Subject: Worldvision (Early 1994) Logo on "The Doors"
classictvman...
Send Email Send Email

I wanted to tell all of you here about this: last night, when I was watching the
end credits of the 1991 Oliver Stone "rockumentary" The Doors (a Los Angeles,
California-based classic rock band known for such hit songs as "Light My Fire,"
"Break On Through," "Hello, I Love You" and "Touch Me" among others), starring
Val Kilmer as the group's singer Jim Morrison, at the end, there was the rare
version of the Worldvision "WHOOSH Globe" logo with the Blockbuster
Entertainment ticket logo next to the globe logo.

Supposedly, this variation had ran through the first half of 1994 and was then
replaced by the version where the "A BLOCKBUSTER ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY" byline
(which was all text on the earlier 1994 version), which is positioned below that
of the Spelling Entertainment byline, has the company's name represented as the
ticket logo.

I understand that this logo appeared because Worldvision (now CBS Television
Distribution) had inherited the Carolco Films library as part of a syndie
package after Carolco went bust (Orbis Communications was Carolco's syndication
arm until their downfall). This film was presented by Carolco Films.

That was the one I was looking for, I remember seeing this logo on "Double Dare"
when it was on KTTV back then.

That is a rare find. As it is, the fanfare as seen on the show "Hong Kong"
itself, as well as
Fox shows appearing on ABC during 1961-1963 had yet another variation on the
fanfare.

Indeed, there are rare logos out there, like the Telepictures Perennial, the Evergreen Programs (Worldvision's Subsidiary), and the omnipresence of John Blair and Blair Television. Thanks for sharing!

If anyone here has heard R. Kelly's latest hit song "When a Woman Loves",
they'll notice that the opening notes of the song sound a lot like the current

Here's an interesting twist on a closing logo:

Go to page 51 of this link. Notice the ad promoting plans to launch a very
popular game show, but adding a...well, titillating concept to a tried-and-true
format.

Now notice the Viacom logo and where it is positioned in the ad. Given the new
game show concept and the location of this logo, it gives a whole new meaning to
the term "V of Doom". *lol*

Respectfully, I like NBCU's new logo typeface, but you're right: even though the peacock will remain NBC's logo and the globe will remain Universal Studios' logo, the new NBCU logo type won't be complete with out those two respective logos (or at least what I call the Peacock-Globe combination "The Proud Globe", nicknamed after NBC's 1980-1986 logo "The Proud N"). Someone call the petition for NBCU to add the "Proud Globe" to the new logo font.

NBCU had to make a clarification to this. The logo was so bad even Brian
Williams made fun
of it on the nightly news.

They explained that this is the corporate logo for the parent company. NBC
TV and Universal
Media will keep their existing logos.
