So many people on here were hoping for a Setember date but apparently
its NOT going to happen. I recently spoke with a cablevision rep and
they said the DVR boxes will be available sometime in October. And I
can't imagine what they will say in October. Delays, delays, delays.

Just out of curiosity, why are you so obsessed with CV CSR reps and
the DVR ??? You can have one tomorrow if you go DBS "HD", TIVO
RePlay for SD etc. The DVR will be here when it gets here not a
minute sooner. As insightful as your numerous posts are regarding the
CSR's giving you a different story everyday. You can fix that too,
Stop calling everyday.

Last time advanced news of ESPN being added was garnered from the CV
info channel (24 I think). Maybe we need to take it in turns to watch it
;-)

I also check the CVC stock page on yahoo daily for press releases.
Nothing yet.

that is his right... you start out with "just out of curiousity".. then you

don't call them to ask about it... but if I did, I wouldn't want someone here

Because he gives people advice without facts. He has told several people
to get a satellite dish because the dvr "is never coming".

Imagine if these people actually took up his advice.

I appreciate people looking for information but as the poster with the
SA1850 shows CV reps are not the place to find it!

I want the DVR too, but there are more important things in my life to
bother and get wound up about.

Everyone is getting on his case because we all already know that the CV reps
aren't the most informed people in the world. Why raise your bloodpressure
with a daily call, knowing you're going to get a different answer,
everytime! I don't agree with the personal attacks, but he could lighten up
a bit and stop with the attacks on the reps. After all, it's not their
fault that they're mis/uninformed...

I have always listened to the Yankees games on radio while watching on
TV (as many other people do). I have been watching the analog Yes signal
on channel 70 using my TV tuner instead of the Sony digital box because
the live action was only delayed one second (with analog) vs five
seconds (with digital). Since yesterday, the Yankees games (yesterday
and today) while watching the analog Yes signal on channel 70 using my
TV tuner is now delayed the same five seconds as using the Sony digital box.

The five second delay in the live signal detracts from the enjoyment of
game. Is this extra delay on the analog Yes signal a temporary or
permanent condition?

Since there is no longer any reason to watch the Mets, I have turned to
rooting against the Yankees ( my usual september/october activity for the past

years)...

I have to say I can not fathom the richest franchise in all of sports not
being broadcast in HD. The picture is so awful.... you would think George
would
have done something about this by now. Perhaps he is one of those old
fogies who could care less about technology...

Whatever the reason is, this is just stupid.

I might never see my team win again, but at least I get to see them lose in
HD.

I guess it depends on the system. Here both the digital and analog YES
have a delay from the radio broadcast. The analog delay is longer then
the digital channel delay. It been like this for awhile now.
The digital channel will have a delay cause it's being encoded from
the analog yes feed.

I believe that the YES network has been broadcasting in HD since July 26th..but
no one has picked up the feed except the luxury boxes at Yankee Stadium. We need
to let CV, D* & E* know that we demand our YES-HD!! Hey.. the Mets may be on

I might never see my team win again, but at least I get to see them lose in
   HD.

there is always a delay from radio , varies from 2 to 5 seconds,
depending if your watching it on sat ,cable or broadcast

Its most likely not Cablevision-- many things can cause radio and
television signals alike to be delayed -- first being the station
putting in profanity delay (in TV recording then playing back off a
profile usually) or radio has a number of options to choose. Other
reasons a signal could be delayed is the path it is taking from teh
stadium to the headend or broadcast center (as is the case with WCBS
games) -- if they are using fiber circuits the delay is next to nothing,
if they are compressing it and throwing it up on a satelite then there
is a fairly substantial delay that gets incoured, and even more if its
taking one sat hop to a brodcast center somewhere then another hop being
distributed out to affiliates.

Oh, btw even the radio telecast isn't complete "live" theres about a
3/4 second delay from the compression on the ISDN lines used from the
stadium back to the radio studio :)

Thanks for your response. I just got off the phone with CV. I told
them what you told me. Their response: ETV was scheduled to be rolled
out in my area August 31st (yesterday) but it is delayed. The rep
said that the problem is with working out the kinks for enhanced News
12 features. He also said that when ETV is available (including
Metro & MSG Director), the SA1850 box will work with ETV. I spoke
with 5 different CV reps and got 5 different answers. I am afraid
what they will say if I call once again :)

According to the attached article Cablevision is the leading cable
company in HD channels. As I have said before, although the
Cablevision HD package is far from complete it is still one of the
best of any cable company. No company carries every channel, but
Cablevision clearly carries more than anyone else. I do notice it
says 16 channels. I think the writer meant 15 including HDOD.
Nevertheless, the nearest competitor is only 13 channels. So not to
preach, but regardless of what some people think here, Cablevision
has the most HD channels.

HBO, NBC top list of HD channels

Karen Brown, CED

A survey fielded by HD consumer education Web site BuyingHDTV.com
found that HBO and NBC have the biggest resolution in the growing
high-def programming game.

The Web site, operated by Solana Beach, Calif.-based technology
analyst firm Kersey Strategies, posted a survey that found HBO and
NBC were tops in HD distribution, with 98 percent of cable companies
in the top 25 markets offering them to digital subscribers.
Discovery HD Theater came in third, offered in 86 percent of the top
cable markets, followed by ESPN HD, carried in 82 percent of the
markets. At the other end of the scale, HD channels with decidedly
smaller distribution include Bravo HD, offered in 4 percent of the
markets, and HDNet and HDNet Movies, each in 42 percent of the
markets. Encore HD thus far is not carried in any of the top 25
markets, according to BuyingHDTV.com.

In individual markets, Seattle rated tops for HD content, with 15 HD
channels available. Chicago was second with 14, followed by Boston,
13.7; and Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Miami and Tampa,
which have 13 HD channels each. On the flip side, St. Louis was the
least HD-savvy of the top 25 markets, offering an average of only
eight high-def channels.

Top cable operators in terms of HD were led by Cablevision, which
offers 16 channels. Bright House Networks came in second with 13
channels per market, followed by Comcast Corp., which averages 12.8
HD channels per market. Charter Communications Inc. offers the
fewest number of HD channels among providers in the top 25 markets,
averaging 9 channels, according to the consumer HD Web site.

"HDTV is a truly revolutionary technology, but our data shows that
there are still large regional discrepancies over how much
programming is available in high-definition," said Mark Kersey,
president of BuyingHDTV.com, in a release. "As consumer awareness
and adoption of HDTV increase, we expect that cable companies around
the country will continue to add new high-def channels to satisfy
their customers' demands and to keep up with satellite competitors."

sounds like either YES isn't making the HD feed available to anyone or
demanding high fees, because someone posted last month that even WCBS
wasn't going to pick up the HD feed from the Yanks this year.

well, it's a shame.... is this delay because of someone's greed or technical
difficulties in adding mid-season additions to HD lineup?

The most important thing is ABC-HD... monday night football is upon us
again...

I hear the HD feed is also being picked up by the Japanese channel
NKK? I think that's the name of the channel. It's how there is no
mention of this channel at all. You'd think YES would be running ad's
saying to call your service provider to get YESHD. Maybe it's not
ready for the masses. who knows

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am just trying to be
fair. Cablevision has more HD channels than any other cable
company, and that is a fact. No company carries every channel be it
HD or SD. I know there are some SD channels that they do not carry
that people want, too. I know ABC-HD is a glaring missing channel,
but lots of other cable companies do not carry every local channel.
I still think their HD package is among the best in the industry.
