If Americans can be trusted to pick the winners of any talent show, then one
funny lady can be trusted to consult with three others to select the top
ontestants that America votes on.
I'm wondering if the doubts about Ellen come from something other than her
perceived qualification. I've already seen her compared to Rosoe O'Donnell and
Jane Fonda.
I'm glad that the far right doesn't control everything in the country. I'm
sure that some are dreaming of a Rush Limbaugh-Glenn Beck ticket in 2012.

I am surprised she landed this gig. I guess they feel the show needs more comic
relief than the lame contestants can provide. I thought her judging on so u
think u can dance was boring. I like ellen and think she is funny but what is ai
becoming by hiring her. Its a singing comp not comedy hour.

I think Ellen is fabulously entertaining, but I'm not sure what qualifies her to
judge a singing competition. *shrug*  Should be interesting.

Ellen DeGeneres is taking Paula Abdul's place as the fourth judge on American
Idol.

"DeGeneres will sit alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi and
offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition,"
Fox television says in a statement.

DeGeneres, 51, begins her stint after the audition rounds, which have featured a
rotating group of celebrity guest judges including Shania Twain, Victoria
Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Joe Jonas and Kristin Chenoweth.

Two Jobs"I'm going to have a day job and a night job," DeGeneres said at her
talk show taping Wednesday, assuring her audience that The Ellen DeGeneres Show
will continue. "This is so exciting for me."

Abdul abruptly announced in August, just before the start of American Idol's
ninth season, that with "sadness in my heart" she was leaving the highly rated
show hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

In the taping for Thursday's Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres said the deal had
been in the works for the last couple of weeks. "I've been dying to tell
everyone," she says. "It's just been so hard to keep it a secret and we just
finally got the OK and I'm so excited. It is going to be so much fun."

The People's VoiceShe said she's been a longtime fan of the show – "I have not
missed one episode" – and she plans to serve as the voice of the regular
audience member.

"Hopefully I'm the people's point of view because I'm just like you," DeGeneres
says. "I sit at home and I watch it. … I'm not looking at it in a critical way
from the producer's mind. I'm looking at it as a person who is going to buy the
music and is going to relate to that person.

The next season of American Idol begins in January. In the statement released by
Fox, Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller says, "Ellen has been a
fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and understanding of the
American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel."

Yes, I'm watching. I like a few so far; not a "favorite" yet but like Kevin
Skinner, the chicken catching country singer; Lawrence the singer with the
really deep voice; the comedian grandma; the Obama impersonator. I'm sure I will
find more to like and hopefully will find my "favorite."

NEW YORK - (Business Wire) 19 Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of CKX,
Inc. (Nasdaq:CKXE), today announces a new partnership with Ryan Seacrest. The
award-winning television and radio host, successful producer and entrepreneur
has committed to a new, long-term agreement that secures his availability as
host of the No.1-rated TV show “American Idol” through 2012.

The partnership will provide the opportunity for Mr. Seacrest and his wholly
owned Ryan Seacrest Productions banner (RSP) to work together with “American
Idol” creator Simon Fuller on new entertainment endeavors. These new projects
will be in addition to both of their continuing commitments to “American
Idol.”

Ryan Seacrest comments: “I’m truly appreciative of being part of a show that
has had such an enormous impact on popular culture across all ages. I look
forward to expanding the relationship with Simon Fuller and Bob Sillerman, who
share the same visionary approach to entertainment media that I strive for with
every project.”

Simon Fuller, creator of “American Idol” and chief executive officer of 19
Entertainment comments: “I am looking forward very much to collaborating with
Ryan on some new ideas. Ryan is an essential ingredient to ‘American
Idol’s’ success, and I am so happy that we will continue our relationship
beyond ‘Idol’ into the future. Ryan is without doubt one of American
television’s most talented stars.”

Robert F.X. Sillerman, chairman and chief executive officer of CKX added:
“Ryan Seacrest is a unique talent, who has proven to be an integral element of
the success of ‘Idol.’ With this transaction we not only guarantee Ryan’s
participation in ‘Idol,’ but also align ourselves with one of the most
energetic and professional new talents to have come along in years. We fully
expect this to be just the first of many collaborations with Ryan.”

Thanks for your reply.
I am kind of sorry to hear that, I wonder how that makes him rate to judge
people's singing. I don't know how Simon rates to judge either except that he
owns the show. The 2 ladies seem to be the only ones who really rate. I sure
hope we don't loose Paula, but, everything I have read shows that she seems to
be itching to leave, and she is the best judge.
Any chance of Simon & Paula getting hitched? It is obvious that Simon is in love
with her, but, I doubt she is with him, but who really knows whats going on in
her heart ;)
Thanks a lot :)

'Idol' in Orlando gallery
ORLANDO - "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest tried to pump the 9,000-plus people
waiting to audition for the show's ninth season but many of them were already
excited.
"We've been here for hours and we're ready to sing," said Tovia Gibbs, a
27-year-old mother from Tampa. "Singing is what I love, it's what I do," said
Gibbs who came with friend and fellow singer Chantel Gonzalez, 26, and also a
mom. Both perform in a local all-girl group called Bronze.

"This is our chance but if we don't make it, we will keep on singing anyway,"
Gibbs said
Seacrest told the crowd: "This is Orlando and Florida's chance to show America
what you've got."

He arrived just before 8 a.m. to tape a 30-second introduction that took about
90 minutes to set up.

The wannabe idols, who had been corralled in a parking lot for hours, were
herded like cattle on to the steps of Orlando's Amway Arena.

When Seacrest arrived, the crowd went wild. "We're in Orlando and this is the
next American Idol!" he told the screaming throng.

"The next 'American Idol' better come from Orlando because I'm sweating like a
pig,' he said following the taping of his brief introduction.

"This show just keeps getting bigger and better," he noted. "We've come a long
way since that first season. And despite all the craziness that goes on here we
really do help some people achieve their dream."

His advice for wannabe singers; "Just shut up and sing," he said. "You've only
got 30 seconds some make it good. Make sure you pick the right song. And make
sure you know the lyrics. I can't tell you how many times I have seen someone
who has prepared for years get up there and forget the words to a favorite
song."

Producer Patrick Lynn, who used a bullhorn while standing on a stepladder to
direct contestants, said they spent almost two hours setting up and taping the
opening shot. He said it may only last 30 seconds in the actual show.

"But this is a very important shot because it establishes that we are in
Orlando," he said.

Lynn said they specifically scouted the location at the Amway because of the
impressive steps leading to the Orlando arena. Thousands of excited contestants
were visible and screamed loudly for the segment that will open next season.

The crowd was filled with characters – literally. There was a Zorro, two
Supermans, a caveman, a kid wearing an Indian headdress, women dressed in
evening gowns, Goths, punkers and Quatrele Smith, an 18-year-old high school
graduate who rode a bus from two days from Oklahoma.

"I flew in from Heaven," he said, explaining why he was wearing white feathered
angel wings and an Afro wig.

Ambrea Whisman, a 17-year-old high school student from Cocoa Beach wore a
cheerleader outfit hoping to attract the same kind of attention that "Bikini
Girl" did last season.

There were many fresh-faced teens with their parents. "We are seeing more young
people than ever before at the auditions," said Lynn. "I was expecting maybe
5,000 in Orlando but this is impressive."

Last year's runner-up Adam Lambert inspired many contestants to wear punk rock
outfits and apply heavy eyeliner. "That's well and good, but we already found
Adam Lambert," Lynn said. "You need to be original. We're looking for people who
are entertaining."

That includes outlandish characters that will get passed through the audition
process to meet the four judges – Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and
Kara DioGuardi. All of them will be in Orlando in August to see those who make
it that far.

Just before a rainstorm hit Orlando, the crowd was ushered inside the arena
where they must perform for about 30 seconds before the first round talent
scouts.

Among those waiting their turn was Keisha Gill, 20, music major from Auburndale
who likes Broadway show tunes but will sing anything. "I would be stupid not to
try this," she said.

Samantha Leigh, 22, from Tampa's Citrus Park, won a talent competition at a
mall, besting about a 100 competitors. As the "Tampa Idol," sponsored by Fox
affiliate WTVT, Channel 13, she got to move to the head of the line. "It's the
dream of anyone who can sing to be on 'Idol,'" she said. "I'm excited I sing
with a couple of bands in Tampa and I auditioned for 'Idol' when I was 17. But
I've learned a lot since then."

Auditions continued throughout the day. Lynn said everyone would be heard. "We
can judge the first round very quickly," he said. "I can tell within 15 seconds
if a person is ready to move on.

He expects about 200 people to get call backs for the next round before the
executive producers next month in Orlando. And from there, a handful will move
on to sing for the big four.. Those auditions are closed to the media.

If this is true-
AT&T should be in BIG trouble!

AT&T May Have Swayed Idol Outcome to Favor Kris Allen

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen arrive at the American Idol Season 8 Grand Finale
held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on May 20, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. Jason
Merritt/Getty ImagesUs Magazine The New York Times is reporting that American
Idol's Kris Allen may have had a little help from AT&T, one of the Fox show's
biggest corporate sponsors, in winning this year.

According to the Times, AT&T provided phones for free text-messaging services at
two Allen parties in Arkansas on the night of the finals. Citing sources, The
Times reports that AT&T reps showed party-goers how to "power text" -- cast 10
votes at the touch of a button -- which violates show rules.

Check out 20 unforgettable moments from the Idol finale

Power texts, according to the Times, "have an exponentially greater effect on
voting than do single text messages or calls to the shows toll-free phone
lines."

No similar efforts appear to have been made to provide free texting services to
Adam Lambert fans.

Angry Lambert supporters are now claiming in online chat boards that the
competition's voting was rigged.

While Fox has yet to comment, AT&T issued the following statement: "In Arkansas,
we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community. A
few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided
texting tutorials to those who were interested."

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette first reported on the possible skewed voting last
week.

Not sure who you are directing this to...everyone has moved on I would think.
That is a very intelligent explanation you give, however there are many, myself
included who feel that there were a lot of anti-Adam votes for Kris, rather than
actual votes for him. Adam is gay and I know there are a lot of people who
voted against him for that reason, because I've heard and read them say so.
Therewere also those that were against him because of comments made to him by
the judges. It was obviouswho the judges wanted to win. I am not saying Kris
isn't talented, but as Simon said, theywere looking for a worldwide superstar
with this competition. That is what Adam is, not Kris. Kris appeals to very
few people that I've spoken to. To me personally, his style is very boring. I
think he is very forgettable. I also firmly believe that if Kris had been
homely, he wouldn't have won. I think the tween votes pushed him to the win
because he's so
cute. That's my opinion, which is shared by many, just as I'm sure many agree
with you. I just read that Queen is considering Adam as their new lead singer.
I think that would be perfect for him. I wish all of the contestants the very
best.

I'm just now getting around to reading all my email from this list, because
despite what someone on this list thinks of me, I actually do have a life.
Having said that, here's what you have to keep in mind, whether your
favorite contestant won or lost:

The telephone lines are more complicated than just your line and the AI
lines. When you call, especially long distance, your call is routed through
God knows how many "switches" on its way. If any of those connections gets
too busy to handle a call, the connection fails. That's why different
people in different parts of the country can have very different
experiences, and why Dial Idol can be so hit or miss. That's the first
point.

The second point is that the voting does not accurately reflect either the
number of fans a contestant has or the amount of effort those fans are
willing to undertake to get their favorite in as the winner. You know that,
because every one of you got plenty of busy signals on finale night. If you
didn't get in, it's because somebody else's call did get in. Think of it
this way. If there are two concert halls with ten thousand seats in each.
Fifteen thousand people show up to buy tickets at one hall, and only twelve
thousand showed up to buy tickets at the other. Which one is the winner?
Neither! There were only ten thousand seats in each hall, and the rest of
those people didn't count. The only way you can determine a winner is by
counting who sat in those seats, because you know some people bought tickets
and didn't show up. Similarly, we will never know how many people showed up
to vote (buy tickets if you will) for each performer, because so many were
turned away due to capacity issues either with their phone company, the AI
phone system, or more likely somewhere in between.

My point in explaining all this is that the fact that Chris won (which I
happen to be happy about) does not reflect that the world is full of Adam
haters, Danny fans who wanted revenge against Adam, or anything of the sort.
If that were the case, Chris's line would've been free and open, and I can
tell you that, using four different cell phone carriers, was not the case.
Lots and lots of votes didn't count because they never got beyond the busy
signals and recordings, so you know that if your vote didn't get through,
it's because someone else's did. In such situations, it really can go
either way, and may or may not reflect what the "majority" wanted. You'll
never know. Accept that for what it is and move on.

For me Idol has been much more than a t.v. show, but I won't get into all

I loved many of the performances Wednesday night, mainly the ones noted
earlier in this discussion. Adam and Kiss blew me away (and I'm not even a
hard rock fan), but I thought Kris actually out sang Keith Urban. I don't
see Kris as a country singer anyway.

If anyone goes to the concerts, I hope you will post here because as I've
