I'd like to give a laid-back howdy to everybody and welcome to your
Heart of Texas Browncoats Central. Mind your feet, now... I just
swept out the ramp. Everyone settled down? Good! Now here's the
job: We all love the show. We're all excited about Serenity, none
too excited about missing the sneak preview, and rarin' to blow off a
little steam, dong-ma? I reckon we should all have a place to do it,
a place that we can call home. I've done a small amount of
decorating, but I'd much rather people put their own pictures on the
wall... makes it much more homelike. We're all one big family,
really. Let's get to know one another, and maybe we can do a little
grassroots work for Serenity along the way ;>

Commiseration, community, protein tubes...
Andrea :) Spanking new group, so as you come in, introduce yourself!
I'm 28, been living in Austin for 11 years as an on-and-off UT psych
undergrad. Currently working at Half-Price Books (if you can call it
working) and heading out the door to the Gateway Tailgate party for
hot dogs and commiseration...
Howdy, everyone. It's Austin, so I figured that was the perfect
greeting. Anyhow, I'm Rey, a 31-year old Browncoat. I've been living
in Austin for about a year and a half...
But really, all that's secondary to the Advance Screening which my
wife, son and I were fortunate enough to attend. In case anyone's
curious, she bought them at 10 minutes to 7 in the morning.
I've posted some non-spoilerish thoughts and pictures from the event
at my livejournal. Feel free to have a read.
http://www.livejournal.com/users/reytheist/102857.html
Keep flying,
Rey
What a good idea this group is! I'm looking forward to getting to know all
you Austinites.
I'm Erin, native of Austin although now I live and work in New Braunfels.
*waves to Rey* Hi, Rey!
See, Rey and his wife made sure that I got a ticket to the Serenity
screening last night. Yeah, that was us in the blue gloves. *hides*
Anyway . . . time for me to go back to work. Talk to y'all soon, I hope!
EMA :-)
Hey, all - I'm Sam - I've been hosting Buffy the Vampire Slayer
showings in the backyard of SpiderHouse for the last two years...
Finally wrapping up the Top Twenty Buffy Episodes at the end of May,
then I'll be showing Firefly episodes starting in June. I've been
working for the guys who own SpiderHouse for about a decade now. My
husband and I are HUGE fans of Firefly and have probably introduced
about 50 people to it on DVD - all with great results! Can't wait to
see the film in September!
Can you give me info on the Buffy
screenings? I went to the Spider House website and there was no info. I’d
love to come sometime.

Introduction to Me!!

Well, hallo all!
My name is Tara Wheeler, I'm 36, married to the wonderful David Wheeler
of Dragon's Lair fame and I'm the one who provided the truck for last
night's tailgaiting party.
My husband and I also brought tube protein (hot dogs) and a grill on
which to cook it, but alas, was denied the right to light up. :(
So we ate Andrea's chips and cookies instead. :) Thanks Andrea!
We also brought our good friend and sometimes adopted #1 son, Rich
Simental and a huge sign which read 'will trade Jayne hats for
tickets'.
At just about the last possible minute, two very nice gentlemen came up
to Andrea, Rich and I (David was attempting to obtain tickets by
smoozing in another area) and offered us two tickets. Andrea, *turned
them down* and pointed them at me.
I am shocked and awed still today. Girlfriend, I owe you bigtime. I
know it's something of a booby prize today, but would you like a Jayne
hat?
Anyhoo, I ended up trading tickets for Jayne hats and got to see the
film, which I will not talk about here, unless prodded with very large
weapons, other than to say, when you go to see Serenity, bring another
set of socks, 'cause Joss is going to blow the first set off.
And I probably shouldn't say this, but Nathan and Ron showed up to the
screening. . .

FYI for everyone, our calendar has info for the Spiderhouse Buffy
Nite... although I'm not sure if the date is right for the start of
Firefly
If you've got anything going on and would like a Browncoat showing
(birthday party at Chucky Cheese, real-time Train Job re-enactment,
etc), just mosey over to the Calendar and post :)

Actually, Firefly starts on the first Tuesday in June... barring
rainouts between now and then, lol!
Congratulations on starting a new group!! Did you guys know that there is
already a Austin
Serenity/SF group here in Austin. Yes!!! Here's a link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/
austinsf/ We're having a monthly meetup at Tres Amigos at the intersection of
183 and
290 in NE Austin. Please send email about perhaps combining forces. Our Cap'n
will be
reading all the emails shortly. Again, congrats, and hope to see all of y'all
soon.
J.R.
P.S.: Were any of you guys at the screening? What an awesome night!
OK, I've tweaked the calendar to (hopefully) reflect the correct
SpiderHouse dates. I'm really looking forward to watching the series
with a large group of fans... I know it's made Buffy a lot of fun!
Where do you think Universal is going to go with this, marketing wise?
After the instant sell-out of the sneak previews, do you think that
there will be a StarWars-like media blitz? Commercials playing up the
special effects, or the character romances? Or will they continue in
their current path of "Whatever Joss thinks"? I'm keeping my fingers
crossed, because if I see one more Wookie ring tone commercial I'm
going to lose it!
I'm also thinking about having some bumperstickers made for the Austin
Browncoats... there's a sign place down the street that does custom
work. Any ideas or suggestions? I would really like to just have the
"Serenity" medallion, but I don't know about copyright infringement,
and the last thing we need is Universal lawyers taking down license
plate numbers. Maybe just the line FIND SERENITY, with Austin
Browncoats in smaller script underneath... anyone else who is
interested or has an idea, please post! I'll go down to the shop this
week and get some price info :)
Greetings! SO here is my interoduction:
My name is Velma and I live here in Austin. My husband and I both
have loved the Firefly series. We were blessed to get tickets to the
screening (and it TOTALLY ROCKED!!!) In fact we sat right behind Mr.
blue hands!!!
Anywho! hopefully I'll get to meet some of you at the showings at
Spiderhouse (Great idea!!!)
So have a great week!!!
Velma =)
...is not in store! Good things are coming... to a theater (possibly) near you!
It's Joss, your roving reporter, with another ZOWIE! exclusive(!) hot off the presses! Browncoats Bring Boffo B.O.! Vegas Vibe Very Vivacious! You heard it first here, true believers...
Okay, first of all, being that guy is exhausting. So no more roving and on to the meat of the thing. I just saw the whole cast today (which is in itself a wonderful and rare thing) and we all compared notes on the screenings, the general feeling being: damn. As in, Big Damn. You guys were SO sweet. We all thought it was a grand time. More (or at least just as) importantly, the Uni Brass thought it worked out great too, so... wait for it... there's gonna be more.
You might have heard rumors, but I'm here to confirm. On Thursday the 26th the studio is doing another round of hit-and-run screenings, and this time it's not ten cities -- it's twenty. It's another vote of confidence from the studio and another chance for us to say "thanks" to you guys for keeping this all rolling. And most importantly, another chance to run that videotape of me before the movie, looking so tragically sexy.
"Wait a minute! What cities!?!?! Hey, %#$@face, stop talking about how sexy you are (although you are confessedly quite the dish) and give us the info!" Well, I don't actually know. I think we'll be repeating in the cities we've hit and adding 10 new ones. I expect can'tstopthesignal will have the info some time tomorrow, and let the manager-threatening begin! (Or, you know, the ticket buying.) Hopefully one of those cities will be near you, and won't be one where the film breaks and has to start again (heh heh... professional showbusiness... ). I don't know if any of the peeps is gonna be able to come out this time, but if they can they will, and I know Jewel's going somewhere 'cause she was working last time.
That's it! Except to add that Summer and I were pretty overwhelmed last Thurs, and I got the impression everyone else was too. Of course everyone else didn't have to put up with Summer's constant whispering of "I SAVED this film, Hackboy!" or her "surefire" system of winning at craps that had me down six large come the dawn... That girl. Just trouble.
Enough with this post. You guys are beyond swell. Let the party continue.
-j."
So there you have it. With any luck, there will be another screening coming to Austin in a few weeks.
I'm terrible at these things and something of a
lurker, but here goes.
My name is Angela Philley, and I've been a fan of
Firefly since the beginning. I liked "The train job"
and got sucked in right away. I even liked it when I
was confused over the cast meeting each other when
last week they had known each other. Some of the
people that I introduced to Firefly enabled my husband
to buy a ticket to the screening for Mother's Day
(Thank you, thank you, Tony & Sandra, and of course DH
- Bear). It was a lot of fun.
I think the idea of a bumper sticker is a great one.
I like "Find Serenity".

OK, last email from me. The other two links are working better than
the one I posted, as Fandango is no longer pointing to it from there.
So use their's while you can.
Sorry about the emails. Have a great day and best of luck to you all.

Or here, if Jules' link is wonky (not that I think it is, but just in
case).
ITS NOT WORKING!

My friend was almost through the process and got an internal error on
the site. Then the listing disappeared. She tried to call the
theater, but it's been busy since then. I just called the theater,
and the guy said he thought things were working fine. I called and
told him it was gone, and people were screaming for tickets, and he
might want to let Fandango know the site's got issues.
I don't know if the theater is doing will call or not through their
box office. It's worth a shot, though.

Sorry to alarm you, Rey. It's all on my end..I've called sbcglobal
tech support twice already..first they told me it was a virus on my
computer, it's not, and then they said I had to report it through
their web feedback page. The count's up to about 200 now. HEE
HEE..at least I know there are more screenings beyond a shadow of a doubt!
What's funny is there were only 2 messages that posted to my webmail
access, but they keep coming up in my Outlook. I wonder if it's a
problem with Outlook instead of the email server.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know it's absolutely nothing to do with
you. :)
Becky
one of the other browncoats (bowlwoman is my SAVIOR)
told me where to get dallas tickets at
movietickets.com... so i got tickets for that
screening cause i live in fort worth (i just like
austin browncoats.. i drove down to see the screening
there. i was the one in the big damn fan shirt) so
yeah.. I GOT TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY!! so shiny..... so very much so.

LOL..I think we blew the Fandango

has all the Fandango theaters listed with a message to contact the theaters
directly for tickets. I called the theater about 10 minutes ago, and they had
no idea there was a problem with Fandango.
