Herring In Oakdale
Lynn Herring (ex-Lucy, GH/PC) gabbed with Digest and Weekly about her new role as ATWT's Audrey, Henry's mom. "The beauty of it is, Henry is such a unique character," she smiles. "Kin Shriner [ex-Scott, GH/PC; ex-Keith, ATWT et al] had known him when he had done the show and said Trent [Dawson, Henry] was so much fun. [Audrey] comes off sympathetic, then she kind of comes off dastardly, so the juxtaposition is awesome to play." For the full interviews, check out both magazines.
GL's Ed Is Back!
Peter Simon (Ed) returns to GL next week when Phillip goes to the doc for a consultation. "The backstory is that Phillip got sick while he was away and he went and got treatment," explains Grant Aleksander about his alter ego's surprise visit. "He had some sort of infection, so the doctor gave him some antibiotics and the symptoms seemed to go away. Now it's returned, and it's worse than when he got it before." Uh oh...
Rick On Return
Rick Hearst talks to Digest about leaving the role of GH's Ric and returning as B&B's Whip on July 17. "When B&B called, it was for a contract role, so I had to decide if this was something I wanted to do that wouldn't leave GH in a lurch," he says. "If this had not worked out with B&B, I would've continued to be on recurring with GH, but still invest in other opportunities." For the full story, check out the new Digest.
Great Expectations
Happy news for real-life couple Kyle Lowder (Rick, B&B) and Arianne Zucker (Nicole, DAYS): The duo, who married in August, 2002, are expecting their first child in December. "Yay!" exclaims Zucker. "Her pregnancy will not be written into the storyline," confirms Executive Producer Ken Corday.
It's A Girl!
AS THE WORLD TURNS' Maura West and Scott DeFreitas (Carly and ex-Andy) have welcomed a baby girl, who joins her four older siblings, Benjamin, 13, Joseph, 9, Katherine, 7, and Basil, 2. And soap fans can thank West's soap pals, not the stork, for breaking the news! Martha Byrne (Andrea, GH; ex-Lily, ATWT) beamed on Facebook, "Congrats Maura and Scott on their baby girl!!" while Cady McClain (Rosanna) Twittered the good tidings: "Maura had her baby!!! A beautiful little girl."
The couple named the baby Birdie West DeFreitas. She weighed in at 7 lbs 13 oz and is 20 inches long. "Mom and baby are doing great," reports a spokesperson.
Fairchild Back On Soaps
Morgan Fairchild (ex-Sydney, THE CITY; ex-Jennifer SEARCH FOR TOMORROW) briefly returns to daytime to play Beverly Hills socialite, Dottie, who is friends with Stephanie (Susan Flannery) on BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL. In scenes that will air on August 10-14, Dottie will help instigate a fashion show competition between Forrester Creations and Jackie M.
Warlock Goes To Church
Billy Warlock (ex-Frankie, DAYS; ex-A.J., GH; ex-Ben, Y&R) stars in Ivan Hurzeler's short film in the Netflix Find Your Voice Competition (www.netflixfindyourvoice.com). Out of thousands of submissions, Ivan Hurzeler's feature film project, Church, was chosen as one of ten semi-finalists. The five projects with the most votes will continue on in the competition that will award one filmmaker a $350,000 production package to make their feature film.
Ivan and his screenwriter, Cami Delavigne, decided to make the short starring Warlock to show their ability at telling stories on film. That short, Hatchet Man, shares its themes with Church, the feature. Cami, who co-wrote the upcoming Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, found inspiration for the 3 minute Hatchet Man in real life: an employee at a big New York ad agency secretly filmed a cheating couple. The X-rated video made it onto the Internet, causing a massive scandal.
Billy Warlock plays the aggressive boss in Hatchet Man. He sends Ted to fire the mant responsible for the shocking video. Unfortunately, Ted finds himself in a scary mess with boss Billy Warlock breathing down his neck. Who shot the video? Who's gonna get fired? Billy delivers the verdict — with unexpected results.
To see and vote for Warlock's project, go to www.netflixfindyourvoice.com.
Chappell Back On DAYS
TVGuideMagazine.com reports that Crystal Chappell is returning to DAYS OF OUR LIVES this fall. She'll bring back the character she created 19 years ago — Dr. Carly Manning Alamain (Katerina von Leuschner). Chappell played the role from June 1990 to October 1993. Chappell met Michael Sabatino on the NBC soap when he played villain Lawrence Alamain. The two married in Jan. 1997. They have two sons Jacob, 9, and Dylan 5 1/2.
However, insiders add that the job-hunting Chappell had put out some feelers to YOUNG AND RESTLESS as her former boss Paul Rauch is currently the head honcho at the No. 1 soap.
Chappell has played on GUIDING LIGHT since 1999 and is currently involved in the very popular Otalia storyline. Chappell will begin taping in September (when GL is finishing taping) and start airing in October. Chappell's other soap roles include Maggie on ONE LIFE TO LIVE from Oct. 1995 through September 1997 and a brief, but notable, appearance on SANTA BARBARA as Jane in 1990.
Chappell has won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2002. She's been nominated four additional times, which includes this year in the Outstanding Lead Actress category
For full interview with Chappell, www.TVGuideMagazine.

Spoilers/Rumors for Upcoming Shows
Please Note that anything marked as "RUMOR" is unconfirmed and may not occur
ball Bridget and Nick get married on June 24 and 25. In addition to the many Logans and Forresters in residence who attend, Bridget's grandparents Stephen and Beth return for the nuptials.
ball Looking for work and a little humbled. Whip Jones returns to L.A., having suffered at the hands of the economy. After having worked at several Eurpopean fashion houses since leaving Forrester International, Whip comes home. But rather than go crawling to Forrester, he goes to Jackie M and is hired by Stephanie. La Forrester wants him to take Brooke's mind off of Ridge, and his first episode paired with Brooke ends in a kiss.
ball As reported in B&B News, Rick Hearst returns to B&B as Whip in July. What brings Whip back to Los Angeles? It's not so much what as who. Stephanie orchestrates his return, presumably to oversee the PR campaign for Jackie M — though Jackie (wisely) suspects that a secret agenda is at play.
ball In an interview with TV Guide magazine, Don Diamont describes his character of Bill Spencer Jr. as a Richard Branson-style media mogul who becomes co-CEO of his late father's publishing empire. Spencer Publications publishes EYE ON FASHION, the rag trade magazine that appears frequently on the show. Diamont also hinted that his character might initially be playing against Donna.
ball In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Executive Producer/Head Writer Bradley Bill dropped some hints about B&B:
o The tension between the Forresters and the Logans continues at Forrester. It may look like the Logans are on top, but don't count the Forresters out just yet.
o The show will continue its return to being about two warring fashion houses with the re-emergence of Jackie M. While Bell still has no plans to kill off Sally Spectra (whose portrayer, Darlene Conley, died in 2007), Jackie will be picking up where Sally left off, albeit in a more sophisticated manner befitting actress Lesley-Anne Down.
o Rick, Bridget, Steffy and Thomas will be on the forefront as the next generation of characters.
o Brooke, Donna and Katie will all be driving story.
o With Jackie M back in the mix, look for more interaction between Stephanie and Jackie.

Y&R -- CANE'S DESPERATE PLOY -- Cane uses a vial of blood from Philip/Langley after Nina forces Cane to take another DNA test. Billy and Mac grow closer. After Ashley receives the package containing the baby's head from Sabrina's statue in the Newman garden, Victor and Ashley leap to the conclusion that Estella IS guilty of gaslighting Ashley.
YOUNG AND RESTLESS
MONDAY, JUNE 22, 2009
Nikki, Ashley and Victor are astonished when Ashley receives a package which contains the head of the baby from Sabrina's statue in the Newman Ranch gardens. After discovering the baby's head in the package, Victor calls the police, determined to discover WHO is responsible for tormenting Ashley. Later, Victor corners Adam in Adam's room to check to see if Adam is still wearing his ankle monitor. Meanwhile, Nikki explains to Ashley that NIKKI is convinced that Adam IS the guilty party. Victor asks Gil to compare fingerprints on the box with Adam, Estella and Rafe's fingerprints. Later, when Estella's prints are found on the box, it turns into all out war at the Ranch with everyone accusing everyone else. Detective Gil takes Estella into custody. Rafe later tells Adam that Rafe can NOT represent Adam any longer - because Rafe plans to devote all of his time and attention to help clear his aunt's name. Rafe promises that whoever set up Estella to take the fall will pay dearly. Cane makes another desperate call to Langley after learning from Mac that Phillip III's exhumation has begun. Meanwhile, at the coroner's office, Nina falls into Paul's arms and demands to know what has happened to her husband's remains. Paul calls Katherine and Kay reports that she and Jill are stunned by the news that Phillip's casket was empty. Back at Jimmy's Bar, Cane ponders whether or not his time has run out -- and wonders if he needs to run from Genoa City. Cane's plans are interrupted when Lily arrives, looking for him. At the Chancellor estate, Paul informs Nina, Jill and Kay that he had a test run on the casket and it proved that there was NEVER a body in the casket in the first place. This means that Phillip III COULD still be Jill's son after all. Nina demands that Cane take another D.N.A. test to prove Cane's true identity. Kay asks Paul to keep this investigation confidential. Meanwhile, Jill explains to Cane what happened with Phillip's body and asks Cane to take another DNA test. At the bar, Cane agrees to take the test and Lily assures Cane that - no matter what the results are - Lily will STILL love Cane. Later, when he is alone at the bar, Cane opens a freezer and pulls out vials of blood labeled Langely. There are already TWO vials missing. Cane calls "Langley" and tells Langley that Cane is doing what he has to do - and then he can quit running. When they have a chance to be alone together on the patio at Crimson Lights, Billy and Mac remember the night of their wedding - and just for a moment pretend that nothing else matters. As Billy and Mac take a trip down memory lane and talk about their high school romance, Billy and Mac begin to dance together. Later, as the chemistry between them builds and it seems like they won't be able to deny it anymore, both pull away and break their connection.

Sharon/Jack/Nick/Phyllis/Billy: "The paternity of Sharon's baby will be revealed. The revelation of who the father is will launch a huge, new story art that will take us way into the fall. It'll involve all of the Newmans and Abbotts and will be a very big story that will be emotional for all of the participants. It's not just about the revelation; it goes way beyond that and redefines everyone involved."
Victor/Adam/Ashley: "Adam is going to be running amok for quite some time. The danger of Adam is not only does he have Victor in his sights, he also has Jack in his sights. He is just driven to destroy these two men at any expense and then he becomes even more of a threat because he's able to fly under the radar. He's trouble and is going to be messing things up, generating a riptide of destruction."
Paul/Nikki/Mary Jane: "Mary Jane's identity comes to light. We're seeing just the tip of the iceberg with her. We'll learn what she's in town to do, and it's going to be a really huge surprise. I think it's going to be tremendous fun. Her presence is going to affect Paul as well as everyone else on the canvas. But Paul is going to be front and center in this story."
Cane/Lily: "They both stand to lose what they value and desire the most. They have a beautiful romance, but it will be threatened."
Kay/Jill: "There are going to be huge revelations; there are still secrets about the Chancellor family history that have not yet been discovered. There are going to be triple whammies in this story."
Kevin/Jana/Daniel/Amber: "They're going to be involved in a mystery that's going going to be twofold in its revelations. It has an explosive effect on Daniel and Amber due to the reveal of one secret, but under that revelation is another twist that's going to impact Kevin and Jana."

A veritable onslaught of excitement is in store for the good people of Oakdale on "As The World Turns" next week -- including the return of Daniel Hugh Kelly as Noah's cah-razy father. Can't bear to wait through Father's Day weekend to find out what happens? We have all the sneaks that are fit to peek ... Read on!
We have our suspicions about this mysterious fella Riley, and we won't have to wait too long to get the goods on him. In fact, his true identity is revealed by none other than Colonel Mayer. Seems Noah's dear ol' dad wasn't really killed last year whilst trying to escape the cops -- and his return is sure to stir up heaps of trouble for our beloved "Nuke."
Meanwhile, Margo -- who's latched onto Riley as the last, tenuous connection to her deceased son Adam -- finds herself in mortal danger. Hmm ... could this have anything to do with Col. Mayer's return?
Did we call the whole "Meg & Damian" thing, or what? (We totes did.) Now that it looks like Damian is sticking around Oakdale for the duration, he can pursue Meg with his usual Italian aplomb -- and, quite possibly, ulterior motives. Lily tries to smooth things over next week by offering Damian some timely advice. Will he take it? And does he really have a shot with Meg?
All this, PLUS: Henry continues his charade as the wackiest cross-dressing TV host since Mrs. Doubtfire. It doesn't look like the lovely Geneva Swift's stint as co-host of "Oakdale Now" is coming to a close anytime soon -- especially when Henry has a hard time warding off a few of Geneva's older suitors at the WOAK Studios.
What are you looking forward to most next week?

Exclusive Interview With Patrick Duffy
« Thread Started on Jun 18, 2009, 7:33pm » [Quote]
As previously posted on Soaps.com, Patrick Duffy (Stephen, B&B) has been filming short videos entitled, “Patrick Duffy & The Crab.” So far there are three in the series in which the iconic actor talks to his good friend Sheldon (who just so happens to be a crab) about eating a dime, Facebook and having a threesome with Courteney Cox.
These absurdly funny videos will leave you scratching your head wondering what it is you just watched, but as I learned when I recently had the pleasure of talking with Patrick, that’s exactly the point.
When asked what the videos are all about, Patrick likened them to “The Muppet Show.” “I sort of feel about the crab the way I feel about Miss Piggy and Kermit. In other words, I don’t want to think about the hand up there. I’m in love with Miss Piggy and Sheldon Krab has been my friend for as long as I can remember, and so based on that, my son and his wife, who are both writer/producers, decided to film the relationship of Patrick Duffy and his best friend and that’s what we decided to do and we are treating it strictly as that. We are just best friends. I’m not putting myself in the same category as a film star going on ‘The Muppet Show,’ but we’re treating it as that kind of relationship and it’s very interesting when you think that way and put subject matters, like a conversation about a threesome, when not only is a threesome a bit of an iffy proposition, but when one of them happens to be a crustacean it really changes the dynamics,” he chuckled.
Watching Patrick seriously debate issues with said crustacean is what makes the videos so hilarious and I wondered if while taping, he found himself breaking at the absurdity of it all. “Not while we were taping them so much. I mean there are a few outtakes I think, but sitting down and reading the scripts for the first time, it was, you know I’m sixty years old, I’m so out of the relevant loop that even the subject matters, I would listen to myself saying it and I’m thinking, ‘What am I talking about here?’ And my son would say, “Don’t worry Dad. This is great stuff,” he laughed. “And then I just trusted him, both him and Emily Cutler, his wife. Then we actually sat down and started filming with Sheldon, it was, inside my mind, I’m always thinking while I’m working, inside my mind I’m going, ‘This is funny to just not play it as funny at all.’ I just love it.”
Since B&B has helped promote the videos by posting them on their website, Patrick expressed his gratitude towards his Daytime family. “I must say I’m so grateful to The Bold and the Beautiful people because they got on board with it. They don’t have to do that. They don’t have to say boo about these things, but they thought it was cute enough to give us a little bump and it’s much appreciated and here I am speaking to you because of it.”
Two old friends debating topics of the day. While his son, Conor Duffy, and daughter-in-law, wrote, produced and directed the series of videos, the crab itself has been in the family for some time, as he starred in a play written by Patrick’s other son, Padraic, at his theatre company Sacred Fools.
As for the voice of Sheldon The Crab, although you may think you recognize it, Patrick prefers to keep the actor’s identity a secret. “I like the mystery, but most people go, ‘I know that voice.’” Even though they want to keep the anonymity of the actor in tact, Patrick assured me “He’s totally up for just being that voice." He then added, "He’s under the couch in the most ungodly positions to get his hands up there and he is actually the crab. He’s not just doing a voiceover.”
There have only been three videos posted so far, but Patrick let me know there were at least three more to come. While there has been tons of speculation online as to what these videos are actually about, with some people believing they are an advertisement for something, Patrick relayed that isn’t the case and he’s happy that most people are taking them for what they are, which is, “Just a bizarre piece of reality, with Sheldon The Crab as viable as Patrick Duffy.”
“We have no hidden agenda here,” he stated. “What we’d like to do, it doesn’t cost us more than just renting equipment to film them, so we’d like to just continue to do them and plunk them out there and keep the mythology alive.”
Part of that mythology involves creating a whole back story for Sheldon complete with mock production shots of Patrick and Sheldon performing various stage plays together, including works by Noel Coward, Eugene O’Neill and Shakespeare, with Sheldon playing Ophelia to Patrick’s Hamlet. Sheldon Krab (yes spelled with a K) even has his own Facebook page where you can see these photos.
As for B&B, Patrick can again be seen as the Logan patriarch Stephen on June 24 and 25. When asked how he feels about just popping up here and there on the soap, Duffy replied, “I enjoy it very much. I live in Oregon and it’s the perfect way to stay in touch. My children and grandchildren are all here in Los Angeles, so every once in awhile Brad (Bell, Head Writer/Executive Producer) will call, “Are you available?” I’ll say yes and all of a sudden there’s an episode with me in it and I come down. I love working with the cast. John McCook (Eric) is like an instant best buddy. I love all my children and Susan (Flannery, Stephanie) and I go all the way back to ‘Dallas’ days and [it’s nice] to pop in for one or two episodes and then go back to the ranch. It’s the perfect life. I would actually, I’m not campaigning for it, but I’d like to be as much involved in the scripts as they want me to be, of course. It’s prefect for me.”
However, it’s not all talking with fake crabs and B&B for this actor, as Patrick is currently shooting a Hallmark Channel movie in Los Angeles and will be part of an untelevised panel at the TV Academy dedicated to television fathers in honor of Father’s Day.
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the “Patrick Duffy & The Crab” videos here and here and if you’re on Facebook, friend Shel Krab, if only to see the fantastically humorous still shots of him and Patrick in their theatre productions. You won’t be disappointed.

Crystal Chappell Says Goodbye to Otalia
« Thread Started Today at 8:23am » [Quote]
Crystal Chappell heads back to Days of our Lives, leaving gay soap fans saddened that it’s Lights out for daytime's same-sex super couple Otalia.
By Michael Fairman
One thing is crystal-clear -- no other actress on daytime right now can generate a buzz quite like Crystal Chappell. In news that rocked the soap world on June 11, Chappell announced to TV Guide magazine that she was returning to the role that started her career on the soaps -- Dr. Carly Manning on Days of our Lives. While many celebrated that one of Days’ legendary heroines was headed back to Salem (Chappell played Carly for three years from 1990 to 1993), at the same time, the mourning process began. This announcement signaled the end of the line for Guiding Light’s Otalia, 2009’s super couple of the soaps.
Since 1999, Chappell has played Olivia Spencer for all she’s worth and then some, delivering one unforgettable performance after another. When the GL powers that be agreed to write a long arc love story between two women and put it on the air, they entrusted it in the capable hands of Chappell, along with her new on-screen acting partner, Jessica Leccia (Natalia). Over the past several months, daytime, mainstream, gay, and straight fans alike have connected with the unique relationship, played with all the twists and turns of two people finding love and acceptance with each other. Otalia’s popularity has grown so much that at this point, it’s a worldwide phenomenon.
In this exclusive interview for Advocate.com, Chappell sets the record straight on her decision to take the Days gig, her efforts to keep Otalia on the air any way she could, what this means for the end of Guiding Light, and the importance of Otalia’s love story.
With husband Michael Sabatino (who played Carly’s husband Lawrence Alamain on Days) and her two kids in tow, Chappell makes the move back to California -- a fresh start and a chance to revisit a primo role -- one that, at one point, had Carly buried alive.
Advocate.com: This is great news that you are coming back to Days as Carly. Was it an easy decision?
Crystal Chappell: It was. I was looking for a job, and it was one of those things that happened. I was in L.A., and I was driving by NBC to go to another meeting, and I thought, Gary Tomlin [co–executive producer of Days] is there, and I wanted to say hi. I went about my day and found out that same day that he called my contact information so he could talk to me. I am trying to listen to the signals in my life, and I thought it would be very interesting to go back and play this part after 16 years of being away. I am really happy to be going back, but it’s taking me a few days to get to this place. The day the news came out last Friday, I told my cast mates and they were unbelievably supportive and lovely, but I think the thing that dawned at me at that moment was, this was going to be the end of the character of Olivia. I kind of went through this little wallow over the weekend and went, Oh my God! This is so sad for me!
Gay fans have been so invested in Otalia’s story. We had such high hopes for it. Now that fans see it’s the end of the line for Otalia, in some ways it’s been so devastating… and obviously devastating for you.
Absolutely! We all have known since April 1st that our show was canceled, and we have all known there was an end date. We all had hopes that the show would continue. I know Jessica Leccia, Ellen Wheeler [executive producer], and Jill Lorie Hurst [co–head writer] all wanted the story line and the show to continue. But as far as I know, as of right now, we all finish taping August 7th. I would love for the show to continue, but unfortunately, or fortunately, I have to work. It became a practical decision, and I don’t know about Guiding Light being picked up.
People felt that if Otalia can’t save the show, then the show is not being saved!
Obviously, we talked many times that it is an extremely important story, especially Jessica and myself. I can only look at it and go, I feel really privileged that I got to play it and be a part of it, and enjoy the time I have left with it. But, it will forever be my favorite experience and favorite story. It’s due in part to the fans and how they have been, and how positive they have been.
You told Jessica you were going to go back to Days. How did that go?
I did tell Jessica, and she texted me back and said, Yay! Employment. You know, that is what we all wish for each other. It was funny. I had this wonderful news breaking last Friday. I am so lucky as an actor to have a job these days, but I really thought it hit me hard. I am the first one to announce: Hey, I’m going over here, and you could kind of see that people were so happy for me, but there was a weight that fell on the group. I kind of felt it all weekend. I am vacillating between extreme relief and joy and excitement about going back and trying something old and making it new again. At the same time I was feeling devastated. So, it was this weird emotional breakup at some level.
Perhaps Days could capitalize on the popularity of Otalia and have Jessica come over to join you.
Why not?
To the gay audiences who have fallen in love with the character of Olivia, how much has it meant to you?
I wish I could adequately put into words how honored I have felt to be a part of the story. Even during my trip to L.A. and my phone call with Procter and Gamble [Guiding Light's sponsor], I was grateful to them that they approved the story. I went back to the very beginning of it, because it was important to thank everyone who said yes along the way. I thought it was very brave. To have this opportunity to represent a group of people I have come to love and appreciate was amazing. The character may be finished, as far as I know, and the coupling, but I am still a big advocate and a big supporter and I will continue to represent the gay community in a positive light. It’s important to me and it’s something dear to my heart, and it’s because of the journey I have taken with this character.
Otalia’s journey is ending. Will it be a happy ending?
As far as I know, yes. There is a kind of closure to the whole show. I think people will be OK with how things end.
In your dreams of dreams, if Guiding Light was going to stay on, would you have stayed and not jumped to another show?
Absolutely! That was the idea certainly all along. I told Ellen Wheeler, if she can get the show moved I will be there, and the people at Procter and Gamble. I spoke to Jessica and we said we would be willing to move, and we want to be Web stars, and is there any way we can move the show there? I tried to think of everything I could, not just for the Otalia story line, but also for the show. You know this is their show and their business and they are doing what’s best for them.
It must be very frustrating.
I am the actor. I am the one who comes in and says the lines. If anything, it’s taught me to continue the story on some level. There is a story to be told, and as it’s being written now to take it to the Web would be a great idea. To me, it’s something that is very important to me. There is not much to say beyond that. I have been floored and wowed by how people have been supportive, and I am very grateful.
In all online reports, it says that you put out feelers to The Young & the Restless too.
I had meetings with everybody in the soap business. Y&R’s Paul Rauch [co–executive producer] and I go way back from his days at Guiding Light. I know B&B’s exec Brad Bell… I know everybody. When you have been around long enough, you know people. I talked with everybody to touch base. But, I was so intrigued about going back to Days, and it was also a timing thing and giving that another shot. I think it’s become an interesting show with Gary running it.
We have never seen such excitement and buzz about someone going back to a soap role that made them famous. It was the most interesting week, because fans love you as Carly and yet they are going through the devastation over losing Olivia at the same time.
I am going through the same thing. I am laughing and crying. I just need a break. I told my husband, I am acting like a lunatic, man.
How has your husband reacted to your decision to go to Days?
He pretty much let’s me make my own decisions about things. As you know, we have two small children and obviously I have to think about them. I am the one who works in my family. I am so fortunate that I have another job to go to and one that I am prepared to enjoy. I had a really good time at Days last time. My husband had been talking to me about the character of Carly and I went, I don’t know who this character is anymore. After two Bos [Robert Kelker Kelly and Peter Reckell] and so many years, it’s going to be an adjustment. I am back to Peter Reckell now, but I said, What I like about Olivia is she can be very brassy and I like her sense of humor. She can be more of a wild spirit. So, I am going to try to infuse those qualities into the character, as Michael calls it, Carly 2.0, because Carly the first time around was very reserved. I have every intention of making her a lot more fun. It’s an interesting challenge. I am happy to have it.
When you told every one of your cast mates at Guiding Light, what did they say?
They all said the same thing, Good for me. You deserve it. I cannot explain how close we are as a group, and how much that they meant to me. I would say the same thing to any of them. We all deserve it. We have done everything we could as a group, and worked really hard for the past year and a half and are proud of what we accomplished. It was lovely, really lovely, but it made me sadder.
Were you at all hesitant for the news to come out last week because of the knee-jerk reaction it might cause?
On the one hand, I was happy for it to come out. I knew about it for a few days, and I don’t like keeping a secret. I am excited about it and that the truth made me realize there is going to be a last date of taping, and we don’t want to go there. We want to party and live in our own little world.
Had you gotten any special e-mails from lesbian or same-sex couples along your journey?
Absolutely! I had gotten along the way, women all over the world who have reached out to me, and it’s been extraordinary, and it adds to the sadness of it all. Oh my God, I would love to continue this, are you kidding me? Especially since I see how much it has meant to them. People write to me about their journey, and are so open with me and open to sharing so much with me. It’s been one of the most exciting experiences I have had in my career, and all due to people’s willingness to talk to me. Yes, they have been grateful and lovely. When you have that many people telling you that you look good in jeans, I don’t want to take my denims off, ever! [Laughs]
Dr. Carly has to wear jeans now!
Yeah!
Did you see the Advocate.com Outtakes at MichaelFairmanSoaps.com?
Oh my God, of course. We will have to get together and do take 2.
I think people saw the realness between you and Jessica in that little piece!
Jessica and I are great friends. We will always have this experience. I can hang out with her all day. She is just this great person. She is beautiful and lovely.
And speaking of Jessica, she finally had her baby!
She had baby Ivy, and she was so swollen… the poor thing. Jessica was a trouper and she was out in Peapack, N.J., working quite a bit before she went on leave, and her feet were enormous!
I would laugh out loud every time the show would try to hide her pregnancy in scenes because she was so big, but they could not hide it!
I know. What can you do? There was a baby in there, but what can you do? She is at home now and totally in love with her daughter, and looking forward to coming back. She comes back to tape after the Fourth of July weekend
Have you told many of your Days cast mates about your arrival?
There are lots of people who are not there anymore. I was thinking about this. Well, I know Peter. I don’t know Kristian Alfonso [Hope] that well, but I e-mailed Peter after his Emmy nomination. I was one of the judges in the category and I thought he was amazing and outstanding. Other than running into him at events, I have not really spoken to him over the years.
Speaking of the Daytime Emmys, we were all upset you were not nominated. How do you feel about that?
You know what, I have been a really lucky girl as far as the Emmys have been concerned. I have nothing to complain about. I have one and I have been shown lots of love by my peers. Quite frankly, I did not have much last year. I did not think I would get nominated. I watched other supporting actresses for the past year and I felt their nominations were well deserved. I think I have something to compete with next year.
That’s right, because the Otalia stuff kicked off more this year!
Most of the stuff that was eligible last year was the recovery from the heart transplant. The Otalia stuff really did not kick in till, I think, the beginning of this year.
I hate to say this, but when Guiding Light comes to a close it’s going to be a horrendous day for all of us, and all of you, I would expect.
I think that is what really hit me last Friday… none of us have allowed ourselves to go there.
You start Days in September?
As far I know, I start sometime late August.
In closing, would you love Otalia to live on in people’s consciousness? And, that same-sex couples can be shown in continued romance on television and especially daytime?
I hope it does and I think it can endure. I hope this is just the beginning of couples like this in television. That is my biggest hope and biggest wish.
We hope you don’t get trapped and buried alive as Carly this time on Days!
Oh, been there, done that, Michael! I know how to survive underground now, are you kidding? I am like a mole… please! [Laughs]

Ever wonder what it would be like to have lunch with Reva (Kim Zimmer)? Oh, the stories she could share from her years on "Guiding Light," right? Well, here's your chance to a sit down with her: the True Colors Fund, founded by Cyndi Lauper, is holding an online auction of memorabilia and special celebrity events -- including a lunch date with Reva herself! Find out more about it here.
So unless you break bread with Kim Zimmer and she gives you next week's scoop in person (how cool would that be?), let's get down to brass tacks.
Ed Bauer is back! Yes, our prayers have been answered as Peter Simon returns to the role next week. But it's not for a happy reason: Phillip will get some tough news from his best friend's doctor dad. Cancer? Brain tumor? Take your guesses below, folks.
Expect Shayne and Mallet to discover what Dinah is up to. Her convoluted and, dare we say, totally nuts scheme of luring Edmund into a trap by impersonating Lara is certainly dangerous. Edmund was capable enough to fake his own death, so you know he's got serious evil mojo up his sleeve. She needs to be careful. It's not like Edmund hasn't kidnapped her before ... And how's Shayne going to react to all this?
Poor Olivia and Natalia. Too busy taking care of everyone else in their lives and not spending enough time trying to make their own situation work. But look for Olivia to finally come around, have a sit down with Emma, and explain things to her ever so delicately. Will she go into a tailspin of resentment and confusion like Rafe? Or will she just want to color and watch "Hannah Montana"? Seriously, you never know with small kids.
Remy has already put Christina in danger by proposing to her with one of the diamonds Cyrus was looking for. Now that Cyrus knows this, look for Remy to possibly get reckless and put her under even more dangerous scrutiny from Cyrus and Natasha ... and whoever else is involved with the diamond shell game.

Otalia fans have been waiting for this moment, and it looks like they'll get some of their reveal this week.
As we left young Rafael, he was watching her with Olivia on their front lawn, and not like most of the female "friends" he had seen. Now this week the truth will be revealed - and Rafe's relationship with Natalia will change - at least for now.
This story really brings some interesting twists and turns - and I cannot wait to see what happens! Rafe and Natalia were pretty much a two person team in Chicago when he was growing up. Then they move to Springfield, finding Gus/Nick only to lose his father not long afterwards. Their relationship has been very close, but when Rafe when to jail, Natalia's relationship with Olivia has changed - which makes Rafe feel threatened.
Rafe will confront both Olivia and Natalia this week about their relationship - which means that Otalia will have to think about telling Emma as well. Rafe's reaction will be pretty harsh from what I have seen - but will he calm down after he blows up (as he seems always to do when things don't go exactly as he thinks they should).
Full disclosure, this story has certainly brought a lot of discussion amongst GL fans. I personally have family members and friends who have walked away from "traditional" marriages for love with someone new - and of the same gender. I've had some pretty frank discussions with them about the challenges they faced with some family and friends, and the loving support they have received as well. Like all things, there are positives and negatives in people's reactions - but I always tell them that life is too short not to be happy with the person you love. That is what I wish for everyone - to have a happy relationship full of love that lasts a lifetime. Sure, after my 23 years of marriage there are struggles, but they are all worth it in the end…
And I have to admit that part of Rafe's reaction is also based on seeing his mom as someone who could be in a relationship and in love. She was with Gus only a small amount of time, and dated no one during his childhood (or so it seemed). I have to admit I went through some angst seeing my Dad date again when I was 24 (he was single since my parent's divorce when I was 7). So on top of seeing your parent dating (like it's reserved for only the young) he sees his Mom with Olivia - and very happy. There is a certain oddness about it all - but in the end, after the initial shock of seeing my parent as a real person who would want to find love (shocker, I know) I was glad he had someone to share his life with.
Now how will Rafe's reaction pan out? Will he be able to find his way past the anger that he seems to carry so close to the surface all of the time? I certainly hope so. Now that the show is winding down, and Jessica Leccia is away on a short maternity leave, we only have so many shows to resolve this story. And fans (like me) are rooting for a happy ending !
James, on the other hand, takes his anger to a whole new level. Unlike Rafe, he grew up with everything, except a loving home. Now Phillip and Beth are trying, in very different ways, to get him on the right track. This week Phillip sets the wheels in motion to save his son - but is it too late for their relationship?
And in Spaulding-Lewis world, lots of changes are set to take place this week. As Lizzie and Bill prepare to wed, they want to be free to enjoy their life - without the pressures of work (ahhh, wouldn't that be nice?). But will a major power grab ensue? And who wil
