Nancy St. Alban Returns to GL
One of GL's most beloved couples finally comes home! Hot on the heels of Paul
Anthony Stewart's upcoming return as Danny, Soap Opera Digest has learned that
Nancy St. Alban will reprise the role of Michelle Bauer, which she took over in
2000, in late May. She was last seen on-screen in 2005. Plans for a recast were
scrapped in light of the show's cancellation. GL reached out to the actress to
reprise her role.

GH Casting News
Martha Byrne (ex-Lily, ATWT) is joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL. The
daytime vet will be playing Andrea Floyd, the wife of Port Charles Mayor Garrett
Floyd, played by John Bolger (ex-John, OLTL, et al). The role is recurring and,
according to a show spokesperson, "open-ended." Byrne begins taping in mid-May.
The actress left ATWT in 2008 after a 23-year run and was replaced by Noelle
Beck (ex-trisha, LOVING). Most recently, Byrne served as a script writer on BOLD
AND BEAUTIFUL.

GL Star To Return
Digest hears that GL alum Paul Anthony Stewart (last seen on-screen back in
2005) is set to reprise his role as Danny in May. GL confirmed earlier this year
that a Michelle Bauer recast was in the works, along with other potential Bauer
family returns. In March, Stewart told Digest, "I learned long ago in this
business to never say never to anything. If something interesting were presented
to me, I certainly would consider it seriously."

Monday May 4. Paul begins to ponder the familiarity of Mary Jane. On Tuesday,
May 5, Victor give Nick an offer that could put him in further odds with

The Inside Story: One Father Too Many

test in her hand ready to take it to see if she possibly could be pregnant. When
the results come in, she is floored to discover that she is in fact pregnant.
She soon becomes overwhelmed by everything that is coming at her at once and
begins to wonder what is the best thing for her to do. Sharon soon heads to the

daughter. Sharon later finds herself debating on who to approach about her
pregnancy and she instantly heads to Restless Style to find Nick. Unfortunately
when she arrives, Phyllis instantly blocks her attempts to talk to him,
therefore Sharon leaves to find her next possible 'father' to talk things out.
When she shows up at his office, Jack can tell that something is troubling her
and he immediately tries to console her when she tells him about her pregnancy.
Thinking that Jack would immediately question her, Sharon is stunned when he
shows sheer happiness at the news. Jack soon offers to be fully involved in the
baby's life, even if the baby could be Nick's. Sharon is skeptical and asks if
he's sure if he could raise a baby that might not be his. Jack reassures her he
can. Shortly after Sharon departs Billy arrives and sees how distracted Jack has
become and questions what's going on. Jack, still in awe, announces to his
brother that Sharon is pregnant. Not giving it away, Billy silently begins to
panic and later departs. Soon after, he finds Sharon and tells her that if he's
the father, he's going to step up and let it be known. Meanwhile, Nick, who is
at the park with Summer, is surprised to see Sharon there. She's about to tell
him about her pregnancy when she's interrupted by Summer's fall off the swing.
Nick, followed by Sharon, takes the little girl to the hospital when Phyllis
shortly arrives. When Sharon sees the closeness between Nick and Phyllis over
Summer, she realizes that she can't tell Nick and decides to go back to Jack and
accept his offer of being there for her and the baby; no questions asked.

A Closer Look: Strange Behavior
Ashley, still acting strangely, approaches Nikki at Katherine and Murphy's
wedding to tell her that she knows that she wasn't the one that put Sabrina's
dress out for her to put on. Nikki, wondering what's going on with Ashley, later
tells Jack that he should keep an eye on his sister because her state of mind
isn't well, especially if it could be due to her living in Sabrina's shadow.
Meanwhile Jack confronts Victor about his sister and the two of themngs get into

[SOD]- Sharon dreams of Cassie

Sharon's dream of Cassie turns into a nightmare
This week, Sharon and Nick's late daughter, Cassie pays her mom a visit, which
means Camryn Grimes, whose alter ego died in 2005, is making a brief reprisal.
"It's always fun to see Camryn", gushes Sharon Case (Sharon). "She looks more
grown-up everytime I see her". The anniversary of Cassie's death is adding to
Sharon's stress. "That's really weighing on her mind", points out Case. "So,
Sharon falls asleep and has a dream about Cassie. They have a conversation with
each other and Cassie talks about a prophesy she made before she died that there
would be another little girl. That's really exciting to Sharon because she
always thought that she and Nick would have another baby, so maybe this
pregnancy means the baby is his. However, Cassie tells Sharon something else
that changes all of that, and it's very, very upsetting to her. This dream then
becomes a nightmare." Grimes will air on May 6.

Y&R Daytime Confidential Spoilers

http://www.daytimeconfidential.com/2009/04/the-young-and-the-restless-spoilers-5

Happy Thursday people! Some interesting developments are headed to The Young and
the Restless.

Sharon: Like we've been saying all along, Sharon is knocked up and doesn't know
who her baby daddy is! After she takes a pregnancy test due to feeling the
symptoms of being with child, Sharon finds out she's knocked up. At first she's
in shock and knows since her life is so screwed up she's in no position to have
a baby. The irony of Sharon's situation is that she was judging Phyllis a few
years ago when she became knocked up with Summer and didn't know who the father
was and now Sharon has taken her place. Sharon heads to the GCAC to contemplate
her current situation when she sees an unkempt Jack coming down the stairs and,
puts the pieces together and realizes that Jack slept with another woman. The
other woman is Mary Jane. In a funk, Sharon tells her mom about her pregnancy
and she also has to break down and tell her that its between three men. Sharon's
mom Doris has no clue about the trysts with Billy and her mom is not too happy
about this revelation.

Later on, Sharon goes to Restless Style to inform Nick about her pregnancy, but
Phyllis blocks her every move to speak with Nick. Sharon then decides to tell
Jack and just drops the bombshell on him. Jack's elated at being a father
because in his eyes he's going to have a child with the woman he loves and still
wants to be a father of Sharon's baby even if its not his child. Jack realizes
that this child can also be Nick's and tells Sharon he still wants to help her
with the baby. Sharon is very relieved and happy that Jack wants to help her and
asks for him to give her some time so she can weigh all of her options. Billy
stops by after Sharon leaves and Jack lets him know that Sharon is pregnant.
Billy goes mute because panic sets in and realizes that he can be the father. He
congratulates Jack and then heads off to find Sharon. Billy confronts Sharon
about her pregnancy and lets her know that if Chloe finds out about their tryst
and the baby possibly being his she'll freak out because Chloe is already crazy
when it comes to Billy. Bill does however, let Sharon know that if the child is
his he's not going to shy away from his responsibilities. Jack then walks in on
Billy and Sharon and Sharon covers for Billy.

Sharon decides she has to let Nick know about her pregnancy and she finds out
he's at the park with Summer and goes off to tell him. Right when she's about to
spill all to Nick, Summer falls down and injures herself. Nick and Sharon head
to the ER with her when Phyllis comes to the hospital. Big Red is not thrilled
to see Sharon there with Nick, but puts all that aside because she's too
concerned for Summer's well being. Sharon watches Nick and Phyllis together and
decides that she doesn't want to torpedo Nick's world and decides to keep mum
about her situation for a bit. She turns up at Jack's and takes him up on his
offer and also decides privately to herself that she wants to find out who
exactly is her unborn child's father down the line.

Nick: Decision time for the Newman heir. Does he stay with Newman or go back to
Restless Style full time.

Paul/Nikki: Old friends and lovers now a married couple? Starting to look that
way when when Paul pops the question to Nikki. What will Victor say about this?

Victor: He tells Nikki he's sorry. (Yeah I'm in shock too!)

Ashley: Ashley still reeling from wearing Sabrina's things from the night of her
accident, she confronts faithful Newman housekeeper Estella with being the one
that's playing the mind games with her. Ash shows Estella the picture of Sabrina
the night of the charity gala and the receipt of the items being purchased on
Ashley's credit card. Estella denies being the culprit, but Ashley still firmly
believes its her because Estella doesn't hide that she can't stand her. Later
on, Ashley comes across a cup of hot chocolate, the Koon's egg of Sabrina's and
an art catalog. Ashley is shocked and knows that someone is trying to scare her
and makes it appear that she's behind gathering Sabrina's things. When Victor
comes upon her, he is very concerned and starts to be worried that Ashley's
starting to crack. She insists to Victor that she's not behind the things being
left out and tells him that she thinks it's Estella.

Unfortunately for Ash, Victor doesn't think that its his housekeeper and this
pisses her off because he's not believing in her and is getting frustrated with
having to prove herself. Later on, Ashley and Adam are talking about the
occurrences and he brings up the fact that big sister Victoria has been hanging
out at ranch a bit and that she and Sabrina were tight. This makes Ashley wonder
if her ex-stepdaughter is the culprit. Things go from bad to worse for Ashley
when she has to go to court to testify against Gloria for the Jabot skin cream
tampering. She lets the judge know that due to Gloria's stupidity, the cream
burned Abby, caused friction between Ashley and Jack and also destroyed John's
reputation and life. Once Ashley's finishes testifying, Gloria shouts out that
she is in fact responsible and the judge sides with Jabot. Ashley makes a snide
comment about Gloria that she overhears. Gloria gets angry and confronts Ashley
on what she said and starts a shouting match with her. Ashley then fires back at
Gloria calling her a money grubbing bitch that kills the men she's married to.
Ashley then starts having abdominal pains and has to be taken to the hospital,
Ashley's baby is in grave danger. Sucks to be that slonkey when Victor hears she
triggered the attack on Ashley.

Gloria/Jeff/Jill: The motley crew are in big trouble.

Billy: He refuses to let Mac go.

Daniel: He works as a snitch for the FBI.

Casting News:

Nia Peeples: She returns onscreen when her character Karen serves Neil with
divorce papers the day before Cane and Lily's wedding.

Jerry Douglas: He returns as John Abbott's ghost on May 5.

Don Diamont Welcome to B&B May 2, '09 5:46 AM
by Patricia for group yrfans2

SOW Article - Don Diamont Welcome to B&B

Just four months after wrapping up 22 years,as Brad Carlton on the Young and the
Restless, Don Diamont is becoming B&B"s Bill Spencer Jr, and he couldn't be more
thrilled about his may 12th debut.
"Joining B&B is a Godsend," raves Diamont. "Getting that phone call from Brad
{Bell EP and HW} ...what can I say? it was one of the best feelings of my life
to hear Brad's voice on the other end of the phone...I had a voicemail from him
and it was, "hey Don,-Brad bell. Give me a call," recounts the actor. "That was
a wonderful moment, and I certainly had hoped he was calling because he had a
role for me. And that was indeed the case! he said, "There's a character I'd
like for you to play; let me describe him to you.' He went on to tell me about
Bill Spencer Jr although he makes it clear right off the bat that he is Bill not
"Bill Junior."

Another thing that clear about Bill right off the bat-he's not at all like Brad
carlton. "I'll tell you, this character is so dramatically different," exclaims
Diamont. "Not just in terms of who he is, but even in terms of his look. "My
hair is different.", "I have facial hair, he's a very trendy dresser, more of a
fashion forward guy. "He is politically incorrect.; he is sexually
inappropriate, he says anything and everything to anyone. he is completely
uncensored. he has no concern about how anybody will react to him, unless he's
trying to get a reaction. On one hand, he's pretty ruthless, but he's also
devilish in a charming way. I say he's sort of a combination of Jack Sparrow,
Johnny Depp's character from Pirates of the Carribbian; Richard Branson and a
couple of other people, I have in mind. and really fun to play."

But obviously, longtime B&B viewers know that Bill Spencer Sr didn't have a son,
right?

"They didn't know that he had a son," corrects Diamont, noting that Bill is sort
of an illegitimate son, and they didn't have a relationship at all until about
ten years before you see Bill. he did not have a close relationship{with his
father} but he did have a business relationship-bond even that relationship was
contentious," explains Diamont. "But its Bill Jr who has turned the publishing
company into what it is today. His influence was quite significant and, in the
last 10 years, he's really done some very positive things for the company. Now,
his Dad is gone and he's running the show-and taking no prisoners."
So watch out Forresters and Logans!

shoot, there's more.

Brad the NOT SO CAD?

His new B&B character Bill is a womanizer. but prepare to be surprised. Don
Diamont doesn't think that's a trait Bill shares with Y&R's Brad!

"Thats really kind of a misconception because Brad being a womanizer is actually
not true. "Brad was very committed to and loved Traci. it might not have been
the love of his life, although he intimated that just before he died. And then
there was Ashley, who he could not have been more committed to. With Victoria
they had more of a business connection than they really did a heart connection.
And then there's Sharon. This was not a guy who was out hitting on anything
that move More of a serial monogamist perhaps?
"For sure," affirms Diamont. "So, other than Lauren Fenmore relationship from
years back {that also made it on to B&B} and other than Sharon situation while
he was married to Victoria, that's been it."

Would Diamont venture to say that Brad's cad reputation is undeserved?
Yes."Thats because of that idiot jack Abbott shooting his mouth off." He laughs.
"Thats all that was about The reality is that brad wasn't Mr. Man about town.
Even with Sharon, those were very genuine feelings that he had for her. This guy
Bill, is completely, completely the opposite of that. COMPLETELY."

- A drunken Jill crashes Katherine and Murphy's wedding.
- Ashley is rushed to the hospital.
- Chloe stumbles upon a secret and has a surprising reaction.
- Sharon has a vision.

> Here are May Sweeps Scoops from SOD:
Victor/Ashley/Nikki: "Victor, Ashley and Nikki have a huge storyline which is
front and center, and it's going to revisit a lot of show history. Nikki and
Victor can never completely escape each other, but what I think is really
interesting about their relationship is we're not simply telling the same story
over and over."

Jack/Sharon/Nick/Phyllis: "We're turning the foursome upside down, but in terms
of who decides to be with whom and how this all plays out, all bets are off.
Phyllis's buttons have now been pushed and she's going to be unpredictable."

Kay/Jill: "There's the potential for fireworks, but the story is based on
emotions and the bond they share. It's going to be a fight for both of them as
to whether they continue with this relationship or not."

Weddings: "Of the weddings, I can tell you that Kay and Murphy are walking down
the aisle. We were all very interested in telling the story about finding love
late in life. The other big wedding is going to be a coming together of
characters who've known each other a very long time and are principal
characters. They've both had involvements with other people over the years, and
for them to find each other is going to be very satisfying. Again, it's a very
unexpected romance."

Adam/Victor: "We're going to continue to see more of the darkness that is within
Adam."

Mary Jane: "She has a very dark side. She is willing to pretty much go to any
length to get what she wants. But the complications and twists and fun in this
story are going to be about this very carefully crafted plan of Victor's going
awry."

Billy/Mac/Chloe: "He's torn between the drama of having a family with Chloe and
the draw of Mackenzie returning with new obstacles to keep them apart."

Kevin/Jana/Amber/Daniel/Gloria/Michael: "This story is about hope because Kevin
is a survivor and he continues to fight against the effects of this. His loved
ones rally around him. Jana's headaches are about the bond she and Kevin share,
but it's possible that there could be something more going on there than we
first thought."

Kidnapping and extortion schemes! Corporate takeovers! Continuing surrogate
drama! It's weeks like this when we thank our lucky stars for "As The World
Turns." But what, you may be asking, is in the cards for the next week in
Oakdale? Look no further!

Why for must you keep leaving us, actress Sarah Glendening? You came to "ATWT"
as Lucy back in December '08, then left in January '09, came back in February
... and now you're on your way out again! While we're sad to see ANYONE leave
Oakdale, at least we know they'll probably be leaving with a bang -- and with
Lucy, that's no exception. Y'know she's been involved in all of this crazy
smuggling business, right? Well next week, Lucy makes a seriously difficult
confession that may just be the reason she hightails it outta town. (Not to
mention the guilt she must feel for the situation she's put Craig in ... girl's
got a lot of learnin' to do!)

OMG, you guys -- this surrogate stuff is getting crazier by the minute. We can't
blame Henry for being perturbed; his reaction to Vienna paying off the "doctor"
(read: stand-up comedian, inexplicably) at the hospital wasn't surprising. And
of course Katie is noticing how attached Henry seems to be getting to the unborn
babe. Soon enough, though, Henry comes clean. To whom, and what comes from this
pronouncement, remains to be seen. We're sure Vienna won't be too happy about
it.

Sure, Damian is trying to ingratiate himself with both his son Luke and with his
foundation -- and sure, it seems like he's doing a good job -- but Lucinda isn't
so convinced, and she's already warned him not to come between Lily and Holden
(more than he already has, natch). Next week, Damian's big secret is revealed to
both Lucinda AND Holden. What are you up to now, Sir Grimaldi?

All this, PLUS: Meg gets PISSED at Dusty for ruining her scheme to keep Eliza
away from Paul. Is she getting increasingly unhinged, or is it just us?

Did you hear that former "ATWT" star Martha Byrne is joining the cast of
"General Hospital"? We can wait to see what shenanigans she gets into as the
Mayor's wife.

Craig has been arrested for his involvement in gun smuggling and Cesar's murder.
Craig informs Jack that Parker is his alibi but Jack refuses to believe it.
Parker admits to Jack that he was with Craig getting a check when the murder was
committed. Jack suggests the money could have been a payoff to get Parker to
co-operate and sends Parker home. Carly lays into Jack and exclaims to him that
he's letting his hatred for Craig interfere with his job as a cop. Jack insists
she's the one who's being blind. Craig realizes Carly believes him and asks her
to help him prove his theory that Dusty is setting him up in order to get
custody of Johnny. Carly replies that she'll try.

Meg explains to Paul that she's too sick to go to a doctor's appointment with
Eliza. Paul sees her showering and putting on perfume but she insists it's just
to make herself feel better. Paul calls from the hospital, but Meg doesn't
answer. Meg shows up at the Lakeview where she bumps into Dusty. They have an
intense moment and Meg borrows Dusty's hanky and keeps it. Back at home, Paul
sees her use the hanky and sees Dusty's initials. Paul informs Meg he's going to
Paris on business and asks her to come. Meg says she's too sick but insists on
making his reservations which she does. Meg asks Paul to lie down with her until
she falls asleep. Thinking she's asleep, Paul tiptoes out of her room and calls
to cancel his reservation as Meg listens on the extension in her room. Earlier,
Lucy sees Dusty having an intense moment with Meg. Lucy gets upset when Dusty
admits he still has feelings for Meg. Lucy runs out and Dusty follows, trying to
assuage her, but to no avail. Carly overhears their emotional discussion, and
then asks Lucy to help her prove Craig is innocent.

THE RUNDOWN
Henry finally comes clean.

Meg rails at Dusty for ruining her scheme.

Lucinda and Holden discover Damian's secret.

Lucy makes a difficult confession.

THE TRUTH REVEALED
Katie, Brad, Vienna, and Henry agree to a child birthing program, all for the
sake of the program. Katie asks Vienna not to include Henry since he seems to be
a little possessive of the unborn child. Henry finds out, though, and rushes to
the hospital. Katie lets him hold the BotBaby, a doll that simulates a baby, but
Henry runs off with it. While Katie freaks out, Vienna finds Henry at home where
he finally tells her that he wants to keep their child. Vienna insists it's too
late and they head to Brad and Katie's to apologize for Henry's behavior.
However, Brad and Katie have received the real results from the genetics test
and are livid. Although Henry and Vienna profusely apologize, Brad and Katie
tell them that they no longer want the child and never want to see them again.

OAKDALE HAPPENINGS
Craig uses Parker as his alibi but when Parker reveals the money Craig was
giving him at the time of Cesar's murder; Jack believes it was bribe money for
Parker to keep quiet. Carly scolds Jack for letting his hatred for Craig cloud
his judgment. Later, Carly agrees to help Craig prove Dusty has set him up so he
can get custody of Johnny. Holden, Luke, and Noah run into Lily in New York
while at a Cubs game. Lily reveals she came with Damian for business and
Holden's miffed. Lily explains that they came on behalf of Luke's foundation and
both Holden and Luke seem pleased...for the time being. Meg's plan to make Paul
act out in jealousy (and in turn, return custody of Eliza to her) backfires when
a protective Dusty spills all to Paul, warning him not to touch Meg. Later, Meg
makes baby steps towards Paul trusting her again and later, lashes out at Dusty
for possibly ruining everything.

« Thread Started Yesterday at 11:47pm » [Quote]
There was some exciting "Guiding Light" casting news this week, with a familiar
daytime face coming to Springfield and a popular couple making their return.
BethAnn Bonner played Talia on "One Life to Live" before she met her demise at
the hands of a serial killer -- but now she's been resurrected and will play
opposite Cyrus (Murray Bartlett) on "Light." Look for her to start sometime in
June. She'll be joining Paul Anthony Stewart and Nancy St. Alban, who were last
seen on "GL" in 2005 and who'll be returning as Danny and Michelle!

Grant Aleksander (Phillip), Jeff Branson (Shayne), John Driscoll (ex-Coop),
Michael O'Leary (Rick), and Caitlin Van Zandt (Ashlee) will all be in South
Florida this weekend at the 11th Annual SoapFest. They'll sign autographs and
tag along on boat cruises with fans. If you're anywhere near South FLA, this
could be a lot of fun!

And with that, let's get to the next week's juicy "Light" stuff:

Who doesn't like surprise gifts? Maybe a loved one wants to let you know they're
thinking of you, maybe a good friend just saying hello ... or maybe IT'S EDMUND
SENDING YOU SOMETHING CREEPY. That's what's happening next week when Reva
receives a suspicious gift from who we're assuming is Edmund. We know it's not a
Malibu Barbie so we're really intrigued.

Now that a little of the air has cleared from Wedding, Interrupted, look for
Natalia and Olivia to finally enjoy a weekend together -- that is, unless a
spurned Frank doesn't tag along as an uninvited third party.

Next week, Dinah and Shayne get the truth about baby Henry -- specifically, that
he's Shayne's son. It's anybody's guess how they'll react and what the Bosnian
baby fallout will be.

Look for Phillip to come home from Ravenwood this week, with the help of Lizzie
and James (who, strangely, is really well connected). We wonder how he was
affected by his stay in the home for Springfield crazies. As he tries to move on
with his life, will he carry any residual trauma?

SOD Article - In Defense Of Change
« Thread Started on Apr 30, 2009, 4:33pm » [Quote]
IN DEFENSE OF CHANGE, by Susan Flannery

Our community is a small one.We should honor and respect one another's artistry
and hard work. Times, they are a changing…..Technology, in part, has reduced the
size of our viewing audience, as has economics, etc. etc.

[GL] Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler, TeleNext, her staff, her outstanding
talented cast, crew, and writers nudged the soap opera genre off its axis by a
point or two. And that's a good thing.

They broke the mold with new camera technology, removing the dinosaur pedestals
that are still in our studios from the '50s. Filming small, everyday scenes that
created in the audience's mind a real town, a real place and anchored the
stories in a genuine reality. Innovative camera work and editing brought a
different dynamic. Music sues that include the lyrics of a song under the scenes
emphasize the emotions and heighten them.

This might be standard in nighttime TV. But that is what Ellen understood. Our
audience want our shows to look more like nighttime. And within their budget
constraints, I believe that GL accomplished this.

Desperate times in the world of television do call for innovation and change.
CBS and P&G should be proud that they were willing to take the gamble with
Guiding Light.

Irna Phillips, the grande dame of soaps, would have been the first to grasp
these fresh ideas. She was a genuine innovator and would have understood that
change is the only constant.

Seventy-two years is a helluva run. Everyone one of you [at GL] should be proud
of your work and your artistry.

Kudos.

Jess Walton Sets the Record Straight, Part 1
« Thread Started Yesterday at 11:51pm » [Quote]
There was a weekend last month when Jess Walton was no longer Jill Abbott.
Different magazines reported various reasons for her leaving, as well as for her
change of heart. One outlet printed that after Jess "discussed the matter with a
beloved The Young and the Restless co-star, she and the show hammered out a new
deal."

Jess wants to set the record straight, stating: "It had nothing to do with my
co-stars. It had to do with my family and this economy. I felt so bad that so
many people have lost their jobs, that all of a sudden I thought: `This is
really silly. I have a wonderful job, and I really think I owe it to myself and
my family to continue on.'

"But I really was off and done. I really did come back in that one weekend. I am
very fond of Maria (Bell, co-headwriter) and the Bell family. I am very fond of
my co-stars and the crew. But, ultimately, it was a decision between my family
and me, and had nothing to do with anyone at work."

Another big piece of news happened around the same time: the cancellation of
long-running soap-opera mainstay Guiding Light. When Jess and the rest of the
Y&R cast found out, she reveals: "We were shocked. I was walking down the hall,
and Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) asked: `Did you hear? Guiding Light just got
canceled.' The first thought that came to mind was gratitude that we are still
on and that our show is still going strong, and we have a really nice place to
work. We get along so well and we laugh all the time; it's really, really nice
working there."

Aside from monetary or economic reasons, Jess has an even better reason for
further exploring the character of Jill: "I have to say that the turn the
character is taking (finding out she is not Katherine Chancellor's daughter) is
really intriguing to me. This came up right before the negotiations. It's kind
of hard to say goodbye to her when she is just turning a corner and becoming all
feisty again."

Dedicated viewers know the reason behind her feistiness: Jill is reeling from
the news that she is not Katherine's daughter. Jess recalls when she first
realized something was fishy.

"As I was reading the scripts, I was thinking, `Who's screwing with the DNA?'
Then I realized, no one is screwing with the DNA; the DNA isn't matching. I am
very excited about the new story line. I am always glad when there's a big
change."

Although Jess is grateful for the new angle to her relationship with Jill, she
admits: "I very much liked the fact that they were mother and daughter. I just
don't know that it was ever handled right. I just thought that we'd been playing
one thing for so long that the new direction would have to add something
interesting, it would add other dimensions, instead of just `You old cow!' and
`You tramp!'"

Now that these old rivals are no longer related, Jess is anxious to see where
this will lead them. "We've now had 32 years of a feud, and I don't know how
long you can just flat-out play that. With this new discovery, we've had a whole
new change-up, and we could play off this. Now we can come back to the feud with
renewed vigor, with fresh eyes."

Check back next week as Jess discusses the emotional impact of this revelation
on Jill, and the new Jill we can expect to see.

You guys -- we're really glad Kevin beat the chipmunk and everything, but we'd
be lying if we said we weren't going to miss that little critter. Thank
goodness, there's all kinds of drama in store for next week's "The Young and the
Restless" -- we're going to need some distraction from our sadness. R.I.P.,
Fluffyhead.

Find out what's on tap for "Y&R," below!

Jill's looking to keep her reputation as Genoa City's top wedding crasher, but
Nina's made things difficult by tossing her in a closet. Can a drunk, trapped
Jill get out in time disrupt Kay and Murphy's "I dos"? Does the pope wear a
funny hat?

Meanwhile, Billy's looking to wreck a marriage the old fashioned way, with his
ex who was his cousin but isn't really his cousin, Mac. When wife Chloe sees the
two getting close, her reaction isn't quite what we'd expect. Let's just say --
if recent events are any indication, it's not how PHYLLIS would handle it. Which
is a bummer, honestly. Lady's got style.

Speaking of Phyllis, her relationship with Nick looks to get more strained when
Victor offers him Neil's old job at Newman. If he goes there, he'll have to deal
with his father's impossible expectations. Plus it'll be so much harder for
Phyllis to keep an eye on his every move!

Apparently someone's opened a portal to the netherworld in GC, as shoplifting
Sharon gets a visit from the ghost of daughters past. Cassie (played by Camryn
Grimes) comes to her mom with some advice from beyond. And Billy gets a
supernatural check-in of his own, from papa John (ha!).

Finally -- pregnant Ashley is rushed to the hospital. We hope everything's ok!

Daytime Confidential Spoilers
« Thread Started on May 1, 2009, 7:21pm » [Quote]
From Daytime Confidential

Some interesting developments are headed to The Young and the Restless.

Ashley then fires back at
Gloria calling her a money grubbing pregnant dog that kills the men she's
married to. Ashley then starts having abdominal pains and has to be taken to the
hospital, Ashley's baby is in grave danger. Sucks to be that slonkey when Victor
hears she triggered the attack on Ashley.

Ana sings as Kay walks down the aisle. Inside the dining room, Paul runs into
Mary Jane and recognizes her but Mary Jane rushes outside to the ceremony before
he can find out any more. Meanwhile, Nina rushes after Jill, who is adamant
about being apart of Kay's ceremony. However, Lauren finds Jill bound and gagged
in the coat closet. Later, Jill starts to make a commotion but Cane asks to
behave and she does just that, allowing the ceremony to continue. As Kay and
Murphy exchange vows, Mac and Billy remember their own wedding. Jill finally
loses her control in front of everyone and her pain of losing Kay comes spilling
out. Billy and Cane have to drag her from the house when she starts insulting
both Kay and Murphy. Later, at the G.C.A.C. Jill admits that she wants a real
relationship with Kay and Billy.

After the ceremony, Victor offers a toast to the happy bride and groom; however,
he feels betrayed when he learns that Neil took over as C.E.O. at Chancellor.
Meanwhile, Kay informs Michael that she is going to talk to the Governor on
Amber and Kevin's behalf. Nearby, Nikki explains to Jack about what has been
going on with Ashley lately, and warns him that she believes that Ashley could
be doing it to herself. At Ashley's request, Victor apologizes to Nikki for
jumping to conclusions about setting Ashley up with Sabrina's gown. Later, as
Murphy and Kay are going upstairs, Kay tosses her bouquet and Nikki catches it.
Jack goes to check on Mary Jane, after she left the wedding reception in a
hurry. Meanwhile, alone at the bar, Jill hits on the bartender and slips him her
room key.

Billy returns to the Chancellor mansion and finds Mac alone. Billy asks her to
dance and they talk about their wedding. Billy stops Mac and kisses her, just as
Chloe arrives. Mac breaks from Billy's kiss and slaps him hard before walking
off. Chloe comes out of the shadows and instead of going off on Billy she just
takes him by the hand and leads him home.

Life if asked. Barr would make an ideal Melinda Cramer, don't you think?

• Did you miss CBS VP's Barbara Bloom's BFF Julie Hanan Carruthers, AMC's
executive producer, on ABC's Nightline yesterday in their report, "Soaps On The
Ropes"? Looks like someone has purchased an at-home tanning booth, or has been
applying way too much bronzer instead of, you know, asking Chuck Pratt for
rewrites.

Another World, anotherworldtoday.com — What fun — Fans choose their own
adventures!
• Author Alina Adams is currently writing a painfully bad Another World update
online. The popular soap opera, which was cancelled by NBC 10 years ago, is
enjoying a rebirth on Hulu.com (despite the fact that the soap apparently didn't
even register enough viewers for the Nielsen Ratings to track the serial when it
re-aired on SOAPnet) prompting TeleNext to pick up the series 10 years later in
a blog format. "The renewed success of AW online is a testament to the show's
enduring appeal. The audience is engaged with these characters today as they
were during the show's impressive 35-year run," said "genius" show-killer Brian
T. Cahill, TeleNext's senior VP and managing director.

Adams penned TeleNext novels Oakdale Confidential and The Man From Oakdale,
which suggests the company is testing the waters before committing to publishing
an Another World novel in the future. Me? Let's leave the Bay City legacy as it
stood when it left the airwaves — unless, of course, Harding Lemay is entrusted
with the iconic characters we all fell in love with and not the same people who
helped destroy the show.

And shame on Soap Opera Weekly for their misleading cover headline in this
week's issue: "Another World returns." Seriously? It appears Weekly is taking a
page out of Soaps In Depth's book.

As The World Turns, Global/CBS — Is Hansis planning on leaving Oakdale?
• Everyone's making a big fuss over newcomer Evan Alex Cole, who debuted on the
CBS serial on April 30 as Emily's new cub, computer geek Hunter.
Welovesoaps.com's Roger Newcomb interviews the actor here.

• Should Nuke fans be worried about losing Luke Snyder? Van Hansis (Luke)
recently told The Suds Report he's been busy auditioning for roles in
independent films and nighttime shows. "I was even up for roles on Gossip Girl
and [new NBC series] Kings," reveals the Daytime Emmy-nominated superstar. "But
I'm not planning on leaving World Turns just yet. It's good to keep your options
open. I have outs in my contract." Very smart, Van, considering World Turns may
only be spinning for one more year.

The Bold and the Beautiful, CTV/CBS — Susan Flannery defends Ellen Wheeler!
• Four-time Emmy-winning vet Susan Flannery (Stephanie) asks soap fans to
applaud the efforts of GL executive producer Ellen Wheeler in a one-page missive
in this week's Soap Opera Digest — despite the 72-year-old soap's historic
cancellation.

The acting icon wrote, "Wheeler, TeleNext, her staff, her outstandingly talented
cast, crew and writers nudged the soap opera genre off its axis by a point or
two. And that's a good thing. They broke the mold with new camera technology,
removing the dinosaur pedestals that are still in our studios from the `50s.
Filming small, everyday scenes outdoors that created, in the audience's mind, a
real town, a real place and anchored the stories in a genuine reality.
Innovative camera work and editing brought a different dynamic. Music cues that
include the lyrics of a song under the scene emphasize the emotions and heighten
them."

She adds, "This might be standard in nighttime TV. But that is what Ellen
understood. Our audiences want our shows to look more like nighttime. And within
their budget constraints, I believe that GL accomplished this. Desperate times
in the world of television do call for innovation and change. Irna Phillips, the
grande dame of soaps, would have been the first to grasp these fresh ideas. Se
was a genuine innovator and would have understood that change is the only
constant."

With all due respect to La Flannery, critics and fans tuned out in droves almost
immediately (by 25 per cent, which can hardly be considered a success), not
because of their amateurish production model but because Wheeler threw out the
baby with the bath water by refusing to write soapy stories. Phillips was a
storyteller, and she would have been appalled to see the soap she created
telling "stories" that centred around Reva opening a bag of potato chips,
incestuous cousins falling in love, and murderers getting away with killing
legacy characters as their central plots.

Phillips was a traditional storyteller, not a desperate, inexperienced producer
and director like Wheeler. To compare Wheeler and Phillips would be like saying
George Bush and Barack Obama are similar in their presidential styles and
agendas. Just because Phillips saw television as a new opportunity hardly makes
her a technical innovator. Back then, her soaps were successful despite low
production qualities because of one factor and one factor only: riveting
storytelling.

Also, correct me if I am wrong but I have never heard soap fans demanding
daytime mimic nighttime television aesthetically. Years ago, ratings nosedived
when Sunset Beach attempted a video-to-film transfer, and AMC tried out a
hand-held/steady-cam camera experiment.

Viewers may have demanded that storylines be more realistic, minority-friendly,
and character-driven like the prime-time soaps they enjoy, but no one is craving
daytime to look like a college version of The Hills with cheesy folk music. The
way to "emphasize emotions and heighten them" is through well-written,
character-driven storytelling and acting. Period.

Moreover, GL never recovered from losing fan favourites Beth Ehlers (ex-Harley,
now Taylor, AMC), Ricky Paull Goldin (ex-Gus, now Jake, AMC), and Laura Wright
(ex-Cassie, now Carly, GH). The aforementioned stars all quit GL because Wheeler
allegedly treated them like garbage. It's called mismanagement. When is Wheeler
going to take responsibility for destroying the oldest show on TV? Soon, I hope,
because that's karma knocking on her door.

Days of our Lives, Global/NBC — Sorry, EJ: Sami and Rafe make love!
• Rami fans, rejoice: On May 19, Sami and Rafe make love. Thankfully, there was
no rape involved in the taping of this sex scene. The fledgling couple also
admit they love each other.

Meanwhile, Sweeney admits to Digest's Stephanie Sloane in a feature interview
that she was upset Sami didn't get a farewell with John and Marlena when Drake
Hogestyn and Deidre Hall were fired from the sudser. Sweeney shares, "It felt
very unfinished to me. I made an effort to talk to Dee and Drake myself and sent
them a letter because I wanted to put pen to paper to let them know what they
meant to me, to thank them for everything and tell them what amazing people they
are, but I feel like it never could have been enough. It was so hard." Yeah, we
know, Ali, we know.

• Digest is reporting that Jon Prescott (ex-Mike, World Turns) has tested for a
role of a new doctor, who may turn out to be a Horton. The Suds Report always
liked the talented actor, and thought Prescott's potential was never fully
realized after World Turns fired the promising newcomer after less than a year
on the soap.

• Rachel Melvin (Chelsea) leaves Salem next week. The Daytime Emmy-nominated
ingénue tells Digest that she won't miss Dena Higley and Chris Whitesell's dodgy
writing. She elaborates in one hell of a run-on sentence: "I won't miss the
characterization, which comes with any show that's on any day. No one is to
blame. The most frustrating thing for me was trying to justify things that my
character would say and do one day, and then change and do the other way with
just as much conviction, but no addressing the fact that she's being a total
hypocrite. It was really, really frustrating."

Melvin refutes online speculation she's auditioning for other soap work (she's
been mentioned as a possible Kristina recast on GH), claiming, "My plan is for a
year, to stray from the soap path. I need to explore other options."

Daytimeconfidential.com, iTunes — Happy 400th!
• The hilarious and oh-so-naughty DC gang celebrated their 400th episode
recently. Click here to listen to this week's on-point broadcasts. Jillian Bowe
made me laugh out loud when she nicknamed World Turns head writer Jean
Passanante, Jean Pass-the-salami! Slap knee here.

General Hospital, CTV/ABC — Byrne, Martha, Byrne!
• GH Emmy-winning cast director Mark Teschner may just return to TV Guide
Canada's 3rd annual Power List this year if he keeps this up: The ABC sudser
welcomes Emmy winner Martha Byrne (ex-Lily, World Turns) in the recurring role
of Andrea Floyd, the wife of Mayor Floyd (played by oh-so-sexy former P&G actor
John Bolger).

Byrne, whose mentor and friend, the late, great Douglas Marland wrote for GH
during its heyday, tells The Suds Report, "I'll be involved in a political
scandal involving the hospital. I'm thrilled to be working on GH. I've been
watching the show daily and it's clear that the cast is extremely talented and
hard-working. I can't wait to dig in to my first script and bring this character
to life." Memo to GH actors: you better raise your A-game around La Byrne,
because you have all been phoning it in lately. Byrne is chomping at the bit to
dig her teeth into a juicy role and act her big heart out after being MIA from
TV for over a year.

Speculation is that the ratings-challenged GH hired the popular superstar to
attract new viewers. Smart move. All together now: take that, World Turns; and,
oh yeah, suck on that, Christopher Goutman.

FYI: Byrne will continue to freelance as a script writer for B&B.

• According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, hair model Rick
Springfield (ex-Noah Drake) will attempt to play himself on Californication for
four episodes. Good luck with that.

• Emmy winner Anthony Geary (Luke), the president and sole member of The
Official Nathan Parsons' (Ethan) Fan Club, is pre-taping episodes to prepare for
his annual Amsterdam vacation.

• GH would be wise to reunite Jason and Liz, considering a record-breaking
200,000-plus fans voted in last week's TVGuide.ca poll demanding Liason tie the
knot. The ABC soap can't afford to piss off any more fans: Last week, AMC beat
GH in the ratings again! In fact, Port Chuck lost a whopping 265,000 viewers —
their lowest ratings in total viewers yet. GH clocked in with a depressing and
measly 2,360,000 viewers. Here's a new strategy: Listen to your fans and give
them what they want. Just saying.

Guiding Light, Global/CBS — Holy soap returns, Ellen Wheeler!
• Yikes — this will make CBS honcho Babs Bloom smile: For the week of April
20-24, the cancelled soap earned their lowest ratings ever. Less than two
million total viewers (1,969,000, to be exact) tuned in to see the aftermath of
Natalia admitting her love for Olivia. Hopefully, Lifetime doesn't read the
Nielsen Ratings.

• So much for recasting Michelle Bauer! The boring Nancy St. Alban will reprise
the role of Danny Santos' wife in late May. When GL was testing actresses a few
months ago, the sides suggested that Michelle returned to town sans Danny who
had been apparently kidnapped. At the time, the soap was going to romantically
pair childhood pals Michelle and Bill. Clearly, the show changed its game plan
in light of their recent cancellation.

Meanwhile, Daytimeconfidential.com is reporting that Peter Simon (ex-Ed),
Maureen Garrett (ex-Holly), and Rick Hearst (ex-Alan-Michael; soon-to-be-ex-Ric
on GH) are in negotiations to return.

However, GL spokesperson Alan Locher was unable to confirm the comebacks,
stating, "With the show coming to an end on CBS, it isn't unexpected that some
returns will happen."

And here's some more good news: The Suds Report has learned that Emmy winner
Jerry Ver Dorn (ex-Ross; now Clint, One Life) is telling friends and co-workers
he'd love to return to GL for its last show if ABC gives him the green light.

• The Suds Report has also learned that a major character will be resurrected
for its final episode. Buzz is the popular character will be either Ross and/or
Maureen!

• Expect a big mystery to engulf Springfield this summer, reports Digest.

• Hair model extraordinaire Caitlin Van Zandt (Ashlee) makes a shocking claim to
Soap Opera Digest: she, not the writers, is responsible for breakout
super-couple Otalia. "Jessica Leccia [Natalia] and I would joke that we should
be the new super-couple. But they kind of took our idea [with Otalia]. I [also]
thought Doris had to be a lesbian." Well, aren't you a smart cookie, Caitlin.

One Life To Live, A/ABC — Major letdown: Powell and Rebecca unmasked as the
serial killers!
• Zzzz: Next week, the K.A.D. serial killers are revealed to be Powell and
Rebecca. Question is: does anyone still care? And here's more bad news: our
moles are reporting the show only gets worse in May and June.

• Who else needed to take an icy cold shower after watching Florencia Lozano and
Trevor St. John's sizzling courtroom sex scenes this past week as Téa and Todd?
I've never wanted to be a gavel more in my life.

• At the risk of sounding like Jennifer Aniston, I have to wonder if head writer
Ron Carlivati is missing a sensitivity chip. If last year's obscene rapemance
wasn't enough to contend with, the Emmy winner recently penned a scene in which
Marty visits her rapist, Powell Lord, in a mental institution. In the story,
Marty pretended to be Powell's cousin, Jessica, in an effort to find out if the
lunatic could be the K.A.D killer. Marty, as Jessica, informed the nurse that
she wanted to apologize to Powell for not visiting him sooner. Really?
Seriously? Why is Marty put in these horrific situations where she has to
seemingly pretend or unknowingly defend the men who violently raped her? It's
beyond offensive. There is no way a rape victim would ever want to visit her
rapist, let alone utter the words that she's related to the monster, no matter
what the intention is. Puke. One Life should be ashamed of themselves for
ruining one of the greatest storylines in daytime history. Stop messing with
Michael Malone's artistry. Here's an idea: why not come up with an original idea
of your own for once? Sadly, as a result, the character of Marty has been
destroyed. She's simply unrecognizable. And that's the real tragedy here.

• According to EW.com, Ugly Betty's Tony Plana is telling people his wife, Ada
Maris, has been cast on One Life in an undisclosed role. Hopefully her last name
isn't Montez.

• Is it too late to keep A Martinez (Ray)? I've fallen head-over-heels in love
with Dorian and Ray.

Soapoperaweekly.com — Remember the days when GL actually graced the covers of
SPW?
• Which GL magazine cover did former editor Mimi Torchin pick in Soap Opera
Weekly's 20th anniversary celebration poll? She tells the Suds Report, "I picked
the `I Surrender' cover with Michael Zaslow (ex-Roger) and Maureen Garrett
(ex-Holly). I had to fight for that cover because no one thought the artistic
black-and-white close-up would sell. In the end, my instincts were right because
it turned out to be a big seller." That's my Meems!

The Young and the Restless, Global/CBS — That slut Sharon is having a baby!
• Count Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru) as one of Sharon Case's (Sharon) many fans and
admirers. The actress-turned-author applauds Sharon Case's recent performances
as Sharon loses her marbles, telling The Suds Report that, "No one knows how to
work a soap better than Sharon Case. Rock on!" Ditto that business.

Meanwhile, in story news, Sharon learns she's preggers again! Problem is she
doesn't know who the daddy is. Possible sperm donors include Jack, Nick, Billy,
and Barbara Bloom. Luckily, Jack offers to raise the child with Sharon and claim
the mini-klepto as his own, not realizing he could be raising his own nephew.
Me? I have a feeling that, down the road, it will be revealed that Summer is
Jack's child, and Sharon's unborn child will be Nick's. Got that?

• More returns: Nia Peeples returns as Karen on May 14 to help wrap up her
storyline. Also, Jerry Douglas is back as John's ghost on May 5.

• If you're a fan of Tom Casiello's writing — and really, who isn't? — the Emmy
winner's latest episodes are scheduled to air on May 1, 2, 20, 25 and June 5!
Party at my house.

• Don't miss my entertaining Adrienne Frantz interview next week in which we
discuss the possibility of Andrea Evans returning to Y&R as Amber's trailer-park
mom, Tawny, not Patty, and whether or not Sean Kanan will be joining her in
Genoa City as Deacon Sharpe.

• Great casting news: Daytimeconfidential.com broke exclusive news that fired GL
heartthrob John Driscoll (ex-Coop) has executive producer Ellen Wheeler to thank
for his recent good fortune: The actor will be assuming the role of Phillip
Chancellor IV on daytime's No. 1 sudser. Driscoll begins taping this month, and
is expected to air sometime this summer. DC reports that Driscoll's audition was
so impressive that Y&R's casting director was reduced to tears. Driscoll
probably nailed it because he was happy to be acting on a real soap set!

SOAP OPERA DIGEST INSIDER

April 30, 2009

Greetings From The Editor
Lynn Leahey

Dear Readers,
Response to the cancellation of GUIDING LIGHT has ranged from sad to angry
to resigned. Digest has printed numerous letters from fans expressing
their appreciation for the show, and disappointment about its ending. In
your new issue you'll find a letter from B&B's Susan Flannery reminding us
that in recent years, GL "broke the mold" with innovative camera work,
editing and music, and applauds the show for "removing the dinosaur
pedestals that are still in our studios from the '50s." True words from a
lady who knows what she's talking about -- see what else she has to say in
the Late-Breaking News section.

TALES FROM THE INTERVIEW

Stephanie Sloane: I had the pleasure of speaking to not one, but two
actresses for our Mother's Day Issue. The first was ATWT's Kelley Menighan
Hensley (Emily), who talked about life with hubby Jon Hensley (Holden) and
their three kids, Sophie May, 10, Spencer, 7 and Gigi, almost 2. Kelley
had the day off and was taking Sophie May shopping later that day, which
was a big deal. "Up until like a week ago, she was 100% tomboy and would
wear shorts down to her knees and big baggy shirts," the actress
explained. "Literally overnight, she's wearing leggings and boots and
tight little T-shirts from my closet and she pulled her hair back with
headbands. She's totally hitting that stride of becoming a grown-up little
girl. She's growing up before my eyes. I'm excited to take her out and
introduce her to shorts that go above your knees!" Kelley also talked
honestly about Emily's lack of screen time, noting, "Yes, there are budget
cuts and you can only work so many actors at a time. You only have so many
stories at a time, just based on what the writers are able to do with
fewer writers on top of that, so I try not to take it personally. I try to
just keep my head about myself." For her full story, check out the next
issue.

I also spoke to DAYS's Alison Sweeney (Sami), who welcomed a daughter,
Megan, in January. Son, Ben, is 4, and when I asked if they were similar
as babies, Ali admitted that she couldn't really compare them. "It's been
4 years!" she laughed. "You forget all the really hard parts; otherwise,
you would never do it again. They are both very similar in that they're
both happy babies. There are moments with Megan where I'm like, 'Oh yeah,
I remember this with Ben.' She doesn't cry a lot. She smiles all the time
and sleeps really well. She's adorable. I think she looks a lot like him,
but in a feminine way. I'm sure I'm totally biased, but I see that they
resemble each other tremendously." Ali also talked about her new co-star,
Galen Gering (Rafe; ex-Luis, PASSIONS), noting, "It's weird because we've
known each other for 9 years because we started as friends through NBC
events and knew each other that way and now we're in a storyline together.
So, we've had some 'getting to know each other again' type time and that
worked out nicely in the safe house scenario. Not unlike the characters,
Galen and I got to know each other and built a bond and a friendship and a
working relationship before it became intimate for the characters. It's
been great. He's a really nice guy and I think he's a good actor and we
have a good time." She also talks about working two jobs, having a
teenaged son on-screen and what it was like to say good-bye to Deidre Hall
(ex-Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (ex-John). For all that and more, be sure
to check out the next issue of Digest.

Tom Stacy: As you'll see in the new issue of Digest, motherhood has
changed Rebecca Herbst's (Elizabeth) life for the better -- but sometimes
it great to sneak in a little R&R time, too. This past weekend, Becky and
husband Michael Saucedo [ex-Juan, GH] joined a gaggle of ABC daytime stars
to attend the Stagecoach Music Festival in Palm Springs, CA, and for a
country fan like Herbst, it was sheer heaven. "Stage Coach was such a fun
experience!" she raves. "Being a country fan, getting to introduce Kenny
Chesney was a moment I will never forget. The music was awesome and the
fans were just as excited to see people from their favorite ABC soaps as
they were to see the country stars!" Herbst had better treasure the memory
for as you'll see in the new Digest, life in the Herbst/Saucedo residence
is nothing short of chaotic bliss at its finest. Happy Mother's Day,
y'all!

CAMPAIGN TRAIL
You gotta love soap fans' creativity -- Digest regularly receives doodads
and goodies from readers who know how to make a statement.

Vera Hadzi-Antich: This is my favorite campaign yet! The Y&R Billy and
Chloe fans sent in a message saying they are worried about why their
favorite couple is struggling. They write, "After much consideration and
deliberation, we have reached the conclusion that [Billy] must have a
heart defect." So, the campaigners solution.... they raised $100 for the
American Heart Association and sent us nuts and oatmeal, heart-healthy
food, in hopes of curing Billy's heart defect. Very creative, and I love
that the money is going to a great cause!

Some very dedicated GH fans sent in birthday candles for Jake Morgan, who
turns 2 years old on May 4th. Along with the candles, is a picture of a
cupcake and the "wish" from Jake that "his mom, real dad and brother [will
live] under one roof." Aidan and Greenlee campaigners sent in a pic of the
duo during the ABC Super Soap Weekend at Disney World. They wrote the
message, "We're Goofy for Ailee!!!"

GH's Robin supporters sent in a close-up shot of Kimberly McCullough and
the simple message "Hope..." They haven't given up in Robin's fight
against postpartum depression. DAYS's James Scott campaigners wrote a
message to DAYS saying "thank you for keeping this man."

Thanks for the campaigns!

TYPE SET

What great scenes Chloe and Billy have been having lately! When Chloe was
dragging Billy out of Jimmy's Bar, I couldn't stop laughing. Billy Miller
and Elizabeth Hendrickson's comedic timing is spot-on. It doesn't hurt
that they have tremendous romantic chemistry as well. Mark my words --
they could be Y&R's next big couple. Too bad they're being forced into an
unoriginal and artificial love triangle. Here's to hoping that the Maria
Arena Bell and Co. realize the talent that they've got! --Kelsey, Illinois

Answer Below

ASK US

Answers to your burning questions.

Q. Please tell us who played Ross Marler on GUIDING LIGHT and what
happened to him? J.M., via the Internet

A. That's an easy one! Soap vet Jerry verDorn played the role of
Springfield politico and Blake's beloved husband Ross from 1979 to 2005.
In June 2005, the actor was bumped to recurring status. Four months later,
he snagged the role of OLTL's Clint Buchanan, where he's been ever since.
As for Ross, he was presumed dead in 2006 following a plane crash and has
not been on-screen since.

INSIDER POLL

Have your say in our exclusive subscriber-only poll.

Last week, we asked: Y&R's Nick has cheated on Phyllis twice with Sharon,
who he was once married to and also cheated on. In soaps, once someone has
cheated, do they lose all credibility as a faithful spouse?

You said:

Yes. Once a cheater ... always a cheater, but it definitely makes for an
entertaining show!: 61%

No. I always give them a second chance, but I'm not surprised if it
happens again!: 39%

Here's this week's question:

In this week's campaign trail, we received birthday candles for Jake
Morgan's 2nd birthday on GH. Do you know your favorite soap character's
birthday?

Yes. It's fun to see how the writers incorporate the special day each
year.

No. I don't keep track of that kind of stuff.

3. Considering the state of his marriage to Phyllis, maybe YOUNG AND
RESTLESS' Nick should install a revolving door on the tack house.

4. Brody and Jessica have all the makings of a ONE LIFE TO LIVE
supercouple. Nash who?

5. GENERAL HOSPITAL's Matt is a young, hot, successful doctor and he needs
cute niece Emma to help him pick up women? Does not compute!

6. Can AS THE WORLD TURNS' entitled Parker stop buying sports cars and
giving his sister cash long enough to peel off some dough for an attitude
adjustment?

7. GH's Carly and Jax should watch tapes of GUIDING LIGHT's Reva and
Jeffrey for inspiration. She just delivered a baby despite battling
cancer!

8. AMC viewers now know how Hugh Jackman got that "Sexiest Man Alive"
title -- Ryan declined it!

9. Will GH rethink those stairs after Robin's accident with Emma?

10. ATWT's Intruder is going digital, to distribute news and information
instantly over the Internet? That's just crazy enough to work...

WHY WE CLAPPED

Crystal Chappell's performance when GUIDING LIGHT's Olivia confessed her
love for Natalia was one of those rare moments when an actor crystallizes
her character's feelings so remarkably that the viewer is left
simultaneously heartbroken and breathless. Chappell packed so much raw
pain and hope into what appeared to be a simple declaration -- "I'm in
love with you!" -- that we in the Weekly offices were left stunned and
heartsick at the prospect that Liv might be left out in the cold. Chappell
earned Applause, Applause kudos for Issue 19 by acclamation!

LISTENING STATION

--David Cook's hit single "Light On" played on April 30 while Casey, Ali
and Jade were at Yo's. Then Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody" accompanied
Ali confronting Hunter.

Are you a music aficionado? Can you recognize an obscure ditty at 0.5
measures? Listening Station would be happy to take contributions. Feel
free to e-mail the song, artist, show and date to
mala@..., along with your name so we can give you proper
credit for your mad musical skills.

NIGHTWATCH

--From Senior Writer/Editor Joe Diliberto: BREAKING BAD is like watching a
car wreck in slow motion: You can sense what's going to happen, you know
it's going to be horrible...and you absolutely cannot look away! From the
moment he appeared onscreen, I knew DJ Qualls' character was a cop, but I
also just knew simpleton Badger would sell to him. And that the bust would
inevitably lead to "Heisenberg" himself. But Badger did one smart thing:
He hired a lawyer. Well, sort of. What's worse than a skeezy drug dealer?
A crooked lawyer! Comedian Bob Odenkirk was flawlessly grotesque as the
shyster whose ambulance-chasing persona masked much darker -- even
criminal -- proclivities. How could Walt manage to evade both the cops and
a blackmailing lawyer? This is what BREAKING BAD does best: It shows us
how easy it is to lose one's way when dabbling in the dark side. Even as
mere viewers, we end up compromising our core values and actually rooting
for the drug dealers.

--Lifetime serves up the new unscripted series COOK YOURSELF THIN on May 4
at 5 p.m.

--CBS has floated HARPER'S ISLAND to a new berth: Saturdays at 9 p.m.

--KINGS has been toppled from its Saturday night throne by repeats of LAW
& ORDER: SVU until June 13, when NBC's royal soap will return, and run
through July 25.

THE WE IN WEEKLY

--From Senior Writer/Editor Joe Diliberto: Kimberly McCullough has been
asked to play a lot of strange, unsympathetic stuff as part of Robin's
struggle with postpartum depression on GENERAL HOSPITAL (Stuffing baby
Emma into a tree during a blizzard? Really?) And while the storyline is
far from over, in my book McCullough's finest moment came on April 28, at
Robin's intervention. When told that she must go to a special facility for
inpatient care, Robin looked gobsmacked, and cried, "You're trying to get
rid of me?" McCullough delivered that single line with perfect pitch and a
crack in her voice that broke my heart. There's a difference between
sending her away for her own (and her family's) good, and just getting rid
of her, but McCullough's delivery made both options seem equally
unthinkable. Bravo to McCullough for seizing her opportunity to turn Robin
into a vulnerable, confused (and misunderstood) person.

--From News Editor Mala Bhattacharjee: YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Rafe revealed
he's gay, GUIDING LIGHT's Olivia and Natalia are getting couple-y, AS THE
WORLD TURNS' Noah and Luke got rescued, and ALL MY CHILDREN's Bianca and
Reese reunited and left town. It seems like a decent month for daytime's
LGBT crowd, doesn't it? Except that Bianca and Reese's speedy reunion
doesn't really make up for the rest of their storyline. From making Bianca
so judgmental to turning Reese into Zach's codependent confidante, where
do I even begin? Instead of a straightforward story about Reese's doubts
being normal and human, her confusion was used to play into stereotypes
about lesbians just needing the right man. Of course, the show insisted
that Zach and Reese were just friends, despite A) the scripted kisses and
B) the fact that Thorsten Kaye and Tamara Braun had sparks. Newsflash: If
it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it could be a bisexual duck.
And that is okay. There's nothing wrong with portraying a character as
having feelings that transcend labels (See GL!). But portraying a
character as indecisive and incessantly needy is another story. And come
on, was putting Reese between the show's money couple, Zendall, really
going to make her sympathetic? That was the kiss of death for Reese! No
matter how sweet it is that she and Binks kissed and made up!

--From Managing Editor Gabrielle Winkel: A few weeks ago, I was
complaining that there was no joy in ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Llanview. It was
all about sick children, dead babies and more sick children. Then, a few
days ago, much to my surprise, the episode was practically a lovefest. I
love that when that happens. There was smooching and lovemaking in various
degrees. First we had rough sex between Todd and Tea -- ewww -- and then
we had gentle first-time sex between Jessica and Brody. There was some
talking about the first time between Langston and Markko, and some mature
flirtation between Dorian and Ray. There was something for every viewer,
which is really the way it should be. Right?

--From Editor Michael Karol: Can a soap villain be too bad? Exhibit A: ALL
MY CHILDREN's ruthless Adam Chandler, one of Pine Valley's major players
-- along with his less-seen identical twin, good guy Stuart, both played
by multiple Emmy-winner David Canary. Adam's evil machinations in the name
of making money have won him the title of PV's Most Wanted at the moment:
Tad thinks he might have killed Dixie and pinned it on the Satin Slayer;
Stuart remembers seeing Adam touching a satiny ribbon tied to the Chandler
gates on the day of Dixie's murder. But the real victim was supposed to be
Babe Chandler, JR's wife (and Dixie was JR's mom); Adam's son is, shall we
say, interested in the truth, too. Krystal and David are furious that Adam
got custody of their grandkid, Little A. Indeed, almost everyone in Pine
Valley has an axe to grind with Adam. Yes, a soap villain can be too bad
-- but who cares when the drama is sooooo good for the viewers?
