Comments: This episode was probably the best of the season, so far.
Certainly better than anything from last season. The presentation of
each performance was a sight to behold. High marks must be given to
the behind-the-scenes people: make-up artists, stylists and
celeb-coach-of-the-week, Cyndi Lauper, for bringing out the 80s spirit
of each performance. Audio clips wouldn't do justice to most of the
performances. I highly recommend watching the video clips once they're
available. They were THAT entertaining.
That said, I felt Ashley and Tyler were the few to successfully merged
strong vocals with stage presence; both have come a long way from the
bar-singing box they were in early on.
I'm still not getting rockstar Rob of the last few weeks, but I think
I'm starting to fall in love with rockstar Steffi.
Even Eva showed a rock side I didn't think was possible, performing a
very passable rendition of White Wedding.
Wind Beneath My Wings doesn't have a good Idol track record, but Craig
did possibly the best vocal of it I've heard. My only complaint was
that it was incredibly short. (It's unbelievable how much invested
effort is put into 1:30 minute performances, and we rarely see them
reach their full potential as artistic performances.)
Finally, Brandon and Chad continue to appear in over their heads,
bringing subpar vocals and amateur night presentation.
Predicted boot: Brandon
