Hi Everybody,
I was reading so many posts that I thought I'd just dump this all into
one.
First of all, Wren, darlin, I got you beat at 42.
Amy, all my fanfic is currently posted on the fanfic page, but I'll be
working on some soon and Ed has graciously offered all of you as beta
readers. So, I might put you to work. It's nice to see that someone
actually wants to read it. It has never ceased to amaze me that when
someone takes hours of their time to work on something just for the
amusement of others without expecting any reimbursement that it could
stir so much sentiment both pro and con. I know that Patrick and Keith
can both sympathize with that. The poor webmasters take their fair
share of abuse. For that matter, Gary, our wonderful videotographer,
has also found out how hard it is to please.
The marathon was terrific. They gave quite a few hints as to what we're
going to see on Tuesday. At least you guys will first, that's hobgoblin
night around here and I have ghoulie duty. As soon as we return with
the ill gotten extortion from the neighborhood, I'll watch the movie.
I'll either tape it when I'm out or pick it up on the later showing.
The Greatest Adventures of CHIPS was pretty well forgotten by TNT until
a bunch of people hollered loudly. TNT ignored that as well so they
took their plea to Larry Wilcox who got Rick Rosner to request that it
be shown. I've never seen that one so I'm really looking forward to it.
I think all the guys looked terrific. You know, Patrick, Rick isn't
what I expected him to look like at all. I don't know why but I was
expecting a larger person. Now, I'm going to bug you a little. Will
there be any surprises at the chat on Tuesday? :)
Well, I'm off. Off my rocker, off topic, offline, off beat, and often
confused.
Marcia
I just discovered and subscribed to this list today. What a shame I didn't
happen into it before!
At 34 I'm probably one of the older members of this grouping - I was 12 when
"CHiPs" first came to the screen, and have been a fan of Erik Estrada from the
first episode. Thanks to the Internet, I now realize that I'm not the only
one who unabashedly watches the reruns, tracks the trivia and eagerly awaits
the day when Ponch and Jon ride again!
In the (unlikely?) event that he is indeed reading this, I would like to
express thanks to Erik for bringing light to a dark time in my life. (OK, I'm
about to make a fool of myself all over the Internet, but you only live once.)
I was 16 when my dad passed away, and one of the few things from that time I
remember with a smile is watching "CHiPs". Call it teenage infatuation if you
will, but when Erik grinned at me from the screen, for that brief moment all
was right with the world.
Erik, at a time when there was precious little happiness in my life, I always
knew where to find it. It may not mean much to anyone reading this, but you
helped a young lady smile. The (older) lady she has become thanks you, and
still she smiles.
Eagerly awaiting Tuesday night...... --Wren

I was glad to see Rick Rosner there. Now I know what he looks like.
Look for him to make a small appearance in CHiPs '99.

I just got cable today, and Im very glad. I taped the CHiPs marathon hosted by
Erik and Larry. It was so good to see the two of them getting along! They
seemed so happy! I can't wait to see the movie. I hope to tape it without
commercials, and then make a copy in case something happens to the original.
It's going to be great.
Hey, anyone have an FanFiction they'd like to share?

Hi, I just joined the list today. I look forward to seeing CHiPs '99
on Tuesday. I plan on taping it without commercials. It should be a
very good movie. And I'm also happy to see that TNT has somehow gotten
The Greatest Adventures of CHiPs episode.

Hmmm...maybe it's just one of those natural-evolution-of-programs things.
For instance, "Happy Days" got pretty hokey toward the end with some
paranormal and extraterrestrial stuff, if I remember correctly (I always
turn the TV off when I see one of those coming...)

Good point. I agree that the fifth season was the beginning of the
incredulity stretch. I also think that the resistance to that stretch
is what ultimately got most of the major writers replaced and the ones
that we left relegated to the "consultant" areas. I also think that
Larry Wilcox and his staff noted the change in direction of the series
and chose to bail before it was cancelled. I could be wrong on all of
this, but I've been putting tidbits together and this is what I've come
up with.
My favorite shows are within the first three seasons.

As I remember, it blinded people and didn't exactly stun them in the Star
Trek sense. They stopped moving or chasing them since they couldn't see.

Exactly. While the 6th season did have a few good moments, episodes like
"The Day of the Robot" and "The Spaceman Made Me Do It" were very poor.
Robots? UFO's? What were they thinking?!
While Tom Reilly and Bruce Nelson are certainly not the best actors in
the world, I think they weren't exactly written well either. It'll be
interesting to see how Bruce does in CHiPs '99.

"If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you."
I don't remember the name either, Ed. However, this is one of those
episodes that turned me on the sixth season. The switch from the
original writers was one that was particularly noticeable here. They
went from dealing with pertinent and real life police issues to science
fiction. As far as I know, the CHP never had a robot. Even today, that
technology is still in its infancy. True artificial intelligence is
still futuristic. For the writers to have included that in their story
line for a true-to-life police show was irresponsible.
As far as I have always been told, CHiPs was launched as a vehicle to
depict situations that a CHP officer would normally encounter and to
portray it in a positive light. For the life of me, I can't see how
MERV fits into that criteria.
I had no problem with the stories that would center on the off-duty
lives of the officers since that is a natural offshoot and is a part of
the depiction. I do have a problem when the offshoot is totally
implausible.
Okay, I'm off my soapbox.
Write on,
Marcia
PS: On a side note, some of the flak that Estrada has taken over the
years was for his failing to "hold up" the sixth season. In my opinion,
Lawrence Olivier couldn't have held up those scripts. The real villains
of the sixth season were the writers.

Yeah, he finally admitted that he only lied to help Bonnie. He didn't
want her to be hurt.
That's a really good episode. As a writer, I would have gone for more
interaction there, but it was good.

If I remember the episode correctly, Bonnie didn't see a truck. It was
an exhaustion induced hallucination.

(I wasn't asked, but what the hell.)

Subject: [chips] Dynamite Alley
From: Ed Van Cise <vancise@...>
Patrick -
I'll ask you what I asked this morning because I'm sure you know (and to
start a thread perhaps). What happens in the second half hour of
Dynamite
Alley? Did Bonnie see a truck or not? I had to leave before I could see
it all.
Also, to add to the constant King Dons/Ding Dongs debate, Cheryl
Williams
and I are going to be doing some exact scientific investigations during
the Nov. 1 (8 pm) showing of CHiPs-99 and will tell you whether they are
indeed the same, or which is better.
For those who don't know, in Michigan (all Midwest), we don't get Ding
Dongs but rather King Dons. I know that Ding Dongs are in the South and
West, and there has been debate that they are the same. Concensous
(sp?)
says they are, but we will soon have documented proof (well, opinions
anyway).
Thoughts?

Is on right now. I've never seen it before. I've got to run to class,
which sucks, but Bonny just took a dive off Canyon Road, doesn't look good.
Anyone seen it before?

I changed it so reply-to is the sender. That way you can reply to either,
instead of just the list.
