Breaking News
John Driscoll
John Driscoll (ex-Coop, GL)
— JPI
Driscoll On Y&R
After weeks of rumors and "no comment" from YOUNG AND RESTLESS, the CBS soap
confirms that John Driscoll (ex-Coop, GUIDING LIGHT) has been cast in the role
of Phillip Chancellor IV. His first airdate is July 16 when the character
returns to Genoa City.
ATWT Casting News!
Don't look for Judi Evans (ex-Adrienne/Bonnie, DAYS; ex-Paulina, AW; ex-Beth,
GL) to join Wally Kurth at DAYS. Soap Opera Digest got the exclusive with Evans,
who is joining the cast of AS THE WORLD TURNS on August 26. "I need to get back
to New York; I have a 20 by 20 storage unit full of furniture that I have to
clean out," Evans laughs. "I was going to go this summer anyway, so it was very
out of the blue and it was certainly welcome. I'm looking forward to working
with Chris Goutman [executive producer, who she worked with on AW] again and I
can't wait to see Julie Pinson [Janet; ex-Billie, DAYS]. I miss her!" Details of
her character, Maeve, and who she'll interact with are being kept under wraps
for now.
More DAYS Casting
Look for David Leisure, last seen as Y&R's Roger, to join the cast of DAYS as
the new district attorney. "He'll have a few cases on his plate," says Executive
Producer Ken Corday.
Herring In Oakdale
Lynn Herring (ex-Lucy, GH/PC) gabbed with Digest and Weekly about her new role
as ATWT's Audrey, Henry's mom. "The beauty of it is, Henry is such a unique
character," she smiles. "Kin Shriner [ex-Scott, GH/PC; ex-Keith, ATWT et al] had
known him when he had done the show and said Trent [Dawson, Henry] was so much
fun. [Audrey] comes off sympathetic, then she kind of comes off dastardly, so
the juxtaposition is awesome to play." For the full interviews, check out both
magazines.
GL's Ed Is Back!
Peter Simon (Ed) returns to GL next week when Phillip goes to the doc for a
consultation. "The backstory is that Phillip got sick while he was away and he
went and got treatment," explains Grant Aleksander about his alter ego's
surprise visit. "He had some sort of infection, so the doctor gave him some
antibiotics and the symptoms seemed to go away. Now it's returned, and it's
worse than when he got it before." Uh oh...

Hey kids! Mama's away for the day so the spoilers went up a tad bit earlier
courtesy of auto post (love that thing!).
Adam/Rafe: Hellbent on clearing Estella's name, Rafe starts to investigate the
strange occurrences at the Newman ranch. Adam is confronted by the legal eagle
and he is adamant on searching his bedroom. In order to cover his tracks, Adam
decides to play both sides of the fence by coming onto him and declaring his
feelings. This latest stunt works on Rafe for the time being. After Rafe leaves
the ranch he, calls Adam and also confesses to having feeling for him as well
which leaves the schemer rocked to the core.
Still blown away by Rafe's admission, Adam invites Heather to the ranch where
she notices he's acting a bit unnerved. Adam brushes off her concern and the duo
end up making love. Later Heather informs Ashley of her quest to bring Estella
to justice. Heather is still clueless about Adam's real persona and she also
built a rapport with Ashley since she has been a champion of the relationship
she has with Adam. Things start to get hard for Adam to outsmart his family,
Heather and Rafe which makes some things will start to unravel.
Billy/Mac: At the GCAC, the high school sweethearts start to get passionate when
Chloe swings by and announces Sharon is getting a DNA test done on her baby. Mac
is blown away by this revelation and bolts from the suite. Mac returns to
retrieve an item she left and ends up bumping into Chloe. Chloe and Mac talk
about Billy where the fashionista informs her she loves Billy with all his flaws
all while Mac loves Billy for what she can change him into. Mac doesn't want to
change Billy, she knows he's a great person and wants to show that. Billy visits
with Mac to inform her he's giving up on trying to rekindle their relationship
which stuns her. While Billy is letting Mac go, Murphy yells for them to help
Kay where she's rushed to the hospital. During Kay's ordeal, Mac starts to see
the real Billy she fell in love with when he shows genuine concern for her
grandmother's ordeal and is concentrating on her.
When Mac finds out Katherine will be ok, she seeks out Billy and finds him in
the hospital chapel where he is praying to God. Billy prays for Mac to have a
wonderful life without him. Mac becomes moved by his prayer and starts to tear
up. Billy's revelation drives Mac to confess her real feelings for him, where
she reveals herself to him. Mac lets Billy know everyone has flaws and wants to
rekindle their romance and cements it with a kiss..... The duo realize they have
to keep their relationship under wraps for now until they get everything worked
out in their lives.
Mary Jane: For those under a rock, it will be revealed who she is.
Jack/Sharon: Smilin' Jack finds out the real paternity of Sharon's baby.
Paul/Nikki: The couple will soon face a major hurdle with their wedding.
Lily: She assumes that she's with child.
Phillip III/Langley: The Lazarus man comes home and must deal with the fallout
from his family. Word is the scenes are riveting.
Adam/Ashley: Still on the war path, Adam continues tormenting Ashley and her
mental stability starts to crack. Meanwhile when things start to catch up to
him, will he drive his plan even harder?

Mama Drama for Sharon
Sharon makes a shocking sacrifice for Phyllis
Last week, Sharon peeked at the CVS test and was thrilled to discover that Nick
is the father of her baby. But while Sharon was waiting to share the happy news
with Nick, he got a frantic phone call from Phyllis that their daughter, Summer,
went into anaphylactic shock and was rushed to the hospital. Oh boy!
Nick meets a terrified Phyllis at the hospital where the doctor delivers a scary
prognosis. "She's in bad shape," grimaces Joshua Morrow, "She's facing brain
damage, so it's very serious. Her reaction to her peanut allergy was so severe
that her body is shutting down. It's not easy being a Newman kid because they
always end up in the hospital fighting for their lives."
Meanwhile, Sharon waits anxiously for Nick. "Finally, she checks her voicemail
and Nick has left a message," explains Sharon Case. "She listens to it and finds
out that he's at the hospital with Summer."
As Nick prays by her bedside, Phyllis lashes out. "She wants Nick to be there
for Summer, but not necessarily be there for Phyllis," notes Morrow. "So it's
tough because you have to cast all feelings aside about everything else and
focus on getting your daughter healthy and well. Phyllis tells Nick that he can
leave, but he insists he's not going anywhere. He wants to be there for Summer
every step of the way. So not matter what Phyllis says, Nick is not leaving."
Michelle Stafford adds, "Phyllis isn't digging Nick right now, but in a way, she
does feel bad because she loves Nick. She does feel his pain as far as possibly
losing another daughter. She knows this is a reminder of what happened before."
Sharon eavesdrops at the door and sees just how much stress Nick and Phyllis are
under. "Sharon then overhears a conversation that Phyllis and Nick are having,"
reveals Cast. "Nick is saying that he really needs to be there for Summer. He
couldn't live with himself if he abandoned Phyllis. After Cassie died, Nick left
Sharon. The worst possible thing you could do is walk away from your life to be
with another woman after your child has died. Nick realizes how horrible what he
did to Sharon was back then. Now, Summer could die and he feels that now isn't
the right time for him to walk away from Phyllis. He doesn't exactly say that,
but he hints it to Phyllis, and Sharon knows exactly what he's talking about."
Phyllis isn't confused about why Nick is hanging around. "She knows it's for
Summer," acknowledges Stafford. "But Phyllis wants her daughter to come out of
this coma and that her chances are better if her father is talking to her.
That's the only thing on Phyllis's mind. It's not like, "Oh, yay! Nick's
around!'"
Sharon goes to the hospital chapel and pleads with God to give her a way to help
Nick through this potential tragedy. Later, she meets with Nick to offer her
support and he asks about the test results. "Sharon decides that n ow isn't the
time for her to tell Nick that he's the father of the baby," explains Cast. "In
fact, she tells him that they can wait to open the results after Summer gets
better. She lies because if she tells him that she looked at the results, he
would make her tell him. So, she decides on this little white lie to keep his
mind and attention off of it so he can focus on what's unfolding with Summer."
However, Sharon goes a little further to help Nick do the right thing. She goes
to Jimmy's bar, where she finds Billy and Jack. "They're both anticipating the
best or worst news," chuckles Peter Bergman. "For Billy, Sharon being pregnant
with his kid is the worst, and for Jack, the best would be if she is pregnant
with his kid."
That's when Sharon blurts out the lie of all lies: Jack is the father of her
baby. "It's one of those things that as the lie is coming out of your mouth,
you're not even sure you're doing the right thing," chuckles Case. "Nick needs
to be with Phyllis and Summer, so right now, this lie is the only thing that
makes the most sense to Sharon."
Of course, Jack couldn't be happier. "He suspects nothing about her lying,"
smiles Bergman. "He's elated. Jack's kind of a new man in terms of family, and
has had a realization that this is what gives life meaning. He suddenly wants
this more than anything in the world! He hasn't done the work with his two kids
and he's eager to fix that. This is his opportunity for redemption."
Billy is relieved by the news. "He's already been down this road with Chloe, and
though he loves his daughter, his whole life has been complicated," says Billy
Miller. "He definitely isn't ready to go through it again!"
Sharon is somewhat buoyed by Jack's enthusiasm. "Jack has been through enough
that he probably has learned from his mistakes and really is a changed person,"
Case explains. "If Jack has been having all these epiphanies, maybe he's ready
to be a great man and father. Sharon also tells Jack that Nick doesn't know that
he isn't the father of the baby yet because Summer is in the hospital."
Uh-oh! Mary Jane is sitting nearby and hears the exchange. Back at the hospital,
Nick is worried because he hasn't heard from Sharon. While Nick makes a call,
Mary Jane swings by and informs Phyllis that Jack is the father of Sharon's bun
in the oven. "Phyllis is a little stunned, but she's not happy or sad," says
Stafford. "Right now, she doesn't care about that so much. It's not even a blip
on her radar. Her priority is Summer."
Phyllis gets pissed when she finds out that Nick is leaving a message for
Sharon. "He says something like, 'I'm sorry, I haven't heard from Sharon in a
couple of hours and I was worried that something happened to the baby,'" says up
Stafford. "Phyllis comes back with, 'This baby is more important than your
daughter in a coma?' Phyllis is just over Nick at this point! So she tells him
that Sharon's baby is not even his."
Nick is stunned by the news and tracks Sharon down. "When he tells her that he
knows, she's thinking, 'Oh crap!'" sighs Case. "She didn't want the lie to get
this far because she wasn't really sure if she was going to stick to that plan.
So it's snowballing and she's got to make a new decision to say it's true and
let this lie keep going or put a stop to it now."
Sharon decides on the former. "Nick is crushed," groans Morrow. "He really
wanted this baby to be his. Considering the situation he's going through with
Summer right now, he's really heartbroken. he thought this was the fulfillment
of Cassie's prophecy."
Sharon tells Nick that his wife and Summer need him. Adds Case, "He asks her if
it's a girl and she tells him it is, but not his girl."
Sharon goes back to her hotel suite and Jack soon arrives. "It just kills her as
she watches him bond with the baby," notes Case. "It makes her confused and
she's feeling weirdly disconnected in her head. Because she feels guilty, she
gets irritated with Jack and just wants to get away from him. She doesn't know
what else to do."
Jack is understanding. "He is willing to be patient and hopes that things will
work out between them," Bergman points out. "It's pretty powerful how caught up
in all of this Jack is."
Later, an emotional Noah swings by to visit his mother. "He's very upset about
Summer," Case explains. "It really looks like she might not make it, so he's
scared about losing another sister. Sharon then tells him that Jack is the
father of her baby. Now she has committed to this lie and there is no going
back. Noah's been disillusioned with his mom and has lost a lot of respect for
her in the last few months. It's not like she can come back the next day and
say, 'Sorry, I was just making that up.' Maybe Nick and Jack could forgive her,
but it's another thing to lie to Noah. it's a big commitment and a big risk."
Despite the huge sacrifice that Sharon has made to keep Nick's family intact,
Phyllis is confronted with a stunning accusation that may still rip the Newmans
apart. Thanks, Mary Jane

> Here are NEW Summer previews, courtesy SNS from Soap Opera Digest (SOD):
"We're trying to mix it up and give different characters turns at being front
and center," says Co-Head Writer Scott Hamner. "We're also turning to a lot of
history. Expect a lot of surprises."
Sharon/Jack/Nick/Phyllis/Billy: "The paternity of Sharon's baby will be
revealed. The revelation of who the father is will launch a huge, new story arc
that will take us way into the fall. It'll involve all of the Newmans and
Abbotts and will be a very big story that will be emotional for all of the
participants. It's not just about the revelation; it goes way beyond that and
redefines everyone involved."
Victor/Adam/Ashley: "Adam is going to be running amok for quite some time. The
danger of Adam is not only does he have Victor in his sights, he also has Jack
in his sights. He is just driven to destroy these two men at any expense and
then he becomes even more of a threat because he's able to fly under the radar.
He's trouble and is going to be messing things up, generating a riptide of
destruction."
Paul/Nikki/Mary Jane: "Mary Jane's identity comes to light. We're seeing just
the tip of the iceberg with her. We'll learn what she's in town to do, and it's
going to be a really huge surprise. I think it's going to be tremendous fun. Her
presence is going to affect Paul as well as everyone else on the canvas. But
Paul is going to be front and center in this story."
Cane/Lily: "They both stand to lose what they value and desire the most. They
have a beautiful romance, but it will be threatened."
Kay/Jill: "There are going to be huge revelations; there are still secrets about
the Chancellor family history that have not yet been discovered. There are going
to be triple whammies in this story."
Kevin/Jana/Daniel/Amber: "They're going to be involved in a mystery that's going
going to be twofold in its revelations. It has an explosive effect on Daniel and
Amber due to the reveal of one secret, but under that revelation is another
twist that's going to impact Kevin and Jana."

father. Marina confirms the truth and says that only Shayne and Dinah know.
Marina explains that she kept it from Mallet to protect him and says that Shayne
told her he doesn't want to be Henry's dad. Marina can't believe how well Mallet
is handling the news but when she leaves, it's clear that Mallet is having a

"Yeah. They told me she was coming back, and I was floored, because last I knew,
she was in New York working. I knew Guiding Light got cancelled. It has been
awhile since I had a major story. I had that short storyline last year with the
material that I submitted for the Emmys, but I have been used recently to just
support other people's storylines. They told me Crystal was coming back, and I
was like, "Oh, that means I am going to be busy!" I had gotten into being a
real-life dad. With acting it has sort of been … I go to the studio … do what
I've got to do, which I love, but I have been being a dad. It's going to be
exciting because Crystal is an astounding actress."

sure I did cry on his shoulder at four in the morning [laughs]!"
—Billy Miller (Billy, Y&R) to Digest on which cast member he leans on during
those emotional moments
Translation: And what happened next … stays in Vegas!
All My Children, A/ABC — Meet the new EP: Mr. Goldin
• Which two co-stars are feuding over something said in a recent interview?
• Who was responsible for convincing Chrishell Stause (Amanda) to re-sign with
AMC for an extended six months? Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake) admits to Soap Digest
that it was all his doing. "I streaked," he jokes about what he had to do to get
his way. "I showed [Chrishell] what everyone was writing about us. I showed her
articles — and I promised to brush my teeth! [Then,] I begged my EP." Hmmm … who
knew Goldin still spoke to Barbara Bloom! Bad Nellie … Anyway, it's nice to see
that someone is doing Julie Hanan Carruther's job — great work, Ricky.
As The World Turns, Global/CBS — Beth Raines moves to Oakdale!
• What budget problems? Despite its terminal ratings, World Turns is throwing
around money like it's going out of style. The CBS sudser added Emmy winner Judi
Evans (ex-Adrienne/Bonnie, DAYS; ex-Paulina, AW; ex-Beth, GL) to its cast as
Maeve. Evans, who was recently selling cemetery headstones, debuts on Aug. 26. I
wonder if this is payback for DAYS stealing Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL;
soon-to-be Carly Branco, DAYS)?
• Was Wall Street desperate? Lynn Herring (Audrey) rang the opening bell at the
New York Stock Exchange this morning. Weird.
• According to daytimeconfidential.com, GL scribe Lucky Gold will join David
Kreizman on the ever-expanding World Turns writing team. Yes, because World
Turns doesn't have enough show killers on its staff. It was nice knowing you
Oakdale! And with exec Chris Goutman head-writing the soap, according to our
sources, why does he need all this "help" anyway?
The Bold and the Beautiful, CTV/CBS — I Hearst Ric
• More intel is coming in regarding Ric Hearst's highly anticipated B&B
comeback. According to those crazy kids at Soap Opera Weekly, Whip begins
working at Jackie M as a designer and he sets his sights on Brooke again. Hearst
confirms he was indeed in talks with GL to reprise his Emmy-winning role
Alan-Michael Spaulding. "This is before they knew the show was cancelled. It
would have been a four-to-six month gig," he says. Hearst has won an Emmy for
all of his soap roles except this one (and his short DAYS stint as Scott, but as
far as I'm concerned that doesn't count), so expect him to win his fourth statue
next year. Hearst hits town on July 17. And I can't wait.
• Next week, Ridge confesses to Brooke that he partied and played with Taylor.
Of course, Brooke is "devastated." I'm kind of dying to see how Katherine Kelly
Lang will choose to act out this scene. If it turns out to be another KKL-killer
performance, she'll more than likely not submit it for Emmy consideration in
2010 because that's how she rolls.
Days of our Lives, Global/NBC — Welcome to Salem, y'all!
• Character actors are all the rage on soaps: David Leisure (ex-Roger, Y&R) has
been cast as Salem's new district attorney. "He'll have a few cases on his
plate," executive producer Ken Corday tells Digest.com.
• Catherine Wadkins (ex-Mary, GH) doesn't mind being typecast as the crazed
widow. The actress will appear on the NBC sudser on Aug. 3 and 4 after her
character's husband, Carlo, turns up dead. She'll share scenes with Jay Kenneth
Johnson (Philip).
• Who needs soaps? Scott and Melissa Reeves (ex-Ryan, Y&R; ex-Jennifer, DAYS,
respectively) will star in their own titular two-hour radio show, The Scott and
Melissa Show, to air on Cool Broadcasting. How cool is that? The news program
will target both country music lovers and soap opera fans.
• Am I being punk'd? That's how I feel when I watch 2009's comeback soap, DAYS.
This week, the riveting show rivalled Y&R in the creative department. No joke.
More in Nelson Ratings Monday.
• Memo to Alison Sweeney (Sami): no one can ever question your acting abilities
ever again. You are an actor — and a fine one at that. Brava! In fact, I would
dare to call Sweeney's recent performances "perfect."
Daytimeconfidential.com, iTunes — Tomlin versus Scott
• Editorial director Jamey Giddens wrote a brilliant op-ed piece on who is
really responsible for DAYS' creative re-birth. Click here to see if you agree.
General Hospital, CTV/ABC — Reunited: Griffith and Guza!
• And the bromance continues: Sunset Beach co-creator Josh Griffith joins forces
with his former partner-in-crime, Bob Guza, to pen scripts for GH on a trial
basis. G&G created Sunset Beach together with the late, great Aaron Spelling.
Most recently, Griffith served as executive producer at Y&R before he was forced
out due to a reported war between Maria Arena Bell and the versatile soap
player. FYI: He's also written for One Life, World Turns, and Santa Barbara.
• If you're bored, you can follow Jason Cook on Twitter by looking up his
character name, Dr. Matt Hunter. Very creative, Jason!
• Michael Logan's favourite GH bad boy, Bruce Weitz, is back as Anthony
Zacchara, according to Soap Opera Network. Reportedly, "Weitz's appearance is
expected to be for just this one episode, but don't be surprised if he pops back
in from time to time as his children's lives continue to fall apart."
• That was fast: Lexi Ainsworth signed a contract with the violent sudser as the
sex-crazed Kristina. At press time, there's no word if she has to sell Monavie
Juice as a part of the deal.
• Digest is on a news roll again this week: that sexy bastard Sebastian Roche
will reprise his role as Jax's bad-ass brother, Jerry, soon ...
• You were right: Next week, it's revealed that Dominic is indeed Sonny and
Olivia's spawn, Dante. Sorry, Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan, GL).
Guiding Light, Global/CBS — Today was Tognoni's last tape date!
• On the heels of daytimeconfidential.com's shocking reveal that Jeffrey O'Neill
will soon die, The Suds Report has exclusively learned that today was Emmy
winner Gina Tognoni's (Dinah) last work day on GL. The former One Life actress
refused to extend her GL contract until the finale on Sept. 18. At the very last
minute, GL had to re-write long-term story to accommodate Tognoni's decision to
quit her popular role. There is no word yet as to why she didn't re-sign with
the cancelled soap. One source speculates that the reason behind Tognoni's
shocking decision could be because she has agreed to a new soap gig. I'll have
more details next week.
• Looks like I need to book a trip to New York! Here's another sign that GL is
deader than Ellen Wheeler's career: On Aug. 19, the Paley Center for Media will
be hosting an event to say goodbye to broadcasting's longest-running program.
Scheduled to appear are Wheeler, head writer Jill Lorie Hurst, Kim Zimmer
(Reva), Robert Newman (Josh) and Grant Aleksander (Phillip). More stars will be
added soon.
• Step away from the machine guns, Otalia fans: Daytimeconfidential.com's GL
expert Melodie Aikels recently revealed that Natalia will learn she's preggers
with Frank's baby! The plot twist will pave the way for Jessica Leccia's
(Natalia) mat leave. Poor Olivia — she should have used that sex toy on Natalia
much earlier!
• The New York Daily News' Carolyn Hinsey has a revealing interview with Crystal
Chappell (Olivia) tomorrow. Don't miss it. Meanwhile, Daytimeconfidential.com is
reporting that GL actors are free to pursue other lines of employment after Aug.
14.
• In Monday's Nelson Ratings, former Soap Opera Weekly founder Mimi Torchin will
weigh in on the increasingly frustrating Otalia super-romance. Torchin sounds
off on these two burning questions: When will they kiss again? And why haven't
they made love yet?
• Soap Opera Weekly is going to give welovesoaps.com's Roger Newcomb a heart
attack. For the second week in a row, SPW featured Grant Aleksander (Phillip) on
its cover. In the cover story, the magazine reveals that Phillip learns he has
three months to live! Hmmm ... I'm guessing his expiry date is somewhere around
the vicinity of Sept. 18!
Imaginary Bitches, imaginarybitches.com — IB movie on course!
• Our favourite imaginary American Andrew Miller tells the Suds Report that it's
smooth sailing on the Imaginary Bitches movie front. Miller says, "I'm deep into
the second draft of the movie and developing two other TV shows. And yesterday I
made a 10-second clip for the Emmy ceremony." Miller and his talented cast are
nominated for outstanding new media approaches. The award will be handed out at
the Creative Emmy Awards on Aug. 29 in L.A. — and word is the IB gang will take
home the gold.
One Life To Live, A/ABC — Starr and Cole to wed!
• Pay attention Ellen Wheeler: One Life is dark next week because, once again,
executive producer Frank Valentini is ahead of schedule in production. Good
work, Frances.
• They haven't even kissed yet but Kish already has an interloper: The coveted
gay role that World Turns' Agim Kaba (ex-Aaron) and Nicholas Galbraith (ex-Zac)
were up for has been given to Broadway actor Nicholas Rodriguez (Tarzan).
• Maybe One Life's casting department is smartening up: Soap Opera Digest is
reporting that the oh-so-handsome Michael Lowry (ex-Jake, AMC) joins One Life as
Ross on a recurring basis in the role Shawn Christian (Daniel, DAYS) originated.
• Todd's worst nightmare is a reality: Next week, Starr and Cole plan their
wedding. Yikes.
The Young and the Restless, Global/CBS — MTS: out or in?
• So not to confuse viewers with his father, Phillip Chancellor III, John
Driscoll's Phillip Chancellor IV will be called "Chance."
• In this week's issue, Soap Opera Weekly is reporting exactly what The Suds
Report revealed a few weeks back — Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) has hit an
impasse with the CBS sudser during her contract negotiations. Her character has
already been written out, but should MTS and Y&R reach an agreement, Nikki can
easily be written back in. However, according to TV Guide Magazine's Michael
Logan's sources, MTS is still working "on her own terms." Several Y&R insiders
inform The Suds Report that that intel is "not true. MTS isn't dictating
anything at this point — and her character will be written out even if it's just
for a few weeks."
• Last week, Suds speculated that Mac may be recast, but I've since learned that
it's another major role. Please don't recast Vail Bloom (Heather) — I finally
like the bitch!
• So how did Michael Muhney do as nuAdam on his first episode as the
most-talked-about recast in Y&R history? Perfect. The oh-so-impressive Muhney
was right on the, um, money — and it's clear we're dealing with a real actor
here. And he looks much younger than his photos — which is a good thing. Check
out Monday's Nelson Ratings for a more intensive review.
• All that drama for nothing? Next week, Sharon finds out that Nick is the
father of her unborn baby, but she "selflessly" lies to him so he can be with
Phyllis and a hospitalized Summer. How nice.
• The Suds Report will be tweeting live during Y&R's Canadian episode each day!
Well, if we're not on a date with Chris Engen (ex-Adam), that is.

SOAP OPERA DIGEST INSIDER
June 25, 2009
Greetings From The Editor
Lynn Leahey
Dear Readers,
Talk about good timing. Just as Crystal Chappell was wrapping up her role
on GL, which will go off the air in the fall, DAYS was looking to goose
the Bo/Hope storyline. So now, before she's even left Springfield,
Chappell has already signed on for a new job. Happy as she is to be
returning to Salem, however, Chappell admits in the new issue of Digest
that the "Otalia" tale "Has been by far, my favorite storyline," and she's
heartsick about GL's cancellation. She'll be there til the end, so stay
tuned.... It's not as shocking as injecting Botox in his eyes to fake
blindness, but Y&R's Adam pulls another manipulative move when Rafe
demands to search his bedroom next week -- so Adam seduces him. Get the
story in Late-breaking News!
TALES FROM THE INTERVIEW
Mara Levinsky: I couldn't have been more excited to sit down with Ricky
Paull Goldin and Chrishell Stause (Jake and Amanda) for the joint
interview you'll find in this week's Digest. Goldin, of course, is a
seasoned daytime vet, and has had successful pairings on AW and GL. But
Stause's AMC romances never seemed to go anywhere -- that is, until Goldin
came along and Jake and Amanda quietly caught fire. In real life, they're
almost as cute as their on-screen alters -- teasing, joking, finishing
each other's sentences, anticipating each other's thoughts. (Really: When
I asked Chrishell a "Roundup" question while Ricky was in the restroom, he
came back and guessed what she had said. It was a question about celebrity
crushes, and Chrishell was truly baffled: "But I've never even told you I
like him!" she marveled about the hottie in question. "Doesn't matter. I
know you," he replied.) But their connection doesn't stop at cute: they
are truly supportive colleagues who care deeply about their work -- and it
shows. I think you'll enjoy your glimpse into their dynamic partnership.
Lauren Flynn: Although he was mostly a background player up until now, ONE
LIFE TO LIVE's Sean Ringgold has managed to make himself a real presence
in Llanview as bodyguard Shaun. Sure, you can't not notice the
6-foot-3-inch actor, but he has a warm on-screen presence that's made him
gel with actresses Robin Strasser (Dorian), Pamela Payton-Wright (Addie),
Tika Sumpter (Layla), Shenell Edmonds (Destiny) and more recently Daphnee
Duplaix (Rachel). The producers of OLTL clearly picked up on this and gave
him a realistic story as Shaun counsels little sis Destiny while crushing
on platonic pal Rachel. In this issue's Focus On... we interview Ringgold,
a real-life bodyguard who kind of fell into acting and couldn't be
happier.
CAMPAIGN TRAIL
You gotta love soap fans' creativity -- Digest regularly receives doodads
and goodies from readers who know how to make a statement.
Vera Hadzi-Antich: OLTL's Natalie is the star of this week's Campaign
Trail love triangle. The first campaign is left over from last week, which
places her with Jared. Fans ask for, "A new storyline ... they are the
best couple on OLTL and have been back-burned for far too long." Natalie
and John fans totally disagree and sent in a great picture of the daytime
couple's portrayers Melissa Archer and Michael Easton to show us how great
they look together!
GH's Natalia Livingston (Rebecca) has very supportive fans who write,
"Porcelain Doll? NO ... Strong Woman!" They also want GH to make something
happen between Rebecca and Maurice Benard's character, Sonny. Other GH
fans sent in a postcard with "four dynamic couples to keep GH afloat."
They are: Elizabeth and Jason, Carly and Jax, Kate and Sonny, and Robin
and Patrick.
DAYS's Ejami fans unite! They sent in postcards from all over the country,
which read, "Loving is like breathing. You can never ask us to stop!"
Finally, Nuke fans teach us about "Nuke Romance 101." They tell us how
ATWT will get 100% -- with plenty of "kissing, cuddling, hugging, touching
and teasing." Overall, they want "more affection!"
Thanks for the campaigns!

TYPE SET
Soap fans are a vocal bunch -- see what fellow viewers are saying about
their shows.
I loved seeing Zach and Kendall outdoors with Spike and Ian. It was a
fantastic scene that showed great family bonding. I loved seeing them out
laughing and having fun. Seriously, when was the last time that they got
to laugh or enjoy anything good? Scenes like these between Zach and
Kendall are also great as the two seem to be falling in love with each
other all over again. This couple and their kids have had far too many
obstacles piled on them, and today's show was a welcomed change. I love
the focus on family and hope that it's one trend that AMC intends to
continue. P.T., via the internet
IN PERSON
I ran into Bradford Anderson [Spinelli, GH] in Nashville at the CMA
Festival. I had been hoping for a chance to get his autograph, but was out
of luck until my mom and I saw him walking by! I told him that my
mother-in-law and I are huge fans of his. He was so gracious and stopped
to take a picture with me. All my friends are so jealous! Sarah, via the
Internet
This past weekend I ran into Chrishell Stause [Amanda, AMC] at the New
Kids On The Block concert in Holmdel, NJ. We chatted for a few minutes
before the show, and I thought that was it. To my surprise, when I got to
my seat, I looked behind me and there Chrishell was 2 rows behind me! I
apologized for bothering her, but asked if I could have my picture taken
with her. She happily obliged! Turns out she's a huge fan of New Kids On
The Block like me! She is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Jennifer

Q. Was that DAYS's Melanie on TRUE BLOOD this past Sunday? I think she was
the Christian singer! B.G., via the Internet
A. You are right! Melanie's portrayer, Molly Burnett was on TRUE BLOOD as
Amanda Jane, who sang the song "Jesus Asked Me Out Today." Molly's
performance caused such a stir that you can now purchase the song on
iTunes and a blogger from the New York Post tracked her down for an

Rafe's past, who first airs on July 17.
--Gil Rogers returns to GL as Hawk, Reva's father, on July 3.
THE TOP 10 PLUS
1. GUIDING LIGHT's Matt is having more luck in his efforts to "go green"
than getting Natalia and Olivia to "go back" to men.
2. After all these years and 12 marriages (most of them valid), ALL MY
CHILDREN's Adam Chandler should be able to see through Annie's
manipulations.
3. Perhaps AS THE WORLD TURNS' Dusty should slip Meg a DVD of The Omen to
help her see the light regarding Damian.
4. Since GL's police chief Frank is taking shifts at Company, does anyone
not bus tables there?
5. If AMC's Zach is willing to forgive a casino player's losses, he really
is out to clear Kendall's name by any means necessary!
6. So much for the third time being a charm: BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL's Nick was
more obsessed with Owen showing up at his and Bridget's wedding than the
wedding itself.
7. ATWT's Larry just happens to love the same opera that Hunter's mother
loved. Do we even need to see the second act to guess this ending?
8. It was pure karma for YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Adam when he learned that he
really would be going blind, thanks to the injections he gave himself.
Oops.
9. GL's Cyrus and Remy diving into a sewage tank to retrieve diamonds was
almost as gratuitous as the scene of them shirtless and hosing off
afterwards!
10. Ha ha, Dorian. There's one man in ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Llanview your
charm won't work with -- Ernesto Rivera!
WHY WE CLAPPED
ALL MY CHILDREN's Chrishell Stause made Amanda inseparable from a real
person as the new mother struggled with being separated from her newborn
son. Stause was controlled and subtle as Amanda weighed doing what was
best for her son against doing what felt best for her heart. Stause's
gentle sobbing allowed Amanda's true emotions to surface without
distracting the audience with histrionics. We cannot bear to separate
Stause from Applause, Applause kudos for Issue 27.

NIGHTWATCH
--From Senior Writer/Editor Joe Diliberto: The Emmy nominations will be
announced on July 16, so with ballots due today, I would like to remind
last-second voters not to overlook FX's RESCUE ME to find a couple of
outstanding performers. Series creator and star Denis Leary ought to be a
lock for the lead actor category, and Michael J. Fox's recurring turn as
paraplegic Dwight should secure him not only a supporting actor
nomination, but perhaps a win. (I still think FRINGE's John Noble should
be in the mix.) Both Leary and Fox have created characters that are
entertaining to watch because they are so profoundly flawed. In fact, one
could make the case that both Tommy and Dwight are 95 percent flaws. Okay,
so maybe Tommy is closer to 99 percent. But the point is, Leary and Fox
are not only good enough actors to carry off the dramatic scenes and
speeches their characters need, the actors also lend a subtext of humanity
that makes it impossible to (completely) hate them. Let's hope Emmy voters
show some love.
THE WE IN WEEKLY
--From Editor Michael Karol: ALL MY CHILDREN's David must be even crazier
than I thought. The one child he has left, Marissa -- well, he believes
his baby with Amanda is dead -- is trying to build a relationship with
him, and he not only refuses, but insults her, calling her attempt to bond
with him "pathetic." When Marissa continues to try to forge a relationship
despite his non-concern, he dismisses her as his "long-lost daughter" that
he "doesn't even know." Dave, ever hear the expression, "Don't look a gift
horse in the mouth"? People in Pine Valley aren't exactly beating down the
doors to Wildwind to be your best friend.
--From News Editor Mala Bhattacharjee: I keep bouncing back and forth
between thinking YOUNG AND RESTLESS is awesome and thinking it's
completely off its rocker. Either way, I can't stop watching! Sure, Mary
Jane and her dead, stuffed cat give me the heebie-jeebies, but the
Cane/Phillip III storyline is absolutely must-see, and I am transfixed by
just how far Adam is willing to go to cover his tracks. This week, when it
appeared that he had damaged his eyes for real because of his Botox
injections, it was a sweet, sweet moment of irony. Not to mention that
actually going blind is a very Greek tragedy way to pay for your sins.
Plus, as someone who watched VERONICA MARS, I'm really enthused to see
what recast Michael Muhney brings to the role. Will his Adam be
increasingly evil? More sympathetic? I can't wait to find out!
--From Copy Editor Marc Wilkofsky: Phillip and Rick's basketball game on
Wednesday's GUIDING LIGHT episode was a ton of fun, and strengthened the
guys' decades-long friendship while giving viewers a distraction from all
the drama. GL has admirably been squeezing in light scenes between
friends, such as the stressed Josh and seemingly carefree Matt on June 19,
and showing that there's more to Springfield's relationship buffet than
romance and enmity. Establishing new connections is the soap's forte,
which it proved when the selfless Matt tried to ease Natalia's troubled
mind at the store. It was also a kick to see Natalia and Olivia discuss
Matt's looks. Now, Matt just needs to find a steady love interest and
improve her life -- while finally living his again. But for now, I feel
the focus on friendships is just fine.
--From Managing Editor Gabrielle Winkel: I'm thoroughly enjoying the
outdoor scenes on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Yup, we noticed, guys. Let's face it,
a real park works much better as a park than anything that could be built
on West 66th Street. All those beautiful OLTL actors look even better
placed in that lush greenery (one good thing about New York's rainy June).
Natural light is a wonderful change from studio lighting; not that the
Emmy-winning lighting guys don't do a fabulous job. So keep doing what
you're doing, OLTL.

More great spoilers and much more!
DISCLAIMER: We do not edit these scoops, news and spoilers because there is
just no time. I am always looking for someone else to do these newsletters. I do
them for 7 soaps every Sunday night or Monday morning, so I do them as quickly
as possible! If you don't like the format or think there is too much repetition
- I'm sorry, but that's too bad. You can feel free to unsubscribe! Or volunteer
to gather them for us and you can edit all you'd like!!
