No tights for Wonder Woman's latest role
Carter
In the late '70s, actress Lynda Carter fought bad
guys, repelled bullets and leaped tall buildings on the TV series Wonder Woman.
In the recently released Disney film Sky High, Carter
is the mother of all superheroes. Or so to speak.
As Principal Powers she plays a retired superhero who
is in charge of an elite high school filled with power-gifted students who are
going to be moulded into tomorrow's superheroes. The film also stars Kurt
Russell and Kelly Preston who both had to don tights and capes for the film.
Did Carter expect that the movie would take advantage
of her TV past?
"No," she says about any ideas of her exposing those
famous curves. "When I read the script, I knew that there was no costume
involved."
As part of the cast of the Warner Bros. summer
blockbuster, The Dukes Of Hazzard, Carter shared scenes with Jessica Simpson,
Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville. Despite the critical knocks that
Simpson has received for her acting debut, Carter affectionately describes her
as "very sweet and talented" and someone who "worked her buns off for that
part."
Carter also has high praise for country crooner Willie
Nelson, her romantic co-star in the film.
"He was the cutest thing you'd ever see in your life,"
she says. "But unfortunately a lot of our (love) scenes were cut out because
there was only so much they could put in the movie and they were stretched for
time."
Much talk over the years has been made about the
up-coming Joss Whedon-directed Wonder Woman film now slated for a 2007 release.
In the past couple of years, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Catherine
Zeta-Jones have all been rumoured to be in the running for the lead role.
But would Carter be willing to re-visit her old
stomping ground?
"I would do a cameo (in the movie) if they wanted me
to do it and if it was the right part," she says gingerly. "I don't think that I
would play a shopkeeper, but I would be willing to play Wonder Woman's mother."
Carter guest stars on Law and Order on Sept. 27 and on
Law and Order: SVU on Sept. 28.
