Excerpts from Michael Bruno's column

Hello my friends and enemies. It seems to me the more and more I
write this column the more good friends and dangerous

enemies I make. It also makes me laugh that all of the soap-rags and
someone at every show is told to peruse the column. So

as I sit here with so much inside information, I do have to think
twice about what I write. It's unfortunate, but I sometimes

have to delete my best stuff for the greater good. Let's see who we
can piss off today, shall we?

So GUIDING LIGHT's KIM ZIMMER says no to a fifteen percent pay cut,
and fifteen minutes later, the ax starts to swing towards

other less than…..marquis value names in Springfield. JERRY VER
DORN, MICHAEL O'LEARY and MARJ DUSAY get the pink

slip.......Interesting to me that maybe TPTB knew damn well ZIMMER
wasn't going to take a cut, knew she would open her mouth

to the press and knew that they wanted to get rid of the above
mentioned BEFORE they began their 'plan'. Now it isn't GUIDING

LIGHT'S fault that these other actors got the ax, it's (FILL IN
BLANK). There are supposedly 4 more names on the SECRET LIST,

two are obvious if you think about it and two of them I was actually
shocked about. I was also shocked as to who WASN'T on

this 'bloody' List...

And finally to THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. I watched the same scene I
saw 18 years ago with STEPHANIE 'beating up' Valley

Girl BROOKE. Christ, doesn't SUSAN FLANNERY want to play another
color while she is still on this show? It doesn't work

anymore that she 'hates' Brooke. It makes her weak and a bully. She
needs to get a life, and if it's not going to be with

'Eric', let her go head first to 'Jackie's' guy, Stefano/Massimo.
SUSAN FLANNERY is the anchor of this show and deserves so

much better than what she is given.

Blind Item #1 - This show REALLY dropped the ball when it came to
casting an integral new character. They had not only one

HUGE SOAPSTAR almost signed and delivered, but TWO and then decided
to go cheap. Welcome to the new world of DAYTIME!

Blind Item #2 - This new actor/actress is already on shaky ground.
What are they doing to save their job? Going to more

acting classes? No, 'buddying' up with the shows more powerful
players seems to be this ones
course...

More apparent fallout from the Guiding Light budget cuts: Although
its veteran actors weren't expected to be bumped — due to

an equitable 15 percent across-the-board pay cut — the CBS sudser has
released Marj Dusay (Alexandra) and Michael O'Leary

(Rick) from their contracts. However, GL expects they'll both stay on
as recurring players, a setside insider informs

TVGuide.com. On the bright side, at least Kim Zimmer (Reva) is
staying put.


SISTER TWIST
Since the affable Trent Dawson is on contract as Henry on As the
World Turns, it was inevitable that they'd cast some family

for him. Although Days of our Lives actresses Heather Lindell (Jan)
and Alexis Thorpe (Cassie) are widely rumored to have

auditioned to play his sister, the part won't go to either of them,
says an ATWT insider. So who will be cast as Henry's sib?

B&B Q&A

Hunter Tylo
Dr. Taylor Hamilton Hayes Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful
Last month, The Bold and the Beautiful resurrected Hunter Tylo's Dr.
Taylor Forrester from the grave for the second time. The

fabulous 42-year-old soap vet was killed off the CBS sudser in 2002,
when her character was gunned down by Kimberlin Brown's

sociopathic Sheila Carter. Miraculously, the saintly shrink survived
and has been reunited with Ridge, prompting beleaguered

Brooke fans to ask once again, "Death, where is thy sting?" (Read the
full undead details here.) Of course, TVGuide.com's new

resident soaps expert, Daniel R. Coleridge, has far more pressing
questions for Hunter, concerning everything from her recent

late-night moonlighting to that rumored affair with Antonio Sabato Jr.

Just like back in '94, Brooke and Ridge aren't really married,
because they wed after Taylor was wrongly presumed dead.
How many times can that happen? [Laughs] This has a better spin to it
[than last time], I think. But I would like to see the

character evolve a little bit now.


How so?
One thing that happened before I left the show was that [B&B exec
producer/head writer] Brad Bell and I were both unhappy. We

felt trapped with the character. I told him I was willing to make
Taylor have some major flaws. I thought that was missing...

If Taylor is so perfect, she's got no conflict and nothing to hide
and nothing to worry about! Brad was afraid to go there.

He wanted to maintain the integrity of Taylor and have her go out
that way. Now I think we've got another plan. Some of

Taylor's old flaws will come out — and maybe some we didn't know
about.


Taylor's been very judgmental about Brooke's slutty antics.
I think Taylor's always going to have that holier-than-thou thing.
She's in denial. That's what I like about her being a

psychiatrist. She has all this advice for everybody else, but she
doesn't take it herself! She's a total codependent. She

tries to make everyone happy, then she makes major mistakes trying to
make herself happy because she's denied herself for so

long. That's what I like about her.


Bell has hinted none too subtly that Taylor didn't "deny herself"
during her time away from L.A. We're looking forward to

your love scenes with Antonio Sabato Jr., who first airs June 16 as
mysterious Italian stallion Dante Damiano.
Me, too! [Smiles mischievously] I can make nice chemistry, I
guarantee you, with Antonio. I think I can make that happen!


What about Ronn Moss (Ridge)?
I love working with Ronn because I've known him for so long. There's
a special chemistry between us. We both have funny,

laid-back personalities. We see eye to eye on a lot of things. I like
working with Ronn, but we'll see what happens with

Antonio.


More importantly, let's talk about hair. You have a new, shorter coif
off screen, yet Taylor looks the same.
I'm wearing extensions on camera. Brad asked me if there was a way we
could keep the character from looking too different, or

else the Brooke fans would immediately go, "She's an impostor!"
They're still saying that. They don't want to believe that

Taylor is alive because it threatens Brooke and Ridge. So I have to
keep putting in extensions until we find a place in the

story line where it's appropriate for a haircut. Maybe we can have
Gladys (Phyllis Diller) come back and give me a haircut.

Or maybe Sally Spectra or Brooke could cut it! [Laughs]


Speaking of beauty secrets, you recently hosted a late-night
infomercial for a teeth-whitening product. You were so

persuasive; I broke down, called the 800 number and bought it.
Good for you! It does work! It's a very good product. Your teeth are
white — they are!


Thanks! So is your husband, Michael Tylo, ever returning to Guiding
Light as Quint? It's been speculated that because you're

on a West Coast soap, he wouldn't work on an East Coast show like GL.
Everybody has been talking about that. They were saying that they
heard it wouldn't happen because I was coming back to B&B

and now Guiding Light wasn't interested. I think it's a rumor. I live
in Las Vegas and commute [to L.A. for B&B], and Michael

is doing a 15-week run in the Allentown Shakespeare Festival [in
Allentown, Pa.]. Don't ask me which Henry play it is, but

it's one of the Henrys. He's a total Shakespeare freak.

BLOODBATH AT GL: ROSS IS OUT!

The firings continue on GL. Hot on the heels of the news that Marj
Dusay and Michael O'Leary have been dropped, comes word

that GL's longest-running cast member, Jerry verDorn, has now been
bumped.

JvD: "I didn't know I was going to go resurring, so yeah, I'm
surprised. I've been having a rough week."

Will he stay with the show on a recurring basis? "That's a decision I
will have to amke down the road with my wife. I will

see how I feel."

For her part, Dusay is done. "I will have no contract as of Sept 10,"
confirms Dusay, who says she will not stay on a

recurring basis. "I wasn't surprised, the way they've written the
character over the last year - not being used in Phillip's

murder more and pushing her toward the Coopers. I've lost a little
heart in GL. The characters I've played on soaps have been

unpredictable. When that falls away, I don't have much to give."

Dusay predicts more bloodshed at GL. She says she doesn't know how
many are going to recur. The show has to make changes to

survive.

She doesn't know how or when Alex will be written off. She says with
the atmosphere there, it is NOT the right time to ask.

Lauren and Michael happily plan their wedding, but the ceremony won't
go smoothly. There will be a number of surprises

happening at their wedding. Many past stories will be drawn into
playing this one out. Something will happen for that will

create a wonderful story for them to go forward.

Bobbie and Brittany's marriage will be heartbreaking and poignant.
Other characters will be drawn into their s/l that

normally wouldn't be brought in. Even though a mysterious stranger is
following Brittany, the drama will be less focused on

the mob.

Angry after Craig arrives at a doctor's visit and believing that Mike
has taken Katie's side in the baby battle, Jennifer

goes to BRO to blow some steam off to learn that Dusty has hired her
a bodyguard, an act she is thrilled with, yet Mike angry

with. After a meeting at the Lakeview with Henry and Katie, Mike
helps set up a romantic night up for Henry and Katie but

ends up going the wrong way when it's he and not Henry who shows up
leading to a close moment with Katie and Mike.

Marriages on the Rocks: Part Two
Rosanna arrives to ask Paul for another chance at their marriage only
to encounter Emily who decides against revealing all

about her relationship with Paul. After an unsuccessful meeting with
her husband, Rosanna meets with Craig who has just had a

meeting with Jessica and she advised him to act more adult like if he
wants to gain custody of his baby with Jennifer. Craig

stuns Rosanna by asking her to marry him in hopes of gaining custody
of the baby, but she turns him down and insists she's

holding out for Paul. Emily realizes that she and Paul are only
avoiding their problems, but Paul says he wants to continue

their relationship as they begin to make love and get a surprise
visitor.

Summer of the Teens
Will discovers that Gwen is not properly taking care of herself and
insists that she go to Memorial to see Bob who suggests

that Gwen give his great-grandchild up for adoption and wonders if
Will is the father of her baby. Gwen admits that she

doesn't want the baby but in a way does because it does belong to her
and over breakfast the next day Barbara turns Gwen's

stomach leading Barbara to believe the young teen is suffering from
bulimia. Barbara shares her suspensions with Celia and

Will, but Celia learns the truth, leading Will to reveal he is the
father to spare Celia's feelings and Casey questioning the

truth from Gwen about everything.

Daughters & Mothers
Emma is shocked when Meg returns to Oakdale admitting that her
marriage is in trouble and she is equally stunned to learn of

Holden and Lily's marriage troubles. The Walsh women gather for some
needed bonding time, Lucinda and Lily come to some sort

of terms with her relationship with Keith. Lucinda gets a shock of
her life when her doctor informs her that a lump she found

under her arm will require a biopsy and wanting to keep the health
problem to herself she is horrified when she runs into Meg

at the hospital.

Carly's Past?
Carly leaves BRO to be a full-time wife and mother to Parker, Sage
and JJ. Jack arranges for help in the form of Hannah, her

midwife from Montana. When Carly finds an old picture of her father
she learns it was taken in Oakdale and Hannah is vague

about it and tries to get the photo away from Carly.

All the World's a Stage
Gus and Harley duck into a soap opera soundstage where they are
mistaken for dayplayers. Meanwhile, Alan almost blows his

cover when he levels threats against Bill and Olivia. Gus and Harley
try to find Wallace, unknowing that Alan has sent

Sebastian to kill him. However, when Sebastian sees Harley and Gus,
he wonders the connection between them and Wallace.

Something Wicked This Way Comes
Reva tells Josh to watch out for Jonathan, while Nat tells Jonathan
that he needs to steal money from Lewis Construction. At

the bar, a drunk Nate tells Reva how he feels then pretends to pass
out, when Reva reveals her feelings. Jonathan tries to

copy down the bank codes for Lewis, when Tammy catches him in the
act! However, at Edmund's party, he gives Nate the stolen

codes.



Things Fall Apart
Dinah tries to use Jonathan to piss of Edmund, and it works, when
Edmund levels a threat. Meanwhile, Cassie listens to

Jeffrey while he sings a love song. Edmund throws a party for Cassie
and Jeffrey and Dinah show up. After Dinah's plan

backfires, she goes missing. However, she faked a kidnapping thanks
to Jonathan. However, when Cassie overhears Edmund and

Dinah arguing, she is convinced he had something to do with it! At
Jeffrey's, Cassie and the DA begin to kiss.

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
After making love with Tammy, Sandy gets a mysterious note. When
Tammy finds out that Sandy lied to him about going to work,

she wonders where he could be. Meanwhile, Frank is stunned when
Marina reveals she wants to become a cop.

-- Jaqueline Buckingham appears as a groupie who catches "Jeffrey's"
eye on Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15.
-- Joyce Agu and Uchenna Agu, appear as themselves to meet
with "Ross" and "Blake" on Wednesday, June 15. The Agu's are this

season's winner's of CBS' Amazing Race.
-- David Jenkins appears as a clerk at the Brooklyn hotel

Dear Readers,
The next Digest has news that won't sit will with GUIDING LIGHT fans:
the cast cuts we've reported on are underway, and

Michael O'Leary (Rick) and Marj Dusay (Alex) were on the chopping
block. (After we went to press, we learned Jerry verDorn,

who plays Ross and is GL's longest-running cast member, was also
taken off contract.) All three will hopefully remain on a

recurring basis. GL and AS THE WORLD TURNS were the first soaps I
watched, back when I was a little girl, so it's sad for me

to see budget woes force what I'm sure were painful decisions. The
cuts will keep on coming, on GL and across daytime, so be

prepared. But do keep in mind that going recurring means less
financial security for an actor, but doesn't necessarily mean

they won't be around or involved in story. So keep your fingers
crossed.

You should have our issue dated June 14 by now (Good-bye, Kristina
Wagner!). The next issue to arrive will be dated June 21,

and there's a little twist to our cover logo. In the past, we've
replaced an "o" with a heart for Valentine's Day, a pumpkin

for Halloween and a wreath for Christmas. This year we're doing it up
for the dads. How would you dress up the logo for

Father's Day? See what our design director Ginny Bassett came up with
when Digest hits your mailbox.

AS THE WORLD TURNS

One of the best things about soaps taping in New York City is the
access to all of the great theaters and theater actors.

Sure, soap stars moonlight on the boards all the time, but the
community also provides the crucial day jobs that help

struggling theater actors pay the bills. Only in New York can someone
be an under-five on a soap by day and a star on

Broadway by night! That's what I was thinking when I watched the Tony
Awards on Sunday and saw David Harbour beaming

nervously in the audience, having been nominated for Featured Actor
In A Play for his role in Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?

opposite Kathleen Turner (he lost out to Liev Schreiber). ATWT fans
know him as bumbling Officer Shanks -- for years,

especially in the late '90s, Shanks exasperated his boss, Jack,
because he was constantly being fooled into letting perps

escape. Meanwhile, the winner for Featured Actress In A Musical was
Sara Ramirez, for her role as Spamalot's The Lady of the

Lake. On Sunday, she turned heads with a funny acceptance speech and
a saucy red strapless satin va-va-va-voom number (that

got a later mention from host Hugh Jackman) — a far cry from the
earthy Native American midwife Hannah, who not only

delivered ATWT's Sage Snyder but helped unite the baby's parents,
Carly and Jack, in 2003 and 2004. Hannah's coming back to

ATWT next week, but naturally Ramirez won't be playing her (she's a
little busy). So congrats to Ramirez and Harbour, and a

reminder to soap fans: never take the dayplayers for granted!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

What a weekend of DAYS events! I flew into Los Angeles on Friday and
headed straight to the Sportsmen's Lodge for Drake

Hogestyn's (John) dinner, which included nearly half the cast. Let's
face it: Everyone loves Drake, and it couldn't have been

more evident Friday night, as Eric Winter (Rex), Kyle Brandt
(Philip), Lauren Koslow (Kate), Farah Fath (Mimi) and Martha

Madison (Belle), just to name a few, joined in on the Q&A and
autograph session. A big thanks to all of the readers who come

to my Thursday chats and found me to say hello. It was great to put
faces to the names! There was a minor brouhaha when fans

of John and Marlena saw that John and Kate buttons were being passed
out to the attendees. They made their feelings known

about their fave couple by wearing T-shirts that said: John & Marlena
Forever, And That's A Fact. I left around 10 p.m., but

Drake stayed until 2 a.m. to make sure everyone got a chance to talk
to him! The next morning, Lauren Koslow hosted a

breakfast, where Drake came at 10 a.m. (talk about a quick
turnaround!). They were joined by Kate's on-screen sons Austin

Peck (Austin), Kyle and Eric. The crowd went wild for Austin, who was
a surprise guest. After Lauren's event, I went right

next door to Kristian Alfonso (Hope) and Jason Cook's (Shawn) brunch.
Jason, who is clearly able to poke fun of himself, came

out handcuffed in an orange jumpsuit, a nod to his arrest a couple of
months ago in Iowa. He also debuted his new "headshot,"

which was a blow-up of his mug shot! Jason shared some things he
learned in prison, like you do actually share a cell with a

man named Bubba. It certainly broke the ice with the crowd. Kristian
and Jason were joined by Martha and Heather Lindell

(Jan). Martha, a longtime DAYS fan, showed off her superb trivia
skills. After that, the Men of Days got together with the

fans for more Q&As and autographs. That night, Peter Reckell (Bo) and
wife, Kelly Moneymaker were joined by real-life duo

Kyle Lowder (Brady) and Arianne Zuker (Nicole). The four crooned some
sele

GUIDING LIGHT

A few days ago, I talked with Jerry verDorn (Ross, GL) about going
off-contract at GL. As always, Jerry is the consummate

professional, always gracious, insightful and incredibly funny.
There's not any new news to report for now, but I really hope

GL uses him as a strong recurring player. Too often with soaps
recurring players show up for holidays and well, holidays. I

hope Jerry is an exception to that.

invited Maxie in — or maybe she just wanted her heart back.

8. Creative camerawork on GL made Alan's attic look like the Joker's
lair on the old BATMAN TV series.

9. Maybe Rex's bump on the head from OLTL's Killing Club Killer
caused amnesia? He forgot you're not supposed to use cell

phones in a hospital.

10. While we all went into soap withdrawal due to NBC's pre-emption
for the French Open semifinals last Friday, we quickly

noticed that opponents Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were hot enough
to be on DAYS OF OUR LIVES or PASSIONS. (Maybe one of

them could coach Whitney?)

11. Y&R kept going on and on about how great Jabot's old ads were and
how bad the new one is, but never showed us anything.

Jill's raves about Malcolm's "genius" would have been easier to
stomach if we could see it!

12. AMC's Amanda advised JR to relax and "enjoy the sea air." Exactly
which part of Pennsylvania borders the ocean? (Answer:

none.)

13. Between the flashbacks and fantasies mixed in with Salem's
version of reality, it's getting harder and harder to figure

out what's really happening on DAYS.

14. Courtney's racy wedding-night ensemble on GH is going to make
brides everywhere think twice about a demure, white

negligee.

Reunite John and Kate," they say. And to prove it, they're sending in

The Great Debate
There was absolutely no discussion about the Applause, Applause
winner for Issue 25. Seconds after THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

ended May 24, the die was cast: Sharon Case slayed us with her
performances as Sharon's daughter Cassie died. Only Joshua

Morrow's (Nick) name was even whispered as a dark-horse contender but
vote-wise, Sharon ain't sharin'.


Listening Station
•Worlds collided on June 2 when "Beautiful Soul" by Jesse McCartney
(ex-JR, AMC) played at ATWT's prom.

•On June 6, GH's Sonny and Reese made love in the red light
("Rooooxanne!") to Rie Sinclair's "Glow." The song is ABC-owned,

like the others by Sinclair and Hartry, and not available for
purchase.

•GL's Coop and Lizzie traded insults and flirtation on their June 8
date to John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland."


Nightwatch
•Summer reruns got you down? Tune in to the second season of the USA
network's summer series THE 4400. Hot federal agents and

babies with magical powers make this cable series a far better
venture for Laura Allen than her turn as loony lovestruck

Laura (lovelorn for Leo, no less) on ALL MY CHILDREN and Billy
Campbell (ONCE AND AGAIN) is decidedly smarmy as the mega-rich

and mega-unprincipled abductee Jordan Collier. —MB

The stars came out in droves for DAYS OF OUR LIVES fan club weekend
2005, kicking off with Drake Hogestyn's (John) gala and

ending with James Reynolds' (Abe) annual charity basketball game. At
Kristian Alfonso (Hope) and Jason Cook's (Shawn) brunch,

Alfonso shared that her eldest son, Gino, 15, was starting to talk
about cars, which freaked her out a tad. "I said, ÔNo. I

don't think so. That bike looks pretty good to me,'" quipped Alfonso.
Meanwhile, Cook admitted how much he treasured leading

ladies Heather Lindell (Jan) and Martha Madison (Belle).

"Heather made the character of Jan come alive," raved Cook, adding
that Madison, a former DAYS fan, "brings so much passion

to her work." The Men of Days event proved a laughfest from start to
finish. Kyle Lowder (Brady) made the crowd roar when he

summed up Brady, Shawn, Rex and Lucas' mission to save Brady in a war
zone. "We were the Ninja Turtles," cracked Lowder.

Meanwhile, The Ladies of Days breakfast was a smashing success under
the direction of hostess-with-the-mostest, Arianne Zuker

(Nicole), who manned a microphone and chatted with fans around the
room. The most interesting question was posed to Renee

Jones (Lexie): What's it like working with Rhasaan Orange (Tek)? "He
has the softest lips. That's all I have to say about

him," cooed Jones. "Whoo! It's getting hot in here," added Patrika
Darbo (Nancy), promptly fanning them both off.
