Hi D.L.!

The '68-69 Paramount music I was referring to was the original Paramount TV
fanfare, not the Desilu fanfare (the Desilu fanfare was the one that preceded
this one).

And I'm amazed that you've never seen Mannix, one of the greatest action shows
of all time! If it appears again on TV Land, you have to watch it (TV Land did
air the John Ritter episode, which was the final episode of the series, as part
of the network's tribute to Ritter).

Jason, you might know this one: weren't those box transitions on Mannix also
featured on Mission: Impossible as well?

Best,

Mark

Sorry, kiddo. That was custom made for Mannix only, as it was a part
of the series' image. M:I's editing techniques were all quick cuts
throughout their entire run. They did have some fade ins in the
pilot episode, though.

Something I found in a wrestling newsgroup:

Why do you guys hate me? Why do you think
I'm some creation of a guy who was in a foul
mood? I am the Viacom V, the one you keep putting
down. I zoomed in because I was so excited to see
all of you! I wanted to be your friends! Maybe
my approach was a little to extreme, but I'm
not here to hurt you. Please, let's be friends.

I went to see "Cat in the hat" on November 29th and I also saw the
logo variations and I remember the Imagine variant. It started
nearly the same, but the Imagine lettering was in the Cat in the hat
font, with white letters and a blue background.

The people working at the convenience store on my campus were watching
the video of the movie, "Go," and at the beginning of the video there
was a montage featuring all of the older Columbia logos as well as
clips from various movies from the history of Columbia Pictures. At
the end there was a Columbia 75th Anniversary logo, which I think
somebody posted here somewhere.

On behalf of the staff of Team FX 2000, I can assure you that
successful progress is being made on The Closing Logo Group
SuperSite. But as with all operations (medical or technical),
patience is a virtue.

As you may have noticed on the new design of The SuperSite, there
are new features being added, and surely as you came in noticing how
superb the Site was when it was originally known as The Movies &
Television Logo Galleries, you wouldn't want the final outcome of
the renovation to come out lackluster, right?

Right.

A lot of hard work AND research was put into these websites in the
first place from a hardcore research team who shares the same divine
love and interest as the rest of us. Team FX 2000 represents the
missing link that insider entertainment enthusiasts have seeked for
years and decades. Have no fear for the delay, for the job will be
done. Much of the groundwork has been laid out. The blanks will be
filled.

Think of it like looking for a rare logo rendition.
When you finally capture it, you'll be pleased indefinitely.

The celebration continues.

Does anyone know when any companys started? Because then I could
predict when some aniversary is coming up.

I used to think that 2005 would be the 100th aniversary of Universal
because the 75th was 1990. But then I realised that 75+15=90 so it
will be 2015. Oh well. But then they will probably have a new logo
just like the 75th.

Could do this one while the plane is crashing to the ground. Right
before impact, the V of Doom comes for you, than BOOM! "Or 'while
sitting in an airliner in the sky?'" just wouldn't have the same
impact , unless your crashing!

Hey Guys!

Here are two I'd like to see:

the color United Artists logo from My Mother, the Car (NOT to be confused with
the one from Rat Patrol; I'd like to see the color version of the one that
closes up to form the stacked UA)

the Four Star 'flying diamonds' logo as seen on 1967-69 eps of Big Valley

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jason!

Thanks for answering my inquiry about the boxes and Mission: Impossible. I
thought I'd seen the box transitions on M:I--guess I was mistaken, or else
really young at the time!

Now for another question in a similar vein: I'm sure you're familiar with the
style of Quinn Martin shows in regards to the opening of scenes. For example,
the 12 O'Clock High acts come onto the screen with a clock format, the FBI acts
come onto the screen with a cut-out of the Capitol building or the FBI seal, the
Invaders acts come onto the screen with a rip-away entrance, Cannon acts come
onto the screen in giant dots...you get the idea.

Anyhow, I was wondering...is there a specific name for this type of effect? Are
those called transitions? Wipes? Or is there some technical name for those kind
of effects? I'm just curious to know...

Thanks in advance, as always. :)

Hello again!

I thought of another logo that may be scary to some: the Mirisch-Rich logo from
Rat Patrol. What makes it a little frightening? After a few seconds, the logo
suddenly flies forward and bounces back! The sudden movement might make a few
people jumpy.

This logo was changed midway through the second season of Rat Patrol, possibly
due to the fact that Lee Rich (the Rich half of the company), left to set up his
own company, initially to produce commercials, but soon afterward, this company
became a powerhouse in TV production: Lorimar.

The new logo was for the Mirisch company, consisting of a psychedelic-looking
"M" on a yellow background: four different colored sticks appear one by one to
form the "M". There's nothing remotely scary about this logo.

Just wanted to share...

You may already know about this one (I know of it because of a tape I got from
fellow member Mark Lungo), but there was a special version of the infamous 'V of
Doom'.

It appears at the end of a two-hour Twilight Zone special that was released in
the late '80s/early '90s. The special was comprised of three TZ episodes that
were not included in the original syndication package for legal reasons: the
half-hour eps "Sounds and Silences" and "A Short Drink From a Certain Fountain"
and the hour-long ep "Miniature".

Anyhow, this special featured a different Viacom V of Doom, with different
music: as the music played, these words flew forward from the screen, one at a
time: "Special", "Delivery" and "From" followed by the VOD.

Apologies if you already know about this one...again, just thought I'd share.

AFAIK, they're all referred to as transitions in general. The common
ones used on TV and Film are cross fades, disolves, iris (circle
in/out, page peel, slide, wipe and rotate. We'll talk more about
this later this week.

Hi..

What's up with a "scary" logo?

How on earth can a 4 second clip of sound and animation at the end of a show be scary?

I can see where some are more memorable than others, such as the old "revue studios" end tag, but scary?...hardly.

I don't think that any of the studios had thought of any of there end logos as scary. If by seeing and end tag of a show scares you, then God forbid if you were ever to see Bugs bunny drop an anville on Daffy duck's head.

And what do you do on October 31st?..hide in your closet?

Just don't get it....

Does anyone know what that mask in the MGM logo (below the lion) is
supposed to represent? Masks as symbols in show business are usually
a pair, one happy, one sad. The MGM mask looks more like some African
tribal symbol. Makes as much sense as the Hollywood Sphinx.
