More And More 24

Yes, it has been a while since the last season of 24. You'd almost think they were The Sopranos or something, what with all the delays. But 24 is back! And reporter Colleen Kelly ticks off the not-quite-real-time details of what we can expect from the big two-hour prequel and the exciting season-to-come.

The Greatest American Comic Book Hero

It ran from 1981 to 1983, but, even though it disappeared from the airwaves, Greatest American Hero never did disappear from our collective imaginations. Now it's coming back – in comic book form!Tony Caballero goes one-on-one with star-turned-author, William Katt to discuss all things GAH and, believe it or not, some fascinating new projects besides.

Prime Grade Chuck

So, what's the story behind the mysterious spy agency Sarah and Casey work for? What's going to happen now that Chuck and the intersect don't necessarily have to um,... intersect? Will Chuck and Sarah make or breakup? Will Chuck and Morgan? Will the Nerd Herd again? These and other vital questions get answered by Marlaine Wade in her article on the Chuck panel.

Aaaaand The Winnah Is!...

Or, to be more precise, the winners - of our Comic Con Screening raffle - are…

deez_the_sith; ussmermaid; simgar21 and redbird3200 – Each of whom will be getting an Origins Angel (aka Liam/Angelus) Doll (value $40 USD) to call their very own!

And lordgloria, our Grand Prize winner, who will be getting a $75 Gift Card courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles!

Congratulations to all our prize winners and thanks to everyone who took part in the raffle. Also, very special thanks to Sideshow Collectibles for their continuing sponsorship!

...But Wait! There's More!

No, really! There's still lots more interviews and articles to come.Curious about the upcoming season of Supernatural? The last hurrah of Battlestar Galactica? The coming Watchmen movie? You Brought The Fun In!!!

Wow! We thought last year's screening of "Once More With Feeling" at CC '07 was an amazing experience, but this year managed to top it. And it's all because of you guys; the incredible Whedon fen who, even on a late Sunday afternoon, showed up in droves to sing-along, cheer, call-out, wave cell phones and fill cavernous Ballroom 20 nearly to capacity! We'll definitely need to stock up on more grr arrg finger puppets, Sunnydale parking tickets and commemorative buttons if we do this again next year (and don't be shy about letting Comic Con know if you want us to do this again next year!).

FYI, the OMWF raffle drawing is Friday, August 15th. The winners will be announced in this newsletter and on the site.

It Seems To Me, A Crowd Off-Key Is On The Rise...

Okay, that would be more the Dr. Horrible screening late Friday. Patti Hutchens covers the Joss Whedon/Dr. Horrible Panel that took place earlier that afternoon. Not so much off-keyness, but lots of amusing questions and even more amusing answers.

Oh, Captain! My Captain!

Captain Jack Harkness, that is. Three members of the Torchwood team (two surviving, one late), John Barrowman, Gareth David Lloyd, and Naoko Mori and the current creative comptrollers of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat and Julie Gardner, showed up to give the lowdown on their respective coming seasons. Our own Susan Weber tells all.

It's Good To Be King

Though Ian McShane spent the entire panel stuck in traffic on the I5, the rest of the cast, spurred on by moderator Greg Grunberg (Heroes), had plenty to share about this fascinating new Biblically-inspired, alternate-reality series. Reporter David Mello gets the chapter and verse from the creative team.

But He Seemed Like Such A Nice Serial Killer

So what's up for Dexter Season Three? A nice home in the suburbs with Rita and the kids? Getting voted president of the PTA? Building a nice, quiet, summer abattoir out in woods? Y'know, the little things that make life complete. Colleen Kelly cuts to heart of the matter in her article on the Dexter Panel.

Getting Lost at Comic Con

Will the show be ending in another two seasons? Will the show know where it's going in two seasons? Will the audience know where it went in another two seasons? Will anyone actually care? And is the Dharma Initiative really a show sponsor now? If so, is the Super Bowl next? These questions and more (and possibly less) are answered by Whedonopolite, Susan Weber.

Nothing Generic About This Genetic Opera

So, in the future, see, there's this mega corporation that provides and finances people's organ transplants, only if you default on your loan, they repossess their product... right out of your living, screaming body... while singing!... Just like The Sound Of Music! Anthony Stewart Head makes you totally forget his tweedy Giles image by doing the musical repo duties. David Mello gives all, well, most, well, some of the gory details.

Spaced Out on Spaced

Yet another of our Six-Degrees-Of-Joss Whedon series of articles, wherein we profile a movie, series or personage (in this case, Simon Pegg), whose connection to the Joss-verse is tenuous, but navigable within six degrees of connectivity. Susan Weber gives all the details, not only about the connection, but about Pegg's wonderfully un-Americanizable Britcom.

Villains Reign On Heroes

Where do you go after starting a panel with a screening of an entire mind-melting, roller-coaster reeling season three premier episode? If you're Heroes, the amazing answer is: Up. If you thought last season was a little slow, strap in and hang on, this season looks to be a hell of a ride. Read Susan Weber's write-up for the juicy details.

Blogs Away!

The crowds! The exhibit room! The crowds! The dealers! The crowds! The panels! The crappy security! The crowds! The celebs! The crowds! The interviews! The crowds! The previews! The crowds! The convention center!... Did I mention the crowds? Whedonopolis' own inimitable Iggy blogged day-by-day in the very heart of con-ness, taking in the CC experience and letting it out real-time. Read her daily reports from ground zero: The good, the bad and omg fugly.

Principle Snyder Goes Legit

As in Theatre. Armin Shimerman (late of Buffy fame) is currently appearing, along with his wife, Kitty Swink, in "The Voysey Inheritance" an Edwardian concoction of deceit, betrayal, familial hatred, financial ruin and all the things that make holiday get-togethers special. Well, okay, maybe your holidays are different than mine. For the details click thusly.

ComicMix Interviews Whedonopolis!

We're famous!... Infamous?... Well, we're something, anyway, and we're on Internet radio on ComicMix.com. Take a listen as Mike Raub interviews the "Mistress of Whedonopolis", Marsia Powers to explore all the many and various things of a Joss Whedon-ish nature.

...But Wait! There's More!

No, really! There's still lots more interviews and articles to come. Curious about next season's 24? The last hurrah of Battlestar Galactica? The coming Watchmen movie? The Hobbit? We've got that and more. Just keep reading, folks. And check out our Gallery for tons of great pics from the con; the articles have only a tiny sample.

Besides all that, remember to peruse our lovely Features Menu for all the latest breaking news, news bytes, articles, announcements and cool links served fresh daily. Enjoy, enjoy!

Don't Just Go Through The Motions!

Come on down to the San Diego Comic Con on Sunday, July 27th, when Whedonopolis.com presents a very special screening of "Once More With Feeling". Based on last year's amazing turn-out - when we had to open two separate ballrooms and do two consecutive showings - we've been asked by the CC committee to be this year's Big Closing Event! And this time, we've got big, beautiful Ballroom 20 and six big screens all to ourselves.

What's more, to make the singin'-along experience just that much easier,  we'll be screening an exclusive copy of the Buffy Musical with Open Captioning for the Hearing Impaired, put together by Saturn Award-winning Editor, Josh Rubinstein, just for Whedonopolis! And if that isn't enough, it'll be absolutely free - yes, free! -  to Comic Con members! All that, plus some cool free goodies for your interactive viewing pleasure and a special drawing for even more.

So, walk through the fire and let it burn! It all starts at 4PM Sunday in Ballroom 20 and we need you to help bring the fun in!

Whedonopolis Is Everywhere…

Well, we'll be all over Comic Con anyway, covering it from frenetic start to bitter end. Our reporters, photographers and bloggers are well-caffeinated and ready-to-go. So keep watching our site for all the latest and greatest info hailing from CC `08 on, in, of or about the Joss-verse and all things related thereabouts-ish.

The Music Of The Spheres

...Well, okay, more like music of the battlestars and cylons. Composer Bear McCreary was at the Roxy recently, playing the music from Battlestar Galactica, ably abetted by James Callis and a really rockin' band. Brian Rubin reports on the aural sublimity of it all.

We Want YOU!... to write for Whedonopolis

The realization has struck that the world of Whedon is large and our staff is small and we are in need of additional people with a love of things Jossian to cover what and where we can't. Specifically, we're looking for writers across the country and the globe to cover conventions, concerts, signings and all other sorts of fandom-related activities. A Common Rotation concert in New Jersey? Torchwood filming in Cardiff? We can't always be there, but maybe you can! Interested in doing reviews of movies, books, comics, DVD's, CD's or games involving the Whedonverse? We're looking for that too.

What's in it for you? Well, a bit of fame, but no fortune. We're an all-volunteer army in these parts. But we can offer free press passes to various events and conventions, as well as review copies of CD's and DVD's as we get them. We also offer the opportunity to take an active role in the promotion of people involved in the Whedonverse, as well as meeting and interviewing people directly involved with making our favorite shows happen.

So, how do you get involved? Simple: Just submit a sample article of around 500 words on a Whedonverse-related topic. It could be anything; a review of a new movie or DVD with a Whedonverse actor or actress in it, a blog entry about how excited you are about Dollhouse; whatever comes to mind. Please email it along with your name, address and a small blurb about why you would like to write for us to: submissions@....

We look forward to receiving your submissions, and thank you for your interest in joining our energetic and awesome staff. If you have any questions about our site, our staff or anything else, please direct these to info@.... Good luck!

What I Did at Gallifrey One's Nineteenth Symphony Convention

Written by Maria G

Let's face it - if you're a fan of the new Doctor Who series, you'll
know that the extremely creepy episode Blink, from Season 3, with the
Weeping Angels, originally started as a short story online named "What
I Did on my Summer Vacation by Sally Sparrow." Said short story was
written by Steve Moffat, who sat down with us for a bit on Saturday at
Gallifrey One's Nineteenth Symphony convention to discuss writing for
the Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness, why bananas are good and sex is
scary for men, as well as other projects. This is what he told us...

Get Your Sing On At Comic Con!

On Saturday July 28th, way down south in the heart o' San Diego, Whedonopolis.com will be presenting a very special screening of "Once More With Feeling". What's so special about it? Well, it's part of the 10th Anniversary celebration of BtVS, for starters. And if that isn't enough, it'll be absolutely free - yes, free! - to Comic Con members! But wait! There's more! Something's just not quite right about a "friendly" little chatroom murder-mystery game -  like the mysterious murders taking out the players. Such is the set-up for "iMurders", an in-production thriller featuring none other than our own Giles, Anthony Stewart Head. To Screen Or Not To Screen? That Is The Question…

Our recent screening of "Once More With Feeling" went over so well, that we here at Whedonopolis decided to do it again - at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. The lovely folks in charge were happy to greenlight us, BUT (there's always a "but"), the space they've given us is on Saturday night, right opposite the Masquerade.

We've heard conflicting opinions on this. Some say, the Masquerade is CC's Superbowl and we'll play to an empty room. Others say, "Masquerade - Schmasquerade! If you screen it, we will come."

So, we've decided to create a poll and put it to a vote. If we screen it, will YOU come?
Let us know by casting your votes here:

<http://www.whedonopolis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=78&Itemid=33>

 Many thanks!

Going Once... Going Twice...

The two very special auctions from Whedonopolis's recent BtVS 10th Anniversary Once More With Feeling & Smile Time Charity Screening are getting down to the wire. The deadline is this Monday, May 14th. And once these two unique collectibles are gone - they're gone!

The items - to refresh your memory - are:

The original poster for the screening; a large, full-color art poster, designed and illustrated by graphic artist and Whedon fan, Alison Dayne (Alikhat) Frankel and signed by our very special guests, writer/producer David Fury, (Buffy, and Angel, now on 24; also seen as "The Mustard Man" and "Gregor Framkin")  writer/producer Ben Edlund (Angel, Firefly and The Tick, now on Supernatural), and actor Camden Toy (Gentleman, Ubervamp, Gnarl and Prince of Lies).

 And...

David Fury's own one-of-a-kind, signed copy of the shooting script for "You're Welcome", the 100th episode of Angel, the (spoiler warning) brilliant and emotionally-charged return and final farewell of Cordelia Chase.

The signed commemorative poster for the Once More With Feeling & Smile Time screening will only be available for bidding until 1:13 PM PST, Monday the 14th. You can still bid on it until then by going to:

Mr. Fury's signed script of the 100th Angel episode, "You're Welcome" will only be available for bidding until 1:18 PM PST, Monday the 14th. You can still bid on it until then by going to:
<http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150119464775>

So click on those links, fire up your bidding engines and remember that, because the proceeds from both auctions will be added to the total going to The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, you really can help others by helping yourself!

Oops

I've been advised by alert Signal readers, devoted Whedon fen and sticklers for accuracy in collectible toys, Dave & Deanna, that we - okay, I - got a couple of details wrong in last week's newsletter. To wit:

Puppet Angel is actually a product of Diamond Select Toys (not Sideshow Collectibles), and as such, was generously donated to our charity drawing by them.

Holiday Willow was, indeed, donated by Joss Whedon. But it was a New York Toy Fair exclusive, not a ComicCon exclusive as stated last week.

Many thanks to Dave & Deanna for the corrections.

Something To Sing About

Congratulate yourselves, everybody! On Friday, April 21st, those attending the first official LA area theatre screening of Once More With Feeling & Smile Time (an event which sold out weeks in advance) aided a very good cause. Between ticket sales, Sweet's Treats bags and tickets for the charity drawing - the fabulous prizes for which were donated by our many wonderful sponsors, guests and others - you helped us raise more than $3,500 for The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation!

It was a great turnout, despite the frigid and occasionally damp weather. Said turnout including not only 300+ fabulous Whedon fans, but some very special surprise guests as well: David Fury, writer/producer/director on both Buffy and Angel, and now on 24 (also featured in both episodes as, respectively, "The Mustard Man" and "Gregor Framkin"), writer/producer Ben Edlund (Angel, Firefly and The Tick, now on Supernatural), and actors James Leary (the kitten-eating, but otherwise friendly demon, Clem) and Camden Toy (Gentleman, Übervamp, Gnarl & Prince of Lies).

A surprise even for us on the Whedonopolis staff was the appearance of Heroes
writer/producer Bryan Fuller, who just decided to come on down for the show like the rest of the fans.

It seems like a good time was had by all - or most, anyway. There was much singing, much shouting, much "Shut Up, Dawn!"-ing. There were bubbles blown and grr argh guys played with and glow sticks waved - lots and lots of glow sticks waved (Note to self: Stock up on those glow sticks!) - and, in general, much rejoicing... yay. There were a few technical difficulties towards evening's end, due to the non-appearance of a promised special projectionist. But overall, the house… she was rocked.

For more detailed reports of the night's events, go to Whedonopolis.com and check out the reports by Iggy: "Sci-Fi Friday Reloaded: The Buffy 10th Anniversary Charity Screening" <http://www.whedonopolis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=42&Itemid=1>  and Brian Rubin: "Once More with Feeling/Smile Time Screening - My Experiences"
<http://www.whedonopolis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=1>
Also check out the report about the screening over at IF Magazine, at:  <http://ifmagazine.com/feature.asp?article=2054>

Where Do We Go From Here?

When we first decided to do a screening of OMWF here in the wilds of SoCal, we wondered - not a little terrified - if the end result would be a screening attended solely by the staff and our most indulgent, pity-motivated friends and relatives. But if there's one thing we learned from this experience, it's that demand far exceeded supply. We sold out well in advance and were sadly forced to turn away scores of people asking for extra tickets that just didn't exist.

There's really only one solution to something like that and that's to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN - only in much bigger, better digs.

We're still looking for said digs (we've got it narrowed down to a few really cool possibilities), but rest assured, another charity screening is in the works. Look for it to be a happinin' thang some time this summer and look for the announcement to come right here in this newsletter.

 But Wait! There's More!

The night of the screening, guest David Fury showed up with a very special surprise of his own: A one-of-a-kind, signed copy of the shooting script for "You're Welcome", the 100th episode of Angel, and as all serious fans know, (spoiler warning for any not-quite there, yet) …the brilliant and emotionally-charged return and final farewell of Cordelia Chase.

If you're thinking you don't remember that prize being given out, don't worry, you're not suffering from any Willow-induced memory loss. It was a bit too late to add it to the drawing that night; plus, we decided it was so unique and special, it merited a spotlight unto itself. So, this Friday, we're putting it up for auction on eBay. Fans will have the chance to bid and Whedonopolis members will get the first heads-up when and where Mr. Fury's script goes on the block. Proceeds will be added to the total going to The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. So warm up that bidding trigger finger knowing that you really will be helping others by helping yourself.

Something Familiar, Something Peculiar; Something For Everyone,
A Comedy Tonight!

Two of 'em, in fact! How cool is that? Just remember, all the coolness starts at the Laemmle One Colorado in Pasadena at the stroke of 10PM, and those lateness fashionistas will be finding themselves dressing for disappointment. Get there early and don't miss out on a thing.

'Tis Better To Give AND Receive

For a mere $1 per, you can buy a ticket to enter our charity prize drawing. It's a golden opportunity to feel great twice: Once for adding to the grand total being raised for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and yet again if one - or more - of your tickets has a winning number. The more times you enter, the better your chances are. So don't feel shy or anything. Besides, we've got some great prizes! Among the lot, we have signed comics and novels, CDs, 12" collectible dolls, and our grand prize - highly apropos for the evening - a Puppet Angel from Sideshow Collectibles.

What's "In" in "Interactive"?

This'll be a first for SoCal, but screenings of Once More With Feeling have been a happinin' thang in other parts of the country for a while now and a few audience participation traditions have risen up all undead-like over the years. We cover some of those in the program and we'll be providing nifty little prop bags of "Sweet's Treats" for $2 each to keep you properly equipped for the big mo's. But we want to see your creativity and spontaneity, too! So sing, dance and shout when you wanna. Come in costume, bring your dry cleaning, bring your wee little puppet date; so long as it isn't illegal, immoral, toxic or incendiary, let the Jossian spirit move you.

It's Showtime!

Well, almost. Friday night's coming up fast and furious and if you're still asking yourself, "where do I go from here?" remember, it's all happenin' at the Laemmle One Colorado in Pasadena at 10PM sharp! We've got lots planned, so we really advise showing up early and not missing a thing.

When you come in remember to buy a ticket or two - or more  (Anya would approve of more) - to enter our charity drawing. The tickets are a mere $1 each - Why, we're practically giving them away (Anya would not approve of that). We've got some fantastically cool stuff courtesy of our sponsors and others and the more you enter, the better your chances to win. Plus, the proceeds add to the total being raised for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

What's In The Bag?

In this case, it's "Sweet's Treats"; a truly wicked little collection of goodies assembled for your interactive film-going pleasure. Want bubbles to blow during Willow and Tara's heartfelt duet? Glow sticks to help the Scoobs' walk through the fire? Vamp fangs to don? Kazoos to toot? Your very own little Grrr Arrggh Guy to wave on your very own finger? For a mere $2 US, you can get that and more in a collectible custom bag of Sweet's Treats. And, of course, all proceeds go to... well, you know the drill.

So, hope to catch you all on Friday night. Be there or... be... somewhere else, I guess. But the One Colorado is going to rock.

OMWF/Smile Time Tickets SOLD OUT!

Well, that was fast! A great, big, huge THANK YOU to those who bought tickets. We have completely sold out the event with 2 weeks to spare! Your participation ensures that we're going to have a great crowd, a lot of fun and a nice, healthy sum to help fund the fantastic work being done by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

It also lets us know that for our next trick, we gotta find a bigger hat!

You Can't Stop The Signal - But You Can Screw It Up & Need To Post A Correction

I posted yesterday that we would be doing an exclusive interview with Dresden Files author, Jim Butcher - that part is absolutely true. I also said it would be part of out Creation Con coverage - that part is absolutely not. Sorry 'bout that, folks.

The fact is, we will be interviewing Mr. Butcher today at the Edinger Ave. Barnes & Noble in Huntington Beach, where he'll be doing a book signing from 7PM to 8PM.  Dresden-philes may want to bring or buy a copy of one of his books (either dead tree or James Marsters' voiced audio version) for him to sign.

Where:
Barnes & Noble
7881 Edinger Ave.
Huntington Beach, CA 92647
7PM to 8PM

For those who can't make it all the way "down south", but do have some free time during the daylight hours, Mr. Butcher will also be signing today at:

Mystery & Imagination
238 N. Brand Blvd.
Glendale, CA 91203
1PM to 2PM

For more information, go to: http://www.jim-butcher.com/

OMWF/Smile Time Tickets Selling Out FAST!!!

There are still some available, but we're dwindling down to a precious few. So, if you haven't bought your tickets yet, or have a friend who's been sitting on the fence, get 'em now! …Otherwise, even a walk through the fire won't give you something to sing about come show time.

Speaking of show times: Remember, the movie starts at 10PM and we highly encourage everyone to get to the theatre early so you don't miss out on anything we have planned. Does that sound cryptic, boys and girls? Well, expect the unexpected.

Let's Get Ready To Raffle!

Dawn had to pocket her bling on the sly, but for a mere $1 per ticket, you can enter our charity raffle to win cool and fabulous prizes! The more you enter, the better your chances to win, and all proceeds will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Tickets will only be sold at the theatre.

Sci-Fi Grand Slam Is Two Weeks Away - Ready To Get Spiked?

Creation Entertainment's Sci-Fi Grand Slam is coming in little less than two weeks and our team at Whedonopolis will be on site to cover James Marsters' appearance and concert for those of you who can't make it to the convention. Also, look for our exclusive interviews with Dresden Files author, Jim Butcher and actor, Doug Jones (Hush, Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth).
For more information on the convention, go to <http://www.creationent.com/cal/stgs.htm>Creation Entertainment</a>.

 OMWF/Smile Time Tickets on Sale!

…Or they will be real soon, anyway. The Laemmle Theatre One Colorado in Pasadena will start selling tickets for the screening this Thursday, March 22nd at 10AM PST.

You can order online at  http://www.laemmle.com/new.php?date=04202007&thid=9 or by phone at (626)744-1224. The tickets are $15 each and the extremely good news is that there's no service charge for either ordering method!

When: Friday, April 20th at 10PM

 Where: Laemmle One Colorado
              42 Miller Alley
              Pasadena, CA 91103

On April 20, we'll give you a big screen, a boffo sound system and two of the finest, funniest, most ingenious episodes ever to come out of the Buffy/Angel-verse. But remember, the best part of the show is up to you! These eps were made for talkin'... back, that is. And singing and shouting and dancing in the aisles (with or without your dry cleaning) and playing with finger puppets and brandishing bunny ears, bubbles and bad, plastic vamp teeth.

Audience participation - It isn't just for Rocky Horror and mob riots anymore.

We've got a lot fun stuff planned, which we'll fill you in on in later newsletters as we get closer to show time, and some very cool surprises which we won't fill you in on or else they wouldn't be very surprising.

If you've got any questions, suggestions or comments DO NOT reply to this email. This list is outgoing message only. Instead, please write to info@... and we'll reply to you as soon as we can.
