SHEILA RETURNS!
It's official: As I've frequently hinted here, Kimberlin Brown will
reprise her signature role as Sheila Carter on The Young and the
Restless. Look for the she-devil to raise fresh hell in Genoa City
starting Aug. 5. Per the new issue of TV Guide magazine, Y&R chief
Jack Smith enticed Brown away from One Life to Live — where she had
been playing Dr. Paige Miller — simply by offering her a
contract. "When you have a recurring role," Smith says, "you're open
game."


"Jack made me a really sweet offer," Brown confirms. "I gave ABC an
opportunity to match it and they simply couldn't. It wasn't in their
budget." Despite the fact that Sheila is still a wanted woman, this
won't be a short-term comeback like her last stint on Y&R's sister
soap, The Bold and the Beautiful. "She's got a lot of staying power,"
Smith says. "We just have to keep her one step ahead of the law."

SOAP TALK'S NEW RIVAL
Inspired perhaps by the success of SoapNet's Emmy-winning chat show,
Soap Talk, CBS has conceived its own version called Daytime Talk
Live. The show will feature cohosts Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R) and
Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus, Guiding Light) fielding callers' questions
and interviewing suds stars, but only ones who work on the Eye
network's four soaps, of course. The other catch? It's only viewable
on the Internet at CBS.com — beginning July 19 at 3 pm/ET — so Lisa
Rinna and Ty Treadway needn't sweat just yet. Still, it's a smart
move. "We are always looking for ways to enhance our relationship
with our daytime audience," says CBS Daytime chief Barbara
Bloom. "Daytime Talk Live provides another connection to the loyal
and passionate viewers of our popular series."


As the World Turns
Pregnancy madness hits Oakdale as both Gwen and Jennifer go into
labor! (Considering both women are on very unfriendly terms with the
fathers of their babies, you know there's some ugliness in store.)
Once again, Jennifer turns to Dusty Donovan for aid. Rosanna and Paul
have a second chance at happiness together... until an unexpected
phone call rocks their world. Carly's investigation into her father's
past takes a turn for the worse.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Thomas and Gaby's marriage of convenience takes a passionate turn.
Dante and Nick butt heads. Nick and Bridget make love despite her
fear that he still secretly desires her mother. Speaking of Brooke,
the blonde bombshell begs Ridge to give their marriage another
chance. Elsewhere in L.A., Stephanie has a confession for Taylor.
Will the Forrester matriarch admit to faking her cardiac attack in
order to pressure Taylor and Ridge into renewing their vows? That
pushy Steph also has relationship advice for Massimo. No doubt her
words about his wife Jackie won't be kind! As for Jackie, she employs
her considerable "assets" to solve a mystery.

Guiding Light
Reva plots to set that nasty Nate up for a fall. After ages of
suffering for a crime she didn't commit, Harley is exonerated in the
matter of Phillip Spaulding's murder. Will Alan finally pay for his
treachery? Edmund discovers Dinah's dirty little secret — she lost
the baby and has been faking by wearing a pregnancy pad. The furious
fiend is mad enough to kill her... or do something even more cruel.
When Lizzie and Coop have a conflict, she looks to Sebastian for
sympathy. That's a baaad move, Miss Spaulding!

The Young and the Restless
Michael is suspicious because of Lauren's reticence to discuss her
long-absent son Scotty. The lawyer begins to do some snooping into
his fiancιe's family life. (FYI: Next month, Sheila's comeback will
give Lauren even more to worry about!) Nicholas and Sharon have a
reunion that one would call, er, strained at best. Despite Nick's
return to Genoa City, Victoria wants to remain top dog at Newman
Enterprises. Phyllis fights to retain her job despite Nick's hatred
toward her son Daniel. In the midst of all this, Victor and Nikki
stress out and vow to somehow keep the Newman family intact.
Elsewhere, Dru frets as Devon's efforts to bond with his junkie
mother draw him closer to his dangerous old life. Nikki fears Bobby's
going back to his criminal ways.

ATWT'S Jen And Gwen Give Birth (SOD)
Craig assures Rosanna that he's committed to adopting Gwen's baby,
but is still frustrated over losing any claim he has on his child
with Jennifer. When he spies his son being wheeled into the hospital,
there's no mistaking the gleam in his eye. Craig's indifference to
his biological offspring makes Katie suspicious, even though he is
already adopting another child. Rosanna also grows suspicious of
Craig's sudden change in character. What follows the births is a
story that will eventually encompass most of the cast, but is
centered on Craig, who sired one child and plans to adopt the
other. "Craig is coming into this feeling vanquished because he
believes he was set up by Jennifer and Dusty and he's been told that
there's no way he'll ever get custody of his baby. Rosanna convinces
him that they can move on if they adopt this [other] baby," says Head
Writer Jean Passanante in SOD. "And while he seems interested in
making that effort, his heart just isn't entirely in it. By fate and
happenstance, he is in the hospital at the same time Jennifer's baby
is [brought in], so it's earth-shattering for him." Keeping an eye on
Craig is Dusty, who has gone above and beyond to protect Jennifer's
child. "Dusty is working off of his own memories of what Craig was
willing to do to his own child," notes the scribe. "He sees it all
before him and he's trying to do whatever he can to put a cork in
Craig before he does something terrible--not realizing, of course,
that Craig is possibly about to do something more terrible."
