They may feud on their CW hit Gossip Girl, but off-screen there is no drama between Blake Lively and Leighton Meester.

"I've never really had a competitive relationship in any work situation," she says in the December issue of W. "The media is always trying to pit us against each other, I guess because it's just not interesting to say, 'Everyone gets along; everybody just works 18-hour days and goes home to sleep.' That's not fun to read, I guess."

Besides, she says, the cast is too busy to bicker.

She says they must chew through a 55-page script every eight days.

"You get used to it. I can read a four-page scene once and have it memorized," she says. "It's a skill you learn in school: disposable cramming. We're flying by the seat of our pants a lot of times, which is why I enjoy doing films. It's a change of pace. It sounds cheesy, but with a film, you get to let each scene marinate."

The perks of working so hard?

"I probably have, like, 60 gorgeous bags," she gushes. "I have a closet with my really sharp, fancy, nice ones — the ones that go with my Valentino pumps, for example. And then I have a closet with the ones that are a little more rugged-feeling, the kind that go with my Belstaff motorcycle boots."

Lively says she is slowly transitioning to the big screen.

"I've been learning as I'm going along," she says. "I thought, 'Okay, I'll try a movie. And I was loving films, so I thought, 'No, I don't want to try TV.

"But now I'm loving being on the show more than I ever could have imagined," she says. "It has been just the most amazing experience anybody could ever ask for. It's such a blessing."

She shed serious pounds to play a bulimic beauty queen in the upcoming indie Elvis and Annabelle.

"Beauty queens are still very toned. So I lost weight, but I got toned," says the actress, who says food is "the No. 1 love of my life."

How did she shed those pounds?

"I just made chicken breasts from Whole Foods on a George Foreman Grill, with asparagus and broccoli."

Adaptations from page to screen can be bumpy, but Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar says overall Josh Schwartz and his crew have been spot-on. "I'm a very faithful watcher… Generally I'm entertained and I think it's great," she tells MTV.com. Von Ziegesar does have one bone to pick with the producers: their depiction of the TV version of Vanessa, played by Jessica Szohr.

"I think Vanessa is one character they ruined," she says. "In the book, she's kick-ass and has a shaved head and wears lots of black. I think a lot of the readers who don't usually read teen fiction identify with Vanessa," In the show, Vanessa has more of a bohemian hipster look. The author clarifies that it has nothing to do with Szohr, adding: "I just wish Vanessa was like she is in the books a bit more."

She may disapprove of Dan Humprey's bff, but von Ziegesar gives the rest of the characters a thumbs up, admitting she loves bad boy Chuck Bass. "Leighton Meester is totally perfect for Blair, and Blake [Lively] is perfect for Serena. I was more worried they would insert Barbie-doll-looking people, which they didn't," says von Ziegesar. "I think the actors do a brilliant job. Chuck is my favorite character, and the way he looks and acts is in keeping with how he is in the beginning of the series." –Christina Tapper

The queen bee of Gossip Girl's Upper East Side announced at New York's Fashion Week that she will be recording and releasing an album, reports Access Hollywood. Meester has always enjoyed making music, but this time around, she wants the public to hear her work as well.

The budding fashionista told Access, "It's so cool because it's a completely different creative process," than television. Meester enthused, "From beginning to end it's yours and you make it... You can see the finished product."

Perhaps her role as teen pop star Justine Chapman on Entourage inspired her to bust out her first album. Either way, you can be sure many a Blair-wannabe will pick up her album and blog their little hearts out about its merits - or lack thereof.

Meester will also be appearing alongside Gossip costar Blake Lively on NBC's 30 Rock, as well as reprising her role as Justine on Entourage this Sunday, Sept. 14 at 10 pm/ET on HBO. - Erin Fox

"He would ask their advice on acting and even get starstruck by the Friends stars' beauty," the source says. "He said they were always sweet and tipped well." Hopefully Chace does the same now!

Unlike the troubled socialite she plays on Gossip Girl, 20-year-old Lively's real-life relationship with 21-year-old costar Penn Badgley is remarkably scandal free.

"Penn does these silly dance moves, and he's very witty and quick, so it's fun to have sharp banter with him," she tells the magazine.

"When you're saying these words that people are making you say to one another, nothing about it is real or genuine," she adds, when asked about how actors fall for each other. "So if two people connect outside their characters, then that's how they get together."

But Lively does fess up to one thing she has in common with character Serena van der Woodsen - she's passionate.

"When I care about somebody, whether it's my best friend or somebody who I would date, I give them all of my heart," the youngest of five children says. "I've just been so loved, and I'm used to really loving people and trusting them."

Good news: Serena and Dan are hooking up in episode two. Hurrah! Bad news: They so are not long for this world. (Wah-wah.) Meanwhile, Nate's dad continues to be a schmuck, and Nate continues to be the man of the family. And I'm also hearing that the boy Blair uses in a blatant attempt to make Chuck jealous is hot, and will do the trick!

I've heard of no plans to have any of the characters we know come out or even dabble in the second season-well, aside from little Eric van der Woodsen, por supuesto, who I'm told will have a love interest or two. Still, if the book series is any indication, Gossip will be getting gayer by the season, according to Penn Badgley. "By the end of the series, I think they got so bored writing the same things for 12 years, they were like, 'Let's just make 'em all gay,' " Penn says. "Chuck ends up gay and has a monkey on his shoulder that dresses in similar outfits." Oooh, please tell me that's true on the show, too.

Inside sources are spilling on the latest romantic entanglements on Gossip Girl's Upper East Side, including news that the show's original golden couple, Nate and Blair ("Nair"), aren't reconciling any time soon-thanks to a certain new cougar who's ready to pounce.

This pretty (older) kitty is none other than Mädchen Amick (ER, Viva Laughlin), who, according to CW insiders, will appear in the season premiere on Sept. 1 and is expected to hang around for four or five episodes.

Word is, Mädchen is heavily involved in Nate's storylines and also has "a surprising connection to another new character on the show." (The kind of connection that juicy twists are made of... and that's too good to reveal.)

Still, if Chace Crawford (Nate) has his way, this won't be the last of his love interests. "Nate's kissed every girl on the show, and I think it's going to keep going toward that direction," he dished to me at a recent CW event. "Well, except Mrs. Van der Woodsen, but give it time!"

As for Queen B, don't feel too sorry-she'll have another boy to keep her occupied all season long. "You're not blind. You can see there's chemistry [between Blair and Chuck]," Leighton Meester [Blair] told me while shooting her upcoming guest spot on HBO's Entourage. "It'scute. But I think this time around it might be different because the first time it was just like this drunken, passionate thing, and it just went away, like, the very next day. I don't think Blair really wanted it, but maybe this time she does. Maybe she needs him. Maybe he completes her."

This is the latest coming out of Camp Gossip Girl after the Hollywood Reporter reported this morning that executive producer Josh Schwartz and his crew are working on a Gossip spinoff, most likely surrounding Taylor Momsen's character, Jenny Humphrey (aka Li'l J), who was the subject of a spinoff series for the Gossip books.

I just emailed Schwartz himself to get the real story, and he tells me the rumors are not true:

"Not sure how this got out there, but no plans for spinoff at this moment," Schwartz tells me. "The books do have a spinoff, but we have nothing in the works right now other than making sure season two gets off to a great start."

Holla! Personally, I'm thrilled to hear that Schwartz is keeping his creative mojo focused on the two shows we already know and love: Chuck and Gossip Girl, you?

A well-placed source inside the CW also tells me there are no current plans for a spinoff; however, "If the second season does as well as we expect it to, then we'll probably try to make it happen."

I sure hope not; one good girl is enough. Serena is so sweet, she makes my teeth hurt.

Go, Lydia! We need more backstabbing "B's" on "Girl."

Even more new faces next week: Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" babe Michelle Trachtenberg appears as Georgina Sparks, a girl from Serena's past who threatens her social position. And Jesse Swenson, a new hunk from Broadway, will catch Jenny's roving eye!

Seen here with Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass) made the ladies swoon with his thick British accent�and made it impossible for Josh Schwartz to understand a word he said. He gave two thumbs up to the pairing of his character, Chuck, with bratty girl Blair. Of her portrayer, Leighton, he said "How could I not [be happy]? I mean, come on, look at her." Awww...

Penn Badgley, Gossip Girl

The show's resident good guy, Dan Humphrey (played by Penn Badgley), will get dirtied up a bit this spring...though his lady love, Serena, will likely get in more trouble. Schwartz promises the return of "bad girl" S.

Kelly Rutherford

Kelly Rutherford's character, Lily, may or may not be a bride to be. "We are building toward a wedding, but we won't say whose [wedding] or if it happens," said Savage. As for Lily's shaky relationship with Rufus Humphrey, Matthew Settle doesn't see why it would be a problem for their respective onscreen kids, Serena and Dan: "It's 2008. I think they should have a double date..."

By the way, Blair and Jenny go to war this spring, Schwartz told the audience. But when Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg), a blast from Serena's past, shows up, Blair will be very intimidated...
