****Bold and Beautiful's Executive Producer and Head Writer, Bradley Bell,
in his usual fashion, had asked all the B&B cast and crew not to talk about
the gripping storyline of Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) shooting Dr. Taylor
Hayes (Hunter Tylo), before the fans had a chance to see the dramatic
episodes for themselves. However, while the complex plot was being developed
and taped by the show, Internet rumors were rife with speculation on the
storyline and Tylo's contract status. During the summer months, B&B plots
were boiling with the evildoings of bad girl Sheila Carter. Tylo's character,
Dr. Taylor Hayes, who for twelve years has epitomized the virtues of love and
compassion for the show's millions of fans worldwide, is the ideal contrast
to the murder and mayhem caused by Carter. "It's a clash of the titans,"
promises Bradley Bell. "Hunter's fans won't want to miss her sterling
performances battling the forces of evil determined to exact revenge on the
House of Forrester." For weeks, Internet message boards have been buzzing
with speculation by fans, who imagined off-screen rivalries, lawsuits and
temper tantrums by various members of the show's close-knit cast. "Contrary
to published rumors, all of our actors handled these scenes with the utmost
professionalism and civility," says Rhonda Friedman, Supervising Producer of
B&B, adding "Hunter's scenes represent 'B&B' at its finest." Senior Producer
Ron Weaver, who handles the business matters for the show, emphatically
denies the allegations that Hunter Tylo ever "threatened litigation."

****Over at the Guiding Light don't look for Harley's daughter to return
anytime soon. The actress who portrayed Susan -- Brittany Snow -- has gone on
to prime time's American Dreams, which has just been picked up for a full
season. Snow, who plays Dreams' Meg, began on Guiding Light as Harley's
daughter, Susan, back in 1998. She left the show in 2001 and was quickly
snapped up by Hollywood for this prime time show. Meanwhile, on Dec. 20, look
for a 2-hour send-off for Melina Kanakaredes's (ex-Eleni) show, Providence.
The show, which lasted for five seasons, will bid the network adieu. In the
coming weeks though, keep an eye out for former daytimer, Lauren Holly
(ex-Julie, AMC) to make a guest appearance. Does this mean a return to GL for
Kanakaredes? Only time will tell, but considering the star is pregnant again,
anything is possible as daytime is notoriously mom-friendly for actresses.

****Fresh from his stint as Whip Jones on The Bold and the Beautiful, Rick
Hearst joins General Hospital as Daniel. ABC has cast the daytime veteran as
a mysterious stranger that Jason and Carly stumble upon on a South American
adventure. Once he lands in Port Charles, Daniel will be particularly
interested in the underworld of Alcazar and Sonny.
Hearst may be best known for his portrayal of Alan-Michael Spaulding
On Guiding Light but made his debut as Scotty Banning on Days of our Lives.
Later, he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless playing bad boy, Matt
Clark. Look for his first appearance on Friday, Nov. 8. ****Gretchen Palmer
(Serena), who joined The Young and the Restless in May,
has been released from the show. The actress will wrap up her six-month stint
on Nov. 15. "In my gut, I kind of knew it when Drucilla [played by Victoria
Rowell] came back," says Palmer of her release. "She's got such a great
following. I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to do scenes with her." Palmer
will remember her Y&R days fondly. "I had a great time and Kristoff [St. John
(Neil)] and I did some great work," she shares. Palmer, who recently put
together a new creative team, is looking forward to making the transition to
primetime. "Y&R made me ripe," she declares. "Acting on a soap makes you
better 100 percent." She'll stay on her toes, literally. "I teach dance to
children in Pasadena: Jazz, ballet, African as well as drama," she says. "We
put on little shows." Y&R states that they will miss Palmer and wish her the
best in future endeavors.

****According to sources who were there, Matha Byrne (Lily/Rose, ATWT) knows
how to throw a good party. Only a month after giving birth to her second son,
Maxwell, Byrne hosted the eighth annual Daytime Television Salutes St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital benefit on Oct. 18 at the Marriott Marquis in
New York City. The event catered to more than 700 guests and raised $200,000
for the facility dedicated to children suffering from catastrophic diseases,

regardless of their financial status. But Byrne credits the event's
incredible success to her mom, Mary. "The event wouldn't have been this big
without her... She was on the phone from 6 am to 10 pm calling about this and
that donation and reminding people." After witnessing the Tennessee-based
facility first hand during the As the World Turns bus tour, Agim Kaba (Aaron)
shared his experiences. "I was a little hesitant at first because I hate
seeing kids who are hurt," he shared candidly. "But it's a very happy
atmosphere... The way they make it like a family there, it's very
comfortable."With stars appearing from nine shows and both coasts, guests
were in for a night of surprises. Robin Christopher (Skye, GH) along with
husband Matt Crane (ex-Matt, AW) felt a nostalgic tug being back in the Big
Apple. "We lived here for 14 years, then we moved to Los Angeles and that's
where we live. But the minute we get back here and walk around the streets,
this feels like home."Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth, GH) was eager to let her
husband, Michael Saucedo (ex-Juan, GH) take center stage to discuss his
newest musical project. "I'm going back into the studio and working with
[producer] Jelly Bean Benitez," he declared. Eager to return to GH, Saucedo
encouraged fans, "If you want me back, you have to write in and let them
know."Musical performances by the Party Dolls, and by daytime stars
themselves peppered the night. ATWT's Scott Holmes (Tom), in flannel and a
baseball cap and Paul Taylor (Isaac) got the crowd jumping with their own
rendition of Eminem's "Business." "I figured someone had to do him, and I'm
just the man to do it," Holmes declared. Kate Linder (Esther, Y&R), Days
Patrika Darbo (Nancy) and Kevin Spirtas (Craig), GL's Billy Kay (Shayne) and
others rushed the stage to shake their groove thang to the thumping
beat.Byrne aptly closed out the night singing "We are Family," and vowed to
be back next year. "Seeing this room and how amazing it is, it's got to be
here," she exclaimed.

****Congratulations go out to MELODY THOMAS SCOTT (Nikki, Y&R) who has been
ranked as the second most popular female personality by Women's Wear Daily's
"The Q Ratings." The survey was conducted by Marketing Evaluations Inc.

****Arianne Zuker (Nicole, Days) knows the secret to dressing your best.
Taking to the runway at Soap Opera Digest's 3rd Annual "Women of Style"
Fashion Runway Show and Benefit, Zuker wore a Bradley Bayou lace gown and
little else. "I did kick off my shoes," she exclaims. "Everyone likes to look
beautiful. But it's more about enjoying yourself and being comfortable in
your own skin." Her sentiments echo the goals of Dress for Success, the
charity the Oct. 22 event benefited. Dress for Success offers programs for
underprivileged women who want to enter the workforce and provides them with
donated professional clothing. Fellow daytimers Kelley Menighan Hensley
(Emily, ATWT) Eden Riegel (Bianca, AMC) and Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL) and
several models displayed the designs of Bayou, Anne Bowen, Halston and Heidi
Weisel. Catherine Hickland's (Lindsay, OLTL) cosmetic company, Cat Cosmetics
(CatCosmetics.com), helped sponsor the event and provided all the makeup work
backstage. "I did Arianne and she looked gorgeous ... [The entire show] was a
big undertaking." Hickland, who just launched a skincare line, offers the key
to creating a flawless face. "You've got to have great skin," she declares.
"Start with a great canvas. Then paint it up!"

****Guiding Light takes home top honors at the 2002 SHINE Awards, which

University's Megan Goldkamp is Dara and University of Missouri's Soterios
Vainalis plays Alex... Beginning Oct. 31, Butler University's Jon Rowland

NEWS, COMING & GOINGS

Moss recalls filming Taylor-made finale

In a daring move, "The Bold and the Beautiful" will kill beloved Dr. Taylor
Forrester on today's episode.

"Ridge and Taylor share a dance," says Ronn Moss, who plays Taylor's loving
husband, Ridge. "It's more of a standing embrace to music; one last in-your-
arms moment."

Then Taylor dies, the sole victim of a bloody shootout with Sheila last week
.

When the action picks up Monday, Ridge's mom, Stephanie, will enter Taylor's
hospital room to find Ridge collapsed in grief on the floor.

"It's hard for me to talk about," says Moss, who is very close to Hunter Tyl
o, who played Taylor. "It was very, very hard to tape it. It was kind of lik
e it was really happening. We haven't sat down after the fact and gone over
how we feel about [Tylo being let go], but we both know."

As next week plays out, the bad news will spread, and the Forresters will ha
ve to plan Taylor's funeral.

"It had to be hard for her to lie there during that open-casket type of fune
ral," Moss says. But "it's not drawn out too long; it's pretty short and swe
et."

There are fireworks at the funeral, too, courtesy of Taylor's father. "He's
not too happy with Brooke being there and he makes that known," says Moss. "
Brooke and Taylor were getting along great when she died, but Taylor's dad d
oesn't know that. He's been out of the loop."

And don't think Ridge won't have choice words for Sheila, either.

The toughest thing for Ridge will be having to deal with their three childre
n.

"Just getting through it is all Ridge is concerned with now," Moss says. "He
's just getting on with his life and making sure his kids go through their o
wn grieving. We all forget to do that. We have a tendency in this society to
negate that side [of death] and just expect everyone to move on. It doesn't
happen that fast."

Well, on soaps, it does. Look for newcomer Dr. Tricia Quick - a grief counse
lor - to help Ridge through his loss.

Who's Going To Italy?

When THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL tapes scenes in Portofino, Italy, the week of
November 4 (to air in December), cast members making the trip will include:
Darlene Conley (Sally), Jennifer Finnigan (Bridget), Susan Flannery (Stephan
ie), Winsor Harmon (Thorne), Joe Mascolo (Massimo), John McCook (Eric), Dan
McVicar (Clark) and Ronn Moss (Ridge).

PALMER OFF Y&R

Gretchen Palmer (Serena), who joined The Young and the Restless in May, has
been released from the show. The actress will wrap up her six-month stint on
Nov. 15. "In my gut, I kind of knew it when Drucilla [played by Victoria Ro
well] came back," says Palmer of her release. "She's got such a great follow
ing. I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to do scenes with her." Palmer will
remember her Y&R days fondly. "I had a great time and Kristoff [St. John (Ne
il)] and I did some great work," she shares.

Palmer, who recently put together a new creative team, is looking forward to
making the transition to primetime. "Y&R made me ripe," she declares. "Acti
ng on a soap makes you better 100 percent." She'll stay on her toes, literal

Sex the Best Beauty Treatment, Says Joan Collins

For 69-year-old British actress Joan Collins, sex is one of the best and che
apest beauty treatments there is.

The actress, currently on husband No. 5, said she was not a fan of plastic s
urgery, telling BBC World Service in an interview: "I think liposuction is s
omething so horrible -- they have so many disasters with it."

"Dolly Parton has face like a doll, you know, it doesn't look right to me,"
said the actress, currently promoting her new book "Joan's Way -- looking go
od, feeling great."

Collins said she was convinced that sex was "one of the best and cheapest be
auty treatments there is."

Casting News!

B&B: Tamara Davies (ex-Amy, PC) has been cast in the contract role of Tricia
; she first airs Tuesday, October 29.

Meet the new 'It Girl': Ashley Williams (ex-ATWT) of Good Morning Miami
Nearly every TV season brings a newly designated "It Girl."

Last fall, Jennifer Garner of Alias was clearly "It." In years before that s
he was Keri Russell of Felicity. Jenna Elfman of Dharma & Greg. Sarah Michel
le Gellar of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A title first bestowed on silent-scre
en siren Clara Bow, "It Girl" had racier overtones 75 years ago. Now, in the
television age, "It" anoints an emerging starlet who - by some alchemy of h
ype, buzz and happenstance - seems to lead the pack in fresh-faced appeal ..
. a gal the whole nation can have a crush on.

This fall, Ashley Williams is a shoo-in with her new romantic comedy, Good M
orning Miami, which airs on NBC Thursday at 9:30 p.m. EDT.

She plays Dylan Messinger, the pixieish hairstylist for a local morning TV s
how whose snarky host (played by Matt Letscher) she is dating - much to the
consternation of the show's just-hired producer (Mark Feuerstein), who is no
t only Dylan's new boss but also her tormented secret admirer.

And can any viewer blame him? With her larky presence and dazzling smile, Dy
lan (that is, Williams) is the essence of It-itude.

"They needed a new Fall face," says Williams, flashing that smile gratefully
, "and I was right there, with bells on."

In town during a production break from the Los Angeles-based series, she has
joined a reporter for lunch at a mid-Manhattan restaurant, making her entra
nce clad in jeans, peasant blouse and suede jacket, grinning hello, plopping
in her seat and demurely parking her gum in a tissue. All much like Dylan m
ight.

Williams, who turns 24 next month, has come a long way since March, when she
won the role.

On the other hand, she is no beginner. As a youngster growing up just outsid
e of New York, she staged living-room productions with her brother and older
sister, Kimberly (who now co-stars on the ABC sitcom According to Jim). "Ou
r parents' poor dinner guests would be forced to sit through our performance
s," she recalls.

By her early teens, she was appearing in commercials.

Then she managed to juggle her high school studies with a regular role on th
e CBS soap As the World Turns.

She played Dani Andropoulos, whom she describes as initially "this really sm
art girl next door.

"But after six months of doing that, I marched into the executive producer's
office and said, 'I think that my character should go through a giant rebel
lion.' He said, 'Really?' And I said, 'I will do anything! Let's spice 'er u
p.'

"He renewed my contract and chopped off my hair! Soon I was drinking, drugge
d my boyfriend and did a lot of lurking in dark corners talking to myself."
She was on her way.

Completing high school in 1997, Williams left World ("They sent my character
to Helsinki, Finland") and headed to Boston University's theatre conservato
ry, where "nobody there knew I had been on a soap. For the first time I was
a normal kid."

After college, she spent time at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massac
husetts and understudied for the off-Broadway hit The Shape of Things.

Then last winter, she set out for Los Angeles, where, after landing at her s
ister's house and borrowing a friend's car, she wangled an audition for Good
Morning Miami.

"In the pilot script, the character is sort of a mystery," says Williams. "S
o the night before the audition, I made a list of What Did She Really Want,
and What Was At Her Core - all of the actor's homework stuff I'd learned in
college.

"After I read for the producers, they said, 'What did you do to prepare for
this audition?' I pulled out my journal and leafed through 67 pages of notes
.

"They must have thought, 'Oh, my God, at least she's nerdy enough to commit.
' I think that's what got me the screen test."

A half-year and "a mind-boggling miracle" later, Williams is plushly lodged
on Must-See TV, not to mention living just a block from her sister (they hav
e the same commute to the studio lot where both their series shoot).

And as she presses on toward long-term success, she's relishing her moment i
n the "It" Parade.

"A wild ride!" she says, beaming. "I'm really thrilled to have the 'It Girl'
spot until the next 'It Girl' comes along."
