Ten years ago, on March 10, 1997, fledgling network The WB premiered a
series that would change the television landscape forever: Buffy The
Vampire Slayer. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Allyson Hannigan,
Nicholas Brenden, Charisma Carpenter and Anthony Stewert Head, the
series focused, not merely on the travails of a girl born to fight
demons, but on the very real traumas of high school life. Unwary
teens didn't die in car crashes, they were bitten by vampires!
Unrequited love meant love potions employed by rash teens, the teen
burden of an overly-ambitious parent merged into a potion-wielding
mother switching bodies with her pliable daughter, boyfriend troubles
took on a whole new meaning when your beau was an undead
creature-of-the-night, and the feeling of solitary lonliness was never
better highlighted than in the life of Buffy Summers. Buffy The
Vampire Slayer was much more than a monster-of-the-week romp. It
creatively showcased the angst of growing up, allowing viewers the
unique opportunity to share the heartaches and jubilations Buffy and
her friends throughout their 7-year run. A groundbreaking series that
was wildly underappreciated during its run, Buffy The Vampire Slayer
is still gaining new viewers and devotees to this day; a fitting
legacy to Sarah Michelle Geller and more importantly it's creator Joss
Whedon.
