Hi All,
On August 16th I will be taking part in the Easter Seals Drop Zone
and rapelling 17 stories down the Royal Bank Building on Portgae
Ave. Its a fantastic fundraiser for Easter Seals and the Society
for Manitobans with Disabilites, two organizations that have done so
much for both of my daughters over the years.
In order to participate I need to raise $1,500 in Pledges and thats
where all of you come in. If you would like to make a donation by
credit card there is a secure website at www.thedropzone.ca just
click on sponsor a superhero then enter my name.
Checks and money oreders are also accepted just make them out to
Easter Seals, tax receipts will be provided. Send me a e mail and I
can even meet up with you to get the donation.
Thanks everyone
Warren Kowalson
Anywhere but YouTube is fine. I have been using Veoh as the home of
the RetroWinnipeg Alternate Zone, and that's been fine. I'd love to
see those anniversary shows at some point.

somewhere i can download or view the shows ? do you know how many shows
they produced in a year ? I was on the show in the summer months of one
of these years . would bring back a world of memories . i was 6 - 8yrs
old at the time .

Sorry bout the confusion over the pic, I never saw the link in your
message.
I had a problem in the past with someone deleting pictures from the
group and thx to a few members who downloaded the pics I was able to
replace the entire collection.
I have created a new folder in the pictures section called Misc pics
and changed the settings so that group members are able to post
photos of their own but not delete them afterward.
Thanks again to everyone who has joined, I never expected the
incredible response that I have received from this group and am
happy to have brought back so many childhood memories for so many
people.
It's also amazing the changes this group has made in my life, since
I was a kid I was always facinated by radio and television and I
guess in a way thanks to Uncle Bob I am now celebrating my 2 year
anniversary in Winnipeg radio, and boy what a wild ride it has been
lol.
Who knows maybe another get together sometime in the future could be
a possibility.
Bye for now
Hi, I added the image using html and it showed up on the preview. The

I think that's a great idea that's way over due.
I've got the master tapes of that and the 20th Anniversary show, but
there are rights issues to be considered before posting any of this
material.
Given time, I'm sure most, if not all of the materials will be
available through the archives.

He died on June ninth, 1989, exactly three weeks before his 55th birthday.

All the music files from the show are authentic and the pictures that
are posted are the actual puppets that were used on the show.
Hope everyone has a happy holiday season.
A (woman) friend of mine grew up in Winnipeg. She has been talking
about Archie Wood and it would be REAL cool if I could play the theme
song for her. Is the song in the files section THE real theme song?
(I grew up in Minnesota, so I wouldn't know.) Please let me know.
The surprise would be a big flop if it wasn't the real song. She is
41 and watched it probably late 60's early 70's. Thanks. Email me or
post to group ASAP.

thanks for posting some of the Archie files on You Tube, that site is
incredible I must have spent hours on it the other day watching a ton
of old classic commercials and news footage from the peg. Not too
mention a bunch of old WKRP episodes too lol.
For anyone that hasn't been to the site yet i highly recommend it, and
if you are a fan of classic television from the city just put Winnipeg
into the search and you will be amazed at what you will find.

Has anyone though about putting Archie, or any other CKY or local videos

Unfortunately....everything's gone to the archives. See Re: CTV TAKES PLACE IN
LOCAL HISTORY.
They have everything now, so maybe in the near future it will all be documented.

could arrange a transfer of the 16mm film to DVD for you if I could burn a copy.

Regarding: "The Chandler's Wife"
I found a link to the first verse of "The Candler's
Wife". You can definitely hear the origins of "The
Thing"!

Like everyone else I remember "The Thing" as Marvin's signature song.
I never knew it was a Phil Harris song in the first place, but it was
a ribald classic in the even earlier time. The root song was called
the Chandler's wife, and told the story (you already know the tune) of
a man passing a chandlers shop going in and not getting served, and
hearing the sound of a - boom boom boom - right above his head. Well,
he goes upstairs, finds the Chandlers wife in an indescretion, and
becomes her regular fancy man whenever the Chandlers away. I think
thats about the best I can do relating a song on a group for a
childrens show that might be looked at by children. Better safe than
sorry.
I remember hearing Bob being interviewed on radio once, and saying
that the letter "B" was hard to pronounce when throwing your voice,
and that instead of saying 'root beer' you would say 'root deer'.
He mentioned he enjoyed doing private shows for university groups as
he could be a bit more adult in the material.
I remember Petite singing Doggie in the window, but nothing else.
I hope the custodians of the puppets would be willing to have another
display sometime soon as I was working when they were at Johnny Gs.
There are 2 two inch Hi-Band tapes with Archie and His Friends
segments & backup shows from the late seventies. As well, there is 1
full show on 1 inch and 1 full show on 3/4. (both of these have been
transfered to SX)
There is at least 1 full season of Funtown on 2 inch quad and 1 show
on 3/4.
