Hilary Duff launched her multihyphenate career on "Lizzie McGuire," and she had a highly successful telefilm in "Cadet Kelly." More recently, the network is making stars out of 14-year-old twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse, who lead the cast of "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," and Miley Cyrus, daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and star of the newly launched series "Hannah Montana."
Disney Channel's growth during the past decade played a big part in Sweeney's elevation two years ago to the top television post at Disney, as Disney-ABC Television Group president and Media Networks co-chairman. At the same time, Ross was promoted from head of programming to president of Disney Channel Worldwide; more recently, Disney said Monday that Ross also will now preside over the Radio Disney Network, a 24/7
radio network devoted to kids, tweens and families that will become part of the Disney-ABC Television Group.
Gary Marsh, Disney Channel Worldwide president of entertainment, also has been a pivotal player in the channel's transformation.
Ross says he and Sweeney realized early on that Disney Channel needed a new strategic focus with its shift from pay to basic tier. While Nickelodeon was the 800-pound gorilla in the marketplace with kids in the 2-11 age range, Ross saw a big void in programming aimed at the slightly older kids that have long been a hard demo for television to reach. The term "tween" wasn't yet a household phrase, but Ross was confident that a new "kid-driven, family-inclusive" strategy would be the right path for the new-model Disney Channel.
"There were not a lot of entertainment options (for the tween demo)," Ross says. "We knew the way to get them was with live-action
programming."
It started with original movies that gave them enough traction to move into live-action series with such shows as "The Famous Jett Jackson" and "So Weird." But it was with the debut of "Even Stevens" in 2000 that Disney Channel finally hit tween paydirt. That show provided a lesson to Ross and Marsh of the importance of sticking with an actor they believe in, even if it takes a few tries to find the right vehicle for his or her talents.
"The ('Even Stevens') pilot tested terribly -- (LaBeouf's) character was a depressed loner, and no one liked him," Marsh says. "But we were convinced he was a star, so we redeveloped the show from scratch as a comedy and picked it up straight to series."
Star quality is just one of the characteristics that Disney Channel execs look for when they're casting a show. They're also looking for a supportive family behind the child and always make it a point to
meet their families before casting them, which tells them a number of things about the kids themselves, including whether they really want to get into acting or are being pushed into it, Ross says.
In addition, "we're looking for kids who are able to not just nail the part but also have the personality to transcend the role and define the character," Marsh says, also noting that "Raven" originally had a different title and star -- with Raven cast in the sidekick role -- before being reworked so that Raven became the star and the character's personalities were changed to better suit the actress' personality and talents.
Ross and Marsh note that it's important for the families to be included in the professional lives of their young star-in-the- making. Sometimes, the actors' family members will even become part of the cast. One example is "Hannah Montana," which also stars Cyrus' father, who joined the series
after she got her starring role and the execs realized their father-daughter chemistry would be hard to beat with another actor in his role.
The way the Disney Channel execs see it, the network serves as sort of a talent incubator of young thespians for all divisions of the Walt Disney Co. For example, Raven-Symone also voices a role on the network's "Kim Possible," released a solo album on Disney's Hollywood Records, has roles in "The Cheetah Girls" and its upcoming sequel as well as in the company's feature film "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement," recently signed an acting and producing deal with Walt Disney Pictures and is a business partner in a "Raven"-branded consumer products line.
In the case of "High School Musical," the telefilm's script has been licensed for local student theater productions starting in the fall, Disney Theatrical Prods. has a 90-minute stage production in development for
a regional tour and the movie and soundtrack already are a hit in such international territories as Australia, with the movie's debut across Europe set for September. In addition, the stars all have other projects in the works -- not to mention the "High School Musical" sequel, set to premiere next summer.
Michael Poryes, co-creator and executive producer of "Hannah Montana" and "Raven," says the channel's selective approach to development helps them focus on finding gems rather than volume.
"When they make a pilot, they really want it to go to series. ... They really get on board and make a concerted effort for your success, which is terrific," he says.
Fellow "Hannah" executive producer Steve Peterman adds that Disney executives trust the judgment of their creatives -- citing the fact that Miley Cyrus wasn't the most experienced actress who auditioned for "Hannah" but the execs agreed to take a chance on
her "because we felt like there was something so special about her."
Marsh says the network's track record in fielding hits also has been aided by sticking to a handful of overarching guidelines when developing new series. For one, the show has to reflect the real world that kids live in -- everything from the clothes they wear to the music playing in the background. Shows must have comedic elements, but story lines also need to offer its youthful viewers some "navigational tools" for life, whether it's a practical matter of dealing with a bully at school or a more philosophical message about the importance of honesty and integrity.
Finally, Marsh says, Disney Channel shows must always present an optimistic view of the world, appropriately enough, and the shows must appeal to a range of viewers -- not just tweens but also younger kids as well as the adults who might be watching with them.
Whatever the
formula, it's working for Disney Channel around the world. Among basic cable channels, Disney Channel has been No. 1 in tweens in primetime in the U.S. since 2000, averaging a 4.3 rating with the demo year-to-date.
"The channel has helped redefine what Disney means to the world. It's a 24/7 reflection of Disney," Marsh says. "We're showing that Disney can live in the real world as well."

If you're a fan of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, you might want to consider joining our new TSL group: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/save_the_suite_life/ It's currently doubtful if it will get a third season, so we hope to make sure a third season happens now so we don't have to fight for it after it's cancled (Like we're doing for POTF...)
If you're a fan of Disney's W.I.T.C.H. you may want to join our new yahoo group for this show: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/disneyswitch/ Starting in just over a month, JETIX (and W.I.T.C.H.) will only be shown on Toon Disney - so everyone watching on ABC Family won't be able to see the whole season! So we ask you all to help us petition Disney to continue showing W.I.T.C.H. where everyone can watch it.
