GL Star Performs At Tony Awards
GL's Ron Raines (Alan) is set to perform a tribute to Broadway composer Jerry
Herman (of Hello Dolly! and Mame fame) at the 2009 Tony Awards, according to the
actor's official Web site, www.ronrainesonline.com. The awards will be broadcast
on June 7 on CBS.
Engen Speaks Out
Chris Engen, who last airs as YOUNG AND RESTLESS's Adam on June 24, has
commented on the recent controversy and mystery surrounding his sudden departure
from the role he created in 2008.
Engen posted this statement on his MySpace page on Tuesday, May 26. It began as
follows:
"Good Day. This is the first time in my life that I address an audience so vast
and varied. There are a number of heated topics that have become entwined with
my recent decision to quit my job, and I feel there are a number of truths that
deserve to be stated, a number of untruths that deserve to be rectified, and a
few of my own ideas that, by way of circumstance, I am compelled to inject into
the debate. This is the only statement I intend to make regarding this subject."
Engen made it clear that it was his choice to leave the role and that he did not
storm off the set, as several postings online hinted at. He made no comment on
the rumor that he was upset at an upcoming story point where Adam would kiss a
man.
"True — I was not comfortable with many of the challenges they presented before
me, but I put my head down and did my job," Engen continues. "The fact that I
had an opportunity as ostensibly attractive and lucrative as this, particularly
in difficult economic times and with so many talented actors and industry
professionals out of work was, of course, more than reason enough to be
grateful. I considered it part of the challenge and within my job description to
do the best with whatever storyline was being written for me, as I was very
fortunate to be getting a storyline in the first place. I understand that the
writers have a very difficult task. They accomplish more in a week than what
other shows do in over a month. I never stormed off the set, nor have I stormed
off any set in my 18 years of struggle as an artist. I felt generally unhappy
about my contribution to the show, and had greater and greater difficulty making
any sense of the challenges they were asking me to face. If that makes me a
limited actor, then so be it. I was allowed ONE meeting with Maria Bell, and I
called in sick ONCE in my 16 months on the show. In the end, I didn't feel that
decisions were being made in my best interests, personally or professionally."
Y&R didn't make any statement regarding the reasons for Engen's departure only
that Michael Muhney (VERONICA MARS, THE HUNTRESS) would be taking over the role.
His first airdate is June 25.

ATWT Casting News
Soap Opera Digest has learned exclusively that Forbes March, who won hearts as
OLTL's Nash, is joining ATWT on July 14 as Mason, Noah's college advisor.
"Mason's gay, too, so [he and Noah] have that in common. And we'll see where it
goes!" says March. The actor is aware of the strong "Nuke" contingent out there.
"Well, having received death threats when I played Nash and I had to deal with
Antonio fans, I think I'm ready for them," he cracks. For the full story, see
the next issues of Digest and Weekly.
GUIDING LIGHT Rally Unifies Fans
May 22 brought a good morning to many GUIDING LIGHT viewers. Hi, I'm Marc
Wilkofsky, Soap Opera Weekly's GUIDING LIGHT point person and a 29-year viewer
of the soap, and I attended today's "Save the Light" rally outside the Manhattan
studio of CBS' EARLY SHOW. Approximately 30 people showed up — some having
driven several hours from states as far as Virginia — and while some brought
creative signs and others wore Otalia shirts, they were all unified in one form:
They want Springfield's story to survive past September 18. In a very peaceful,
fun gathering, the show's dedicated viewers told me that GL is like their family
(which they and their family members have been watching for decades), and they
don't know what they'll do without it. One longtime viewer, H.B. (yes, that is
his real name, like Josh's dad), noted that he was watching for his late
grandmother, who was a GL fan. Others were new to GL or fans of other soaps, but
just wanted to support GL and soaps in general, and spread the word that GL
needs and deserves to stay on the air in some form. The organizer, Karen Oswald,
whose team handed out free cast photos, suggested that people across the nation
create their own easygoing rallies, even if they're in backyard barbecues, to
watch and talk about the 72-year-old show. Many attendees walked to the Lifetime
studios to continue the rally. More information on this and other rallies is
available at savethelightrally.com, and look for more material about today's
encouraging event and GL on my www.soapoperaweekly.com blog (Any Hour Now),
starting next week.
Adam Recast on YOUNG AND RESTLESS!
A new Adam will be wreaking havoc in the Newman household on Y&R, a show
spokesperson confirms. Y&R has recast Chris Engen with seasoned actor Michael
Muhney, who starred on VERONICA MARS and THE HUNTRESS, and has done guest spots
on many prime-time series, including WITHOUT A TRACE, CHARMED, JAG and CSI:
MIAMI. There were rumors earlier this year that Engen, who began on Y&R on
February 12, 2008, was leaving, especially after his character was sent to
prison. Muhney will first appear on June 25.
Mark Your Calendars!
Heads up, GL fans! An air date has finally been set. Paul Anthony Stewart
(Danny), Nancy St. Alban (Michelle) and Krista Tesreau (Mindy) will officially
return to Springfield on Thursday, July 2.

(Photo: CBS)
(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- As a mystery comes to its conclusion, a new adventure
begins.
THIS WEEK ON: GUIDING LIGHT
Remy decides that he has to sell the diamonds for cash when he learns the bank
is moving forward with the foreclosure. Cyrus arrives back in Springfield where
an unfamiliar woman named Natasha orders him to stay in touch. Cyrus spots Buzz
at Coop's grave. Cyrus tells both Buzz and Daisy that he was unable to locate
Grady and later asks Buzz for a job at Company. An impatient Natasha warns Cyrus
that he has to find the jewels Edmund had right away. Cyrus subtly questions an
irritated Frank about Edmund's case and later reports to Natasha that the cops
have no leads on the diamonds. Remy is stunned when Christina informs him that
she knows exactly what is going on after finding a diamond on the table. Remy
seizes the opportunity to propose to Christina, who tells him she prefers the
current state of their relationship. Christina and Remy meet with the diamond
dealer. Frank tells Remy that the missing gems appear to have been stolen. Time
ticks down, as Mallet has to decide whether or not he's going to charge Reva
with Edmund's death. Shayne and Mallet clash after Reva's son realizes his
mother is still in jail. Reva insists to Jeffrey that she did not kill Edmund.
Mallet tells Dinah that a search warrant is being issued for Reva's house but
assures her everything will be just fine if Reva is indeed innocent.
The Inside Story: Taking a Fall
Beth doesn't think that Phillip should turn himself in for a crime he didn't
commit. Phillip tells her that he already called the SEC. Lizzie and Bill accept
Phillip's offer to throw them an engagement party. Alan asks to speak to Phillip
alone and tells him that they need to put all their focus on James, not Lizzie.
Alan assures Phillip that he can make up for missing out on James' life if they
can get him past the trouble with the ponzi scheme. A thrilled Lizzie tells
Vanessa and Billy about the support she's been receiving from James and Alan.
Bill expresses his gratitude for Phillip, and tells Lizzie that her father
managed to save them again when they were in the Chicago prison. James is
planning on starting a new investment fund but he will need a new fake ID. Daisy
agrees to partner with James and gives him a brand new ID. James receives a call
from an investor and convinces Daisy to attend the meeting with him. James is
shocked when Phillip walks in on him. James manages to cut their conversation
short and he leaves for the meeting. Phillip overhears James talking about
money. Phillip busts James, and warns Daisy not to get involved with his
schemes. A concerned Phillip is at a lost concerning James behavior. Phillip
vows to take the blame for the ponzi scheme, even if it means he will have to
spend time in jail. James decides to start over fresh and hands his fake ID over
to his father. Meanwhile, Rafe comes in looking for Alan, who, at the moment, is
no where to be found. James and Rafe have a discussion about Daisy.
A Closer Look: Starting Over
Natalia is thrilled when she finds out that Rafe is applying for a job at the
police station. A proud Natalia watches on as her son leaves for his interview.
Frank gives Rafe bad news: Due to his felony record, he can't ever become a cop.
Rafe lies and tells Natalia that he's on a waiting list to become a Springfield
officer. The ex-convict informs his mother that he'll be looking for a new job
in the meantime. Olivia offers to assist Rafe, but Natalia wants her son to get
his life back together on his own. Rafe tells Olivia the real reason why he
cannot be a cop. Olivia advises Rafe to be honest with his mother. An angry Rafe

Malcom Return's
Fresh off the season finale of Criminal Minds, Shemar Moore is looking to do
something more than golfing this summer. He'll be reprising his role as Malcolm
on The Young and the Restless this summer.
Just why Malcolm is returning to the role that made him a superstar is not quite
clear just yet, but rumours say that the visit will be short and sad. Last year,
Moore revealed that former head writer Lynn Marie Latham refused to bring the
popular character back, even when Olivia (who was Malcolm's wife) was brought
back to the canvas.
No airdate for Malcolm's first appearance has been released.

Noah will remain a united front.

SUMMER PREVIEWS (SOD)
« Thread Started on May 20, 2009, 6:50am » [Quote]
Carly/Craig/Rosanna
"We've got a lot more in store for Carly before Maura [West] heads off for
maternity leave. When Rosanna moves in, it will be harder for both of them to
hide that Carly has a problem. The fact that Craig and Carly are trying to cover
up Carly's addiction will continue to make Ro distrust Craig."
Damian/Meg/Lily/Holden/Paul
"Meg and Damian's blossoming friendship pits Damian against Dusty. Paul has
shown that he's not willing to give up Meg without a fight and he's got some
creative ways to get both guys out of the picture. The last thing Holden wants
is to have Damian involved with his family, so he's not going to be very happy
about his involvement with Meg. It will create some friction between him and
Lily."
Luke/Noah
"Noah's been working on the movie about his father and Luke will be very
supportive of his decision. Colonel Mayer returns on June 23."
Brad/Katie/Henry/Vienna
"Katie's pregnancy really brings these couples together. In fact, when Katie is
told she needs bed rest, it's Vienna who's chosen to fill her spot on OAKDALE
NOW. Henry is adamantly opposed to Vienna's new career choice and will take
drastic actions to get her off the show."
Hunter/Alison/Casey/Emily
"Hunter and Alison's friendship will deepen, which doesn't thrill Casey, but
it's Casey's animosity toward [newcomer] Riley that will really spell trouble
for this couple. Emily will find a surprising ally in Larry when she decides she
wants another baby."
Dusty/Bonnie
"They've got a love/hate relationship going on. Dusty is used to playing the
knight in shining armor and Bonnie doesn't need any saving."

SUMMER PREVIEWS (SOD)
« Thread Started on May 21, 2009, 4:55pm » [Quote]
Previews Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler, "You can expect to see Springfield
come together for a lot of events over the summer, but we don't want to give
away how the show comes to a close at CBS." Adds Co-Head Writer Jill Lorie
Hurst, "We got babies, we got murder…."
Big Returns
Jonathan, Danny, Michelle, Mindy and Ed "are already woven into the stories as
we go forward now to the end," says Wheeler. Hurst adds, "Rather than bringing
old characters back for one big event, we want to bring them back at times that
most respect their history."
Reva/Edmund/Josh/Jeffrey
"I think we will do everything we can to avoid a [murder] trial," Wheeler says.
"That doesn't mean it won't come to a conclusion and lead us on lots of twists
and turns. The men in Reva's life, all of them, will go to great lengths to help
her and keep [her out of prison]."
Danny/Michelle
"We have the Bauer BBQ coming up and definitely Danny and Michelle and Ed will
be part of the story," Wheeler previews. "We won't be bringing Danny and
Michelle back with the mob chasing them."
Bill/Lizzie
"They get married mid-July and they're so happy to finally be together that we
don't want to steal away from that joy before we move on to a baby," says
Wheeler.
Olivia/Natalia/Frank/Rafe
"Natalia and Olivia will continue to have ups and downs," Wheeler says. "Jessica
[Leccia, Natalia] is being wonderful and taking a very short maternity leave for
us. Rafe's going to need his own special attention as he gets out of prison.
Natalia and Olivia are vastly aware of that and it will create some struggles
with them."
Shayne/Dinah/Mallet/Marina
Says Wheeler, "They all love and want the best for [Henry] and each other.
They're all in the murder story, as well. This story alone could full up a
summer."
Phillip/James/Alan/Beth
"The Ponzi scheme coming to a head is the catalyst that leads us in to the next
part of story for the Spauldings," says Wheeler.
Cyrus/Natasha"Natasha has a mission and she's got a very specific goal while
she's in town," says Hurst. "We have some really fun things planned for Cyrus in
the next few months."

Many Happy "Guiding Light" Returns!
« Thread Started on May 27, 2009, 4:20pm » [Quote]
It's hard to believe that "Guiding Light" is leaving us in September -- but that
doesn't mean things aren't going to be exciting until then, what with all the
comings and goings ...
We reported last month that "One Life to Live"'s BethAnn Bonner is slated to
begin appearing on "Light" in early June, in addition to the return of Paul
Anthony Stewart and Nancy St. Alban (as Danny and Michelle Santos). And earlier
this month, we confirmed that Tom Pelphrey is coming back as well -- reprising
his role as Springfield's bad dude, Jonathan Randall.
We can now also report that Peter Simon (Ed Bauer) and Krista Tesreau (Mindy
Lewis) are returning as well! Expect Ed to arrive around June 23rd, and Mindy to
land on July 2nd. The timing of all this means they'll probably be around for
the big Fourth of July Bauer BBQ -- or at least, we sure hope so! But with all
these familiar faces running around, who's going to mind that grill?
Mindy was last in town a few months back to attend her high school reunion with
Rick, Phillip, and Beth -- the self described "Four Musketeers."
Peter Simon -- who will forever be Ed Bauer to us, even though he was the third
person in the role -- is a huge return, in our opinion. Ed was last seen in
2004, when his character just kinda faded away. Last we heard, he was living in
California and aiding with recovery efforts down in the Gulf Coast area. Ed, of
course, was a major character on the show for about 50 years, having been born
on screen in 1951!
We're thrilled we can look forward to the return of these characters (and avoid
our intermittent pouty moments of mourning) who've became such an integral part
of Springfield's landscape. And we're excited for what else "Light" producers
have in store for us as September, and the end of the show, approaches.
What do you think will happen to Springfield when all these characters return?

« Thread Started on May 20, 2009, 12:42pm » [Quote]
"We're trying to mix it up and give different characters turns at being front
and center," says Co-Head Writer Scott Hamner. "We're also turning to a lot of
history. Expect a lot of surprises."
Sharon/Jack/Nick/Phyllis/Billy
"The paternity of Sharon's baby will be revealed. The revelation of who the
father is will launch a huge, new story art that will take us way into the fall.
It'll involve all of the Newmans and Abbotts and will be a very big story that
will be emotional for all of the participants. It's not just about the
revelation; it goes way beyond that and redefines everyone involved."
Victor/Adam/Ashley
"Adam is going to be running amok for quite some time. The danger of Adam is not
only does he have Victor in his sights, he also has Jack in his sights. He is
just driven to destroy these two men at any expense and then he becomes even
more of a threat because he's able to fly under the radar. He's trouble and is
going to be messing things up, generating a riptide of destruction."
Paul/Nikki/Mary Jane
"Mary Jane's identity comes to light. We're seeing just the tip of the iceberg
with her. We'll learn what she's in town to do, and it's going to be a really
huge surprise. I think it's going to be tremendous fun. Her presence is going to
affect Paul as well as everyone else on the canvas. But Paul is going to be
front and center in this story."
Cane/Lily
"They both stand to lose what they value and desire the most. They have a
beautiful romance, but it will be threatened."
Kay/Jill
"There are going to be huge revelations; there are still secrets about the
Chancellor family history that have not yet been discovered. There are going to
be triple whammies in this story."
Kevin/Jana/Daniel/Amber
"They're going to be involved in a mystery that's going going to be twofold in
its revelations. It has an explosive effect on Daniel and Amber due to the
reveal of one secret, but under that revelation is another twist that's going to
impact Kevin and Jana."

Sharon Kissed in the Nick of Time
« Thread Started on May 29, 2009, 7:07am » [Quote]
Sharon accepts Jack's magnanimous offer to raise her unborn baby today on "The
Young and the Restless," but then gets a shocking proposal from her true love,
Nick.
"The minute she decides she'll stay put, he says he has made up his mind and
he's done with Phyllis," says Sharon Case, who plays the confused and pregnant
Sharon Newman. "And then he kisses her!"
Viewers know that Sharon's baby could belong to her ex-husband Nick, current
husband, Jack, or Jack's brother, Billy. (She has been busy.)
"Sharon wants Nick more than anyone, but only under certain terms," says Case.
"Only if he's done with [current wife] Phyllis and in love with Sharon. Then,
Sharon wants to be with him."
Too bad she has just agreed to live with Jack when Nick plants one on her.
"Jack has been a super dude to her, saying and doing everything she always
wanted. He makes her a really good offer to raise the baby, and they are still
married. It makes sense to let Jack be her husband if he is willing to do that,
and not tamper with Nick and Phyllis."
But when Nick says his marriage is over, all bets are off.
"That throws everything into a spin again," says Case. "Sharon is, like, 'Now,
what?' She has to make the decision all over again because she has new
information."
Information that Phyllis won't like one bit.
"Phyllis is not there when this happens," says Case.
Which is lucky for Sharon, since Nick kisses her in the middle of the Restless
Style newsroom, where Phyllis works as editor.
"Nobody sees, because there's nobody there, for some reason," says Case. "They
used to cover all the scandals, but they miss this one. I guess the magazine
hasn't been doing too well since Sharon left."
Comings and goings: Speaking of scandal, Chris Engen (Adam) has abruptly quit
"Y&R," just as his story line was about to go in a homosexual direction. "Y&R"
has recast the role with Michael Muhney ("Veronica Mars"). Engen explained his
decision Tuesday in a lengthy blog entry on his MySpace page. ... Meanwhile,
Forbes March (ex-Nash, "One Life to Live") looks forward to joining "As the
World Turns" as Noah's gay college professor in July. ... Rick Hearst (Ric) will
make a dramatic exit from "General Hospital" in June, then join "The Bold and
the Beautiful" as Whip in July. ... Peter Simon (Ed) is the latest "Guiding
Light" actor to return before the show ends in September.

Marry Go Round
The last we saw of Sharon and Nick, he confessed that he wants to be with her
and pulled her into a sizzling hot kiss. This week, Sharon gives him an answer
-- and fans may be surprised to learn that she turns him down! Say what?
After months of wishing for a reconciliation and tucking the pain away everytime
Nick chose Phyllis, why is Sharon shying away? "Sharon loves Nick, but she only
wants him back because he has decided that he's not in love with Phyllis and not
because he feels a sense of duty to the baby," explains Case. "Sharon doesn't
want to feel like she forced Nick's hand in any way to be with her. So she is
not entirely convinced that he wants to be with her because he loves her. After
all, every time before he has always chosen to be with Phyllis, so why would she
trust what he's saying now?"
Nick is surprised by Sharon's response. "He's surprised and disappointed,"
comments Joshua Morrow. "He didn't really anticipate that reaction, whether it's
out of ego or being stupid. I think he felt he could go back to her when he
wanted, which is a pretty stupid thing to assume. But this knucklehead can't
keep stringing two women along while he's trying to make up his mind. Granted,
it's unintentional and he's not being malicious. He's genuinely in love with
these two woman. It's not like he wants to keep everyone in limbo. Now he wants
to be with Sharon, but she thinks it's too late."
Sharon insists that she won't allow Nick to break up his family for her, but he
begs her to reconsider. "He's trying to make Sharon see that this time it's real
and he's going to commit to her full on," says Morrow. "Of course, she doesn't
know what to believe."
Continues Case, "That's because she thinks this is just his knee-jerk reaction
to her pregnancy. Sharon doesn't want to have a man in her life who isn't fully
committed to her. That's what Phyllis is going through now and Sharon doesn't
need that."
Panicked, Phyllis finds out that Sharon has gone to see Nick, so she pops in at
Restless Style and interrupts their heart-to-heart. Immediately, Phyllis's
presence causes tension. "Nick doesn't want to be secretive and hide this,"
points out Morrow. "He wants to be up-front and honest. He isn't a bad guy, he's
just in a very difficult situation. He doesn't want to play games anymore. He
wants everyone to know where his head is."
However, Sharon stops Nick from telling Phyllis what's on his mind. "Sharon has
fully decided to reconcile with Jack and raise this baby with him, so she
emphasizes that to Phyllis," reveals Case. "That seems to make Phyllis hopeful."
Sharon quickly exits, and Phyllis asks Nick where their marriage stands. "Before
Nick can answer that, something happens with Summer, so Phyllis has to go home,"
groans Morrow. "Before she leaves, she makes a cryptic remark that she knows
what Nick and Sharon were talking about. Phyllis is sharp. She feels Nick
slipping away."
Meanwhile, Jack returns home to find a shook up Sharon. "She has to many
conflicting feelings about this and she's still not sure what to do," notes
Case. "Nick has confused her once again and has gotten her hopes up. It's like
everything is back up in the air."
Jack tells Sharon that everything will be okay with them, even though she had
sex with his brother, Billy. "If there was not a baby involved here, I'm not
sure Jack would be as forgiving, but I think he's protecting his fatherhood
rights," explains Peter Bergman. "Plus, he's still in love with Sharon. This is
as understanding as I've ever played Jack."
Sharon thanks Jack for his unfailing support. "Jack has really stepped up,"
acknowledges Case. "It's made up for the way he behaved in their marriage.
What's interesting is it would've been a far better outcome for Sharon and Jack
if he acted like that when they were married. She wouldn't be having this
trouble now."
Jack surprises Sharon by asking her to marry him -- again. "It's very quiet and
simple," notes Bergman. "Jack simply says, 'If this baby is going to be raised
by us, I'm thrilled. The only thing that would make me happier is us being
married.' He feels they ought to give it another shot. This is a guy who's in
love."
While Sharon considers Jack's proposal, Phyllis confronts Nick. "He tells
Phyllis that they lost something in their relationship and it doesn't have to do
with Sharon," winces Morrow. "Phyllis gets really upset and doesn't believe that
last part, so Nick finally admits for the first time that it's all because of
how he feels about Sharon. He tells Phyllis that it's time they moved on."
By the end of the week, a devastated Phyllis does just that when she finds
herself in a passionate situation with another man -- Jack Abbott!

Top Secret Plot to Bring Back Thom Bierdz
Not surprisingly, the jaw-dropping revelation that Cane has been in touch with
someone who looks just like the late Phillip Chancellor III has unleashed a
barrage of questions. Is it really Phillip? If so, where has he been all this
time? How did he end up in Australia? What's his connection to Cane, with whom
he was supposedly swapped at birth? The answers will be revealed as this story
unfolds, but just as shocking is the fact that Y&R was able to keep the return
of Thom Bierdz a secret.
"It definitely was hard work to keep this under wraps," smiles the actor. "I
knew since February that I was coming back, so it was killing me! What's really
cool is that I told some friends and galleries that sell my art, but I said,
'Just don't tell anybody.' And I'm so pleased that they didn't leak any of the
information."
Bierdz was surprised when he was first contacted by Y&R. "I was very surprised,"
he says. "What's so amazing is that it's almost been so years to the week of
Phillip's death, so that's astounding to me on a personal level. To go back 20
years later and visit and job that you were at, plus be a whole new person, is
exciting." (Ahem... new person? Covering his previous slip-ups!)
To pull off this shocker, Y&R made special arrangements for Bierdz. "When I was
shooting at Y&R, they didn't use my name on anything," he explains. "I would
come into the studio and I wasn't on any schedule or list, so security would
have to call someone and make sure I was allowed in. Everyone was very careful.
I would come in early and leave by 9:30 in the morning. I was the first one in
and I would shoot a lot of episodes in one day and then I would disappear again.
I was like the invisible man."
Bierdz also says that he feels more at ease this time than when he reprised his
character in 2004 (Phillip appeared in Katherine's booze-soaked dream). "It was
pretty overwhelming for me that time," he admits. "But now it seems I'm really
comfortable. I'm having a great deal of fun."
Although he can't talk about future storyline, if he's signed a long-term
contract and "whether or not I am Phillip," Bierdz is looking forward to sharing
scenes with his former co-stars. "Jeanne Cooper and I have kept in contact and I
think the world of her," he enthuses. "I'm so honored that we've remained close
all these years. I've also kept in touch with Tricia Cast, and I'm so excited
about working with her again in the future. It's so exciting that I will be able
to be with these people again."

A Closer Look -- Thom Bierdz
Two decades ago, Thom Bierdz's Phillip Chancellor III died in a tragic drunken
driving accident. Years later, it was revealed that Phillip actually wasn't
Jill's son when Daniel Goddard was introduced as the "real" Phillip. With
Bierdz's recent return, however, the identity-twisting story has more question
marks than ever!
WEEKLY: Were you aware of the whole Phillip-was-switched-at-bitch story that was
introduced two years ago?
BIERDZ: I had heard about it.
WEEKLY: Did you ever think you'd be invited back to the show?
BIERDZ: No.
WEEKLY: How were you approached about returning?
BIERDZ: Maria contacted me early in the year. She said she knew that I was doing
very well with my art, but asked if there was any way that I would find the time
to do a soap opera. Then, we met in Beverly Hills and discussed the possible
storylines. She's really a clever woman with some great ideas.
WEEKLY: Were these "ideas" what enticed you back to the show?
BIERDZ: Yes. I'm so excited about the possibilities. I'm not a young kid
anymore, and I want to do something significant with my life. This is going to
be a very significant thing to do for me.
WEEKLY: Do you think the story will make sense to longtime fans of Y&R?
BIERDZ: Yes. I think it's credible.
WEEKLY: Your return was kept top secret. Were you asked not to tell anyone about
it?
BIERDZ: They begged me not to say anything, and that was so hard. I did tell a
few of ym friends and a few gallery owners that have my art, but they didn't
leak the information.
WEEKLY: What was your first day like?
BIERDZ: They hurried me in to shoot several different episodes. They had me go
into the set without clearance. They didn't have a name or a badge for me that
day. They snuck me in.
WEEKLY: The internet response to your first air show was pretty astounding. What
are your thoughts on that?
BIERDZ: I'm very flattered. It totally makes sense to me. This is the
possibility of a character that's been dead for a long time coming back. I'm not
saying that is what's happening, but it's certainly an actor that's been gone
for 20 years coming back. I can understand why people are interested, only
because I, doo, used to watch soap operas 30 years ago and there are some actors
that are still in my mind. I think, "What ever happened to that preson?"
WEEKLY: What's changed coming back to Y&R twenty years later?
BIERDZ: It seems totally different to me. I did run into prop people I knew and
camera people I knew, but what's different is that I don't have this covering on
anymore. I'm not thinking, "Okay, I've got to pretend that I'm straight so I can
further my career." I'm walking in there and I can be a gay man, and I can be
accepted for that and supported for that. I don't think that was possible 20
years ago.
WEEKLY: If this gig develops into something long-term, would you be amenable to
staying?
BIERDZ: Again, it's a time in my life where I would really like to do something
significant. I believe this is a forum for that.
WEEKLY: Are you looking forward to meeting Daniel Goddard and sharing your
thoughts on Phillip, whoever he may be?
BIERDZ: Absolutely. He's a wonderful actor. There's an awful lot behind his
smile during scenes. He's very subtle. The more I watch him, the more I think,
"Wow! There's so much going on here!"

> Here are NEW Summer previews, courtesy SNS from Soap Opera Digest (SOD):
"We're trying to mix it up and give different characters turns at being front
and center," says Co-Head Writer Scott Hamner. "We're also turning to a lot of
history. Expect a lot of surprises."
Sharon/Jack/Nick/Phyllis/Billy: "The paternity of Sharon's baby will be
revealed. The revelation of who the father is will launch a huge, new story art
that will take us way into the fall. It'll involve all of the Newmans and
Abbotts and will be a very big story that will be emotional for all of the
participants. It's not just about the revelation; it goes way beyond that and
redefines everyone involved."
Victor/Adam/Ashley: "Adam is going to be running amok for quite some time. The
danger of Adam is not only does he have Victor in his sights, he also has Jack
in his sights. He is just driven to destroy these two men at any expense and
then he becomes even more of a threat because he's able to fly under the radar.
He's trouble and is going to be messing things up, generating a riptide of
destruction."
Paul/Nikki/Mary Jane: "Mary Jane's identity comes to light. We're seeing just
the tip of the iceberg with her. We'll learn what she's in town to do, and it's
going to be a really huge surprise. I think it's going to be tremendous fun. Her
presence is going to affect Paul as well as everyone else on the canvas. But
Paul is going to be front and center in this story."
Cane/Lily: "They both stand to lose what they value and desire the most. They
have a beautiful romance, but it will be threatened."
Kay/Jill: "There are going to be huge revelations; there are still secrets about
the Chancellor family history that have not yet been discovered. There are going
to be triple whammies in this story."
Kevin/Jana/Daniel/Amber: "They're going to be involved in a mystery that's going
going to be twofold in its revelations. It has an explosive effect on Daniel and
Amber due to the reveal of one secret, but under that revelation is another
twist that's going to impact Kevin and Jana."
> Here are upcoming spoilers for the Summer months courtesy Toni's:
- Two characters you may or may not expect will end up in the sack together.
Will it be a one night stand, or will it turn into something more?
- The gaslighting of Ashley reaches critical mass. What's she facing is twisted
cruelty.
- News of Sharon's pregnancy rocks Phyllis and Nick's marriage. A turning point
is reached. Big stuff coming up.
- Tragedy is just around the corner for more than one character.
- Two characters with a complicated relationship may be mending fences.
- Mary Jane gets crazier by the moment, raising suspicions of more than one
person in Genoa City. Is she capable of committing the ultimate sin, and is
Victor heartless enough to push her over the edge in the name of revenge ? Dark
days are ahead for Mr. Newman, Mary Jane's true identity will be revealed
shortly.
- Death will effect more than one character and may be on the horizon for
another.
- Someone loses their riches.

The Suds Report: May 29, 2009
By Nelson Branco
`Guiding Light' exodus! Plus: Did Jeffrey kill Edmund?; Will Josh and Reva
reunite? `Y&R' scandal: Chris Engen speaks! `World Turns': Yep, Forbes March is
gay for pay! `GH's Rebecca is Emily's evil twin! Who's back on `One Life'? Is
Robin Strasser on recurring?
SUDSIEST QUOTES OF THE WEEK:
"My daughter is going to be very confused."
—Forbes March (Mason, World Turns) to Soap Opera Digest on playing gay
Translation: Just like the World Turns' audience is on a daily basis.
"I had sort of given up; maybe that's the key to getting an Emmy nomination."
—Peter Reckell (Bo, DAYS) to Digest
Translation: Take notes, Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B).
"I can't even believe I'm up next to Tamara Braun [ex-Ava, DAYS]."
—Bree Williamson (Jess, One Life) to Digest on her Emmy nod
Translation: And neither can Kathy Brier (Marcie, One Life).
All My Children, A/ABC — Zendall remarry!
• From the desk of National Post's gossip guru, Shinan Govani: "Jamie Luner as
Liza Colby is probably the worst recast since Roger Moore as James Bond." Govani
isn't going to elicit an argument from me. Luner is coming off like Phyllis
Newman on crack.
• Oh, crap: Chrishell Stause (Amanda) has only re-signed until September,
reports daytimeconfidential.com.
• We had it coming: In story 411, Zach and Kendall remarry so Slater-ilicious
doesn't have to testify against Ms. Hart-less. "I don't want a legal record on
how many times we've cheated on one another," says a relieved Kendall. "There
isn't enough paper in the world," quips Zach.
• If you live in the Ottawa area, you'll want to check out Walt Willey (Jackson)
and Jill Larson (Opal) who are performing in The Odd Couple at Ottawa's
Riverfest on July 24-26.
• Soaps Up! aired a picture of D.A. Henry North played by Kieran Campion — and
he's hot stuff, people! (So much for AMC looking for a Justin-Deas type.) And he
looks like a fetus. Don't you just love how soaps are casting young adults as
legal eagles and doctors? Henry is married to Stephanie Gatschet-Pelphrey's
Madison North.
As The World Turns, Global/CBS — March-ing homo!
• Gay for pay: Canadian Forbes March (ex-Nash, One Life) has been cast as Mason,
Noah's film advisor who arrives on July 14. Nuke fans, step away from your
computer: at press time, there are no plans for Mason and Noah to hook up.
March tells The Suds Report that he jumped at the chance to play a unique
character like Mason on the soap dial. "I am interested in characters who will
demand I look at the world through someone else's eyes and fight for their point
of view; so a gay character was interesting to me. I am not phobic of really
anything and I certainly am not homophobic," he proudly proclaims. The gorgeous
actor elaborates, "From a Christian point of view, God is love and if you don't
love your fellow man, then you don't love God. I do not find hate or
intolerance, self-righteousness or a lack of humility or compassion to be
consistent with my understanding of our philosophy. From a secular point of
view, gimme a break! To be homophobic should be as embarrassing as any other
ignorant and hateful fear and I hope we are close to that time. I am an actor
and I tell stories and love is love." Someone should alert a certain Y&R actor.
So, does March feel bad competing with his alma mater, One Life, now that he's
starring on their timeslot competitior? "In regards to being in competition with
the kids at ABC, wow, I really am a schmuck `cause that hadn't crossed my mind.
I'm just glad that someone's given me a chance to be part of a great story
again."
Regarding daytime: "I love to tell stories; I love to act; I love being on set;
I love working on scripts. I am glad to be somewhere my insanely, delightfully
mad daytime fans can see me again. They are totally Kelloggs-crazy and they
picked me up when One Life left me feeling pretty down. I owe them a good show!
I've been a big fan of [executive producer] Chris Goutman's for a long time — he
actually conducted my first New York audition a long time ago, so I'm glad I'm
getting a chance to work with him."
• Condolences go out to Scott Bryce (ex-Craig Montgomery), whose mother, former
GL and The Doctors actress Dorothy Bryce, passed away at the age of 85.
• Hopefully this means that two of my favourite World Turns actors are off the
back burner: This week, Tom and Margo are shocked to learn that their son, Adam,
was killed in Afghanistan. Or was he? This storyline will introduce newcomer Tom
Dengan as Sgt. Riley Morgan. Don't get your hopes up because I bet Ellen Dolan
(Margo) and Scott Holmes (Tom) won't be on the front burner when this storyline
wraps in three weeks.
The Bold and the Beautiful, CTV/CBS — Diamont and KKL sizzle!
• Is it me or is B&B on the upswing again? My fast-forward button took a
much-needed holiday thanks to the renewed feud between Stephanie and Brooke. The
iconic rivalry was re-ignited due to Bill and Stephanie's launch of The Logan
Chronicles on the Spencer Publications' website. This past Tuesday's episode was
a highlight — and it was written by none other than Martha Byrne (Andrea, GH).
It was her best offering yet. I'm beginning to suspect that head writer Brad
Bell has personal experience with family/corporate shenanigans because no one on
daytime TV writes a business storyline like the Emmy-nominated producer/scribe.
Are the Forresters modelled after the Bells?
• Holy chemistry, Brad-man: There wasn't a dry seat in my house when Katherine
Kelly Lang (Brooke) and Don Diamont (Bill) hooked up on-screen for the first
time! With Ridge orbiting Taylor's altered universe once more, the fashion
sudser would be smart to pen a big love story between Bill and Brooke, who could
easily put the B and B in B&B. Taylor earned major points from me when the
usually annoying psychiatrist finally summed up the romantic tragedy that is
Ridge and Brooke the other day. It was a brilliant assessment, which proved to
me that perhaps she did, in fact, earn a shrink degree. Let's pray Ridge
listened to his ex, because I wholeheartedly agree. It's time to say good
riddance to the epic disaster that has become Brooke and Ridge.
• Memo to the hair department: Whoever styled Jennifer Gareis' (Donna) hair this
week should be shot. Meanwhile, Gareis was recently named an honourary citizen
by the City of Militello Val di Catania in Italy. Congrats.
Days of our Lives, NBC
Days of our Lives, Global/NBC — Ramsey out!
• Is Ken Corday on vacation again? Shocker: I'm miraculously digging life in
Salem again! Let's pray if Corday is indeed sunning his hole-in-one arse
somewhere that the silver spoon baby doesn't return because DAYS was my second
favourite soap to watch this past week. And yes, I'm sober as I write this.
NBC's lone soap has been slowly improving each week, but the past few episodes
have drawn me in as a — gulp — fan. In fact, the usually campy and nonsensical
writing and dialogue are now extremely tight and clean these days (I have a
hunch that's because Richard Culliton is on board). Sorry, EJami fans: I'm
falling in love with Sami and Rafe big time — and Alison Sweeney — all over
again. Galen Gering's (Rafe) acting is so natural, it's hard to believe he was
ever on Passions. Moreover, DAYS boasts the best lineup of hunks on the daytime
dial. From Jay Kenneth Johnson (Philip) to James Scott (EJ) to Shawn Christian
(Daniel), this soap is finally easy on the eyes and brain mainly because these
super-studs can actually act. While it's absurd that Steve and Kayla are nowhere
to be found as their daughter, Stephanie is kidnapped by Patch-clone Owen, the
DiMera and Kiriakis feud is an inspired, enveloping umbrella storyline (remember
those?). Finally, soap vets John Aniston (Victor) and Joe Mascolo (Stefano) are
stealing the entire show as the two legendary powerhouses do battle Greek-style.
They should just bend each other over already…
It looks like the combined talents of executive producer Gary Tomlin and co-head
writer Chris Whitesell may just be the match made in heaven the devil who owns
this show has been looking for.
• Newcomer Dylan Michael Patton (Will) is a mighty promising new addition to the
soap world. Patton sets the record straight with Soap Opera Digest this week:
sorry fans, he's a heterosexual. Not sure who was asking, but the teenager
wanted there to be no confusion regarding his sexuality. The 16-year-old goes on
to say he's "single; a bachelor — and enjoying it." Memo to Patton: don't be in
a hurry to grow up too fast, or you'll be dealing with Will's woes. Meanwhile,
I'm loving Patton's chemistry with on-screen mom, Alison Sweeney. "God, I sound
like my mother," said Sami recently. Nice.
• It was a soap extravaganza on Entertainment Tonight Canada this past week.
Peter Reckell (Bo) and Kristian Alfonso (Hope) sat down with the entertainment
news program to reflect on their 20-plus years together as Salem's definitive
super-couple. The Daytime Emmy-nominated actor told ETC that it was he that
coined Hope's nickname, "Fancy Face", not the writers when he saw how beautiful
Alfonso looked on set one day. Does that mean my nickname is "Fancy Ass?"
• The median age in Salem is getting younger and younger, folks. Two more hunks
are headed to Salem: Mark Hapka will be playing Nathan Horton [Jannings], Pete
and Melissa's son, and Casey Jon Deidrick has been cast as Chad, the father of
Mia's baby. Remember how hot Michael Leon (ex-Pete) was back in the day? I
wonder how he's aged over the years…
• Just as I was falling for Wes Ramsey's performance as the creepy, yet
well-intentioned and intellectually challenged kidnapper, Owen, comes word that
the former GL heartthrob will be departing the series this week. Hmmm… I
wouldn't have minded an Owen/Stephanie/Philip love triangle. Can we keep him,
Gary?
Daytimeconfidential.com, iTunes — GH preview!
• GH expert, the always lovely and charming, Regan, came out with her weekly
Port Chuck spoilers, and there are doozies. All signs point to the fact that,
yes, Rebecca is Emily's evil twin sister. D'oh!
General Hospital, CTV/ABC — What's the deal with Nathan Parsons?
• Bob Guza is his own worst enemy. It's odd that ABC refuses to welcome back
leading man Tristan Rogers, whose Emmy-worthy performance as a cancer-stricken
superhero on Night Shift is still fresh in my memory. When the Aussie thespian
returned to Port Charles in February 2006, he helped the ABC soap crack a 3.0 in
the ratings. Also, GH tied Y&R in the demos that week, beating Y&R in the 18-49
demo. Bring him back, Guza-erella. You can't write in Holly without her true
love, Robert. Since Emma Samms couldn't make it for Robert's deathbed dream
reunion on NS, a Holly-Robert walk down memory lane on GH would have made fans
happy. But silly me — we wouldn't want that, would we?
• Congratulations are in order for Emmy nominee Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
The popular star is now engaged to his girlfriend Keira O'Neil. The couple will
tie the knot in the spring of 2010 — as along as Spixie fans don't kidnap the
actor and force Anderson to be their love slave for eternity.
• Anthony Geary leaves town as that cheating former rapist, Luke Spencer, on
June 10. The Emmy winner tells Soaps In Depth that for the first time he's kind
of bummed with the fact that he's heading off on his annual summer vacation
because he's "having the best time maybe I've ever had [on GH]." Oh, God —don't
tell me Geary is drinking the Monavie Kool-Aid, too?! The best time, ever?
Seriously? I need to get me some Nathan Parsons (Ethan) STAT because that boy
obviously works miracles.
• FYI: Emma Samms' run as Holly has been extended until June 2. Wow — you're so
generous, GH!
Guiding Light, Global/CBS — Sudser cleaning house in time for finale? Reva and
Josh: Part 695?
• Don't expect all your favourite Springfield players to make it to the end when
the soap airs its final show on Sept. 18. Insiders tell The Suds Report that
more than a handful of characters will leave the canvas to make room for more
legacy characters/vets during the 72-year-old sudser's swan song. Yep, expect
more old faves to return — if all goes according to plan.
• Jeva fans rejoice: The buzz on the GL set is that Jeffrey murdered Edmund to
help pave the way for Josh and Reva to reunite just in time for the finale. I'd
love to be a fly on the wall when someone informs Kim Zimmer (Reva).
• Which GL star is thisclose to signing another deal with another soap? "It's
basically a done deal," says a source. More next week.
• The Suds Report is stunned to hear that no one from TeleNext Publicity or any
of the actors showed up to support the fans during the GL rally at The Early
Show last week. Afterwards, the 30-plus fans who showed up tried to find the GL
studios, but couldn't. So what did they do? The loyal and passionate GL viewers
hightailed it over to the One Life studio. The ABC stars came out to greet the
impressed fans.
As an aside, it's too bad Alan Locher didn't take advantage of the PR
opportunity — especially since CBS security ushered the rally out of camera's
view. Hey GL-ers: next time, call me; I'm close pals with The Early Show's
executive producer, Zev Shalev, and could have alerted him to treat you guys,
like, um, valued fans instead of an on-screen nuisance. I laughed out loud when
welovesoaps.com's Roger Newcomb wrote on his blog that he wished guest Kanye
West sang "Heartless" to the CBS security team.
• He's no Hugh Jackman, but Ron Raines (Alan) will do! The GL vet will be
performing at the 2009 Tony Awards on June 7. Congrats! By the way, Raines is
one of the nicest people this business employs.
Imaginary Bitches, imaginarybitches.com — DVD a must-buy!
• So I finally inserted my Imaginary Bitches disc into my welcoming DVD to check
out the Emmy-nominated web show sensation's special features — and re-watch all
the eppys back to back. Let me tell you — the brilliant series is much more
viewer-friendly on your flat screen/boob tube than on your computer screen.
Also, the special feature interview section with the entire bitchy cast was
expertly edited and conducted. As an added bonus, there is an episode commentary
with Eden, Catherine and Heather — which basically acts as a bonus show itself.
It really is worth the buy, so what are you waiting for, biatches?
One Life To Live, A/ABC — Who's coming back?
• A major star from the past is returning to the soap this fall. Guess who?
• For some reason, there is an erroneous rumour floating around that Dame Robin
Strasser (Dorian) is on recurring contract status — which is not true, my
children. However, La Strasser's contract does expire in October, so start
threatening ABC now to keep the Emmy winner in Rapeview for the next few years.
Yes, there is a possibility she will be dropped, but at this juncture, it looks
like Erika Slezak (Viki) has more to worry about than Strasser. If ABC honcho
Brian Frons was smart, he'll convince the Castle producers to secure Strasser as
one of Nathan Fillion's (ex-Joey) evil publishers for a recurring or guest gig.
I should be running this network, I know.
• The big question right now is: What is Téa's secret? Hmmm… I wonder if she
gave birth to Todd's kid during her Llanview hiatus. It's either that or she
ordered the Abu Ghraib prison rapes.
• Chemistry alert: during their recent scenes, Farah Fath (Gigi) and Scott
Clifton (Schuyler) showed a lot of promise as a future couple. Memo to JP
Lavoisier: I'd be worried, dude! Seriously — Clifton is on fire as Schuyler.
Thank the soap gods that One Life cast the former GH stud as the morally
ambiguous high school teacher, and not that One Tree Hill reject.
• It's no secret that my favourite One Life actor ever is Trevor St. John
(Todd). Yep, I know that's a shocker, but if we had to lose the actor, I think
there's only one star who could take over the role of Todd Manning — Desperate
Housewives/Queer As Folk star Gale Harold.
Sordid Lives, Logo — Fans unite, GL-style!
• Love the hilarious, oh-so-naughty, and campy Del Shores soap masterpiece? Sign
this petition to keep the show alive — even though it doesn't air in Canada…
yet.
The Young and the Restless, Global/CBS — Engen's verbal diarrhea!
• The cast and crew of Y&R are talking about one thing these days and one thing
only: Chris Engen (Adam) quitting his role mid-contract. Engen issued a
statement regarding the charges that he bolted from daytime's No. 1 soap because
of an upcoming gay storyline on his MySpace page. If anyone can translate this
into English for me, I'd be mighty grateful. Thanks.
• No intel here, but I'm beginning to think that Katherine helped fake Phillip's
death after a recent scene that aired featuring La Chancellor, Nina and Jill at
the heir's grave site. By the way — the divas all looked amazing in their
earth-tone attire that day. Actually, Jess Walton (Jill) has been rocking her
wardrobe lately. Swoon.
Also, how perfect is Eric Braeden's (Victor) performance as of late? It's so
clear to me, thanks to the subtext Braeden is infusing into his performance,
that Victor suspects Adam has been behind the haunting of Ashley all along.
Kudos are also in order for the writers who are keeping Victor's brains intact
without spoiling the storyline in the process.
• Lauralee Bell (ex-Cricket Christina) is the creative brains behind Family
Dinner, a comedic web show that premières on June 8 at funnyordie.com and
familydinneronline.com. Set entirely around a suburban dinner table, the series
unfolds in three-minute instalments and features Bell as a manic,
attention-starved mom who's desperate to be on Oprah. Sounds like dinner at the
Bell family table to me!
• Boy, The Price Is Right is desperate to boost their ratings. Don't miss the
June 1st episode of the game show when Daniel Goddard (Phillip 2.0) and Joshua
Morrow (Nick the Dick) guest star.
• Memo to Y&R: I'm becoming sick and tired of this back-and-forth
Phyllis-Nick-Sharon love match (those endless Soap Opera Digest covers aren't
helping either; come back, Eric Braeden). Sharon and Phyllis both need to dump
the confused hunk like yesterday. Also, I miss Nick's goofy sense of humour. Can
Nick have some fun even if it's just for one scene? Poor Josh Morrow: he looks
like he's suicidal these days. And why doesn't Nick have any friends? Cane and
Nick should go get drunk together during an eppy of Price Is Right. Shirtless.
• Daytime's natural born loser, Jack Abbott, should be legally prohibited from
giving anyone any advice ever! However, tune into Nelson Ratings on Monday for a
huge rave on Peter Bergman's (Jack) killer performance this past week. Bitch
made mincemeat out of Michelle Stafford (Philly) and Sharon Case (Share-me).
Good work, Peter — even though I can't stand your emasculated character.

SOAP OPERA DIGEST INSIDER
May 28, 2009
Greetings From The Editor
Lynn Leahey
Dear Readers,
Forget romance -- it's babies that drive some of the most potent,
heartwrenching stories on daytime next week -- starting with OLTL's
Jessica, who finally learns that her baby died. Viki's the one who finally
gets through to Jess, and "It's very sad," previews Bree Williamson
(Jessica) in the new issue. "She remembers everything." ... Also facing
down tragedy is DAYS's Sami, who like OLTL's Jessica, was the victim of a
baby switch. But in Sami's case, it's the baby she thinks is hers that's
in peril: Little Grace has seizures and is rushed to the hospital. Alison
Sweeney found the scenes difficult to play. "When you have a child, you
have such a firsthand understanding of how horrible it would be to have
your child go through this," she says in the new Digest. "It's so scary."
... ATWT's Tom and Margo get bad news about their child, too, when they
learn Adam was killed in Afghanistan. "It's devastating," sighs Ellen
Dolan (Margo). "It really is numbing." All of which means it's time to
grab the Kleenex -- and stay tuned for some powerhouse scenes!
TALES FROM THE INTERVIEW
Tom Stacy: I don't know about you but I'm really looking forward to next
month's scandalous romp on GENERAL HOSPITAL involving Port Charles Mayor
Garrett Floyd for two major reasons. Not because I'm a connoisseur of the
lascivious (really, I'm not!) but because (1) it promises to involve Nancy
Lee Grahn (Alexis). Grahn has been criminally underused as of late and
even though she's a superbly skilled dramatic actress, the gal can really
make me laugh. And (2), it's bringing the unsinkable Martha Byrne to ABC!
In the new issue of Digest, Byrne opened up about her unceremonious exodus
from ATWT, where she played Oakdale heroine Lily on and off for over 20
years, and reveals how she plans to fit a cross country commute into her
busy family life. Byrne is candid, honest and always a delight. But don't
go by me -- you be the judge. Look for "After Byrne" in the 6/17 issue.
Lauren Flynn: An "exit interview" is never particularly fun, and having
conducted quite a few of them over the last few years (Forbes March's,
ex-Nash, still hurts!), I insisted that we do something with Kathy Brier
that would celebrate her six-and-a-half years on OLTL. Naturally, we
discussed the nature of her exit, and though she expressed her
disappointment that the show had no more story for Marcie, she is very
pleased with the end result ... and that's all we'll say on that. She also
shared a very sweet experience at Super Soap, around the time Marcie and
Al were falling in love. "I remember this little 12-year-old boy saw [her
and Nathaniel Marston, ex-Al] and we were about to leave and he was like,
'Marcie, Marcie, stop! Can I get your autograph?' I was like, 'I'm gonna
be late for the plane,' and he ran back two minutes later and he said,
'You know why I love Marcie and Al? Because they're friends. And I love
that they're friends, you know? I hate the show when people kiss, but I
don't mind it when you and Al do it because you're friends.' It was cute
and amazing at the same time to see how much [children] really do pay
attention and they really do take things in." Let's hope wherever Brier
lands next, her fans are just as appreciative! For more, check out the
four-page feature on Brier, "Happy Go Lucky."
Stephanie Sloane: I had a great phone chat with Paolo Seganti (Damian,
ATWT) for his feature in the new issue. He and I hadn't spoken before or
even met, yet he was so forthcoming and easy to talk to. He addressed the
big Lily switch that occurred in his absence, noting, "Martha [Byrne,
ex-Lily] and I are still very close friends, though we're far away, but I
really enjoy working with Noelle [Beck, Lily]. There's a chemistry there
that you don't create. It's there or it's not and I'm lucky with that
again." Seganti talked about the big lasagna bake he did f
