Cancelled: American Gothic
Excuse: People want wholesome, family, uplifting shows like "Touched By
An Angel"
Arguement: Dr. Quinn, cancelled. Angel was cancelled, too, once upon a
time.
Cancelled: Brimstone
Excuse: Low Ratings
Arguement: Most viewers found this show by accident, thanks to lack of
promotion
Eternal: Married, With Children
Excuse: ??? High Sex Quotient ???
Arguement: Who from this show, besides Christina Applegate, is still
working?
Eternal: Boy Meets World
Excuse: I can't think of one!
Arguement: No one wants to cancel either Savage's show, or the other
will have to be cancelled, too.
Semi-eternal: Family Matters
Excuse: People take pride in being unlike Urkel
Arguement: Who can argue with that???
Other shows out of the mainline that didn't last long: Covington Cross,
Dark Shadows (the prime-time version), a swords & sorceror show in the
early 80's with Jeff Conaway...I can't think of others just now...can
you?
Janis (watching Lucas & Holly right now)
Happy Valentines Day to all!
<sigh>... BRIMSTONE has been cancelled. What the hell is wrong with the majority
of network TV viewers, that
shows like BRIMSTONE and AMERICAN GOTHIC get cancelled within one season, and
shows like MARRIED WITH
CHILDREN go on for years?!? Let's open a discussion on this..this list has been
silent too long. -Mark-

The film your thinking of was Gang Related. Lot of swearing, but great plot
twists on it. Plus it had James Earl Jones and Dennis Quaid, so that's a
bonus incentive to watch it.
Sammy the Mad Gusher
Well, this is as good a reason to start this list to talking as any.
I've seen Gary in some films, not many though. One was a film with Tupac
Shakur and Jim Belushi..can't remember the name. Does anyone know?

Was watching TV today when I spotted Gary Cole in a commercial for a new movie.
I believe it was called "Office Space", and it also stars Jennifer Aniston.
Good exposure for him!
Elaine
Mark,
I was impressed! It does look like the Lucious Lucas.
I was curious about the figures after reading your first post about
Mego, so I searched eBay to see what was out there. One seller had a
group of rather battered superheroes. Is that the sort of thing you
remake into newer figures? Mego made a bigger range of sizes than I
remembered, but those looked like they might be in the size of your
work.

Howdy all, my name is Sammy.
I love Brimstone and Cupid and am pretty fond of Fantasy Island (You all
know it just got canned right?). My main interests include animals
(particularlly dogs) and tv/movies. I've been enjoying AG since its first
episode, but unfortunately (pardon my spelling) I missed a couple of
episodes towards the end. My favorite characters were Dr. Matt, Lucas, Ben,
and Selena (in that order).
By the way, what ever happened to Dr. Matt. It looks like from the fanfic
I've read that he got shipped off to the looney bin. I knew he payed a brief
visit their in the episode that Marlee went wacky, but I thought he got out.
One thing I didn't care for that much was that I thought they got a little
supernatural towards the end. That one moment when Buck morphed from Marlees
boyfriend into himself made me kinda go, what the heck?!?! Before then I
thought it was really cool, mysterious things just kinda happened. In fact
before that moment I didn't even realise they were trying to make him the
devil. (Yep, I know, I'm pretty dense).
Another thing, whoever did the third virtual season, Wow! That was some of
the best fanfic I've ever read. Are you guys going to start on a virtual
season four any time soon?

We do a lot of foster work up here too. Mostly with dogs and a few cats.
Well thats about all I have to say for now.
Sammy the Mad Gusher
Hi everyone. Well, I finished my Lucas Buck custom action figure. Please
don't be too hard on me. I'm still new to this customizing thing.

Perhaps we could have a bit of comparing John G.'s Satan to Lucas
Now here's an interesting comparison. I'll take a whack at it...
John G's Satan: seems to play it more tongue in cheek than Lucas, although is
very capable of being menacing
when Stone gets too sarcastic with him. also shows regret of his predicament
(with God) from time to time (in
one episode even said "I never loved anything...except for God).
Lucas: relishes in evil...LOVES IT. shows absolutely no remorse for his wrong
doings as an angel. uses charm
to manipulate almost everyone...asctually, is so charming that it's usually very
difficult to not be in his
corner.

That is totally cool! You did an awesome job with Michael Myers. Are
you going to make more of Lucas, and then sell some?
You'll have to let me know!
Elaine
I've had a few responses along these lines about my Lucas Buck custom
action figure. Allow me to explain a couple of things about the custom
figures I do. I am just now starting to learn how to sculpt my own
heads, although likenesses are a bit tough still for me. For the most
part now, I use Mego parts and repaint, dye and customize them to suit
my needs. I don't know how many of you out there even know about the
history of the 1970's toy company Mego. They made action figure lines
for many shows. The likenesses were almost never dead on acurate,
actually they more or less just kinda looked like who they were supposed
to. I grew up on them, and can tell you that this simplicity was a large
part of their charm. I am sticking to this formula with Lucas. He is
almost complete now. I will send a scan of him to the group upon his
completion. I probably won't sell any to the group, simply due to the
fact that they take alot of time and I wouldn't want to charge what I
would have to charge to do it. However, I will send the "recipe" for
making him to the group.
If anyone is interested in seeing any of my other custom figures, please
say so and I'll send you the links to get to them.
*whew* -Mark-
>On the lighter side, have any of you Gothniks watched and enjoyed Cupid
>or the remade Fantasy Island?
Yes! I love Cupid, and enjoy Fantasy Island. Cupid is fun, well-written
and... I don't know! I just like it.
As for Fantasy Island, I was against the whole idea of the remake (I hate
remakes) but since they didn't try to recast Tattoo, and all the characters
were new (even Rourke is different), I dont' mind it so much.
As for Brimstone, the lack of real colour really bothers me. I also didn't
really care for the main character. The guy who plays Satan is cool though.
Elaine
Ah, Mark mentioned "Brimstone." I wondered if other AG fans enjoy this
dark series.
Perhaps we could have a bit of comparing John G.'s Satan to Lucas, or
Stone to Ben?
I feel that some of the good/bad is too black/white on Brimstone, but
the casting and acting is excellent.
I tried to start watching Millenium after it was a few episodes along,
and that was too late (for me) to pick up the plot enough to enjoy or
understand it.
On the lighter side, have any of you Gothniks watched and enjoyed Cupid
or the remade Fantasy Island?
Janis
Oh, me, me! I'll be next.
I'm another who watched from the first...in fact, I probably annoyed the
heck out of my husband every time a promo came on before the first
season started..."gottawatchitgottawatchit, don'tletmeforget!" As you
may guess from this, I enjoy horror, suspense, and a bit of SF/F.
I have a very diverse background and eclectic interests. I live on a
somewhat remote farm (racehorses and dairy goats) in Ohio.
Professionally, I am a farmer *and* a Business/Technology consultant,
with a special interest in Knowledge Management. I am as interested in
the arts as the sciences, but my passion is helping animals. I
currently have five rescue/adopted dogs (3 Greyhounds, 1
Greyhound/German Shep., and a Coonhound), and I am very active in equine
rescue/adoption.
I joined the first AG list around the third episode and have enjoyed the
variety of people that AG attracts, the interesting discussions because
of that variety, and the terrific (if warped) humor that pervades.
I have been working on (but never finishing) a Web page of AG interest,
but I won't tell you the subject until I'm ready to launch it. Maybe
I'll get it completed if ya'll (that is the Kentucky spelling, not
pronounced exactly like the "y'all" farther south <g>) nag me.
Janis
Well since I started this, I guess I should have introduced myself. I am 28 yers
old. My profession is
theatre projection. I collect and sell vintage toys and collectibles. I also
like to make custom action
figures based on the 1970's figures put out by Mego (c). I am currently working
on a Lucas Buck figure.
Here's a picture of one of my figures, Michael Myers (HALLOWEEN):
http://web2.airmail.net/oldhiway/myers.jpg
I too hate it when shows fail due to their requiring more than one brain cell to
enjoy and comprehend them. I
am also a fan of the current show MILLENNIUM, which I fear is about to suffer
the same fate as AG. BRIMSTONE
is pretty cool too.
So, who else is out there? -Mark-

Good idea, Mark!
Especially since everyone is so quiet so far.
Well, I am Elaine, your listmaster. I saw AG when it first aired, and loved
it immediately!
I hate that networks assume we don't like to "think" when we watch TV. AG
certainly gave you stuff to think about, and it wasn't predictable.
I live in Ontario, Canada.
Who else is here?
Elaine
Just a notice that Nick Searcy appears in the Fugitive, which is on tonight, in
less than half an hour! (Well, I'm in Ontario, and it starts at 8:30pm)
I believe Nick plays a Sheriff - LOL!
Elaine
Hi everyone. I'm a new member to this list. I missed out on AG when it
first ran. I was working nights, and just never had a chance to see it.
What a loss to me. This is one of the most original shows I have ever
seen. The cast is perfect.
Perhaps to get to onw eachother better, we could send in a short
description of ourselves to the list. Maybe?
OK, signing off for now. -Mark-

What do you mean it's back? Do you just mean that the original season is
being re-aired again?
I highly doubt it'll be back. It's been more than a couple of years now
since it was cancelled. But one can always hope!

Hello!
Someone emailed me asking the following questions. Going from memory, I couldn't
remember the answers!
I'm sure some of you can help.
Here's this guy's email address: mark harrison <oldhiway@...>
In advance, thanks everyone!! Also, maybe you could post the answers you come

Yes, I apologize for the lack of posts (though it's not entirely my fault!).
I've been trying to think of something to say, but don't have any news.
Anyone else?

Hey! I was just watching a show called Nite Life, and they had talked to Billy
Bob Thornton and Bill Paxton, when they showed a clip from "A Simple Plan".
GARY COLE is in it!! I couldn't really tell, but it seems he may be another
law officer. LOL
Hey, if there is anyone on this list besides myself, please.... speak up!
Elaine
Hello all!
A couple of weeks ago, there was an episode of Charmed that made me think of AG.
A warlock from the future turns up, and he has a real third eye. He uses it to
suck the life out of people. In the end, they stick a crowbar into his third
eye which kills him.
Made me think of the Buckmeister, and the eps The Buck Stops Here, and Requiem!
Elaine
