You are welcome. I can't wait for the Tonys. Too bad they had to bow out of the
Critics Desk Awards.

"Deuce" — Terrence McNally's new Broadway play starring Angela
Lansbury — has decided not to compete for Drama Desk, Outer Critics
Circle and Drama League Awards.
> The reason: not enough rehearsal time to polish performances
sufficiently before the voters come in to see it.
>
> "The eligibility requirements for [Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle
and Drama League] awards asked that the nominators of the respective
organizations be accommodated to see the show after only a week of
performances," a rep for the play told Playbill.com. "We decided that
this was too much pressure to put on the cast and the production."
> Producers sent the following letter to the awards' chiefs: "We
regret to inform you that Deuce will not be able to meet your
deadlines for eligibility for the [Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle,
Drama League] awards this season.
> "The deadline for Tony nominations is once again a week later than
in previous years, and Deuce's opening date is May 6th. Our press
performances, when we would ordinarily accommodate your nominating
committee, do not begin until May 2nd, which is well past your
nominating deadline. Deuce is simply unable to accommodate your
nominators any earlier than our press performance dates."
> Of course, Lansbury is not exiting the Tonys race. Emmy's biggest
loser (18 defeats) is one Tony victory shy of tying Julie Harris'
record as champ (5 wins). Lansbury has only won two Drama Desk Awards,
by comparison — for "Gypsy" and "Sweeney Todd," two of her
Tony-winning roles.

opens on May 6 for a limited 18-week run. (Photo by Michael O'Neill)
