notified today that yes, the 72-year-old show has been canceled and will turn
out the light on Sept. 18. "Being on the air for more than seven decades is
truly remarkable, and it will be difficult for all of us at the show to say
goodbye," said Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler in a statement. "I'm proud of
everything we've been able to do, including outstanding storytelling, our

new production model. This show has such a rich history, wonderful fans, and I'm
honored to have been a part of the GL legacy."
Adds GH Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps, who helmed GL from 1991-95:
"GUIDING LIGHT has a very special place in my heart. I began my career in

producer. It was a privilege (both times) to be a part of such a fabulous group
of people who did such outstanding work. Some of the most talented actors,
writers and directors have walked through the doors of GUIDING LIGHT. The
industry will mourn the loss of this beloved show, but GUIDING LIGHT leaves a

Nick Walks Out on Phyllis!(SOD)
This week, Phyllis is on the warpath and the drama comes to a head between her
and Nick because he can't stay away from his ex-wife, Sharon. "Everything was
going really well for Phyllis and Nick," points out Michelle Stafford. "It
wasn't like they were having all these problems so he had an affair. The only
problem was this ex-wife who was constantly in Phyllis's eyes, sniffing around
and throwing herself at Nick. So Phyllis sees Sharon as the problem. Sharon is
always manipulating Nick to be close to her and Phyllis gets that. She can't
believe that everything is falling apart because of this one woman."
Nick checks up on Sharon at the hotel suite when she has an emotional breakdown
and she ends up crying in his arms. "Sharon's true love has always been Nick,"
says Sharon Case. "But she's still angry with him for getting back together with
Phyllis after the cabin incident. Sharon got her hopes up when she and Nick
slept together and she pretty much assumed that things would start moving in
their direction, where she and Nick could get back together. So when he went
back to Phyllis, that was a real slap in the face to Sharon because it was the
second time that he chose Phyllis over her. So Sharon hasn't been doing well
about that ever since."
Eventually, Sharon finds a little strength and asks Nick to leave her room. Not
surprisingly, he refuses. "He sees that Sharon is really going through something
and wants to help," explains Joshua Morrow. "Now the problem is that Nick being
around her is just making the situation worse. He really wants to help, but he's
the problem."
When Nick asks Sharon if there's anything he can do for her, she blurts out that
he can help her by "keeping that woman (Phyllis) away." Nick is frustrated,
because he's been trying to do that already. He's asked Phyllis numerous times
to leave Sharon alone.
Phyllis shows up at the GCAC wearing a hat and sunglasses to disguise herself.
When Nick leaves Sharon's room, he sees Phyllis immediately. "Phyllis is on her
way to confront Sharon, and Nick is not going to allow that to happen," explains
Morrow. "Nick stops Phyllis and she fights him a little, so he forcibly guides
her away." In other words, he drags her out of the building.
When they get home, Nick and Phyllis continue to battle it out. "Now it's not
really a standoff over Sharon," explains Stafford. "It's Phyllis realizing, 'Oh
my God, he refuses to stay away from her, so this is a real serious thing.'
Phyllis is completely devastated and she's not questioning if her marriage was
just a lie." Says Morrow: "Nick just can't seem to get Sharon out of his system.
He's tearing Sharon apart and Phyllis wants him to fully commit to their
marriage, which means staying away from Sharon, and he just can't do it."
More angry than ever, Phyllis hits below the belt. "She says that Sharon is a
slut, a manipulator and a thief and she's not the woman that he thinks she is,"
Stafford sighs. Nick says, "I know who Sharon is, but I'm beginning to wonder
who you are." Ouch!
That's when Nick packs his clothes and gets ready to leave. "He's had it!" says
Morrow. "They're not able to talk reasonably and he thinks things will just
escalate to a level they can't come back from. So he just wants to leave so they
can cool off." This doesn't make Phyllis happy. She tells him, "I want you to
tell me that you were always in love with Sharon and our whole marriage was a
lie. I want you to tell me that!" Nick remains quiet and it drives Phyllis
crazy. She tells him to get out of the house and he walks out on her.
Across town, Jack runs into Sharon and requests that she give their marriage
another shot. She responds by whipping out their divorce papers, which she's
just signed. Says Case, "Nothing is going in any clear direction for her right
now. The one thing she can do that makes sense is to just go ahead with the
divorce. She has alot of issues to deal with right now."
Feeling rejected, Jack runs into Nick at the GCAC bar. "Everyone goes there for
a cocktail when they've got a problem," quips Morrow. They begin talking, and
Jack tells Nick that both Sharon and Phyllis are going to continue hurting until
he finally makes a decision: does he want his ex-wife or his current wife?
Jack's advice leaves a strong impression with Nick.
Meanwhile, Noah has missed his curfew and refuses to answer his mother's calls,
so Sharon heads over to Nick's place in search of her son. She encounters
Phyllis, who tells her that Nick has moved out. "Believe it or not, Phyllis
doesn't yell at her," says Stafford. "Instead she does a little gaslighting. She
says to Sharon, 'You constantly being in my husband's life is confusing him. If
you tear our family apart, it will end up devastating Nick and you're the one
who did it.' Please indicate these are Phyllis's thoughts and that Michelle
doesn't care before the fans go crazy because they think I feel this way. So
this is Phyllis's opinion that Sharon is manipulating the situation." (LoL!)
Afterwards, Phyllis tells Sharon to seek some help and Sharon insists that she's
just fine.
Noah comes home and Sharon isn't happy with him. When he argues that he's not in
the mood for another boring lecture, Sharon is stunned by her son's hateful
tone. She starts talking about the regrets of young love and Noah realizes that
his mother is actually reminiscing about her relationship with Nick. Once Noah
heads to bed, Sharon leaves.
Once Sharon makes her exit, Phyllis gets another surprising visit -- this time
from Nick. Phyllis is happy to see her husband, but she's so tired of the
situation that she decides not to push the subject of Sharon. Phyllis is tired
of the situation and just says, 'You're back,' but she doesn't ask him if he's
home for good.
Things go from bad to worse for Phyllis and Nick's marriage when another issue
with Noah arises later in the week that requires both of his parents attention.
Says Morrow: "It's terrible for all parties involved."

OWEN KISSES BRIDGET - AND JACKIE!
Owen's pucker power gets a work out this week after he's hired by Jackie to
handle the legal aspects of Jackie M. "They have already been flirting with each
other, so there's definitely an attraction going on," concedes Brandon Beemer.
"Jackie is a beautiful and fascinating woman. She's different from anybody he's
ever met. She's classy and not needy, so when she's interested in Owen, that
makes him scratch his head and go, 'Wait a second. Is this really happening?'"
But Owen's first order of business is questioning Jackie about Nick's
controversial decision to hire Stephanie, who was recently fired from Forrester
Creations. "Owen is a little leery about what her true intentions are, but
Jackie assures that Stephanie is on board to do some good work," Beemer
explains. "Then Owen finds out that Stephanie has something up her sleeve to
benefit Jackie M, so he can relax. She's definitely doing things that will help
Jackie M."
Owen then meets with Bridget so they can strategize on how to market her new
line. They interact playfully, which Owen eats up. "She makes Owen weak,"
chuckles Beemer. "He really cares about her and thinks she's a great catch, but
after everything she's gone through with Nick, she makes it very clear to Owen
that she's not ready for another relationship. He makes it clear that he wants
to get to know her better by dating her, but she says that's not what she
wants."
Still, Owen makes a move. He plants a kiss on her," says Beemer. "She admits
that she is attracted to him, but knows that it's not going anywhere between
them because they work together."
Next, Owen meets Jackie at her new residence. "It's a hip loft," says Beemer.
"Times are tough, so she needs to downsize her home. He makes her feel good
about moving into something that's a little less than what she's used to."
Jackie shares about Stephanie's latest favor for Jackie M and that a new
investor is interested in the company based on Bridget's upcoming collection.
Jackie and Owen get carried away by the excitement over a brighter future for
her company. "Then Jackie gives Owen a promotion to chief of staff," smiles
Beemer. "He decides to thank her with a nice kiss."

Soap Opera Weekly - April 14, 2009
STEPHANIE TEAMS UP WITH Taylor - AND NICK?
Stephanie moves in with Taylor this week - but it's Nick who wants to help her
move on!
"Stephanie feels like she's hit rock bottom in her life. She's someone at a
crossroads. She's found herself at a place she never thought she'd find
herself," explains Bradley Bell. "She's out of her home, she's out of her
company, and she's really lost and alone in the world. That's when her dear
friend Taylor comes to her aid. They've had their ups and downs, but Taylor and
Stephanie have been allies and admirers of one another since they first met.
Very often in soaps, you hear, 'Why doesn't anyone have friends?' These are
great friends and it's a friendship that's going to get more intense and
beautiful as time goes on."
Intense is how it gets when Stephanie learns that Nick is the one that suggested
that Taylor take her in, and that Nick has plans for her, as well - at Jackie M.
"Nick is an unlikely guy who has come to Stephanie's aid at this time. He sees
someone who he knows has so much strength and fortitude. To see her down and
vulnerable...he reaches out to her," notes Bell.
Not that Stephanie is instantly receptive. "At first, Stephanie doesn't want any
help, especially from Nick," asserts Bell. "She thinks she's being used.
Stephanie always has her guard up; she's very cautious. But when she sees Nick
is sincere, she goes along with it. I think it's just that she's been Mrs. Eric
Forrester for so long, Stephanie is finding her individuality as Stephanie the
woman - an independent woman who can do things. Although it seems like the last
thing in the world she would do - leave Forrester and start up with the
competition - it's a job offer and her life has to go on."
But can she take such an offer, especially knowing what it might do to Eric?
"Eric always had Stephanie. If Eric was with someone else and they were apart,
they were always friends. This marks a new chapter in their relationship where
Stephanie doesn't want to be his friend," teases Bell. "Stephanie's mad at him.
Stephanie, who has always supported him, even when he hasn't been there for her.
Now she's looking out for herself."
So look out, Forrester Creations!

RUMOR REPORT: Is P&G Shopping Guiding Light and As The World Turns as a Package
Deal?
Don't stand up and cheer about As The World Turns reportedly being offered a
one-year pick up from CBS. We're hearing from several sources The Tiffany
Network has already informed producers of the soap opera this pick up would be
the last for the sudser, which today celebrates its 53rd anniversary on the air.
"The people at World Turns were told they won't be picked up again after the
one-year renewal," says one source.
Another insider, the same one who informed Daytime Confidential's Mel months
back that Guiding Light would be cancelled if it didn't achieve and sustain a
1.8 household rating by April—as we all know the sudser was cancelled on April
1—is saying P&G has been in fact pitching their serials as a package deal to
other networks and cablers.
"P&G was recently in talks with SOAPnet about picking up both soap operas, but
the deal fell through about a month ago," reveals the mole.
According to an ABC mole, P&G is gearing up to pitch Brian Frons once again.

benefit Jackie M, so he can relax.

As the 'Light' dims, Reva gives birth
« Thread Started Yesterday at 12:32pm » [Quote]
From: NY Daily News
"Guiding Light's" cancellation this week after 72 years on radio and television
hit fans hard, but it hit the actors harder.
"I'm in mourning," says Kim Zimmer, who joined the soap as fiery Reva Shayne in
1983. "It's different when an actor chooses to leave, because the comfort is in
knowing that that show will always be there. But this is it for our little
family as we know it and love it."
The news comes just as Zimmer's story line is heating up - the cancer-stricken
Reva, who is in her 50s, gave birth yesterday.
"I'm the oldest woman to give birth on a soap opera while being treated with
chemo and radiation for leukemia during menopause," says Zimmer. "But hey, it's
Reva Shayne."
All of Springfield gathers in Reva's hospital room today, including her
ex-husband, Josh, to ooh and ah over the miracle baby and wish Reva well with
her treatment.
"Everyone is talking about how sick she is, but my dialogue doesn't refer to
that," says Zimmer. "I say things like, 'I'm not going to die. I beat this once,
and I can beat it again.' I was hoping I'd take off this pregnancy pad and I'd
be 40 pounds lighter, but that didn't happen."
Actually, Reva looks pretty good for a woman battling cancer.
"I'm tan because I was in Florida, so my joke was that I'm tan from the
radiation," says Zimmer.
The truth is that "GL" was hedging their bets with Reva's cancer story line
because Zimmer had made it clear she was not keen on taking a big pay cut when
her contract expires in a few months.
"If I didn't re-sign, there was always the chance for a dreadful recurrence,"
she says.
That's moot now.
"It's been a great ride," says Zimmer. "I would like to thank all our fans who
have hung in there with us, and I pray we will deliver to you classic 'Guiding
Light' right up to the end" on Sept. 18.

We're still in shock from this week's announcement of "Guiding Light"'s
cancellation. You also had a lot to say about it on our message boards. But the
show doesn't go away until September 18th -- so until then, we're tossing our
sadness aside and looking forward to next week's episodes ...
Is Phillip going to the slammer? Looks like that judgment is coming down next
week -- and it doesn't look good. He's found guilty! How's he going to handle
prison life? It's not like you can just toss your cellmate over a cliff.
Especially if he's bigger and has more tats.
Meanwhile, Edmund is a quietly simmering A-bomb of rage when it comes to
Shayne's involvement with Lara's death. You see, Shayne tells Edmund the role he
(Shayne) played in the demise of Edmund's daughter. Is Edmund just a sleeper
cell of anger? Is he going to explode? Given Edmund's track record (trying to
kill Reva and half the town, drugging Dinah, kidnapping Beth, jailing Holly for
giving him bad press ..), we think Shayne should probably watch his back and
keep his eyes open.
Reva will only be able to enjoy motherhood for one brief, shining moment before
Jeffrey takes baby Colin home. At least they're going to set up a web cam so
Reva can watch her new tot from the comfort of her hospital bed. And that may be
a good way for Reva to take her mind off the cancer treatment she's about to
begin.
Springfield gets a new addition in the form of James Spaulding, Beth and
Phillip's rapidly aged son. He's played by newcomer Zack Conroy. Look for
flirtation to strike up with Daisy, daughter of his daddy's ex Harley.
When the cast of "Guiding Light" was at Universal Studios Orlando a few weekends
ago, they celebrated Mardi Gras by donning flamboyant costumes, tossed beads
a-plenty, and had a pretty great time! Check out our slideshow and tell us if
you don't think they should where those wacky costumes all the time.

After a week of revelations and shocking returns, there's a lot to sort out on
"The Young and the Restless." Find out what's up next for Genoa City:
Nick and Phyllis are still fighting about Sharon, so he walks out. Well, that's
one way to end an argument. Do you think he should reunite with Sharon? Or are
you Nick and Phyllis fans? Sound off below!
Victor has had it with Jack using Colleen (and really with Jack just being
Jack). He moves his Mary Jane plan into phase 2 -- and everything goes off
without a hitch (so rare in soaps, no?). And thus, he sits in a wing-backed
chair, places his hands together, and in his best Mr. Burns, utters "Excellent
... ." In our minds.
Elsewhere, Billy is understandably all aflutter about Mac's inconveniently timed
return. He's married to Chloe, but he still wants Mac to stay. Can he win her
over?
Amber and Kevin, or "bizarro bummer Bonnie and Clyde" as we like to call them,
are arrested, putting an end to the chipmunk-related nightmare that's been
plaguing the Genoans (not a real word) for weeks.
And Karen's life plans take a serious turn when she discovers Neil loves Tyra.
Hmm ... sounds like a good way to send her packing ...

Hey kids, big developments are headed to The Young and the Restless.
Kevin/Amber
Amber is finally able to have Kevin get a grip on things. Unfortunately for him,
Jeff comes in with with the bounty hunter and Kevin thinks that Jeff's his dear
ole' departed dad Tom and attacks him. Just when this occurs, Michael, Jana and
Daniel are on the scene where Michael thinks that Jeff pretending to be Tom can
be helpful for Kevin. Jeff agrees to play the part and Kevin explodes on him
thinking he's Tom. It starts to work when the police show up and arrest Kevin
and Amber.
Katherine/Jill
The women lash out at each other. Later, Jill says she's moving out of the
Chancellor estate. Kay propositions Jack with a job.
Jack
He informs Sharon that he doesn't want to sign off on the divorce.
Sharon
She gets arrested! Once she's sprang from jail she confides in Nick.
Phyllis/Nick/Sharon
Nick decides to swing by the athletic club to make sure Sharon's OK where she
has an emotional breakdown. Nick comforts her and asks if there's anything he
can do to help her and she tell him to have Phyllis back off and away from her.
Nick is thrown through a loop because he didn't know that Phyllis was harassing
Sharon. While this is taking place, big red (Phyllis) happens to be spying at
the club trying to find out what is going on between Nick and Sharon. When he
leaves, Nick spots Phyllis and is pissed with her. When the couple return to
their house, they have a huge argument where Phyllis trashes Sharon. Phyllis
tries to fill Nick in on Sharon's relationship with Billy but he doesn't believe
her and lets Phyllis know that he needs to take some time away from her and
moves out. After this takes place, Sharon goes by the tack house to find Noah
because he never returned home. Phyllis lets Sharon know that Nick has moved
out, instead of lashing out at her Phyllis decides to mess with Sharon's mind by
telling her she needs to get some help and that her actions are having an effect
on Nick's behavior.
Meanwhile at the GCAC, Nick bumps into Jack who lets him know that Nick's
actions are causing more harm than he realizes because he's not choosing which
one he wants to be with. Jack's words make an impression with Nick and the next
day he turns back hoe to Phyllis. Phyllis is so glad he's back that she doesn't
mention Sharon and when the two are trying to piece their marriage together
again, a situation arises with Noah that has Nick and Sharon getting close.
Sharon better watch her back though because Phyllis plots to crush her.
Billy/Mac
Ex-wife Mac is in town because she hears that her beloved grandma is back from
the dead. Mac doesn't know that Billy's getting hitched and the former lovers
come face to face with each other and are blown away. Due to the DNA test that
Brock took with Katherine, it becomes proof positive that Jill isn't her
daughter and Billy and Mac are not related. With Mac being back in town, Billy
starts to have doubts marrying Chloe and Jack tears into Billy and tells him not
to screw up his new life with Chloe and Delia. Jack lets him know that Mac may
not harbor the same feelings he has for her. Later on after he and Chloe have
hit the sheets, he heads over to the Chancellor estate to see Mac. Mac puts
Billy on notice- she's going back to Darfur and doesn't carry the same feelings
she had for him in the past.
While this is happening, Chloe wakes up and sees that Billy's gone and heads out
to the Chancellor's with Delia. The new Abbott family return home but Billy
sneaks out yet again and heads back to visit Mac.This time Brock blocks him on
seeing her. When speaking with Esther, Chloe gets the back story on Billy and
Mac's relationship. Chloe tries to get the info from Billy himself about Mac and
he shuts her down. At week's end, Mac lets Kay and Brock know that she's going
to stay in town for good. Viewers should realize if they haven't already that
Mac has and always will be the love of Billy's life and due to them thinking
they were related he never got over it and is the reason why he's a playboy.
May Sweeps

deal with the devil not to speak about it and I ain't about to pay that sucker
with my soul! All I can say is this, sweeps will be so hot so bad butt that
you'll be speaking about this for years to come! Y&R's not joking when it comes

What a week the show has in store for us!
Genoa City will be seeing the likes of Brock April 1, when Kay and Brock
reunite, and Jill meets with Brock, who has advice for his …sibling? He brings
along Mackenzie, who has a new look that nobody will recognize, of course,
because this time around, Mac's a recast.
Billy gets a tempting offer… is it Sharon on a bed of lettuce? We think so, and
we think he'll go through with having sex with her, before he marries Chloe. I
hope Chloe wasn't expecting Billy to be anyone but himself, otherwise she'd be
crushed at this piece of news. Will she find out? Will anyone? Not before Sharon
agrees to become Chloe's maid of honor! Yes you read right! (I hope you didn't
choke on your tea!)
Amber tries hard to bring poor Kevin back to reality. It's enough that he's shot
and losing it because of that, but will she be able to bring him out of his
personal hell?
Katherine and Jill have a heated confrontation, leading to a cake fight at the
wedding, the next day. Billy and Chloe's wedding is filled not with blessings
and love, but outrageous goings on that you simply have to see for yourself!
Sharon is threatened this week…will this lead up to another confrontation
between Nick and Phyllis? We know that next week brings a huge change between
the duo, but does that mean anything to Sharon? Isn't she into Billy? And who
could blame her!

It's the end of the line for Kevin and Amber this week, when they're tracked
down by the cops and arrested. Greg Rikaart elaborates on what it all means for
his mentally fractured alter ego.
WEEKLY: Just as Amber calms Kevin down and gets him to agree to go home, Jeff
enters the boxcar. How does seeing Jeff affect Kevin?
RIKAART: Considering Kevin's fragile mental state, he mistakes Jeff for Tom. It
kind of sends him back into a tailspin. Any progress that Amber was beginning to
make is undone.
WEEKLY: Does Kevin end up attacking Jeff?
RIKAART: Yes. He knocks him out with a pistol. Then he pinches him and beats
Jeff up a bit.
WEEKLY: When Michael, Jana and Daniel arrive do they intervene and calm Kevin
down?
RIKAART: No. By the time they arrive, there's already a police standoff going
on.
WEEKLY: Michael and Amber tie up Jeff, and then Michael pushes Kevin to use Jeff
as a substitute father. How?
RIKAART: Michael, in some therapeutic way, thinks if will help Kevin to play out
some of that anxiety and pain he's feeling with Jeff. Kevin ends up taking more
of his anger on Jeff.
WEEKLY: Meanwhile, the police end up arresting Amber; is Kevin aware of this,
and does he freak out?
RIKAART: No. Kevin's not really cognizant of what's going on.
WEEKLY: Gloria arrives on the scene just as Michael is coaxing Kevin out of the
boxcar, promising he'll be by his side. Is Kevin receptive to Michael's plea?
RIKAART: Yes. Kevin believes Michael. Michael assures Kevin that he'll be
helped, and he walks out trusting him.
WEEKLY: Unfortunately, Michael can't keep his word. The police swarm Kevin,
pushing Michael away and making it impossible for Jana or Gloria to get to him.
What's the whole scene like?
RIKAART: Jana and Gloria are trying to be there for what they're hoping will be
something of a happy ending, but it's not. Kevin's not cognizant of them or
what's going on around him. The cops really overwhelm Kevin, and he becomes
somewhat catatonic.
WEEKLY: The cops cuff Kevin, and Amber tries to reach out to him, to no avail.
What is Kevin's mental state?
RIKAART: He's in a fragile, pretty bad place
WEEKLY: Is Kevin aware of everything he's done?
RIKAART: He kind of goes in and out of moments of lucidity. So he's somewhat
aware of it, but not fully comprehending it all.
WEEKLY: Is this the lowest psychological low Kevin has ever endured?
RIKAART: Up until this point, yes. But unfortunately, it's going to get worse
before it gets better.

SOD & SOW - Chloe, Billy & Mac SL
« Thread Started on Apr 1, 2009, 2:37pm » [Quote]
Mac is Back!
This week, Mac returns to Genoa City but her surprise re-appearance doesn't hold
a candle to the news that Brock is Katherine's son and Jill isn't.
"Billy is in overall shock when he sees Mac," admits Billy Miller. "It's like
getting hit by a massive semitruck. It's really messed up and couldn't be
happening at a worse time."
When he learns that the love of his life isn't related to him after all, it
throws him for a loop. "It means Billy and Mac got screwed over royally a long
time ago," says Miller. "All that time in the shrink's office talking about the
possibility of being in love with and nearly sleeping with your cousin was all
for naught."
Billy and Mac both try to come to terms with the news, albeit separately. After
Colleen coyly suggests that Chloe should "get to know" Mac, Esther fills Chloe
in on Billy's past with her. Chloe is shocked when she learns that the two of
them were married and in love. Meanwhile, Jack does everything in his power to
keep Billy from making a big mistake -- like kicking his current wife to the
curb. Says Miller, "I don't think Billy knows what (kind of feelings) he has for
Mac. All he knows is that was the only real relationship he ever had, and it was
taken from him."
"I think that the whole thing that happened with mac is part of why he's been
the way he's been with women. When you lose someone you love, you react, and
that's how he was trying to deal with the pain -- by being a playboy for all of
these years. He's been searching for someone to fill that void," says Miller.
Jack slaps Billy in the face with a harsh dose of reality. "Who's to say Mac is
still interested -- that she hasn't moved on?" notes Miller. "Jack also points
out that Billy just made a lifelong commitment to Chloe and has a baby. The
whole point of him getting married was for the baby."
Chloe and Billy end up exiting their reception early. Once they're alone, Chloe
tried to wiggle some information about Mac out of Billy, but he responds by
planting a kiss on her and they end up making love. "Billy has a way of making a
woman shut up," laughs Miller.
Billy thinks that having sex with Chloe will help him forget about Mac. He
thinks he can lose himself in sex. But he doesn't get lost enough. Later, Chloe
wakes up and realizes that Billy is gone. He's gone to se Mac.
"Billy wants to feel her out," says Miller. "He just wants someone to talk to.
Mac is pretty cold. She says they've both moved on. Billy needs that connection.
He doesn't have it with anybody else, and Mac's denying it. It's frustrating."
While Billy begs Mac to talk to him, she reveals that she's returning to Darfur
as soon as possible. That's when Chloe arrives, baby in tow. "Elizabeth stole
that scene," raves Miller. "She killed it! Chloe stakes her claim, like any good
woman would."
Billy goes back home with Chloe and the baby, but he eventually finds a way to
sneak back out and heads over Chancellor Estate -- yet again. However, Brock
won't let him see Mac. Billy pleads with Brock to take his phone number in hopes
that Mac will contact him.
"Billy has no idea what he wants," admits Miller. "Billy realizes people change
and move on as they get older -- things are never the same -- but he feels
there's still a glimmer of something there. It could turn out that he and Mac
will just be buddies, but he's got to find out."
By week's end, Mac informs Brock and Kay that she's decided to stay in Genoa
City for good. Says Miller, "It'll be interesting to see where this all goes."

The Suds Report: April 3, 2009
By Nelson Branco
'ATWT': Axed next? Sabotage at ABC and CBS? 'One Life' cleans house! Insiders'
'GL' reactions! Right again: 'GH's Hearst and Ward out! Finally, the truth: Why
Bob Guza is safe on 'GH'! Hallelujah: Jess Walton re-signs!
SUDSIEST QUOTES OF THE WEEK:
There is a destiny
None goes this way alone
All that we send into the lives of others
Comes back into our own
—Guiding Light prologue
Translation: That is, until Ellen Wheeler got her hands on the oldest show in
broadcast history and killed it.
"It was not handled with class. I really believe that after the sixth death,
it's a hostile act. I don't understand why this character has always got to be
killed." "[On my final] day, my executive producer, Gary Tomlin, wasn't there."
—Thaao Penghlis (ex-Tony, DAYS) to Soap Opera Digest on his umpteenth firing
Translation: Kill me off a handful of times, shame on you. Kill me off a sixth
time, shame on me.
All My Children, A/ABC — Nixon's a computer geek!
• Who knew our old girl, Agnes Nixon, was so savvy? AMC is launching an
"Internet initiative to enhance international broadcast licensee opportunities
for cross-platform monetization." Um, whatever that means. Soap icon Agnes
Nixon, together with our very own Toronto-based The Fremantle Corporation, are
trying to raise additional revenue streams through merchandising and DVD sales,
linking up with the www.AgnesNixon.com website, texting opportunities and
measurement apparatus. Good luck with that, Agnes. Hasn't anyone learned
anything from GL's cancellation? Why promote a bad product? Fix the writing
first, people.
• Memo to Les Moonves, Anne Sweeney and Brian Frons: According to sources, CBS
Daytime VP Barbara Bloom and AMC executive Julie Hanan Carruthers, who are best
bitch pals, have systemically killed various casting coups between CBS and ABC
for personal and professional agendas. Sounds like corporate sabotage to me.
More proof that these selfish friendships are killing the business.
• Remember when former Y&R head writers Jack Smith and Kay Alden were placed on
ABC holding deals? Once again, Babs killed that. Apparently, Brian Frons wanted
the duo to take over AMC before those hacks Barbara Esensten and James Harmon
Brown took over Agnes Nixon's favourite soap. Babs, who allegedly despises
Smith, demanded Caruthers put an end to the appointment. And then they wonder
why AMC was almost cancelled.
As The World Turns, Global/CBS — World Turns cancelled in 2010?
• Congratulations are in order for Mick Hazen (Parker), who won best young actor
at the Youth Artist Awards. Poor Eddie Alderson (Matthew, One Life).
• This is hot, sick stuff. Me likes.
• On the day of its 53rd anniversary, daytimeconfidential.com reported that
despite World Turns' one-year renewal, CBS apparently informed executive
producer Christina Goutman that the venerable sudser received its last pick-up.
P&G is allegedly looking to sell the recently cancelled GL along with World
Turns as a package deal to a cable or online network. According to DC's Jamey
Giddens sources, "P&G was recently in talks with SOAPnet about picking up both
soap operas, but the deal fell through about a month ago." Which begs the
question: why was soap blocker Ellen Wheeler so shocked when GL was cancelled if
they were shopping the series around?
On April 17 and 18, Emmy winner Martha Byrne (who is currently lending her
talents to B&B's writing team) will reunite with Paolo Seganti (Damian) for two
special events at the Peter J Sharp Theatre to support Epic's after-school
Bridge Project. The project allows NYC public high school students to
collaborate alongside professional theatre artists to adapt and perform a
classic play with contemporary power. Each 90-minute benefit will include a
series of staged readings plus an exclusive screening of Paul Leyden's film, Bye
Bye Sally, and a reception with the cast and Epic artists. Click here for more
details. Expected to join the real Lily and Damian are Elizabeth Hubbard
(Lucinda), Leyden (Simon), Tamara Tunie (ex-Jessica) and Kathleen Widdoes
(Emma).
• OMG: That whore, Zac, makes a move on Noah, not Luke — shocker!
The Bold and the Beautiful, CTV/CBS — Bad week for Winsor Harmon
• TMZ.com reports that underrated soap actor Winsor Harmon (Thorne) is
embroiled in the middle of a legal war over a car he leased through his company.
According to a lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Harmon's 2006
Mercedes Benz was repossessed last year because he allegedly skipped out on
lease payments. Now, Daimler Chrysler Financial Services says he still owes more
than $30k in costs for the car, plus some serious interest. FYI: B&B was dark
this week so the show couldn't respond on Harmon's behalf.
Days of our Lives, Global/NBC — Higley does it again!
• From the desk of NBC publicity: DAYS is pleased to announce plans for another
"Day of DAYS" fan event for 2009. The event will take place on November 7, 2009,
at Citywalk at Universal Studios, Hollywood, Calif. and includes cast signings,
special presentations and more. Additional details will be announced in the near
future. As an added bonus, maligned head-writer Dena Higley will be giving out
free botox shots to fans!
• In story news, EJ vows to avenge Tony's death, Rafe tells Sami he's done with
her unhealthy rapist obsession and Philip pisses off every Salem woman because
he's prettier than the lot combined — well, with the exception of Nadia Bjorlin
(Chloe).
• More proof head scabber Dena Higley was born with a horseshoe up her arse:
DAYS finished the first quarter of 2009 tied for No. 2 among network daytime
series in the women 18-49 demographic while ranking No. 2 outright in the
valuable women 18-34 category. You know what? Good for her. Daytime can't afford
to lose another soap, no matter how bad it is. On second thought… maybe we can.
• That big queen, Ross Mathews, will make another appearance on DAYS as Kate's
butch assistant, Chris, on April 14. That'll make up for the losses of Deidre
Hall (ex-Marlena), Drake Hogestyn (ex-John) and Thaao Penghlis (ex-Tony). Not.
Eden Elizabeth Ensenada, ImaginaryBitches.com
• Imaginary Bitches stars unite in new Andrew Miller mini-film!
On the Rock the Soap cruise, Toronto's Andrew Miller and his tragic bride, Eden
Riegel (Bianca, AMC) filmed another online opus, Eden Elizabeth Ensenada, as we
exclusively reported last week. We were on hand for the impromptu filming, which
Miller tells us, "came to me when I woke up at 6 a.m. one morning on the boat."
The short film co-stars Imaginary Bitches' entourage Greg Rikaart (Kevin, Y&R),
Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe, Y&R), Robert Sudduth, Van Hansis (Luke, ATWT),
Dave Altarescu and Melissa Claire Egan (Annie, AMC). Unfortunately, I couldn't
make an appearance in the campy masterpiece because I refused to take the
imaginary pay cut Miller was offering. Bitch — don't you know who I am? By the
way: no tequila was involved in the filming of this movie. Yeah, right. Check it
out here.
• Next week, TVGuide.ca will announce an exclusive contest to win one of the
most highly anticipated TV dvds since The Sopranos series collection — Imaginary
Bitches: Season One. The orgasmic collection will be autographed by the entire
cast. Plus, the winner will find a secret message from Heather and Catherine
teasing season two. But be forewarned: There will be a skill-testing question
for all those real bitches imagining they can get a piece of Andrew Miller so
easily.
General Hospital, CTV/ABC — Why Guza will never be fired! Plus: Hearst and Ward
dropped!
• Once again, The Suds Report hit the nail on the head. Despite GH's denials in
the soap magazines, Emmy winner Rick Hearst (Ric) and Megan Ward (Kate) have
been dropped to recurring status. We have learned that only this group of actors
is safe from being dropped to recurring status: Laura Wright (Carly 2.0), Emmy
winners Sarah Brown (Claudia), Anthony Geary (Luke), Maurice Benard (Sonny) and
Steve Burton (Jason). Hmmm… how about Ingo Rademacher (Jax) and Bradford
Anderson (Spinelli)?
• Is Life In General creator and GH writer, Karen Harris, writing the Scrubs
storyline? Harris tells The Suds Report she can't take all the credit for
Robin's post-partum storyline: "While I wish I could, I really have to publicly
set the record straight. I've never been shy about how much I love writing this
couple, [but] the talented General Hospital writing team is equally responsible
for executing this storyline ... and every storyline assigned to us by our
wonderful head writer Robert Guza." OK, then.
• The Suds Report has learned exclusively why head writer Bob Guza-Marcil will
never be fired from GH despite terminal ratings and viewer/critical
dissatisfaction. A trusted insider tells me, "When [ABC chief] Brian Frons
couldn't get arrested after his stint on NBC, Guza and [executive producer] Jill
Farren Phelps recommended Brian for the head job at ABC daytime. So, alas, he
owes them and will never get rid of him."
• Emmy winner Steve Burton (Jason) is sporting one hell of a diamond ring on
set. Thank you, Monavie.
Guiding Light, Global/CBS — GL cancellation aftermath!
• "I'm in mourning," Kim Zimmer tells Carolyn Hinsey in Friday's Daily News
regarding GL's axing. "It's different when an actor chooses to leave, because
the comfort is in knowing that show will always be there, but this is it for our
little family as we know and love it."
The irrepressible Zimmer also dishes on her current storyline: "I'm the oldest
woman to give birth on a soap opera while being treated with chemo and radiation
for leukemia during menopause," she cracks. Tell that to Darlene Conley
(ex-Sally, B&B).
• "This show has been here since before World War II," said executive producer
Ellen Wheeler of her show's cancellation. "It has gone through wars and
tragedies and triumphs -- man walking on the moon, and the dawn of the computer
age. This show chronicled all these changes in society. It has been our mirror
on society for generations, and when you lose something that is part of the
fabric of society you lose something precious."
• From Emmy winner Sally Sussman Morina, Generations creator:
When CBS announced the cancellation of Guiding Light, no one thought it was an
April Fool's joke despite the cruel irony of the timing. Rumors of the show's
demise have dogged it for years and finally, CBS pulled the plug and put the
show out of its misery. Guiding Light will now join the ranks of other venerable
institutions that have fallen by the wayside lately; the big city newspaper and
the U.S. auto industry. But despite the setbacks and financial problems, these
institutions share a unique place in the fabric of American life and are not
replaceable.
Even though the current model for newspapers is failing, people have an
insatiable appetite for news. They just want it instantly, not the next morning.
So the newspapers that migrate successfully to the internet may find a whole new
national and international audience that will far exceed their current
circulation because of their brand names like the Chicago Sun-Times or the Miami
Herald. These brands are recognizable and have credibility, something the
upstarts can only hope to achieve. Brand identity takes years to cultivate and
its value is priceless.
Whatever form General Motors and Chrysler finally morph into, it will surely be
with those brands which are their most trusted and successful ones. Everyone
knows what the Cadillac or Buick brands stand for and they will always have an
edge over a new, untested foreign one.
The same can be said for Guiding Light, a brand that's been part of the American
consciousness for seventy-two years. It's no accident that as it transitioned
from radio to television the name stayed the same. Even without a presence on
the CBS network, Guiding Light doesn't have to fade into darkness. Surely,
Proctor & Gamble knows the value of their brand which is why they must pursue
any avenue to keep the show going. The network ratings may have been low but
grabbing two million eyeballs each week is no small feat.
Twenty years ago I created Generations for NBC, a soap heralded as
groundbreaking when it premiered yet it only lasted two years. We would've
killed to have had half the success of Guiding Light, even a tenth of it. So
while we all deride the way Nielsen under represents and reports the daytime
audience, the ratings are only one measure of a show's impact. Generations of
viewers have grown up with Guiding Light and its Guinness Record as the
longest-running drama series is unlikely to ever be broken.
So while fans mourn the loss of their show and perhaps send millions of
flashlights to CBS in protest, they should take comfort in the fact that their
brand has even more value in today's scattered media landscape than it has on
the network which may cease to exist itself in a few years. As someone who
watched over the ending of a show, my advice to the producers and writers of
Guiding Light is to go out with a bang and leave the audience wanting more. You
may be 72 years old but in the world of new media, your age is invaluable.
• "I am grateful to have been a part of the greatest achievement in the history
of dramatic television, Guiding Light. Every TV program ever produced borrowed
some part of the model built by Guiding Light. It's as though a dear old friend
has gone to rest, but we can take comfort in the quality of the time we spent
together." —Scott McKinsey, GH director.
• "Guiding Light has a very special place in my heart. I began my career in
daytime there as a production assistant and later returned as executive
producer. It was a privilege (both times) to be a part of such a fabulous group
of people who did such outstanding work. Some of the most talented actors,
writers and directors have walked through the doors of Guiding Light. The
industry will mourn the loss of this beloved show, but Guiding Light leaves a
rich legacy for all of us in daytime to treasure. I wish all my dear friends a
gentle landing." —Jill Farren Phelps, GH executive producer.
• "It's very upsetting to see such an iconic part of TV history say good-bye. GL
will be greatly missed." — Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS).
• "Soapnet should pick it up as a first run, afternoon daily show." — Michelle
Van Jean, GH writer.

One Life to Live, A/ABC — Llanview bloodbath!
• Thanks a lot, One Life! Just as I was falling in love with Emmy winner A
Martinez (Cruz Montez), the ABC sudser fires the actor! That's the last time I
work hard at investing in a new character. Too bad – Martinez and Robin Strasser
(Dorian) ooze sexual chemistry. The fledgling super-couple could actually test
my David and Dorian loyalty. Damn you, bitches. Likewise, just as I was warming
up to newcomer Melissa Fumero wannabe, Camila Banus (Lola) – who took my breath
away at Broadway Cares in a revealing red-hot number – One Life canned her.
• Despite online reports, The Suds Report can reveal that Emmy winner Jerry ver
Dorn (Clint) will remain on contract. Sorry, GL fans.
• Soap Opera Spirit Award winner Beth Ann Bonner (Talia) landed a gig on Law &
Order. Congrats!
• Big surprise: One Life wants Emmy winner Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) back as
Kelly Cramer. Too bad Babs Bloom has other ideas. Tognoni is the most wanted
actress from GL next to Crystal Chappell (Olivia).
• Memo to Brian Frons: cast Crystal Hunt (Stacy) in a porn movie if you like her
that much, but get her off my screen now!
• It's a miracle: The best ABC soap finally paired its hottest leading man,
David Fumero (Cristian) with a viable love interest, Tika Sumpter (Layla) after
consecutively pairing the Cuban stud with four horrific romantic-lead ladies.
Cristian and Layla are simply sex on four legs. Kudos to Sumpter for nailing
this storyline. Good work, One Life.
• Emmy winner Michael Malone just sent me his new novel, Four Corners of the Sky
(Source Books), which will be released in May. After I finish reading my newly
acquired hard-copy version of Harding Lemay's 8 Years in Another World, I'm
going to dive into my favourite One Life head writer's book! Hopefully, there's
no rapemance or Santis!
• One step forward, a million steps backwards: Soap Opera Spirit Award winner
Kathy Brier (Marcie) has been fired. Bad move, One Life. Really bad move. I
guess Brier isn't slutty enough for soap blocker Brian Fons' taste. Also out is
Brier's super talented co-star Chris Stack (Michael). Meanwhile, Brier wrote
this message to her fans on her MySpace page:
"Last week after seven years on OLTL I was told by the powers that be at ABC my
contract was not going to be renewed at the end of my current cycle (May 31st).
I was told that they don't know what else to write for Marcie. Obviously I don't
agree with that statement. I think Marcie has so many layers still left to
explore. That being said I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for
being the most loyal fans I will probably ever have in my entire career. Over
the years I have received countless emails and letters expressing how much
Marcie has given hope to and inspired you but I want you all to know that you
have done the same for me.
You welcomed Marcie in a medium where she was never expected to flourish and
helped me to break boundaries that my fellow voluptuous thespians (hollah —
Chandra Wilson, Melissa McCarthy) continue to break down.
I hope to have your support as I enter this new adventure in my life and career
and I hope, you have enjoyed the life and times of Marcie Walsh McBain as much
as I have."
TVGuide.ca spoke with one of the most talented actors in soaps just two weeks
ago on the Rock The Soap cruise:
TVG: There are always these rumours that you are about to bolt One Life?
Kathy Brier: Really? Omigod, I love the show and the role. I'll play Marcie as
long as Erika Slezak [Viki] is on the show.
• Who's stealing the show these days? That's easy: Carmen Lo Porto (Jack),
Hillary B. Smith (Nora) and Shenell Edmonds (Destiny). "John McPain," quipped
that little superstar in the making Lo Porto! Memo to Eddie Alderson: watch your
back and paralyzed legs, Carmen is coming after you, buddy! I want more of Jack,
the only character Todd Manning is fearful of!
• I love Florencia Lozano (Téa). And it's unconditional. This woman is a star.
Soaps UP, A — Amanda Wilson — don't do it!
First GL's cancellation and now this depressing news: My favourite soap show,
Soaps Up, has officially pissed me off. Soap Opera Spirit nominee Amanda Wilson
announced she will split her hosting gig with some blonde hair model. Don't do
it, Amanda. Because I'll start boycotting the show when you're not on by taping
the American feed again. Please reconsider. If you don't, I swear I'll kidnap
your boy toy, Dan Gauthier (ex-Kevin, One Life) Todd Manning-style. Seriously,
you'll be missed on those odd weeks you're not hosting
The Young and the Restless, Global/CBS — Nia Peeples fired!
• One of Canada's most popular shows, Y&R, has always wisely boasted an
on-screen Canadian presence. The Suds Report has learned there are more maple
syrup loving actors on the show. Along with Toronto native Tonya Lee Williams
(Mamie 2.0), we have learned that Sharon Case (Sharon), Jeanne Cooper (Kay),
Jess Walton (Jill) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren) all have Canuck ties. Cool, huh?
• Another reason to trust The Suds Report: we reported eons ago that Nia Peeples
(Karen) was fired from Y&R. Unfortunately, Y&R pulled a Lauren Woodland
(ex-Brittany) by failing to notify her agent by the deadline. So, they had to
renew Peeples for another 13-week cycle. Don't let the door hit you on the way
out, honey!
• Emmy winner Jess Walton (Jill) has re-signed with the show after seeing the
film and prime-time stars interested in the part. The Suds Report has learned
major boldface was in the running, so smart move, Jess! I'm thrilled Walton is
sticking around, but if I had to recast the part I would have given it to
Colleen Zenk Pinter (Babs, ATWT) without an audition. Regardless, Walton is
about to embark on the biggest storyline of her career, so good move, Jess.
• Canadian Y&R fans— get ready to gamble. Joyce Becker's soap opera festival is
heading to Caesars Windsor Casino in Windsor, Ont. on May 9 at 4 p.m. ET.
Tickets are $10. Scheduled appearances include: Sharon Case (Sharon), Christian
LeBlanc (Michael), Jeanne Cooper (Katherine), and B&B's Kyle Lowder
(Rick-erella). Tickets are available at the Box Office or online at
www.caesarswindsor.com through www.ticketmaster.ca or charge by phone
1-888-345-5885.
• Emmy winner Eric Braeden (Victor) actually had a boy's night out! My hero had
dinner at Martha Madison's (ex-Belle, DAYS) hot Los Angeles resto/bar, Luna
Park, on Friday night. Braeden has great taste.
• One of Y&R's biggest stars ever, Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru) exclusively reveals
to The Suds Report that she's about to be fitted in a Jane Wilson-Marquis
wedding gown. Guess who is walking Rowell down the aisle? None other than
Oscar-nominated actor and Rowell's former co-star, Samuel L. Jackson.
In other Rowell news, the Daytime Emmy-nominated diva is also attending The
Metropolitan Museum of Art to attend the film première for Lymelife, starring
Emmy winners Alec Baldwin and Cynthia Nixon at the 14th Annual Gen Art Film
Festival-going with her super sexy fiancée, acclaimed artist Radcliffe Bailey.
One of my all-time soap divas also just signed a deal to publish her oh-so
scandalous faux-memoir, Confessions of a Soap Opera Diva. We can't wait!
SOAP OPERA MYSTERY HOUR: This week's hottest blind items
—Which west coast actor is telling anyone who will listen that he's done with
his hit soap because he hasn't had a storyline in a dog's age? He's eager to
find a new role on another soap. And yes, that's the alcohol talking.
—Which executive producer went into rehab recently when his wife found out about
his various vices and affairs?
—Which soap starlet is battling prescription drug abuse? The show is very
worried about the fan fave.
—Which soap manager is working with two soap superstars who want to return to
their iconic soap roles? Let's hope the pay cuts don't ruin these potential
casting coups!

SOAP OPERA DIGEST INSIDER
April 2, 2009
Greetings From The Editor
Lynn Leahey
Dear Readers,
It was a sad day in the Digest office when we heard GL was canceled. I
have loved that show since I was a little girl watching with my mother,
and I just can't imagine daytime without it. We're talking to GL-ers past
and present about what it all means; stay tuned for more in future
issues.... It looks like a man other than Ridge or Rick will be getting
some action on B&B very soon: No sooner has Owen planted a kiss on his
crush, Bridget, than he's thanking Jackie with a buss. Will Owen get lucky
with either? Bridget makes it clear she's not in the market for romance,
and Jackie insists nothing can happen because they work together.
Something tells me both women are wrong.... Megan Ward (Kate) and Rick
Hearst (Ric) have been taken off contract at GH, but we're told they'll
remain on the show -- unless they get a better offer.... Back for a quick
visit is OLTL's Tuc Watkins, for an appearance you won't want to miss.
David informs a proud Dorian that he got his big break -- in a hemorrhoid
treatment commercial. Robin Strasser confesses to Digest that the scenes
were among the hardest acting assignment she's ever had, because it was
all she could do to keep from falling off her chair laughing!
TALES FROM THE INTERVIEW
Stephanie Sloane: Over the years, Thaao Penghlis (Tony) has been so
lovely, charming and cooperative with the magazine and it has been a
pleasure for me to talk to him. He has been killed off DAYS yet again and
this time, the actor says, "I really believe that after the sixth death,
it's a hostile act. I don't understand why this character has always got
to be killed. It's not the leaving, because I've always gone on to do
other things, and I am certainly in the middle of some very exciting
things now, but I was given some really interesting things to play in the
last few weeks, and I think it's a pity that wasn't there before." For the
full interview, check out the new issue.
Lauren Flynn: When I was preparing for my Hillary B. Smith interview in
the current issue of Digest, I wasn't exactly certain what we'd be talking
about, but I imagined it would have something do with Smith returning to
the "front burner." The actress was quick to point out, however, that she
doesn't consider her story involving Nora, Matthew and Bo front burner,
but rather "one of the stories that's happening because it's a cataclysmic
event. It was the perfect storm: Blair getting stabbed, Cole on drugs, him
hitting Gigi and Shane and the discoveries of Shane's illness and all of
it just happened all at once," she observed. "So you realize you're just a
piece in a bigger puzzle and your job is to make sure that your piece is
full and fits nicely with the puzzle." It's an event that she's been
waiting for since at least 2005, when Nora went into a coma and it looked
like Smith was going to walk. But something in her heart told her to stay
and see what would happen for Nora, and boy, are we glad she did. When
given the chance to shine, Smith always rises to the occasion but without
eclipsing the other fine performers. That's what makes her an invaluable
ensemble player and this plot "Worth the Wait" (see page 62).
Devin Owens: Besides talking to Digest about her latest tenure on Y&R,
Eileen Davidson (Ashley) maintains a realistic view about an acting
career, especially during these economical times befalling soaps. "When
you're an actor, you kind of sign on to the fact that you're a vagabond
and a traveling salesman," explains Eileen. "Consistency and stability is
the antithesis of the definition of what acting is all about. The fact
that you have that steady income and stability in your life because of
soaps is an anomaly and very rare. That's why when I was fired from Y&R
the first time, I always said, 'You know, it never said in my contract
that I get to play Ashley Abbott till the day I die unless I choose not
to.' That's just not how life is and certainly not in this business.
There's been some huge changes in daytime lately but it's been a great
ride for everybody."

CAMPAIGN TRAIL
You gotta love soap fans' creativity -- Digest regularly receives doodads
and goodies from readers who know how to make a statement.
Vera Hadzi-Antich: Normally fan campaigns are geared toward a specific
couple or actor/actress, but this week we had two group campaigns. The
first is from the folks at
http://sourceinterlink.r.delivery.net/r?2.1.3Ky.2gt.11g2vw.C5AzWA..N.QLy0.
2bQ.bW89MQ%5f%5fCeGaFPK0 celebrating "the next generation of soaps' 'bad
girls'" with a quote from Mae West saying, "When I'm good, I'm very good.
When I'm bad, I'm better." The second group campaign is from AMC
supporters asking for some R-E-S-P-E-C-T! They say: "It's time for AMC &
ABC to show some love to these women and the viewers." It's nice how
campaigners came together on these!
Of course there are also some couple-based campaigns. ATWT's Nuke fans,
yet again, gave us a new campaign telling us "how to write for Luke &
Noah: 1. Keep Luke & Noah together forever 2. No breakups 3. No cheating"
... Well, yeah, but where's the drama in that? Dueling Y&R campaigns vie
for Billy's love. Billy and Lily supporters say they are the "real deal."
Billy and Chloe supporters beg the writers not to "take a child from her
parents!" Even though the news broke yesterday that GUIDING LIGHT would be
wrapping in September after 72 years, fans would like to see more Olivia
and Natalia scenes. They are calling themselves "Team Otalia."
My favorite creative campaign this week comes from the Thorsten Kaye fans
and their "Special Kaye ... he does AMC good" campaign. I always
appreciate a little laugh.
Thanks everyone!

Kudos to GL! I was skeptical when it was first announced that Doris Wolfe
would be revealed as a closeted lesbian, but her scenes with Olivia have
been so emotionally raw that I have found myself near tears. I have always
been a fan of Orlagh Cassidy [Doris], but her involvement in the "Otalia"
storyline has brought a certain humanity to Doris. Crystal Chappell
(Olivia) has this unique way of making you feel every emotion of her
character. Throughout this whole past week, her scenes with Jessica
Leccia's Natalia made my heart need a reboot! I can't say the last time
any show has elicited so much emotion from me. Thank you, GL! Paige S., GA

Q. I was wondering if you can tell me the name of the book that Amber
wrote about Katherine Chancellor on YOUNG AND RESTLESS. I've been trying

A. Sorry, Kay's memoir, I'm Going To Live 'Til I Die, was strictly
fiction. Y&R has no plans to publish the tome.

It's great -- it creates new storylines with characters we already know
and love: 21%
I hate it -- it's so unrealistic and I'd rather the show just create new
