Brooke And Ridge Say I Do
Finally! BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL's most wed twosome marry again. "They go
back to Malibu. It's a very significant location for them," says Ronn
Moss (Ridge). For more on this very romantic day pick up the Jan. 13
issue of Soap Opera Weekly.

Sharon And Jack Split on Y&R
Sharon has had it with Jack's lies — despite the fact that he's now
telling her the complete truth — and tells him she's filing for
divorce on YOUNG AND RESTLESS. "Jack's hit rock bottom. He's blown
his marriage sky-high," admits Peter Bergman (Jack). And things may
get even worse. Pick up the Jan. 13 issue of Soap Opera Weekly for
the details.

Y&R Star Engaged
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL Season 3 winner Eva Marcille (Tyra, Y&R) is
engaged to her boyfriend, Lance Gross, star of TYLER PERRY'S HOUSE OF

Christmas Eve with a three-carat Pavé Cartier ring, according to Us
Weekly. The magazine also said the couple is considering a summer
ceremony in 2010.

AS THE WORLD TURNS Casting!
Soap Opera Digest can confirm that Paolo Seganti (Damian) is

and Lucinda.

B&B Star Going To Prime-Time
Ashley Jones (Bridget, B&B) has landed a juicy role on the HBO
vampire series TRUE BLOOD. In its second season, Jones will play a
waitress named Daphne for six episodes. "I know very little about her
but I'm really excited about finding out," enthuses the actress. But
don't worry, she's not leaving daytime. "I'll be doing both shows,"
smiles Jones. "That's got me really busy but I feel very blessed."

Crystal Hunt To OLTL
Crystal Hunt (ex-Lizzie, GUIDING LIGHT) joins ABC's ONE LIFE TO LIVE
next year in the new role of Stacy. "She is a trouble maker," head
writer Ron Carlivati teases. "It's great to be back in daytime! I'm
very excited to be working along side another very talented cast,"
beams Hunt. We'll meet Stacy on Feb. 6 and she'll be connected to a

Spoilers for down the road: 2009 preview

Grant Aleksander rejoins the cast as Phillip Spaulding on February
6th. David Andrew MacDonald returns as the Prince of Darkness -
Edmund Winslow on January 22, 2009. Both returns will have huge
impacts on Springfield.

Edmund's return will mean big changes for Reva, Josh, Jeffrey, Shayne
and Dinah - all of those who he feels have wronged him (or are
related to them). With Cassie gone to Hawaii, Edmund's focus is on
those who he feels let her move on without him.

Phillip's return (during a wedding, TPTB reveal) will certainly have
impact on the Spauldings - Lizzie, Beth and Alan, the Coopers, ex-
wives Blake and Olivia and BFF Rick. But which Phillip will be
returning? He has something up his sleeve (like Edmund) but we won't
know what all they are up to for awhile - which is a good thing.

Phillip and Alan square off both with Alan's shooting of him and his
relationship with Beth. Phillip's return happens at a key point in
the Coop/Beth/Alan romance. But who will Beth end up with? Beth will
share airtime with her other ex-husband (Edmund) as well.

Phillip and Reva will connect now that they share a grandchild (baby
Sarah). In the meantime, Reva's big goal is to give birth to a
healthy, happy son. Jeffrey and Reva butt heads over her ideas, but
Jeffrey does all he can to protect Reva and his son. Reva and Jeffrey
will have great scenes with child birthing classes and a huge baby
shower. TPTB do promise that despite some close calls, Reva will give
birth to a healthy son.

Beth and Coop's relationship comes out into the open - which will
bring out a lot of drama for many of Springfield's citizens. With the
return of Phillip, and the anger of Alan, can their relationship
survive? When Alan learns the truth, he issues Beth an ultimatum
which affects many in Springfield.

Shayne has a lot of emotional baggage to unload before he move on -
but look for his relationship with Dinah to be a good move for both
people with bad luck in love.

Phillip owes Blake an apology for his part in Ross's death. Will
Blake ever forgive her ex?

With Ava out of Springfield, Remy will grow closer to Christina. He
really wants to help her with the goal to become a doctor. She'll be
tempted with some dangerous choices, but Remy will use his experience
to try to get her back on track.

Phillip's return means more challenges for Rick - and hopefully more
airtime! Rick and Olivia's bond over their heart transplants will
continue to flourish. Natalia and Frank grow a little closer,
finally, and Natalia does something for Frank when he needs a favor
the most.

Last year gave Lizzie and Bill a number of tests to their
relationship, which will continue. After all of her problems with men
and relationships, Lizzie wants to take a break from love for awhile,
leaving Bill to have to work hard to keep her love alive. But GL's
writers state that this couple will have happiness in the new year.

Bill's parents have their hands full with Bill and Dinah. Billy still
thinks of getting back with Vanessa, once things settle down a bit.

Phillip's Aunt Alex will see more air time and fans will see how all
of the family struggles have affected her.

Dinah and Grady's schemes are over, but their secrets keep the
connection strong. Both will pay in some way for Lizzie's kidnapping .

Frank and Natalia finally take a chance on romance in 2009. And Rafe
will be released from prison.

Mallet and Marina try to adopt in the new year.

--From Soap opera Digest and Weekly Insider (about all soaps)

These are from last week, they haven't sent a new one since.

SOAP OPERA DIGEST INSIDER

December 31, 2008

Greetings From The Editor
Stephanie Sloane

Dear Readers,
The New Year is kicking off with a bang all over daytime. GH's Jason
will
be pushed to make his most difficult choice yet, while newlyweds
Robin and
Patrick face a serious medical issue and Carly and Jax try, try again
to
make things work. In other news, Y&R's Sharon dumps Jack and ATWT's
Lucinda will finally find out that Brian is gay -- from a most
unlikely
source. We also have the exclusive exit interview with DAYS's Blake
Berris, whose run as Nick comes to an end on January 15. "If you're
going
to go out, there's not a cooler way to go out," he told me. "I was
basically playing my dream role right at the end there." But the best
part
of the new issue may just be the treasure trove of old pictures that
we
found of your favorite stars. Check all of this out -- and more -- in
your
next issue and I hope you all have a happy and healthy 2009.

TALES FROM THE INTERVIEW

STEPHANIE SLOANE: I first met Grayson McCouch in 1993, when he joined
ANOTHER WORLD as Morgan. We had our first sit-down interview in 1994,
where he told me, "You are not a good actor until you have had 20
years."
When I brought it up to him during our most recent interview, he
laughed,
"I said that? That's cool. I got 25 on me now. That's just
professionally.
I educated myself at this game. This is what I am going to do for
life and
it feels great to be 40 and be getting paid." The actor, who hit the
four-decade mark in October, gave a revelatory look at his year away
from
Oakdale, which included a disappointing trip to Los Angeles, the
heartbreaking death of his beloved dog, George, and a life-changing
trip
to Italy with his mother. "I came back invigorated to come back and
looking forward to coming back and wanting to come back in a different
shape and form," he told me. "The year I was away from that show was
like
nothing I had estimated, so finding myself back on AS THE WORLD
TURNS, my
perspective has changed. My perspective on the people around me has
changed, everything has changed." To hear more from the introspective,
intelligent McCouch, who postponed leaving for his country house to
chat,
saying, "I'm finishing my interview with you first before I get on the
road. Stephanie, seriously, I didn't want to be driving for this
interview
because it was important to me," check out the next issue of Digest.

I had a two-fer this issue, because in addition to McCouch, I also
interviewed Kevin Dobson (Mickey, DAYS). Now, I have to confess that
I am
a huge KNOTS LANDING fan (the brass at SOAPnet knows this well; I was
near
devastated when they stopped airing the show and told them all about
it)
and Mack McKenzie was my favorite character. So, needless to say, I
was
pretty thrilled when he joined the cast of DAYS. I spoke with the
actor
right before their holiday break and he dazzled me with stories of
how he
broke into acting. It was a long, hard road for Dobson, who worked on
the
Long Island Railroad and as a taxi driver to make ends meet. He hit
rock
bottom in L.A. in the early '70s and revealed, "I had 0;walking
pneumonia.
I ran out of gas and I had to coast down to a gas station and at the
time,
gas was 47 cents a gallon and all I had was 46 cents. I got the
gallon of
gas and I was done. I could not rub 2 cents together. I still had the
passion for my acting career, but I was finished." The next day, he
booked
a role on KOJAK and he has been working ever since. Though he'd like
to
see Mickey in Salem more, he's happy to be an employed actor. Read all
about him in the next issue.

CAMPAIGN TRAIL
You gotta love soap fans' creativity -- Digest regularly receives
doodads
and goodies from readers who know how to make a statement.

Elaine G. Flores: As you'd expect, soap fans took advantage of the
holidays to come up with attention-getting themes for their
campaigns.

-- ATWT's Luke and Noah devotees created a bound book of letters to
Santa.
Their wishes ranged from more shirtless scenes to interaction with
Noah
and Dusty to "better living arrangements for them where they don't
have to
worry about Grandma Emma's rules."

-- AMC's Zach and Kendall fans sent a 'Twas The Night Before Christmas
poem, custom-tailored for their favorite duo. This version started off
with: " 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Slater
house not a creature was stirring, not even a back-stabbing sister or
a
pseudo-lesbian louse." It concluded: "Zach laughed and cuddled Kendall
close, 'Oh, my love' he said, 'Anyone who tires to get between us is
toast!' Team Slater together again is truly a sight, And they want to
wish
'Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!' " Someone also
created
a really pretty pop-up card of the duo.

-- A crafty DAYS viewer put together a lovely fabric Christmas banner,
embellished with pictures of Steve and Kayla. There was also a bottle
of
Korbel "To ring in 2009 with hopes that Steve and Kayla get a great
new
storyline." Talk about champagne wishes.

-- Also in the mix: A cute card urging Y&R to reunite Lily and Cane,
whose
images were superimposed on to ornaments and a wish for "Happy
Phickalicious Holidays" from the Nick and Phyllis crew. The fans
included
their names and how long they've been watching from just one to 35
years.... DAYS "Ejami" fans note that just one EJ/Sami hug can "make
those
winter chills disappear.".... GH's Jason and Sam fans are delighted
that
the pair are "Coming Home For Christmas" and ATWT's Jack/Janet fans
are
cheering that "Our Christmas Present Came Early" with the newlyweds
nups.

Here's hoping all you soap fans have daytime dreams come true in
2009.

TYPE SET

I have been watching DAYS since 1985. I've shed my tears (a whole
box). I
have been continuously angered and shocked by both storyline and
casting
changes, but I have to say that this move [firing Deidre Hall and
Drake
Hogestyn] is insane.... But I take comfort in knowing that there will
never be another Marlena and John, as they have set standards and
provided
a quality of work that viewers have come to expect. They are
icons.....

IN PERSON

A few years ago the Rite Aid Health & Beauty Expo came to Sacramento,
CA.
My mom and I played hooky from work so we could attend. Here's a
photo of
my mom, Dee Perry, and Jackie Zeman (Bobby, GH) and Jackie and I. She
was
such a sweetheart! She took time to chat with everyone, sign
autographs
and pose for photos. Drake Hogestyn (John, DAYS) was also at the
Expo. We
didn't get a chance to meet him. His line was REALLY long, he's a
popular
guy you know! Ha Ha! Lori Hannah, Citrus Heights, CA

TRIVIA TIME

STAR FACT
ATWT's Noelle Beck's (Lily) husband is a restaurateur and owns The

A. Believe it or not, we've got a feature coming out on Miller in the

touching memories. Copy Chief Michael Karol loved the episode. Read
why in our We in Weekly section.

 THE TOP 10 PLUS

Y&R's Abby (Hayley Erin)
—JPI
1. ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Tea has been getting under everyone's skin,
including Todd's, as she has kicked butt in court trying to help Todd.

2. If GENERAL HOSPITAL's Sam is so "independent" and knows how to do
a job and work people, why is Jason constantly saving her from
trouble?

3. ALL MY CHILDREN's Dr. Sinclair must not be such a great doctor,
since she has already taken advice from Ryan...

Brooke and Taylor by sleeping with two brothers from the same family.
Who's next — Victor?!

5. If she gets any nuttier, OLTL's Marty might be joining Brody and
Jessica at St. Ann's.

6. AS THE WORLD TURNS and GH should do a crossover and reveal that
Craig is really Ryan Chamberlain.

7. YOUNG AND RESTLESS' Chloe could use some comeuppance for her
troublemaking...someone should blackmail her into becoming a maid,
like mom Esther!

8. Okay, we teared up during the Dec. 26 episode of Y&R, when Michael
experienced his own version of It's a Wonderful Life.

9. GL's Bill was accused of his own kidnapping, and Shayne saved
Doris from a blaze he created. Will Coop's next student be himself?

10. Suddenly, knitting and crocheting are popular on the Bell soaps,
with B&B's Pam and Y&R's Chloe both getting a piece of the, well,
action.

11. O, holy overnight! Y&R's Abby is suddenly a young woman (the
lovely Hayley Erin). We'll miss you, Darcy Rose Byrnes.

 THE WE IN WEEKLY

The late Eileen Herlie (ex-Myrtle, AMC)
—ABC
•From Copy Chief Michael Karol: The December 19 episode of ALL MY
CHILDREN, a tribute to the late Eileen Herlie (Myrtle Fargate), was
not only a bittersweet valentine to Herlie and the fabulous character
she played for more than 30 years, but an early holiday present to
longtime fans of the show, as well. For once — in a long time — AMC
did something absolutely right, and in the best tradition of the TV
soap opera. The tribute episode was wonderful — sad, funny, touching,
respectful, and everything it should have been.

Herlie, a classical actress, brought out the best in every other
actor she played opposite, especially pros like Susan Lucci (Erica),
Jill Larson (Opal), Darnell Williams (Jesse), Debbi Morgan (Angie)
and Thorsten Kaye (Zach). The writers' device of having Myrtle send
presents to all her Pine Valley friends ("all her children") — that
were opened after her death — was simple yet effective, and a natural
trigger for flashbacks (expertly chosen and blended in with a
memorial service held at a makeshift carnival, courtesy of Zach and
his construction crew). For example, when Opal opened her gift,
Myrtle's crystal ball from her "carny" days, it triggered a memory
that taught Opal's son Petey that Myrtle was much more than the "nice
old lady" he thought he knew.

Zach's loss of his dear friend (on top of Kendall being in a coma)
drove the macho man to lock himself in an elevator at the memorial
service, tears streaming down his face, not able to face anyone. It
was a touching, true moment, of the kind that's rare on AMC or any
soap these days. I found myself tearing up on any number of
occasions; it became obvious that every actor sharing his or her
memories really felt a strong loss at Herlie's passing.

I've been watching AMC since the early 1980s, and this episode
compares favorably with any of the best. One can only hope that
Herlie, and her equally fantastic AMC cohorts Langley (Louis Edmonds)
and Phoebe (Ruth Warrick), are stirring it up somewhere else in the
cosmos. I miss their presences here.

•From Assistant Editor Julie Globus: I really enjoyed watching
Greenlee seeing Ryan, Annie and Emma's home video on AMC. Something
needed to make her feel like the homewrecker she is (not that Ryan
doesn't shoulder the blame, as well). What they've done to Annie was
painful to watch, and it was nice to see that addressed...finally!

•From Senior Editor Gabrielle Winkel: It's Tuesday, and I'm watching
ONE LIFE TO LIVE, which is what I'm usually doing at around 2 p.m.
Again, I beg the people at OLTL (and A Martinez) to please bring Ray
back for a longer stint in Llanview. And here's why: There was more
electricity between Tea and Ray on the telephone than I've seen in
the past few weeks between Cristian and Vanessa in person. There,
I've said it. Moving right along, it's gotta be said that love does
sometimes make men and women stupid. Todd is so besotted with Marty
that he doesn't see a train wreck in his future.
