Hi folks
Just thought I'd share my first experience of watching The Wombles
in French. I'd seen the French DVD on eBay for months and finally
bought one this week.
There actually seem to be two DVDs available, one with both English
and French soundtracks, and one just in French. Mine's the French-
only version, and although I was interested to hear the French
dialogue, I hadn't even thought about a French theme tune!
My French is a bit rusty, but I've more or less worked out the
lyrics:
"Nous, les Wombles, on est tres ingénieux,
car où c'est perd du neuf avec du vieux,
tous que les gens abandonnent derrière eux,
dans nos mains ce transforme en objets fabuleux."
I'm not too sure about the beginning of the second line, any ideas?
It might be something about making new things from old stuff. Still,
roughly translated:
"We, the Wombles, are very clever,
because when new or old things are lost,
all that the people leave behind,
in our hands is transformed into fabulous objects."
Wellington is called 'Vladivostok' and I think Stepney
is 'Engelbert' (is that a place?)... but more interestingly, Madame
Cholet is an English woman called 'Missus Albion' (which sounds very
like 'Mrs'), in a complete role reversal! She speaks French with a
pronounced English accent and keeps saying things like "By golly".
Has anyone else seen The Wombles in different languages?
Cheers
Tara
