MELODY'S WEDDING BELLS
It's a relief to know Entertainment Tonight isn't concerned only with
covering weirdo weddings like that of disgraced

schoolmarm Mary Kay LeTourneau and her former pupil. On July 5, CBS
will air Celebrity Weddings Unveiled, an hourlong ET

prime-time special featuring two respectable brides — Holly Robinson-
Peete and The Young and the Restless star Melody Thomas

Scott (Nikki) — renewing vows with their husbands.

"OK, wait, we gotta straighten that out right off the bat," Scott
tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "My husband [Y&R

supervising producer Ed Scott] and I do not agree with the
term 'renewing vows.' It somehow intimates there's something wrong

with the original ones! Ours are still intact. I told ET that, and
their producer loved it because we're the only ones who've

ever said that. So we're billing it as celebrating our first 20
years."

After Nikki's many marriages on Y&R, you'd think another televised
wedding wouldn't appeal to Scott, who's way more laid-back

in real life than her uppity socialite character.

"ET heard we were celebrating our 20th anniversary and they
approached us," she says. "It was completely their idea [to have

a ceremony]. All of a sudden, we were told, 'You have 10 days to put
on a huge, formal wedding at the Wynn Las Vegas. Call

your 25 nearest and dearest. We're flying them all in, no expense
spared!' [Ed and I] are very low-key people, and we'd never

have done this ourselves, but they just made it too wonderful to turn
down. They tempted me with Harry Winston jewels,

designer gowns and Donald Trump's wedding coordinator. So my poor
husband is just indulging me like a good sport."

RESTLESS ROMANCE
Y&R heartthrob Thad Luckinbill (J.T.) is having himself a Mac attack.
Not only is he continuing J.T. and Mac's on-screen

relationship with the recast Rachel Kimsey, it appears he's still
romancing former Mac Ashley Bashioum on his off time. Thad

and Ashley were quite cuddly and close when this reporter ran into
them at a recent party in L.A. Talk about a cute couple.

Speaking of cuties, visit Caught in the Act to see an exclusive photo
of me and Thad!

As the World Turns
Unwed and alone, Gwen considers allowing someone else in Oakdale to
mother her baby after she gives birth. Emily and Paul

share their feelings. When Jennifer goes looking for Dusty, she ends
up encountering his lovely lover, Meg, instead.

Jennifer's deceitful scheming to rid herself of Craig backfires big
time, driving Mike into the arms of her rival. Yes,

that's right, Katie and Mike finally rekindle their old flame and
experience a can't-miss sexual reawakening with one

another!

The Bold and the Beautiful
Despite their benevolent intentions, Thomas and Gaby's sham marriage
comes under negative scrutiny. Stephanie and Jackie turn

on each other yet again. Brooke aims a serious accusation at one of
her female foes. Ridge's choice between his two wives,

Taylor and Brooke, means some emotional goodbyes between loved ones.
Dante has his Italian bedroom eyes on both Taylor and

Bridget. Two L.A. lovers share a forbidden kiss.

Guiding Light
In keeping with the annual tradition in Springfield, high drama
erupts at the Bauer family's July 4 barbecue. Look for fists

to fly! Reva has revenge on her mind after she learns that Nate is
actually Jonathan's abusive adoptive father, Alfred. (That

rotten, lying so-and-so!) Jonathan excels at causing hurtful drama in
the life of his kissin' cousin Tammy. Harley strives to

save Gus from Alan's nasty wrath.

The Young and the Restless
Daniel and Lily grow hopeful as Daniel gets more hazy memories from
the night of the car accident. Will Mr. DUI finally

realize how the late Cassie Newman ended up in his car? Nikki and
Victoria worry about Sharon, who continues to grieve her

daughter's death alone. Out in California, Nicholas seems eager to
find Daniel and exact revenge before the cops can find the

boy first. Gloria plays hostess at the Abbott family's July 4 pool
party, where John's grown kids (Jack and Ashley) don't

enjoy mixing with hers (Michael and Kevin). Despite her upset over
Brittany's pregnancy, Mackenzie risks her heart and her

pride for another chance at romance with J.T.

Comments from Jerry & Liz, from their FC July newsletter

Q: Liz, I love the photos from the play you are doing that just went
up on your site. Will you be doing any more plays?

Jerry, will you be doing any plays with Liz? Will you please let your
fan club know so that I can maybe come see them?

Gillian Garson
L: I will be performing an original one act play called "Twice Upon a
Time" written by my husband Bobby. This will be at the

Depot Theatre in Garrison, NY August 12, 13, and 14th.
J: Gillian, Liz and I will always let you know what we're doing.
Plays, appearances, whatever...you'll know first.

Q: Liz and Jerry, I have a question for you both. If you had to
choose, would you prefer to be a speech writer for the

president or Hugh Hefner's personal assistant? Todder@...
L: A speech writer for the president, so I can tell him or her what
to say.
J: I've heard Hugh Hefner speak and he needs a speech coach and
writer more than Bush does!

Q: Hi Liz and Jerry. Please tell me what I can do to try to get you
both back on GL full time! I've sent many letters. I am

so disgusted with all the changes. What is happening to the show? Why
the changes? J.Treadwell
L: Snail mail works best! Keep writing.
J: J. Treadwell--letters and emails help and so do phone calls - 2 or
3 per week. You can also call the P & G 800 number on

their products.

Q: Dear Liz and Dear Jerry: I am so angry at the show right now. If
they do not bring you back, I'm turning it off for good!

Will you attend Gathering weekend? I come to see you both! I am going
to go bowling, too! Carolyn Priest
L: Yes, I will be attending the Gathering. Thank you for your support!
J: Carolyn, we are angry too and I suggest you keep writing, calling
and emailing. If I'm still on the show come Gathering

weekend, I'll be there. I'll definitely be at the Bloss Bowling.
-----------------------------
Sounds like Jerry is still deciding on what he wants to do. He's not
sure yet if he'll be with the show come October. But how

can he get a straight answer from GL's ptb - "we don't know when
we're going to need you..." Knowing how diplomatic Jerry

usually is in his answers, seeing him admit he's angry adds weight to
how unhappy he probably is.

Gina and Tom interview

I'm posting this for you Silky, I saw it on Gina's board! I think
there is another part of the interview that is in the

magazine, has anyone read it?

Soap Opera Digest

Still Bewitched

As you saw in Digest's 7/12 cover story, GL's Gina Tognoni (Dinah)
and Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan) have fallen for each other,

pretty hard we might add. Here, they continue to give us the scoop on
their real-life romance — with the added bonus of

special insights from GL crew.

Soap Opera Digest: When did you start dating?
Gina Tognoni: We started dating just around Valentine's Day. I was
Tommy's Valentine and he was mine.
Tom Pelphrey: I had a friend here from Ireland and I wanted to get
Gina some Valentine's Day stuff. So me and him were

sitting in my dressing room — we had some time to kill — and wrote
some really crass poems. But they all rhymed, so I was

like, "This is kind of doable since it was sweet that it rhymed
because we took the time." Hey, I just rhymed right there! It

really hooked her right in, I think.

Digest (to Tognoni): Did it work?
Tognoni (hesitantly): Well, they were very thoughtful. [They both
laugh]. Actually I think one of your friends made up, it

was very British....
Pelphrey (sheepishly): There was necrophilia in one of the poems.
Tognoni: I found it charming. And he bought me some fun stuff, like a
stuffed animal — the stuff that girls like — so he did

well. We had a nice dinner together with his friends. He was super
charming.

Digest: Have you met each other's families?
Tognoni: Yes. I spent Easter with his family and Mother's Day. And
his granddad is a big fan.
Pelphrey: My granddad's favorite character on the show since I
started has always been Dinah. So, for his birthday, I got him

an autographed picture of Gina. This was before we were dating. I was
like, "Gina can I get a picture of you autographed?"

And she was like, "What are you going to do with it?" I was
like, "Geez, girl, give me a picture." So my grandfather had it

prominently displayed, so she's been around the family longer than
she even knows.
Tognoni (shyly): His granddad has good taste.
Pelphrey: On Easter, I told my grandmother that I was going to bring
Gina home, but I didn't want to tell my grandpa. I

wanted to surprise him. So my grandma was like, "Okay, I won't tell
him, but I'll make sure he's dressed good because if

she's here and he's not dressed good, he's going to be mad at me." So
we walk in the front door and he goes, "Oh!" He makes

this sound and my mom goes, "Dad!" And he says [casually], "Oh, hey.
Hey."
Tognoni (laughing): It was wonderful meeting the whole Pelphrey clan.

Digest: Do you talk about work when you're together?
Tognoni: Sometimes we do. We never really say, "Okay, now we're not
talking about work." We both love our work so much and we

celebrate it and talk about it. I watch his stuff.
Pelphrey: It's nice to have somebody to share with, somebody who
knows what you are talking about.
Tognoni: We are there for one another.

Digest: What's your working relationship like?
Pelphrey: It's kind of ... like going.... [long pause]
Tognoni: Oh, he's going to say something funny, I can tell. You're
cooking something.
Pelphrey: It's kind of like going to the zoo and all bars on the
cages fall down.
Tognoni: We're wild animals!
Pelphrey: It's a free for all! It's so great. It really is.
Shawn Dudley, GL costume designer: You should ask their co-workers
what it's like to have to work with them.

Digest: I think that's an excellent question, if anyone wants to pipe
in with the answer.
Dudley: Oh, please, they're oogy-googy in the halls.
Martha Smith, wardrobe stylist: You have to make sure you knock on
their dressing room doors.
[Tognoni and Pelphrey start hysterically laughing]
Dudley: It's cute to see them being cute together in the halls. Tom
has a very attentive, loving side, which none of us knew

he had.
Helen Gallagher, GL makeup artist: The best thing is their names for
each other are Babe. "Hey, Babe. Babe? No the other

Babe."
Pelphrey: I think I'm starting to sweat a little.
Tognoni: We refer to each other affectionately often. Seriously, if
there's some issue that comes up, we handle it later. We

don't usually bring it to work. We have a pretty solid line between
work and personal life. I mean, we're affectionate with

one another but at work, we're working.
Pelphrey: Yeah, if we have a disagreement, I'll hit her and she'll
hit me right back. It's very even.
Tognoni: We clean up the blood.
Dudley: They're not in your face about it.
Smith: They are so happy and that's great to see.
Dudley: We don't have to worry about uncomfortable moments. I've been
through studio romances that were so annoying for

everyone. These guys are fine. There wasn't a lot of whispering in
the beginning.

Digest: When you learned they were dating, did it made sense?
Dudley: It totally made sense. It was more like, "It's about time."
Pelphrey: Ah, that's sweet to say.

Bradley Cole News, Does anyone believe this?

There is a post on the Guilding Light Board from a poster claiming
she received this e-mail regarding BC:

Bradley and his fiance, Yasuko Noda, were married last weekend on the
North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. They held a beautiful

sunset ceremony in the presence of family and friends. The fan club
wishes them all the best in their future together.

Does anyone think this is true? If so, maybe we could hope that BC
will decide to leave GL and move to Hawaii to live there

with his new wife!!

apart. What prompts his unraveling? At the same time, what will
Sandy find upon returning home from a business trip? Plus,

in another homecoming, Harley and Mallet make it back to
Springfield. What does this say about Harley's plans to turn

herself in? Meanwhile, Edmund is hit hard with an ultimatum by
Dinah; but at the same time, Edmund is the conspirator of

another ultimatum this week. His is for Cassie. So who will hold up
stronger in the end, Edmund or Cassie?

GREETINGS FROM THE EDITOR
Lynn Leahey

Dear Readers,
"Ther's nothing like a soap fan." I've said it over and over,
everywhere from editor's notes to corporate meetings, but I

know I'm not the only person who is floored by the passion and
perseverence of the daytime audience. Today w're sending you a

sneak preview of the thank-you speeches written by this year's Soap
Opera Digest Award winners (the ballot appeared in the

November 9, 2004 issue — I don't know why it took us so long to get
around to collecting these) and it's clear that even the

biggest stars are humbled by the devotion of their fans. See who
wrote the quote I used to open this letter (as well as who

said, "And my guidance counselor said I would never amount to much")
below — thank-you bouquets from the stars right to you.

WINNERS CIRCLE
Soap Opera Digest Award Winners, 2005

Favorite Show: GENERAL HOSPITAL. This is GH's 10th award for Favorite
Show. They also won in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1997,

1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003.
"We are so thankful to the editors of Soap Opera Digest as well as
the many wonderful fans for this honor. It is a testament

to our great cast and hard-working crew that we have won this award
for Favorite Show, and we look forward to continuing and

upholding the tradition of great storytelling that is GENERAL
HOSPITAL."
— GH Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps

Outstanding Lead Actor: Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH). This is his
fourth award; he won in 1996, 2000 and 2003.
"I love that this is from the fans. They're the reason we do what we
do. I've gotten a lot of nice things from fans over the

years, but this on's always special. The fact that they've welcomed
this character into their homes for 11 years is awesome.

It's just amazing. Someone asked me the other day if this ever gets
old, and the day it does is the day I'm out. But right

now I'm loving it. W've got a great cast, terrific crew. W're telling
good stories, and the response w've been getting from

viewers has been phenomenal. Our fans are the best, so I thank them
for this award from the bottom of my heart."

Outstanding Lead Actress: Tamara Braun (ex-Carly, GH).
"Thank you very much. I am so grateful. I really feel honored to have
been nominated by the magazine for the first time. It

was fantastic and exciting, and then to have won! I want to say thank
you so much to the fans and everyone who voted, because

that's what this award is all about. It's from the fans. I know that
the daytime fans are the most wonderful fans anyone

could ever want so, no matter where I go, I take them with me and for
that, I say thank you. I actually received the award

the day after I finished at GH. I opened it up and I was like, 'Aww,
it's the Soap Opera Digest Award,' so it was a case of

precious timing, and that made it even more wonderful."

Outstanding Supporting Actor: Rick Hearst (Ric, GH). Hearst also won
in 2001.
"I feel like Jimmy Cagney in White Heat. 'I finally made it, Ma. The
top of the world!' Honestly, it's something that [I

strived for] when I first started out. I'd always read about other
people who had been in this medium, or had come on and

made a big splash, and this is such an honor for me to know that not
only the editors of Soap Opera Digest had picked me to

be a nominee, but then, the fans concurred with that. That makes me
feel very lucky and very privileged to be in a medium

that is so giving. I'm very grateful to the readers of Digest, all
the fans, all the people who voted, the show, for giving

me such a diverse part to play. Hopefully I can continue to be a
watchable character for people to enjoy hating for many

years to come [laughs]."

Outstanding Younger Lead Actor: Scott Clifton (Dillon, GH).
"When I first came on to the show, I hadn't even considered Emmys. It
was when Maurice [Benard] had won his Soap Opera Digest

Award for Outstanding Actor [in 2003] and I thought to myself, 'Wow.
He won a Soap Opera Digest Award. That is so cool. I

wonder if next year I'll get to go to the Soap Opera Digest Awards
and get to be a part of that.' And then the next year,

there wasn't a show. And then, lo and behold, almost two years
later, somebody says to me, 'Hey, the fans nominated you for

a Soap Opera Digest Award, and that was the thing I aspired to the
most when I first came on the show. I remember the whole

day that I found out. I wasn't bragging to anybody. I didn't really
tell too many people. I was just tickled, and so happy on

a really personal level because it really meant something to me. I
have the statue in my room and every time I walk by it, I

think of the fans and how lucky I am being here. I smile everytime I
look at it. It makes me happy, and I'm thankful to

everybody who made it happen. Thank you."

Outstanding Female Newcomer: Adrianne Leon (Brook Lynn, GH).
"This is incredible. It's extremely welcoming. Ther's nothing like a
soap fan, and their opinion is huge to me. Our fans are

great. They're the reason why w're working and the reason why we have
our jobs, and I certainly appreciate that [laughs]. I

consider myself extremely fortunate. I love playing a character who
is so passionate and who is so multi-faceted, who's not

your average, everyday teen. This is definitely one of the best years
I've ever had. By far! This is my first real acting

job, so this helps me feel like I'm doing something right. Not to say
I've got everything down, because I do have a lot of

work to do, but this is definitely a nice way to hear that some
people are connecting with and liking the work. I'm so

blessed to be working with this cast. It's a great place to be, and
everybody really cares. Thank you so much."

Favorite Villainess: Jane Elliot (Tracy, GH). This is Elliot's fourth
award; she also won in 1980, 1990 and 1992.
"What comes up for me is that I won my first Villainess award from
Soap Opera Digest 25 years ago on THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW,

and to be able to leave this show for decades at a time and come back
and be embraced by your readers as I have been is

incredible gratifying. I appreciate it enormously. Thank you so much."

Favorite Villain: Ted King (Alcazar, GH).
"A big thank you to the readers of Soap Opera Digest for this great
honor. I've been nominated twice before for a Soap Opera

Digest Award [in 1996 and 1997 for his work as Danny on LOVING/THE
CITY] in the Outstanding Younger Lead Actor category, but

didn't win, so somehow I think winning for Best Villain is a
backhanded compliment [laughs]. I feel so lucky to have this,

because when the character of Luis was killed off, I believed that
was it. I thought I was gone for good. And then the

writers created this wonderful new character of Lorenzo. Although h's
done some not-nice things, h's not a mustache-twirling

villain. There are many shades of gray to him, and as an actor,
that's the best you can hope for. I feel so blessed to be a

part of this team, and so grateful to your readers. Thank you."

Favorite Triangle: Natalie/John/Evangeline, OLTL.
Michael Easton (John McBain)
"Wow. An award for getting to work with two beautiful women? And my
high school guidance counselor said I would never amount

to much. Thank you to Soap Opera Digest and all the fans for their
love and support, and especially thank you to Melissa

[Archer, Natalie] and Renee [Elise Goldsberry, Evangeline] for their
talents and kindness."

Melissa Archer (Natalie)
"Thank you to our wonderful fans for encouraging the story. Thank you
to the writers, to [Executive Producer] Frank

Valentini, to [President of ABC Daytime] Brian Frons and especially
to Michael and Renee who are fantastic to work with."

Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline)
"Thank you, Michael Easton, Melissa Archer, Frank Valentini, [Head
Writer] Dena Higley, Brian Frons and Soap Opera Digest. I

am so honored to receive this award. And yet I know I need to give it
away. It belongs to the fans, the wonderful fans that

vote, post, write in, call in, and tune in religiously on our behalf.
It is your passionate support that inspires us all to

keep working so hard. We want desperately to tell a story that is
worthy of you."

Favorite Teen: Kristen Alderson (Starr, OLTL).
"It is the most special award I have ever received yet, because I
know it is from Soap Opera Digest and it is from all the

fans. Thank you so much."

Oustanding Supporting Actress and Favorite New Couple:
Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). This is Sweeney's fifth award; she won
in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2001.
"Soap Opera Digest does such a great job, they keep the daytime
audience involved and informed! They should get an award

instead of always passing them out.  We have such great DAYS fans —
they are so loyal and supportive of the actors and their

characters! I am honored to win a 'supporting actress' award, I hope
I am as supportive of everyone else at DAYS as they are

of me. Playing a part like Sami is a challenge, but the great cast
and crew at Days makes it so much easier. Bryan [Dattilo,

Lucas] is such a great guy to work with. H's talented and funny...
not to mention hot. I have really enjoyed showing this new

side of Sami with her true love of Lucas. And I'm glad the fans have
responded with this 'Favorite New Coupl' award! I hope

there is more romance for them in the future. Thank you to everyone
who voted — Keep watching!"

Favorite New Couple:
Bryan R. Dattilo (Lucas, DAYS)
"I won, I won. I was so happy. I'm like an established soap opera
star. The award is fondly featured in my living room, along

with my close, personal family pictures, so it means a lot. I'd like
to thank the academy, I've always wanted to say that. I

want to thank Alison Sweeney for being such a good kisser and
bringing the chemistry to the screen and dealing with my

shenanigans on a daily basis. She really should get an award just for
dealing with me. But it's cool. W're joined together

forever now. Thank you to the fans. This is the best thing, because
we don't get viewed in the Emmy categories very well out

here. We get forgotten. It's so amazing that ther's a forum for fans
to actually have a say. I think the Emmys should be the

exact same way; the fans should vote on Emmys. I'd much rather hear
it from the fans. I, I kind of think its, the political

poison is taken out of it that way and its mostly about like, you
know, your, your relationship with people and how you see

you character and how you make your show believable or make your show
a success, you know those, those should be the awards

that we get."

Favorite Return: Judi Evans (Bonnie, DAYS).
"I really do want to thank the fans for voting for me and always
being there, whichever role I'm in. I certainly want to say

thank you to Lynn Leahey and everyone at Soap Opera Digest,
especially Stephanie Sloane, who have always been behind me and

always been very supportive. And I'd like to thank Jim Reilly [head
writer] and Ken Corday [executive producer] for just

giving me the most fun role ever. I'm just completely blown away. I
didn't think it was in the cards and this really was a

wonderful, wonderful surprise. And finally, I want to thank my son,
Austin, for always running lines with me and not letting

me finish until they're right!"

Outstanding Younger Lead Actress: Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca, AMC).
Riegel won before in 2001.
"This win was really exciting. I got an unmarked, brown box in the
mail and at first I was like, 'This could be scary — what

is this thing?' But when I unwrapped it, it was my Soap Opera Digest
Award! I'm really, really flattered and so thrilled. I

want to thank everyone at Digest and especially all the fans who
voted. You are all so good to me! I have two of these now,

so thank you for the bookends [laughs]!"

Outstanding Male Newcomer: Justin Bruening (Jamie, AMC).
"I have to thank Alexa [Havins, Babe, his wife], because she keeps me
sane. My aunt and uncle, because they made me into the

actor I am today; they gave me the confidence in myself. My mom,
Debbie, for giving me life. Judy Blye Wilson [AMC's casting

director], my 'New York mom,' for giving me this job. And I want to
dedicate this award to my mom who passed away, my

grandma."

Favorite Couple: John and Marlena (DAYS).
Drake Hogestyn (John)
"Thank you!!  It is always rewarding when the fans validate our
work.  Deidre and I are so close to our characters and that

the fans 'feel it' makes it all worthwhile."

Deidre Hall (Marlena)
"That's energizing and replenishing to me. It is just so dear and so
reassuring that w're right and it is on the right track

and they do love the couple and it just makes that much more fun to
do."

The Top 10 Plus
What Weekly editors are buzzing about...or not.

1. Taking off with your daughter in tow is all the rage on ALL MY
CHILDREN. See Bianca and Maria.

2. Max and Chelsea's parking session proved that driving isn't the
only thing DAYS OF OUR LIVES' new speed racer does fast.

3. GUIDING LIGHT tried to be all ALIAS in its June 27 episode, when
it started from the end (Gus being "shot" by an unknown

assailant), then went back to show the events leading up to it. (Gus
and Harley are not Sydney and Vaughn.)

4. AS THE WORLD TURNS' Paul and Emily keep having sex on the floor of
his penthouse. Does he not have a bed?

5. How funny is it that the teen cheerleader Carly in Rees's
flashbacks looks more like GENERAL HOSPITAL's first Carly, Sarah

Brown, than Jennifer Bransford?

6. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL's Thomas reminded Gaby that "what
happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." Unless you get busted

there by your uncle.

7. Note to AMC's Ryan: The first rule of Fight Club is, You don't
talk about Fight Club!

8. Kudos to DAYS' John for telling Kate to stay out of her children's
lives and let them handle their own problems.

9. Moving Reese into the penthouse he once shared with Carly and
their family is beyond insensitive — even for GH's Sonny.

10. ONE LIFE TO LIV's all wet! John took off his jacket but kept his
gun and shield when he took a dive off the pier. He

re-emerged with them perfectly in place and then pulled the totally
dry gun on Rex.

11. Only GL's Danny could make this line sound romantic: "You
wouldn't be in my wallet if you weren't in my heart."

For Your Eyes Only
W're working on it for next week...

Mailbag
Keep those items coming! W'll share what we get...

The Great Debate
Applause, Applause for issue 28 went to ATWT's Elizabeth Hubbard as
she embarked on a harrowing storyline involving Lucinda

finding a lump in her breast. Lucinda's combination of fear for
herself and desire to be strong for her daughters gave

Hubbard a wide range of emotions to play, and she handled them all
deftly — even juggling several at the same time. She was

mesmerizing as she went from vulnerable when alone to faux courageous
in front of her doctor to brusquely snapping at Sierra

and Lily — all while her character's life was on the line.

Listening Station
•A late addition for early June — it was Smith Point's "New York"
playing on GL as Harley and Gus ran around, you guessed it,

New York, on June 9. And a cover of the classic Etta James number "At
Last" played when Gus and Harley made love in the

studio as Mallet was released from prison on June 27.

•On June 21, GH's Nikolas and Emily had an underwhelming (for her,
anyway) encounter to their love theme, "Takes Me Away,"

written by Dominic Messinger and Cliff Downs. And on June 22,
Courtney and Jax didn't quite get what THEY wanted out of their

hot lovemaking to "Time For Love," written by Jim Goodwin and Robert
Medici. Both tracks are ABC-owned and the singers are

unknown. (Pssst...if you want all these great GH songs on a CD, the
music department suggests you write in to the execs at

ABC Daytime and voice your support for such an endeavor!)

•During ATWT's ultra-hot June 27 episode, the show opened with
Aqualung's "Strange and Beautiful," then Jack and Carly made

out to 3 Doors Down's "Let Me Go."

Nightwatch
•With BIG BROTHER 6 approaching CBS' summer shore (it premieres this
Thursday, July 7), our on-stands-now July 12 issue

features a preview of the reality show's latest season. Her's an
expanded look at the "Summer of Secrets," as executive

producer Arnold Shapiro opens the door to some newsletter-exclusive
details.
The brand-new, gigantic house (created just for the show) features a
lounge area on the second floor overlooking the enormous

living room, dining room and kitchen. "Ther's more room for alone
time, but you're more easily spied upon by others if they

happen to be on the second floor." Calling the emotion-packed, lie-
laden BIG BROTHER "the ultimate soap opera," Shapiro

enthuses, "the action's unfolding before your eyes. Unlike [SURVIVOR
executive producer] Mark Burnett, who knows who won

before the first episode goes on, we don't know [who will win] until
the audience knows."
Or whether a team will win. The 14 contestants (eight women, six men)
are comprised of seven secret teams. If a team makes

the final two without being "caught" as a duo, the winner scores BB's
biggest prize yet: $1,000,000, with the runner-up

taking home $250,000. Otherwise, the last player standing garners the
usual $500,000. Each team believes they have the only

covert connection; let's hope no one realizes that there are two
players from Texas, two Chicago residents...
The contestants are diverse as always, from an ER nurse named Maggie
and a firefighter named Eric (hmmm, shades of BB3) to a

meteorology student named James and an Arena Football League dancer
named Jennifer. And each one will uncover a secret —

someone els's or their own.
BIG BROTHER 6 features a live eviction every Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT,
then airs Saturdays at 8 and Tuesdays at 9.

•The Joes returned this week in the summer reality series AVERAGE
JOE: THE JOES STRIKE BACK. This year's unsuspecting sucker,

er, star, is Anna Chudoba and this time the Joes battle the hunks to
the end. "We have an undercover situation which I think

every girlfriend would want to do to their boyfriend," reveals
Chudoba. "There is also a surprise visitor in the end." Some

of the rejected Joes get makeovers — including social lessons and
even plastic surgery — to secure a second chance with

Chudoba. "When they were walking towards me, they were strutting!"
Chudoba smiles. See if a Joe finally emerges victorious on

Tuesdays on NBC from 8-9 p.m.

The We In Weekly
From West Coast editor Janet Di Lauro: It was threatening to pour in
the storyline, so DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Jack and Jennifer

moved their outdoor barbecue bash into their living room, complete
with a giant picnic table set up with all the standard

fixings. The idea might have worked, except for one thing: If the
weather outside was so inclement, how come the sun was

shining brighter than ever when Jack was at the grill — and Chelsea
and Max were driving around in his convertible?

From senior editor Joe Diliberto: In another one of those cases of
soap opera déjà vu, both AMC and GH are showcasing stories

that feature new characters unmasked as former intimate acquaintances
who went unrecognized by their old pals thanks to

plastic surgery. But only AMC's Di explained why she doesn't sound
like Dixie: She had surgery on her vocal cords. So what's

Carly's excuse for not recognizing GH's Reese/Charlotte? At least
GL's Reva can claim she didn't really know Alfred well

enough to recognize him under the nom-de-deceit Nate. After all, who
really pays attention to the man you're trusting to

raise a child you forgot you gave birth to in the first place?
