We went to Wimbledon Common looking for wombles - Sam, Toby, Oli &
Tilly. Tilly is too small to find wombles really because she is only
6 months old - it was Oli's idea - he is five and three quarters.
Well, first we heard this sort of clicking noise - it sounded a bit
like grasshoppers in the long grass - but Oli realised it must be
Tobermory doing something in his workshop.
Later we saw some tunnels which Oli worked out must be the air-
conditioning for their burrow.
Then - this is the best part - Oli saw a womble!
He was a long way away, bending down to pick up some rubbish. Oli is
pretty sure it was Orinoco. The womble disappeared pretty quickly –
he probably went away when he saw us because wombles are so shy. And
neither Sam nor I saw him. But that isn't a surprise because wombles
never let grown-ups see them.
It was a brilliant day – we were all so pleased Oli saw the womble.
He wants to go back and find their burrow now.
Has anybody else seen a womble?
