Casey LeBlanc to begin recording sessions March 21 in Toronto

New Brunswick teenager Casey LeBlanc, who last summer went from
supermarket checkout girl to Canadian Idol finalist in a matter of
months, is forming an all-girl group with two rivals from the hit
CTV television program.

LeBlanc, 18, will begin recording a CD in Ontario later this month
with Amber Fleury and Ashley Leitao.

The three have signed a contract with record producer and songwriter
Mark Lalama, the pianist who accompanied them on last year's show.

"I'm very excited," LeBlanc said Friday while babysitting in
Nackawic, the small mill town on the St. John River that named a
section of Route 105 Casey Way in her honour last September.

"I was kind of looking for something like this going into the
competition, and I am really happy to be working with Ashley and
Amber.

"We have similar personalities when it comes to the music we listen
to. We're totally not pop stars."

A paralegal from Calgary, Fleury, 26, wowed the show's judges with
her heartbreaking ballads and haunting voice before bowing out after
reaching the final eight. Leitao, a 19-year-old from Burnaby, B.C.
who works in her family's bakery, hyperventilated and nearly passed
out on stage at the John Bassett Theatre after learning she wouldn't
advance past the top nine.

LeBlanc, who missed her high school graduation and prom while
participating in the singing competition, reached the top five
before being eliminated.

Melissa O'Neil bested runner-up Rex Goudie to win the title of Idol,
and the two are performing at the Moncton Coliseum on March 27,
Harbour Station in Saint John on March 28 and the Aitken Centre in
Fredericton on April 1.

LeBlanc said she had been negotiating with Lalama since her contract
with Canadian Idol expired on Dec. 15.

She will travel to Toronto to begin recording sessions on March 21,
and three women will make their first live appearance as a group at
a club in Niagara on March 25.

Lalama said he hopes to have the CD ready for the market this
summer, but will not rush to get it on the shelves simply to
coincide with Canadian Idol which is currently in the midst of its
11-week cross-country audition tour. The program returns to CTV in
June.

Lalama said his admiration for LeBlanc grew during last year's
competition, when she earned her way into the top 10 with a soulful
rendition of Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home to Me.

Dogged by criticism from judges for several weeks, she made her last
two performances her best: The Pretenders' I'll Stand By You and
Timeless Love by The Guess Who.

"Casey is a natural, she always had the raw talent to do it," Lalama
said. "It's ironic: She got voted off after her two best
appearances. Her last two shows clearly were her best. She really
came out of her shell."

LeBlanc, Fleury and Letaio will collaborate on a handful of songs on
the CD and will also contribute solo numbers. They have yet to come
up with a name for their group.

Lalama credits his brother, Paul, with coming up with idea of
teaming LeBlanc with two other finalists in an all-girl group.

"I thought it would be cool to do a record with someone in the top
10, but who?," Lalama said.

"Then my brother called me and told me he had a dream Casey was
singing in a club and there were two other girls from the top 10
singing with her, that they had formed a trio.

"And I told him, 'That's it!'"

I haven't purchased it, but I didn download it.
Yeah, I liked Aaron too.  I was only able to see the
first few episodes just before they chose the top 12
and initially I was impressed by Daryl. I then
listened to his track from the CD and changed my mind.
His voice is all over the place!!!

Just Wanted To Say That I Just Bought The Canadian Idol CD This Past
Weekend. Has Anyone Else Purchased The CD Yet?  My Favorite Singer On
The Show Was Aron, As Well As Rex.

I would love to hear about your encounters! Did anyone here go see the
Top 4 at the CNE? I did. Did anyone go to the CD release party at the

I really do hope Suzi stays in longer. But, I think Melissa is doing better. Maybe Suzi doesn't transfer well to TV? I think she could pick something Elvis, though it's not her style. She would have a good voice for Love Me Tender if she could get into it, slow it right down and play it up with the viewers. But, I can't really think of anything Elvis I can visualize Suzi doing. I'm not an Elvis fan so chances are good I'm over looking a few dozen. :) I hope she doesn't do Hound Dog, it's not her at all.

 

I'm glad Suzi made it past the top five but (though I will be sad to see her leave) I really think Suzi and Rex are most likely to be next in line to go.

I was going through an Elvis song list and I'd love to see someone do

I watched last night and voted for Suzi and Melissa. Melissa was really better but I keep optimistically hoping Suzi will pick up. She just doesn't have whatever it was that she had in Vancouver. Maybe she's caught in a fairytale and can only be that way closer to home. I really think someone is giving her poor advice though. I know they get coaching and such during the week, between shows. Surely they could tell her to stop holding back or whatever it is she's doing. Someone must have said she was too "raw" and now she's trying to tone it all down. I wish I could shake her and tell her to snap out of it and get back to being great.

 

Last night I though Aaron sang well but needed to move around a lot more for Hot Blooded. Rex was Rex. Josh totally bombed. That was such a simple song, just sing the same line over and over. Could have been done by computer/ robot. Playing the guitar at the end was a bit of a cheat, as Zack said. I wish Josh would be the one to go but I think it may be Casey. She was good last night but not good enough. Melissa was dynamite on fire. :)

We have the same favourites (though I'm not sure about what order I
put them in).  I way preferred last years top 6 but I'm much happier
now that my top 4 made it to the top 6.  I'm not too surprised Josh
went early.  He was too odd for most people so I was pleased he made
it as far as he did.  I'm surprised Aaron has done so well too.

I'm wondering if Suzi's problem is vote splitting with Rex.  I was
beginning to think they had different fan bases but now I'm not so
sure.  They're both rockers and they could be splitting voters.  My
prediction was one of the girls (Amber, Ashley or Melissa) and one of
the rockers as the top 2 and the others to go way before their time.
Ashley and Amber definitely went before their time due to vote
splitting.

I have a lot of respect for Melissa and I often enjoy what she sings.
She's not my taste but I won't complain if she wins.

I really want Casey to go home.  I like her voice but she can't
perform and that puts her way down on my list.  As far as I'm
concerned she was the 9th best in the top ten.
