Comments: This episode had some promise when Sarah started things off
with a fairly solid performance of "Life is a Highway." The vocal was
not faultless, especially shaky in the beginning, but she nailed the
chorus and had nice presence. Then the quality of the singing steadily
spiraled downward, as one subpar performance followed the next. You
could pick a few bright spots from each and every performance but,
with the exception of a few, none could put it all together. Rob hit
more than a few bum notes, despite looking more confident than ever.
Tyler couldn't pick a more blander rock song to nail. Steffi, Brandon
and Kati seemed comfortable on stage but, vocally, were out of their
league. Strong contender, Craig, was unusually off on spots and the
song lacked melody. Ashley's song choice and vocals were blah as
usual, but her rocking stage presence was, in short, amazing. Chalk up
another incredibly average performance by Chad that maybe goes over my
head. Finally, the show was capped off by a stunningly confident Eva,
who sang Nelly's Powerless. Talk about a return to form! Look for an
mp3 of her performance to be posted soon.
Predicted boot: Rob. His vocal miscues were terribly obvious,
especially in the beginning. He had nice energy and hit that
glory-note at the end, but I doubt it's enough, since he doesn't have
a strong fanbase to fall back on and the fact he sang early in the
night additionally hurt.
