ATWT Actress Returns!
Kristina Sisco Romero is back at AS THE WORLD TURNS, but not as
Abigail. The actress, who left Oakdale in September 2002, directed
the January 15 episode. "It was quite by happenstance, because my
talent manager and I had seen some rumors on the Internet that they
were thinking about bringing Abigail back to the show," recalls
Romero. "So she ended up calling Chris [Goutman, executive producer]
and talking to him and she starting telling him about the things that
I've been doing. I just graduated USC with my Masters in writing and
directed some things, so it came to the point where she asked if
there were any opportunities. He said, 'If Kristina's really
interested in directing, she can come out and shadow the directors
and learn.' So I ended up talking to Chris myself and he was just so
receptive to the idea and so welcoming. It was wonderful. I got to
come out to New York and I stayed with Terri Colombino [Katie] and
her husband Artie and essentially went back to AS THE WORLD TURNS. At
the end, Chris was nice enough to give me scenes to direct and I
directed Jon Hensley [Holden], who played my dad, Michael Park [Jack]
and Noelle Beck [Lily]. I directed five or six scenes with them and
it ended up going so well that Chris invited me back to do my own
show and that's what I did in the end of November." Tune in 1/15 to
see Romero's turn behind the cameras.
Yup, They Did It!
After months of fan anticipation for when landmark gay male duo Noah
and Luke would hit the sheets, AS THE WORLD TURNS pulled off a good,
old-fashioned soap surprise with a little smokin' Nuke-lear energy in
yesterday's episode. "We have been telling Luke and Noah's story in a
sensitive and respectful way. The scenes were a natural progression
of their relationship and the time seemed right for this couple to
reach this milestone," a rep for the show tells Weekly. And Nuke fans
certainly seem to agree — so far, the cleverly unspoiled love scene
is garnering rave reviews!

Spoilers for down the road: 2009 preview
Grant Aleksander rejoins the cast as Phillip Spaulding on February
6th. David Andrew MacDonald returns as the Prince of Darkness -
Edmund Winslow on January 22, 2009. Both returns will have huge
impacts on Springfield.
Edmund's return will mean big changes for Reva, Josh, Jeffrey, Shayne
and Dinah - all of those who he feels have wronged him (or are
related to them). With Cassie gone to Hawaii, Edmund's focus is on
those who he feels let her move on without him.
Phillip's return (during a wedding, TPTB reveal) will certainly have
impact on the Spauldings - Lizzie, Beth and Alan, the Coopers, ex-
wives Blake and Olivia and BFF Rick. But which Phillip will be
returning? He has something up his sleeve (like Edmund) but we won't
know what all they are up to for awhile - which is a good thing.
Phillip and Alan square off both with Alan's shooting of him and his
relationship with Beth. Phillip's return happens at a key point in
the Coop/Beth/Alan romance. But who will Beth end up with? Beth will
share airtime with her other ex-husband (Edmund) as well.
Phillip and Reva will connect now that they share a grandchild (baby
Sarah). In the meantime, Reva's big goal is to give birth to a
healthy, happy son. Jeffrey and Reva butt heads over her ideas, but
Jeffrey does all he can to protect Reva and his son. Reva and Jeffrey
will have great scenes with child birthing classes and a huge baby
shower. TPTB do promise that despite some close calls, Reva will give
birth to a healthy son.
Beth and Coop's relationship comes out into the open - which will
bring out a lot of drama for many of Springfield's citizens. With the
return of Phillip, and the anger of Alan, can their relationship
survive? When Alan learns the truth, he issues Beth an ultimatum
which affects many in Springfield.
Shayne has a lot of emotional baggage to unload before he move on -
but look for his relationship with Dinah to be a good move for both
people with bad luck in love.
Phillip owes Blake an apology for his part in Ross's death. Will
Blake ever forgive her ex?
With Ava out of Springfield, Remy will grow closer to Christina. He
really wants to help her with the goal to become a doctor. She'll be
tempted with some dangerous choices, but Remy will use his experience
to try to get her back on track.
Phillip's return means more challenges for Rick - and hopefully more
airtime! Rick and Olivia's bond over their heart transplants will
continue to flourish. Natalia and Frank grow a little closer,
finally, and Natalia does something for Frank when he needs a favor
the most.
Last year gave Lizzie and Bill a number of tests to their
relationship, which will continue. After all of her problems with men
and relationships, Lizzie wants to take a break from love for awhile,
leaving Bill to have to work hard to keep her love alive. But GL's
writers state that this couple will have happiness in the new year.
Bill's parents have their hands full with Bill and Dinah. Billy still
thinks of getting back with Vanessa, once things settle down a bit.
Phillip's Aunt Alex will see more air time and fans will see how all
of the family struggles have affected her.
Dinah and Grady's schemes are over, but their secrets keep the
connection strong. Both will pay in some way for Lizzie's kidnapping .
Frank and Natalia finally take a chance on romance in 2009. And Rafe
will be released from prison.
Mallet and Marina try to adopt in the new year.

angrily accuses the broker of lying to them, Daniel manages to hustle
Amber OUT of the pawn shop. Later, Amber attempts to convince Kevin
to help Amber break into the pawn shop so they can look for
Katherine's heirloom ring. While Kevin is mulling over the
possibilities, Amber explains to Kay that Kay WAS having memory

go ahead and make an appointment with a doctor who might be able to
help Kay recover her memories. Later, however, when Kay DOES consult
a specialist - both Amber and Kay are dismayed when tests reveal that

FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2009 -- SUMMARY OF THE WEEK'S EVENTS
BRAD CLASHES WITH VICTOR -- After learning that Brad's daughter,
Abby,l is now calling Victor 'Dad,' Brad has a heated confrontation
with Ashley about the issue. Brad is disappointed when Ashley brushes
aside his concerns. Later, Brad begins to fume when Victor informs
Brad that Victor wants Brad to give up Brad's seat on the Newman
Enterprises Board of Directors. Brad refuses to go along with
Victor's game plan. Brad is surprised when he arrives at work and
realizes that he can no longer access the company web site reserved
for board members. When Brad asks J.T. for help logging on, Victor
arrives and admits that VICTOR is responsible for Brad being frozen
out of the board members web site. Victor openly informs Brad that
Victor is determined to see to it that Brad resigns his seat on the
Newman Board. Although Victor would LIKE to be able to use the fact
that Brad gave confidential information about Newman to Jabot while
Brad was working for Jabot - Victor's hands are tied because the
decision to give Brad immunity from prosecution is still a binding
agreement. Victor is miffed when Brad refuses to knuckle under right
away. Later, Brad arranges to have lunch with BOTH of his daughters -
Colleen and Abby. During lunch, Abby lets slip the news that Ashley
is meeting with Abby's teachers to iron out some issues relating to
Abby's recent transfer from British to American schools. Brad decides
to join Ashley for the conference. Unbeknownst to both Brad AND
Ashley - Victor is ALSO making plans to attend the conference. Ashley
is surprised when Victor turns up to attend the parent-teacher
conference, since the main purpose of the conference is for Ashley to
iron out some routine issues related to Abby's transfer from schools
in Europe to school in the United States. Although Ashley tries to
convince Victor that there really is NO need for Victor to attend the
conference, Victor refuses to bow out. Ashley becomes unnerved when
Brad ALSO turns up in the middle of the conference. Brad angrily
informs Victor that Brad is NOT going to allow Victor to horn in on
Abby's life. Ashley manages to convince Victor and Brad to back away
from their confrontation - for Abby's sake. Later, Brad asks Abby to
move back in with him. Brad is disappointed when Abby informs him
that she plans to stay at The Newman Ranch with her mother and
Victor. Brad then decides that the time has come for him to file for
full custody of Ashley. Meanwhile, Victor tells J.T. and Victoria
that they need to find something - anything - which they can use to
force Brad to give up his seat on the Newman Enterprises Board of
Directors. Victor admits that he is determined to force Brad out of
the Newman boardroom - no matter WHAT it takes! In the meantime, Brad
remains determined to pursue his romantic interest in Sharon. Brad
overhears Sharon speaking with Jack and learns that Sharon is making
plans to spend a few days at the remote Abbott family cabin in the
woods while she sorts out her feelings about recent developments in
their marriage. When Jack agrees, Brad begins to consider the
possibility of paying a surprise visit to Sharon while she settles in
at the cabin!
YOUNG AND RESTLESS
FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 2009 -- SUMMARY OF THE WEEK'S EVENTS
Y&R -- The distance between Nick and Phyllis continues to grow.
Gloria is surprised when Victor makes a tempting offer to her. Kevin
and Amber declare a truce long enough to work together in order to
help Katherine prove her identity. That is JAMES MICHAEL GREGARY who
is appearing as Clint Radison. GREGARY created the role of Clint
Radison back in 1989 - and was recently revealed to be in cahoots
with Chancellor Industries' new accountant - Roger, beginning January
16.
YOUNG AND RESTLESS

Y&R -- DON DIAMONT will exit the role of Brad Carlton after more than
twenty years in that role. Word is that Brad's exit will
be 'shocking.'
YOUNG AND RESTLESS
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2009 -- WINTER PREVIEWS
Y&R -- A SPRING WEDDING is reportedly in the works - but no details
have been released yet.
VICTOR continues to plot to make Jack pay for fabricating Victor's
fraudulent diary - and makes plans to hit Jack where it will hurt
Jack the most. Jack becomes suspicious that Victor IS plotting
revenge - while Ashley sits on the fence - committed to Victor but
sympathetic toward Jack's point of view. Jack is destined to
experience a huge reversal of fortune. In the meantime, there IS a
possibility that Victor's attitude toward Adam COULD thaw!
PHYLLIS FUMES while Nick and Sharon grow closer and seem to be
spending a LOT of time together, dealing with issues concentrated on
Noah. Meanwhile, Daniel and Amber's relationship remains solid.
Current speculation is that MICHAEL GRAZIADEI, who appears as Daniel,
does NOT plan to sign a new contract when his current contract
expires in MARCH of 2009.
SUPPOSEDLY - Brad's exit will be 'an incredibly dramatic story'
of 'operatic proportions.' SUPPOSEDLY - Brad's exit will change the
lives of many people in Genoa City forever - (We'll believe it when
we see it!) DON DIAMONT will be exiting the role of Brad Carlton -
possibly soon. Speculation is that Brad's exit will occur when Brad
becomes the victim in a 'new' murder 'mystery.' It is being
speculated that DIAMONT's exit will be only the FIRST of a number of
exits which will take place in Y&R's pool of 35-and-older cast
members.
GLORIA continues her efforts to get out of the slammer - and another,
even more shocking revelation - is right around the corner. This new
revelation will have far-reaching consequences for Michael, River,
Gloria and Eden.
BILLY'S RELATIONSHIP with Lily will begin to get comfortable. But,
while Billy and Lily are still exploring their relationship,
a 'surprising' burst of passion among the four of them will upset the
apple cart once again.
THE ABBOTT FAMILY will remain in turmoil as they all jockey for
position in the power struggle to head up the family empire. ABBEY
returns and is immediately suspicious about Noah's relationship with
Eden.
When KATHERINE makes attempts to reclaim her life - she runs into a
roadblock. JILL is convinced that Katherine is a fraud who is just
attempting to muscle in on the cushy CHANCELLOR life-style! Katherine
begins to wonder if Jill really IS her daughter!
BRAD/NOAH SPOILER
Brad makes a final appeal to Sharon for her love, but she doesn't
feel the same way. As Brad drives home, his car breaks down in the
snow and he hears someone calling for help. It's Noah, who has fallen
through the ice, after lieing once again about going to a skating
party, with Eden. Brad save him ,but once at the hospital, He doesn't
know who saved him.
**COULD THIS BE BRAD RUMOR HEROIC EXIT***????
According to Kevin Schmidt(Noah) something bad is going to happen to
Noah that land him in the hospital,on his youtube blog! His most
recent video(Jan 6th), he is on the Y&R set, in his dressing room in
a hospital gown in really pale make-up During the video, you can hear
someone over the intercom saying "Peter, Joshua etc to the "hospital

SOAP OPERA DIGEST INSIDER
January 15, 2009
Greetings From The Editor
Lynn Leahey
Dear Readers,
The time has come to say good-bye to DAYS's John and Marlena -- the
super
couple bids Salem adieu next week. Digest honors Drake Hogestyn and
Deidre
Hall, as well as their legions of fans, with a collector's issue
including
the history of their romance, notable quotes over the years and
tributes
from their fans. Get the details on how the couple will exit (yes,
there's
a wedding), too, in the latest issue.... Also saying goodbye (again)
is
AMC's recently returned Colin Egglesfield (Josh). Susan Lucci (Erica)
describes her on-screen son's dramatic death, and the profound effect
it
has on his family. Let's just say it's good news for Kendall fans....
And
a big welcome back to Natalia Livingston (ex-Emily), who will be
playing a
new character on GH. Her first scenes aren't with Emily's still-
grieving
love Nikolas, though -- find out who grabs her attention, in the
Late-Breaking News section.... And on our web site, be sure to check
for
classic interviews from industry greats. TV Guide Canada's Nelson
Branco
pointed out that Doug Marland's Digest piece, "How Not To Wreck A
Show,"
has been circulating the Internet for years, and suggested we reprint
past
words from daytime's best and brightest. Keep an eye out for more.

MARA LEVINSKY: In this week's Digest, a cross-section of the genre's
most
impressive tear-producers, from GL's Kim Zimmer (Reva) to AMC's Bobbie
Eakes (Krystal) to Y&R's Sharon Case (Sharon), share the tricks of
their
trade, from how they gear up emotionally for big crying scenes to how
they
modify their makeup routines if they know they're about to turn on the
waterworks. We also asked the stars whose crying ability they admire
(Arianne Zucker, DAYS's Nicole, picks Y&R's Michelle Stafford,
Phyllis,
while ATWT's Terri Colombino, Katie, gives props to former co-star
Martha

long-time B&B fan, even though, as she mentioned in last week's Q&A,
she
doesn't get to watch much because of her hectic schedule. "My husband
and
I are very passionate about our platform of Family First," smiles
Robin.
"Family does come first with us and that's the reason why I come on
his
show everyday. When we made this huge leap of leaving our lives in
Dallas
to come here [to Hollywood], it was still about family. I told him
that I
would support him and be there for him." So, what did Robin think
about
visiting the B&B studios? "I was surprised how small the sets are,"
she
chuckled. "If you came to the DR. PHIL show you would be shocked how
large
the set is. It's huge. So to see a set here, it's much smaller. When
Phillip was on the set of FRAISER, I was blown away that it was a
miniature version of what I watch on TV."
CAMPAIGN TRAIL
You gotta love soap fans' creativity -- Digest regularly receives
doodads
and goodies from readers who know how to make a statement.
ELAINE G. FLORES: We had a relatively light week in terms of mail this
week, but it was nonetheless interesting. Here's what's new:

1uc.IIeEeK00 who celebrated "2 months, 2 proposals, 1 GREAT LOVE" with
Ring Pops. I guess Ring Pops are very popular. I can tell you a
couple of
girls here squealed when they saw this candy. I'm on a low-carb kick,
so
unless it's bacon on a stick, I'll pass.... In other Pine Valley news,
"Team Slater" sent cards with pictures of their favorite duo nuzzling.
Their message was: "The resolution AMC should make and keep: A better
year
for Zach & Kendall.".... There was love for the Crazy/Beautiful Annie
and
Aidan. "I want more 'A Team!' " declared a Boston fan.
-- Over in Oakdale, we got glossy postcards with a broken heart and
shots
of Noah and Luke looking looking sad and lonely. "We want the good old
days when Luke and Noah were together and happy on ATWT," was the
message.
Clearly, these were sent before the duo got all smoochy and naked on
Monday's episode. If I know my "Nuke" folks, I will receive a deluge
of
happy mail next week. Don't make a liar out of me, people.... There
was
more rejoicing for newlyweds Jack and Janet. Devotees at Jack & Janet

"Wanted" poster. This time it's for "Paul Ryan And Meg Snyder Alive
And
Together. Reward: Priceless."
-- GH's Jason and Sam fans continue to crow about the duo with an
array of
new cards and messages ranging from "Stairway To Heaven" to "Born To
Be
Wild." What, no "Free Bird"? Also, The Biggest Natalia Livingston Fan
Ever
is all excited over her return to the show as Rebecca and already
pushing
for a pairing with Sonny. Among the messages: "Trouble Never Looked
This
Good" and "She Is Back! Who do we want her paired with?" Sonny"
That's all for now. Have a good week.

When I was thumbing through my newspaper (the 12/24/08 edition of the

called, for sure, but had to give that a shout out. I hope ABC

IN PERSON
I had the great fortunate of meeting Vincent Irizarry (David, AMC) in
person. My brother Tommy is a saxophone player in a rock band and one
of
his band members, John Irizarry, happens to be Vincent Irizarry's
uncle
(even though they are only three years apart). On Thursday night,
December
11, the band played a benefit concert at a small club in Greenwich
Village
in New York City to raise money for a charitable organization. Vincent
Irizarry attended the benefit and was the spokesperson on behalf of
the
organization. Later in the evening, he got on stage and sang a
Christmas
song with the band. He sounded amazing!
When he first arrived at the club, my father was bold enough to
approach
him and asked if he would mind posing for a picture with me. He was
gracious enough to honor my father's request. Needless to say, I was
speechless as we posed for the picture! After the picture was taken,
he
chatted with me for a few minutes and was very polite and very down-
to-
earth. Later in the evening, he was gracious enough to give me his
autograph. I now have the picture and the autograph together in a
beautiful frame.
As I was leaving the club, I said good-night to him and thanked him
for
the picture and the autograph. He leaned in and kissed me on the
cheek.
Again... SPEECHLESS!! I then told him he was much nicer in person
than he
is on television. He said, "Well, I hope so!!"
Thank you Vincent Irizarry for your kindness, and for making that
evening
a very special and memorable one for me!! Laura Najarian, Brooklyn, NY

THE TOP 10 PLUS
1. YOUNG AND RESTLESS' kooky Gloria topped herself again when she
decided
to stay in jail to kiss up to Katherine; only Katherine was bailed out
soon after that...oops!
2. Why is ALL MY CHILDREN's Frankie suddenly so upset about his
girlfriend's past as a hooker? Isn't that what attracted him to her
in the
first place?
3. Looks like GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kate has a new foe -- Claudia should
watch out for "the mistress."
4. Y&R's re-caffeinated Kevin and Jana are much more watchable now;
they
recently became somewhat...watered down.
5. BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL's Rick showed up at Big Bear so soon after
Marcus
left, it's a wonder they didn't pass each other on the driveway.
6. With GH's Maxie breaking his heart and Winifred hacking into his
hard
drive, Spinelli clearly needs to update his antivirus software!
7. What the heck is AS THE WORLD TURNS' Lily doing suggesting that
Craig
find himself a wife after the travesties of his marriages to her
sister,
her sister-in-law, and one of her friends?
8. DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Lucas might as well have his head buried in the
sand, considering how blind he is to Chloe and Daniel.
9. Considering the mess Jack got him into, Y&R's Adam should have
more of
a vendetta against him than Victor.
10. So ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Cristian and Vanessa have sex seconds after
Sarah leaves Llanview. Good call to dump him, Miss Roberts.
WHY WE CLAPPED
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS' Jess Walton used her whole body to express
Jill's excitement and then disappointment when she thought her mother
had
returned from the grave. Walton touched her character's mother
tentatively
when Jill doubted Katherine was flesh and bone, then she groaned when
Jill
decided it was all a scam perpetrated by Marge. The disgust on
Walton's
face would have been enough to wither Marge; instead, Walton's
piercing
glares, waving hands and standoffish body language broke Kay's heart.
While Jill could not believe her eyes, we knew we could trust ours --
and
awarded Walton Applause, Applause kudos for issue 4.

NIGHTWATCH
--From Senior Writer/Editor Joe Diliberto: Fans of J.J. Abrams' Fox
series
FRINGE -- which returns on Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. -- know the creator of
LOST
is building a mythology for the science-oriented show, and while it
may be
fun to search for the bald-headed Observer in every episode, spotting
him
is not essential to enjoying the series. And that's just how Abrams
likes
it: If fans want to delve deeper, fine; if not, they can still have
fun.
In addition to strange characters, FRINGE also has a rather unique
visual
style, including the cryptic images that appear onscreen just before
commercials (along with the advisory about how long the break will
last).
Those are usually called "bumpers" in the industry, but Abrams calls
them
"blips," and says a lot of careful thought went into designing the
imagery. "In terms of the blips, it's something that we're doing for
people who care to figure it out and follow it," he reveals. "But
it's not
something that a viewer has to consider when they watch the show."
That's
good to know, because a lot of viewers might be distracted by another
of
the series' trademarks, the block lettering that appears to be part
of the
scenery when introducing a location. "It was in the script," avers
Abrams.
"We just thought it was going to be a fun thing to do as a way of
introducing a location."
--BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fans will have a chance to buy thousands of
props,
pieces of sets, and authentic costumes from the Sci Fi Channel series
at
an auction in Pasadena, Calif., this weekend. It all begins with a
preview
on Jan. 16, and then the live auctions run from Jan. 17 to 18 at the
Pasadena Convention Center. The auction can be followed at

THE WE IN WEEKLY
--From Assistant Editor Julie Globus: Is there a bigger hypocrite than
Y&R's Nick Newman? Here he is, furious with his wife for getting
involved
in Sharon's personal life, while he was the one sharing a secret kiss
with
Sharon in Paris. And he has the audacity to call Phyllis paranoid? If
the
kiss alone weren't enough to make Phyllis question his devotion to
her,
there's always the fact that he cheated on Sharon with Phyllis,
proving
how serious he is about marriage. Nick: People in glass houses
shouldn't
throw stones.
--From News Editor Mala Bhattacharjee: I know the "big news" in ATWT-
land
this week was Luke and Noah having sex, but I want to give a shout-
out to
some other great stuff this week. I loved Brian's last scenes with
Noah,
Luke and Lucinda, and am going to miss Laurence Lau's heartfelt
portrayal
of a deeply closeted man slowly coming to terms with his identity. I
also
loved the Casey, Jade and Derek standoff with Robbie at Metro --
especially the unintentional amusement of Casey noting to Jade that
Metro
is closed in the middle of the day. With the amount of customers Carly
gets (read: none!), it doesn't make much difference! The only thing I
didn't like about that story beat? That the only character of Hispanic
origin that we've seen in Oakdale in years had to be one as
stereotypical
as Robbie. ¡No me gusta!
--From Senior Editor Gabrielle Winkel: I do a lot of smiling when I
watch
OLTL. There's David Vickers, of course, but I grinned through all the
scenes with Rex and his son, Shane, and Bo and Nora and their son,
Matthew. Rex telling Shane about sex and Shane countering with, "So
sex
with mom was meaningless?" was priceless. The always expressive John-
Paul
Lavoisier (Rex) was adorably befuddled. Robert S. Woods (Bo) and
Hillary
B. Smith (Nora) were also stressed when Matthew pointed out how much
the
two of them like to drink. "And alcohol is a drug," he reminded them.
Damn
those smart kids.
--From West Coast Editor Janet Di Lauro: Y&R's veteran actress
extraordinaire, Jeanne Cooper (Kay), loves sharing the screen with the
show's younger set. "It's fun mixing it up," says Cooper. "Michael
Graziadei (Daniel), Greg Rikaart (Kevin) and Adrienne Frantz (Amber)
are
divine," raves Cooper. "They're very professional and deliver to a
scene.
You can play off of them. They can play off of you. They give and they
take, and that's what acting is all about -- acting and reacting.
They're
a joy to work with."
