I don't think places like HMV seem able to cope with such large
amounts of episodes, they've never stocked the Cell Block H full
release either as far as I'm aware.
So I think they'll be just online sales, although it would be nice for
some stores to maybe pick them up for the viewers who are not on the
internet.
At the moment the Archive DVDs are only available from the Network site. Does
anyone
know when they'll be available to buy elsewhere? Or are they planning to bring
them out as
boxed sets perhaps?

Paul Henry to play Tony Hancock for Birmingham's Maverick Theatre
Exclusive, By Jon Griffin, Business Editor
Source: birminghammail.net
BENNY is to make a comeback - in the legendary shoes of Birmingham's
best-known comedian Tony Hancock. Paul Henry, the actor behind the loveable
simpleton who became a Crossroads star, will be in the spotlight again as
tortured genius Hancock.
The Aston-born former TV actor, who has suffered heartache in his own life
including losing his teenage daughter in a road crash, is reviving his
career to play the comic who committed suicide at the age of just 44 in a
Sydney hotel room.
Paul has agreed to star as Hancock in a 25-year-old play being re-adapted
for modern audiences by not-for-profit Birmingham production company,
Maverick Theatre.
Hancock's Finest Hour will tour Britain in around 18 months' time, with Paul
taking to the stage in his biggest theatre role for years.
Maverick Theatre artistic director Nick Hennegan said the tiny Birmingham
company had bought the worldwide rights to the play, written by actor Colin
Bennett, for five years.
"I am hoping that this will put Paul back in the spotlight. It's going to be
a unique production and we would like to kick it off in Birmingham," said
Nick.
"The play is set around Hancock's dressing room while he waits to go on for
a TV appearance with interviewer John Freeman. There is a lot of pathos and
sadness but it is also very funny.
"It's a fairly tall order for Paul - it's only a three-hander and runs the
whole gamut of Hancock's life.
"It's a big part and a difficult part but I think it's also the perfect
Birmingham dream team with Paul as Hancock."
Like Hancock, Paul Henry, now in his 60s, has suffered a troubled life, with
the biggest blow the death of his 18-year-old daughter Justine in a road
crash in the late 1980s.
His luxury home in Barnt Green, near Bromsgrove, was later repossessed after
he racked up debts of more than £400,000 following the axing of Benny from
Crossroads.
He had gone from earning £100,000 a year to nothing, but rebuilt his life
with his wife Sheila with pub and bar ventures in the West Midlands and
occasional TV work.
Nick added: "I can't speak for Paul, but I know he was devastated by the
death of his daughter.
"But he's still a really strong actor and I am hoping that with the Hancock
play, we will really create a big event.
"This will be his biggest theatre role for years. It is going to be touring
all the major towns and cities in the UK for a 16-week run."
Nick added: "Paul has started learning his lines already .
"I really hope this is going to put him back on the centre stage
nationally."
Nick is now on the lookout for sponsorship for the play.
"I am hoping that we can find a Birmingham company who can stump up some
sponsorship. This is a unique opportunity."
Ex-soap star Jane at theatre

A FORMER soap star will head the cast in a production of a classic
Hans
Christian Anderson story next month.
The Snow Queen, starring Jane Rossington who played Jill Chance in
Crossroads, will be performed at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre from
February
11 to 16.
The story tells how the Snow Queen captures Kay, a young orphan, and
takes
him away to her ice palace.
But she didn't bargain for his fearless sister, Gerda, who sets out to
rescue him.
On Gerda's adventure she meets the Tsar of Russia, Princess Popishka,
the
funny robbers and a host of colourful animal characters, including
Mossy the
Reindeer.

There is a good interview with Heather on the
www.crossroadsfanclub.co.uk site.
Last time I saw her, she was playing a fabulous 'Valerie' type
character in Casualty.
It has some nice Crossroads photos in it, including one of a view of
all the sets in studio during the 1970s.
On sale at Amazon.co.uk, a photo of Crossroads from the book and more
information is here:

Just a reminder to all that I am still working on revising and updating
my notes on the Crossroads Retold website. Having bought more space on
the web hosting I am now expanding my notes to hopefully provide a
fuller picture. I'm also putting in links within the notes which
correspond to the episode's on the Dvd's so it will hopefully be easier
to fill in the details of plots surrounding the dvd episode's. It's
still a work in progress and if anyone has any suggestions they would
be gratefully received.

Ordered mine yesterday. My copy is priced at £8.50 but that could
be the price minus the VAT which Jersey hasn't got. We've got a
bloody GST tax instead which our government in it's wisdom is
imposing on us when we already pay much more for goods in Jersey...
moan, moan!
Unfortunate that most of the episodes on Archive Vol 1 are already on
the previous DVD releases but good that we have a few surprise ones.
Good on Sue Nicholls for keeping that episode, pity we couldn't find
other 'lost' episodes this way. I am, of course, interested in
seeing any early Ronnie Allen episodes.
Am missing the Network forum like mad...roll on February!

The first of the monthly installments. First one only £9.99. Includes
the Tish being held hostage episode, and the 500th edition which had
previously been lost, but Sue Nicholls kept.
No it seems it was chopped out so another Advert break could be
included. Might be in the repeat if they ever repeat it.
However the ITV Press Release for the programme was never changed and
still stated that 'Coronation Street, Emmerdale Farm and
Crossroads'would feature.
did I blink and miss the clip??

Thats a good question, I would think they'd be able to buy as and when
you wanted but I don't know for sure.
They say they will be released every month. But if say you missed Feb
is that it? So once the month is over and it moves onto the next
volume does the previous release stop being sold?
I worry that by releasing them in order, by the time we come to the
colour episodes which will be the most popular, demand may not be what
they thought and we won't get to see them.
16 episodes per month. I suppose £19 is good value, well if they keep
the extras. No extras then that is a bit steep.
TBH do we know how long at 16 per month it'll take to get through what
is left?
Well that is fantastic news isn't it. But will they still be putting
the fabby extras on too? It wouldn't be the same without some bonkers
clip of Nolly doing something random in the 1950s.
