This is one of those episodes that I really liked in
first run, because it started the process of changing
Wesley from "hero support" to a strong character of
his own. I like the more confident Wesley far more
than the silly Wesley, and in this episode, he gets a
great reward for his personal growth. Over time, I've
come to enjoy the arc-driven episodes a little bit
more in this season, but I still think this is a solid
character piece with a lot of fun elements.
Here's my review for Angel 2.6: "Guise Will Be Guise":

Overall, this episode was a near-perfect character
study for Wesley, delving into his strengths without
ignoring some of his weaknesses. Wesley truly gets to
be the hero in this episode, and as a result, the
foundation is laid for his role later in the season
and series. Angel also gets a little character
exploration. The episode doesn’t have the impact of
some of the more arc-driven episodes, but it was a
pleasant look into one of the best characters on the show.
