These two sites have the listings for overflow games. Neither mention
the use of 414 yet, but that would be nice.

Channel 414 has the blue screen with white text that says what it's going to
be used for. so they probably just didn't get around to updating the website
yet.

Looks like Cablevision has solved the problem that occurs when
three or more of the teams they broadcast play at the same time.

Channel 414 is now on the Woodbury system--promising digial
quality of games that will air on Channel 14 (the overflow
channel).

There is a hockey game on Saturday night that looks like it will
be the first to appear on this channel.

Just make sure you have the install instructions printed out right
in front of you. Each cablecard has to be initialized and checked
individually. Do not install the second card until the first is
working properly. Do not forget to check your premium channels
before the CV installer leaves your home.

No active Ch414 on the Oakland System yet.
Having a digital channel system wide that will air the overflow games
makes sense. Of course those who don't have digital cable box will now
need one to see those games. As of now the Oakland system still offers
all the sports networks in analog.

Is it normal for the SA4200 to take 3-5 seconds to switch from HD to
non-HD and vice-versa. Screen blanks out, then comes on. My friend's

Not a major PITA, but annoying.

It's normal if you have video mode set to pass-thru. If you leave it at 1080i
all the time, then it's faster because it doesn't switch resolutions.

Without the cable cards, I was under the impression I could still get
unencrypted channels like CBSHD, etc, but so far all I have is basic
cable (doesn't even look digital). I guess the CableCards are needed
for the full digital cable?

Go to the Tivo support website, search for and print document
01-04-16. This is a more detailed version of the Cable Card
Installation poster that comes with the Tivo. In fact I printed two
copies and gave one to the installer to take with him, He said he was
going to make copies of it and give them out to all his installer
buddies.

My Cable Cards needed to be "opened up", as in, they were fixed to
allow Tivo's Host ID to be properly accepted. This needed to be done
to the cable cards before they arrived at my home. This wasn't
something the installer could do. So you might consider calling
Cablevision and mention the Tivo Host ID issue before your appointment
day arrives.

When you check the channels, check on *both* cable cards. Make sure
you cover the basic and HD versions of any premium channels you are
subscribing to, and the Music Choice channels in the 800 channels
range. This can be done from the cable card screens (forgot exactly
where...) or just go to Live TV and dial in some key channels. To jump
to the other tuner in Live TV, press Info, and then press the down
arrow until the double circular arrows are highlighted, and press select.

Lastly, get a surge protector!! These Tivo boxes are expensive, and we
get lots of lightning in the Northeast. An "expensive" surge protector
is still magnitudes cheaper than a replacement Tivo...at your expense...

Good luck, and enjoy.

No channel 414 on the Norwalk, CT system as of last night. However,
the website has been updated for the next 4 overflow games.
http://www.optimum.com/support/the_game.jsp
It shows that the games will still be available for analog
customers, while digital customers can watch it on 414. It also
shows that the Knicks game on 11/11 at San Antonio will be HD.

http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6387541.html?

New York -- The judge presiding over the copyright-infringement case
filed by cable- and broadcast-TV content companies against
Cablevision Systems -- attempting to block its proposed network-
digital-video-recorder service -- did not issue a ruling at a
summary-judgment hearing here Wednesday.

A decision by Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York about whether to decide the suit in
favor of the defendants or the plaintiffs, or to send the case to
trial, could come within a few days or take up to several weeks.

In two days of hearings this week in Manhattan, lawyers for each
side presented their arguments and answered detailed questions posed
by Chin.

The content providers -- which include 20th Century Fox Film, Turner
Broadcasting System, Paramount Pictures, Disney Enterprises and
broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC -- alleged that Cablevision's
planned network-based DVR service misappropriates TV programming by
generating a second, unauthorized "stream" of programming that would
be stored on Cablevision-controlled servers.

The plaintiffs' lawyers contended that the planned system --
referred to in court papers as "RS-DVR," for "remote server" --
would be tantamount to a massive video-on-demand service that should
be covered under separately negotiated licenses.

"Cablevision wants to double-dip," said Bob Garrett, an attorney
with law firm Arnold & Porter, which is representing 20th Century
Fox. A compulsory license, he told the court, "does not allow cable
operators to deliver programming anytime they please."

Cablevision's lawyers argued that RS-DVR is no different than
conventional set-top DVRs, which allow subscribers to automatically
record and then play back any programming they receive over a cable
system -- a fair use of copyrighted material under U.S. laws,
according to the MSO.

"All we're doing is facilitating the customer's fair use," said John
C. Englander of law firm Goodwin Proctor, representing Cablevision.

Englander also noted that programmers haven't challenged the
legality of conventional DVRs. No specific legal precedent has
established whether DVRs facilitate copyright infringement, although
Cablevision cited the 1984 Sony Betamax case, in which the U.S.
Supreme Court found Sony not liable for creating a device that
enabled copyright infringement.

The planned Cablevision RS-DVR system is based on VOD systems from
Arroyo Networks (now part of Cisco Systems). Cablevision has not
rolled out RS-DVR commercially, having initiated only a technical
trial of the service in Woodbury, N.Y., on Long Island.

The CableCards in my TiVo keep losing authorization. It is
intermittent, and a reboot of the TiVo brings back the authorization.
I've had techs come out three times now. Once for the initial
installation, which went very well. But after 4 days, the Auth Status
on the cablecards diagnostic screens both said CP Failure. A reboot of
the TiVo got my authorization back, but that only lasted 2 days. A
tech came out and replaced both of my cards (he was at my house over 2
hours and went through a number of cards before he finally got two
that worked). One of the cards gave me the CP Failure message again
after 2 days. Again, I had a tech come out to replace the failed card.
He was at my house over 3 hours until we were able to get everything
authorized and working.

That was yesterday morning. Last night, the new card had a CP Failure
status again. I rebooted the TiVo and it came back. My question is why
do the cards keep getting into this state? Is there something on the
head-end that is causing it or can fix it?

During the second fix when I wasn't getting just two stations (704 and
705) on both cards, the person at the head-end was able to do
something to get it working.

There must be a bandwith tech issue on the Oakland system as we are not
getting Ch414. The website says we will get the game in analog on the
guide channel 18 which is remapped to ch79 on the io cable box.

I'm sorry to hear you and some others having cablecard issues. I've
had my TiVo S3 and 2 cablecards for over a month now without
incident. Perhaps it's a bad batch of cablecards out there or the
firmware is different on some cards.

You can leave it at whatever you like. For me, I think my TV does a better job
of upconverting 480i than the STB does, so I use pass-thru and live with the
delay during the resolution change... small price to pay. Your mileage may
vary.

the ability to use all episode recordings on the DVR for these
events. So now my all episode, first run setup of NHL Hockey on INHD

I'd like to know why for Islanders home games the center ice camera is
actually center with the left blue line? I thought a year or two ago
they did have it at center ice position instead of to the left.

That's how it is on DirecTV and it's good that it's like that. As for the
DVR. that's Cablevisions problem and one more reason why they need to give
everyone more features. like the ability to do subject recordings,
recordings based on description, etc.

Did anyone else notice that sporting events are now listed differently
in the IPG? They used to be listed as, NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball,
College Football, etc. They are now listed with team names, road team
first, such as New York Rangers at San Jose Sharks. This eliminates
the ability to use all episode recordings on the DVR for these
events. So now my all episode, first run setup of NHL Hockey on INHD
is worthless. I'll have to double check on my NFL Football setups on
NBC and ESPN. One one hand it's nice to see the teams playing without
having to hit the info button but the loss of DVR functionality is a
bummer.

Whatever brand of CableCard that CV stocks it's not the most stable
ever. My own re-authorizes at least once a week.

Its official (see below). I hope that they do not use the new INHD
channel to show Met games on SNY HD, because we will miss numerous
other MLB games in HD that INHD shows. There are many nights when
INHD has an MLB game on while the Met game is on. SNY HD needs its
own channel, I hope Cablevision does the right thing and gives them
their own channel.

INHD, INHD2 to Become One
(MultiChannel News) Nov. 3, 2006

In Demand may try to put a magic spell on its HD networks.

The supplier of pay-per-view and on-demand programming decided to
merge its two HD channels, INHD and INHD2, into one Jan. 1,
president Rob Jacobson said. That would, he added, create a best-of
HD service.

Some cable operators already dropped INHD2, which shows some
exclusive IMAX movies and concert events that will shift over to
INHD.

What will the new channel be called? That will be
announced "sometime next year," Jacobson said. But there's a "pretty
good likelihood" that INHD will be renamed Mojo. That's the name
given to blocks of original HD programming that currently run from 9
p.m.-midnight Wednesdays and Sundays, featuring such shows as Wall
Street Warriors, Dr. Danger, After Hours with Daniel and London Live.

In Demand is looking at adding a third night of original shows and
possibly a fourth of Mojo before it changes the name of the service
itself, Jacobson said.

I just had my install today. Took forever. No problems, just a lot of
wait time for them to authorize the cards. Working fine right now,
hopefully I'll be free of any major problems.

Who knows what Cablevision will do but it is doubtful that you will see
SNY-HD full time any time soon.
